Dungeons And Dragons Movie - Tumblr Posts
I loved that the D&D movie really felt like a campaign. Doing a bunch of backstory at the beginning establishing how the characters know each other like in a session zero, overpowered DMPC that has to leave the story because they’d be too helpful, finding important information at a tavern, etc. They don’t reference gameplay and yet you know exactly how it’s the game.
I watched Dungeons and Dragons: Honor among thieves yesterday, and one of my many thoughts and things I liked is that Xenk, the paladin, has to be autistic.
He values morals, and studies have shown autistic people tend to do that more than allistics. He doesn't get irony or, at least, doesn't like it. He's serious most of the time. He doesn't joke. The main cast is thankful he's on their side because, if he were an antagonist, the movie would be much, much shorter (okay maybe not that one but... d&d equivalent of a savant?).
I love him.
xenk: okay, but what if we went to dinner not as friends this time?
edgin: AS ENEMIES?!
xenk:
Right, but Edgin makes Xenk flower crowns.
xenk: when i woke up this morning, i meditated, did yoga, drank green tea, and went for a 30 minute walk
edgin: when i woke up, i spent an hour just waking up
