I love talking with people about one piece. Whether its an argument. Debate. Or a simple convo. It’s all the same and it gets me excited either way!
Dont worry about hurting my feelings and we’ll definitely piss eachother off LMFAOAOAO but its better that way. We can be honest about our ideals and theories as long as we dont hit below the belt and keep it about one piece.
Just dont take it too far and i’ll follow your lead!
One piece is the greatest story in fucking history. It deserves to be talked about dammit!
Sarcastic Ravenclaws 🤝 Cynical Slytherins
These two would most likely win when it’s comes to debates they would annihilate there opponents
You know, I'm sorry, but I just have to say this: you and all the people furiously agreeing with you have never heard of Daryl Davis, have you? Here's the cliff notes version- he's a black musician who spent 30 years befriending members of the KKK. And before you call him a race traitor or something, he's gotten 200 klansmen to give up their robes, and abandon their racist views. And guess how he did it? It wasn't by sticking his fingers in his ears so he wouldn't have to hear people with different beliefs. It was by debating and disagreeing with them. This is from an interview he gave to NPR; I'm gonna put the whole quote here so no one can say it's out of context, but also because it's just so poignant and true.
Listen up, because this is something the TRIGGER WARNING culture of today seems keen on forgetting; beliefs are not static. They are permeable and yeilding and ever changing. No one was born believing anything. When you were young, you probably believed in Santa and the Tooth Fairy, and when you grew up, you realized that was wrong- it was your parents who left presents under the tree and money under your pillow. When you were a teenager, you were probably involved in some trendy phase you thought was the best thing ever that, looking back on it, was absolutely cringeworthy. And before anyone tries to argue that those examples aren't the same as politics, THEY ARE.
America, as a country, thought gay people were mentally ill until literally a few decades ago. Now, gay marriage is legal. Every single thing that you're saying you SHOULDN'T be fighting about because people who disagree with you are wrong and that's final is something THE ENTIRE COUNTRY fought about until it was argued, passionately, and for years on end, by people who cared enough to change other people's minds. If someone was friends with you in the first place (though, given how small minded and biggoted you sound on paper, one has to wonder how that happened), it's doubtful they thought YOU shouldn't vote or have healthcare. If they were your best friend before political shit hit the fan, they didn't see you as some kind of "other"- they saw you as a person, like them. Which means they were capable of seeing EVERYONE like you as a person, like them. But rather than nurture that seed of understanding, you'd rather salt the earth and ensure all they think of people like you is that they're petty, childish idiots who can't argue a point because they're wrong. People might not know all the facts that you do. They might not understand the hardships of people who have different experiences than them. And yes, of course there will ALWAYS be some people whose minds you just cannot change because they are 5000% sure they're right, but that's not everyone. One man reduced the number of card carrying racists by 200 by debating with them. What have you all done by ignoring their existance?
White dudes have this thing where they believe your best friend in the world can have opposing political ideas. You’re supposed to be able to have healthy debate and disagreeing shouldn’t harm your friendship. That’s gross and stupid. Its really easy to say that when all your disagreements are theoretical. Its easy to say when none of the laws passed actually effect your life. Fighting with your best friend about corporate regulations, school charters, educational funding, abortion, health care, voting restrictions, drug laws, taxes and all sorts of stuff is cool and lively because none of it is going to actually leave you in a bad spot. Its different for the rest of us. I can’t be friends with you if you think I shouldn’t be allowed to vote. We can’t be friends if you think my friends shouldn’t have the ability to designate whatever gender they want and have that be legally recognized. We can’t be friends if you think I don’t deserve health care. Or if you think native children should be ripped away from their cultures and people. We can’t be friends if you think closing down health care clinics in an attempt to end safe legal abortions is a good thing. All these theoretical political ideas and lively debates effect real people, and I won’t be friends with someone who disagrees with me on them. Because disagreement means you don’t see me or a whole bunch of my friends and family as human beings worthy of rights and respect.
