i think the reason that remus is perceived as more studious than the other boys is because james and sirius are more naturally proficient in wizarding skills while remus has to work for it.

most of the time his peers would see him studying in the library and in his room, reading, writing, and doing homework and assume that that’s what he enjoyed doing, not necessarily what it took to get the grades he does.
