I cant believe they turned "he was my partner" and a letter from Frank about how much he hates Bill into a 10k major character death oneshot fanfic
“I know it’s a fucked up thing to say, but if I had to choose between living like this or living in a world that’s not infected but never meeting you, I’d choose the apocalypse every single day.”
— Bill to Frank probably at some point
TLOU Episode 8
I unpacked my feelings about Ellie & Joel
In TLOU HBO there are two episodes that take place outside of the main timeline of the show, and both are absolutely fantastic queer love stories, but they are also completely different types of love stories.
Long, Long Time is a story about growing old together. It’s about loving someone so deeply and unbreakably that they become your purpose. It’s a two decade spanning story about time and spending your life with someone you love.
Left Behind is a story about young love. It’s about the awkward giddiness of having a crush at fourteen. It’s about the butterflies in your stomach and young, naive hope. It spans one night, probably less than four hours, that ended way too soon.
Bill and Frank’s death wasn’t the tragic end of a play, but Riley and Ellie were all poetic and decided to lose their minds together.
Here are a few small survival details in TLOU HBO that I found!
1: In Bill’s town, he has saws surrounding the fence that get turned on when someone sets off a sensor. The saws are low to the ground and won’t actually stop anyone, however they turn on immediately while the flamethrowers behind the fence ignite. They aren’t meant to stop people, just provide a momentary distraction while the real defense kicks in.

Guys I can’t believe this we got a whole episode dedicated to bill in the reboot of The Last Of Us. All of the queers thank you Peter. Now let’s get som Ellie and Dina next!
I have been reduced to near tears over ep. 3 for a multitude of reasons, but let me ramble specifically about Bill and Frank's story and how, despite how radical the changes are, it still fulfills the same general purpose as the game and teaches Joel and Ellie what they needed to be taught. Just from a different angle
More than anything, The Last of Us is about companionship and love. Each new character introduction and story is about showing the possible outcomes and consequences (both positive and negative) of allowing yourself to get attached to others.
Game Bill's story presents the negative consequences: resentment, grief, and loss.
But HBO Bill and Frank presents the positive consequences: love, trust, and (most important to Joel) purpose.
Both ultimately serve the same general purpose in teaching Joel and Ellie a lesson about companionship and do so well! Two sides of the same coin! It's great and I'm crying so much don't mind me.
It's also just a textbook case of what a good adaptation should do. It builds on an untouched storyline. It utilizes arguably the biggest benefit of television as a passive storytelling medium (the ability of the film camera to better focus on nonplayer characters for extended periods of time without having to justify itself with gameplay) and runs wild with it! It's so fucking good.
