I’ve been researching digital art in the context of modern folk art, outside institutional or commercial art. I analysed almost 500 art GIFs across Tumblr, Artstation and GIPHY.

There’s almost no academic research on art GIFs, so it was important to me to examine and document it. I also examined the optimisation of GIFs and how it relates to web sustainability.

And because the bachelor program was focused on art practice, I then created my own art GIFs, and it seemed only right that I should do it through fanart of something I’ve been really into lately. Thanks @samreich and the rest of Dropout for giving me some unhinged content as inspiration. Watch ‘Game Changer’ everyone, it’s great.

I'm running out of options to forget my desire to end my life.

That thought is present every day, it makes me remember that I have not achieved anything and probably never will.

The factor that makes my anxiety and depression worse is university. I can't go to class and be among those people I've known for years and haven't talked to yet. I can't feel normal in the classroom; my chest hurts, I feel cold, shaking, and I get dizzy. Walking around campus makes me feel worse, and I don't know how to explain it to my family. Yesterday I couldn't sleep because of the chest pain I felt when I found out that today is Monday.

i just realized that Brennan has been wearing the same costume since episode 3 and he's just getting dirtier and more beat to shit as the season progresses

I had a moment yesterday because things are going well and I just. Want to thank Lou Wilson, Dimension 20 and Dropout for the phrase "the ball is rolling up" because that's been the only thing in my head.

Okay so the halls they're in look like a hotel (which would also!! Be easy to book out a floor or two or three of for a shoot!) and the fact that it was filmed off-location leads me to believe that's Very Important

Scavenger hunt? Find Sam? Challenges to earn key cards to the next room? Could the contestants each be on their own floor? Or working together? Or even filmed separately, Taskmaster style? The possibilities are endless

The fact that Fabian hating Gilear is probably rooted in the values Bill taught him, that he's trying to deconstruct, is so fucking interesting. He spent his entire life being told the only way to live up to his father was to be powerful, to be LEGENDARY. Now here comes Gilear; incompetent, and weak, and loved. Not only is he cared for by Fabian's friends, he literally lives up to Bill Seacaster by going out with his widow. He's the antithesis of everything Fabian's been taught, and god, that has to be devastating.

On top of that, Halariel was absent from his childhood, and as soon as he turns 18, she leaves him alone to go gallivanting around with Gilear. In Fabian's eyes, Gilear isn't just replacing his father; he's replacing HIM in his mother's affections. Now he has a little sibling on the way, and you KNOW Halariel is gonna be active in that kid's life. With two loving parents and no pressure to be great, this kid will grow up with everything Fabian didn't get to have. No WONDER he's pissed.

I will say, they've mentioned before that shooting schedules have to work around players' other obligations, which I would imagine informs a lot of the filming timeline.

Plus, Dropout is a business, and a pretty experimental one at that! I doubt they can really afford to take big hiatuses from their most popular programming. Besides, non-intrepid heroes seasons are getting longer and much more frequent; with rotating casts, most cast members have a lot of time between seasons

i will say that they’re so visibly tired in the ap, and they’ve clearly forgotten some of the stuff to be wrapped up, and just. i know i harp on about this a lot but i just think that they should have more time off between seasons and more time to film each seasons rather than the need for constantly releasing new campaigns

If you're big into comics, sci-fi, etc., start with Starstruck Odyssey

If you like D&D for its fantasy settings, start with A Crown of Candy or Escape the Bloodkeep

If you were a Percy Jackson kid, start with The Unsleeping City

If you were a Harry Potter kid, start with Misfits and Magic

If you were a classic lit kid, start with Burrow's End

And if you prefer really long campaigns over shorter seasons, I'd go for the Spyre series (in order: Fantasy High, Fantasy High: Sophomore Year, optional Pirates of Leviathan, optional The Seven, Fantasy High: Junior Year)

There's also quite a few I WOULDN'T start with. For example:

-Fantasy High Sophomore and Junior Year, The Seven, Pirates of Leviathan, Unsleeping City live season (all sequels or expansions on established universes)

-Coffin Run (awesome season, just a slightly different vibe from many of the main seasons)

-The Ravening War (a prequel! Technically you could understand it alone, but I would watch A Crown of Candy first, especially since they're DMed by different people, so the tone is slightly different)

-Shriek Week (fuck Gabe Hicks)

I want a production of into the woods featuring the dropout cast.

I want all of that gloriously chaotic, wickedly smart energy that I know they could bring to it

I want to see the way this show can *hit* with the help of the audience’s preconceived notions. a big part of ITW is taking public knowledge of these old stories and shattering expectations; a lot of droupout’s success comes from its audience’s adoration of these people and their relationships, at least what’s shown on camera-everyone has an idea of what each cast member is like, and to see them play characters somewhat like or unlike their personas or the characters they usually play and then take them through the journey of the show would just. be. incredible

I want the pure warmth that would come from Brennan and Izzy’s rendition of “it takes two”

I want Jess Ross’ delivery of “THERE’S A DEAD GIANT IN MY BACKYARD”

I want to see Grant and Ify’s “agony” break the internet

I want to see Katie’s well-known and beloved “quirky girl” vibes contribute to the pain of Rapunzel’s breakdown (or to see the chaos of her Little Red, can’t decide)

I want Sam Reich as the narrator/mysterious man, and I want to see the half-joking edits people would make, putting audio of his and Brennan’s duet over clips of the most diabolical episodes

I want to see that beautiful dropout-trademarked mix of comedy and depth in the context of this striking piece of musical theatre, with the core message of “careful the tale you tell, that is the spell”. because we’ve always watched these people do their silly little prompts and play their silly little games and laugh together and then all of a sudden they’ll hit on something real and break all our hearts, because the stories we tell *matter*, and that is something I’ve seen shine through both pieces of media that I would just so love to see come together

(disclaimer, I’m speaking as someone who’s so far only seen game changer, half of make some noise, and a bunch of clips of other shows-I’m working my way through all the content and I’m sure that once I finally watch D20 my mind will explode with even more of these thoughts)
