Word of mouth really kept me away from Scott Pilgrim for like a decade cause I was told it's this shitty book aimed at incels and he's a pedo and then I read it recently cause of the netflix anime and it's like "this guy sucks and all his friends barely tolerate him and he's trying to feel like a big man by leading on a 17 year old girl he's not actually interested in and everyone including the narrative acknowledges that that's pathetic and he should grow up. anyway let's explore how men see women as a means to their own self actualization but fail to acknowledge that they have lives of their own" like wow this is the book yall were talking about?

hi i'm really not well about scott pilgrim but YEAH THAT so so many people just read the complete wrong book and then put on their protagonist sunglasses like OOH YEAH HE'S THE MAIN CHARACTER SO HE'S IN THE RIGHT he isn’t scott is like objectively a Bad Person in this book series and is acknowledged as such repeatedly. by the narrators by his friends by HIMSELF gods even the people who have stuck by him since like high school. they know he sucks. he's like that this is established on like the fourth page yeah OP you explained it in the best possible words also i have a whole fuckin' rant about the movie but thats unrelated i just dont like the movie main character hat does not in fact mean that the guy is in the right and i think thats actually very very cool of brian lee omalley (the author) to do because a lot of pieces of media get too on their horse about the protag or main character being a “good person” even just in the eyes of the narrative. but they dont have to be! in SP we have an objectively unreliable narrator (scott) and we can still see through and see how he's fooling himself and failing to fool others scott is the main character and he also sucks and the book acknowledges that and i think thats awesome actually okay done rambling now thank you if anyone actually read whatever this was thank you for coming to my retedtalkblog steps down off my self-made soap box
