I like to think that Curlfeather in her life had a very “the ends justify the means” sort of mindset. She didn’t really want Reedwhisker killed, nor did she want to manipulate her daughter, but she justified it in her head by insisting what she was doing was for the betterment of the clan. She would keep her kits safe in the end after all. She would make a better future for RiverClan, and she was the only one who could do so. She had to do what she had to to guarantee a better future where RiverClan was less reliant on StarClan. After all, what had StarClan done? They allowed Ashfur to take control. They took her mate away from her. They tore away allegiances. She was a kit when Mothwing was temporarily removed from her position as a medicine cat for being an atheist. The clans had managed when they lost connection with StarClan anyways, wouldn’t it be better?
And yet, as the dogs run after her, she realizes what she’s done. She realizes she’s harmed those around her, especially her daughter. She loves Frostpaw, why would she ever manipulate her? She must sacrifice herself so her daughter can live, and she warns her not to trust anyone. She comforts her daughter after her death.
Was it all worth it? She’s in the dark forest, a place where evil cats go. Was she evil? She only wanted what was best for RiverClan. But now she’ll never see her mate again. She’ll never see her kits again. She caused Splashtail to take RiverClan as its leader, with him almost killing Frostpaw. What has she done?
"I will never let you go. I’ll always be beside you, because I want to watch you fail."
(that asc star preview prologue omg...)
I want to watch you fail.
[ID: Digital sketchy art of Curlfeather from Warrior Cats based on the prologue of “Star.” Her pelt is torn and covered in bleeding wounds, she’s missing one ear and has a long bloody gash stretching from the corner of her mouth almost up to her eye. She sits in a black void, her back to the viewer and head turned half way, as she says with her amber eyes narrowed: “I would have led RiverClan into a golden dawn, not a bloody sunset.” End ID]
