it's interesting how similar generative AI is to dreams. it creates weird nonsensical visuals and events and doesn't care about logic, physics or continuity, because it's just an amalgamation of a bunch of things it's seen before
so many of the "i only use chat gpt for ___" excuses are concerning because people use it in place of learning basic, valuable skills.
you don't need chat gpt to write professional sounding emails for you, there are many many guides on the internet and with a bit of practise you can learn to write them yourself. a very important skill for a professional to have, and some of the basic rules will carry over into irl conversations!
you don't need chat gpt to be a "more detailed search engine", because you're robbing yourself of the chance to learn how to find and filter information on the internet and evaluate the credibility of sources. which is a VITAL skill. plus, chat gpt is notorious for being wrong?
if you use it to write essays, you're taking away your ability to hone your research skills, your writing skills, your critical thinking skills. your ability to create persuasive arguments!
and for most of the other reasons people use chat gpt, there are non-ai websites for that! for maths, wolfram alpha. for figuring out what you can cook with the ingredients you have there's supercook and the like. for creating routines, there's about a million apps!
whatever you "only" use chatgpt for i promise there are better websites out there that you don't have to worry will produce complete bullshit???? and destroy the environment???

(???) while in NO WAY responding to the criticisms of ai for its environmental impact OR the building of databases on material without author consent, ie, stolen material, OR the money laundering rampant in the industry
when called out on deleting replies, literally messaged me people who called them out to say "We don't have a problem with folks disagreeing with AI. It's the tone of the discourse." So. overtly stated tone policing.

I'll be upfront with my opinion, which mirrors my opinion in regards to my field: using AI will only hasten your own obsolescence. The point of fanfiction is not to crank out fics, but rather to enjoy the hobby and communities of writing and fandom.

Maybe it’s just my autism brain going haywire after going to the dentist earlier but the prospect of generative AI replacing human writing online scares me so much.

Ich habe in Abwechslung mit ChatGPT den Versuch gewagt, eine Fanfiction mit Leon Goretzka und Max Meyer zu schreiben. Here goes:
"Nicht das beste Wetter, um joggen zu gehen", bemerkte Max und deutete zum wolkenverhangenen Himmel über Bochum.
"Stimmt, aber ein bisschen Regen hat noch niemandem geschadet", antwortete Leon und zog den Reißverschluss seiner Jacke höher.
Max widersprach nicht und versuchte, mit seinen Laufschuhen nicht in eine Pfütze zu treten.
Sie liefen schweigend nebeneinander her, das rhythmische Klatschen ihrer Schritte auf dem feuchten Asphalt füllte die Luft.
Der Schauer hatte Bochum uncharakteristisch ruhig werden lassen. Nur das Quietschen eines bremsenden Güterzuges schnitt durch die klare Luft.
Leon warf einen flüchtigen Blick zu Max, als wollte er etwas sagen, doch dann wandte er seinen Blick wieder auf die Straße.
Ihm fiel auf, dass Max trotz seiner geringeren Körpergröße gleich lange Schritte machte. Aus irgendeinem Grund, den Leon nicht näher benennen konnte, machte ihn das stolz.
Die Straßenlaternen warfen diffuse Lichtkegel auf den nassen Boden, während sie tiefer in das Gewirr der Straßen eintauchten.
"Meinst du, die erkennen uns?", fragte Max und deutete in die Richtung einiger Menschen, die aus dem Schaufenster eines Cafés auf die Straße blickten.
"Schwer zu sagen. Unsere Gesichter sind vielleicht nicht mehr so bekannt wie früher", antwortete Leon, während sie weiter liefen und den Blickkontakt mit den Café-Besuchern vermieden.
In nicht allzu weiter Entfernung tauchte der Förderturm des Bergbaumuseums auf.
"Da vorne ist das Bergbaumuseum", bemerkte Leon und zeigte auf den Förderturm, der majestätisch in den Himmel ragte. "Vielleicht machen wir da eine kurze Pause."
Nachdem sie die letzte Ampel überquert hatten, hörten sie auf zu joggen und gingen gemächlich. "Dass es für sowas ein Museum gibt", bemerkte Max nachdenklich.
"Ja, schon interessant", stimmte Leon zu. "Es erinnert an die Geschichte dieser Stadt und all die harten Arbeitsbedingungen der Bergleute." Die beiden erreichten den Eingang des Museums und lehnten sich an das Geländer.
Das Museum selbst war geschlossen. In der beleuchteten Eingangshalle stand ein altes, minzgrünes Sofa, was durch die Fenster zu sehen war.
"Ein Sofa im Bergbaumuseum", schmunzelte Max. "Das ist sicherlich nicht das, was die Bergleute nach einem harten Arbeitstag erwartet haben." Die beiden lachten leise, während sie das ungewöhnliche Bild betrachteten.
"Doch. Sie haben für dieses bisschen Luxus gearbeitet", erklärte Leon ohne Vorwurf in der Stimme.
"Stimmt, du hast recht", stimmte Max nachdenklich zu. "Vielleicht war dieses Sofa für sie ein Symbol für die kleinen Freuden, die das harte Leben erträglicher gemacht haben." Sie schwiegen einen Moment, ließen die Gedanken wirken.
"Das war noch ehrliche Arbeit", fand Leon. Max war irritiert. "Meinst du, im Gegensatz zu uns?"
"Nein, so meinte ich das nicht", korrigierte sich Leon schnell. "Ich meine, die Bergleute haben buchstäblich geschuftet, um ihre Familien zu versorgen. Es war sicherlich eine harte Zeit, aber irgendwie auch einfacher, weil sie wussten, wofür sie es taten." Max nickte langsam, seine Miene wurde nachdenklicher.
"Aber weißt du, ich glaube, wenn sie es getan haben, damit wir es besser haben, dann ist es vielleicht ganz in ihrem Sinne, was wir tun", dachte Max nach. Leon schwieg eine Zeit lang. "Vielleicht."
Die beiden Freunde blickten auf den Förderturm und dann wieder auf das Sofa im Museumseingang. Ein Gefühl der Verbundenheit durchströmte sie, während sie über die Vergangenheit und die Gegenwart nachdachten.
"Da oben kann man drauf", sagte Leon mit Blick auf den Förderturm. "Die Aussicht von da oben muss Bombe sein", meinte Max. "Ist sie", pflichtete Leon ihm bei. "Ich wollte da schon immer mal ein Selfie machen, mit dir."
"Na dann los, warum nicht heute?" schlug Max vor und deutete auf die Treppe, die zum Förderturm führte. "Vielleicht wird das Selfie das moderne Pendant zu dem alten grünen Sofa", fügte er mit einem schelmischen Lächeln hinzu. Leon lachte, und gemeinsam machten sie sich auf den Weg die Treppe hinauf, bereit, die Aussicht zu genießen und Erinnerungen zu schaffen, die genauso wertvoll waren wie die der Bergleute von einst.
