Deipnon - Hellenic Dark Moon Ritual

Hellenic/Greek reconstruction/revivalist dark moon ritualRitual Components:
Candle and/or incense
Hot drink
Spoon for stirring
Bowl with water
Bay leaf x 3 (write on each 1 thing you seek to cleanse from your life)
lighter or matches
Something yummy to eat after
Pre-Ritual Purification:
Wash yourself completely in a ritual bath or shower
You may also just wash your hands
Ground and Center:
Close your eyes and take 3 deep breaths. Connect with the sensations of your body. Feel as your sides expand and release. From your spine shoots a thick, gnarled root wrapping around and breaking through that which is beneath you until it finds the dusty earth. Other smaller roots follow suit from each part of you that touches a surface below. As these roots break the surface, they crawl well into the crust until they are met with a cavern and rushing water. It is here that they begin to drench themselves intermingling the energy of the water as the energy of the surrounding terrain. This energy swells upwards rising upwards through the root system, through your legs, your pelvis, your torso, your arms, and finally your head. Your back straightens as the trunk of the tree centers you between the base of the tree and the now forming branches. They sprout from your arms, shoulders, and the crown of your head. New leaves reach upwards waving in the winds letting the shadow and light of the moon dapple between. These energies seep downwards through your head, your shoulders, your arms, chest, pelvis and legs. All these energies fill you and ultimately mix with what is inside you already. You are empowered. You are grounded. Your working can begin.
Poems:
Nothing but Death
by Pablo Neruda
'There are cemeteries that are lonely,
graves full of bones that do not make a sound,
the heart moving through a tunnel,
in it darkness, darkness, darkness,
like a shipwreck we die going into ourselves,
as though we were drowning inside our hearts,
as though we lived falling out of the skin into the soul.'
If Death is Kind
by Sara Teasdale
'Perhaps if Death is kind, and there can be returning,
We will come back to earth some fragrant night,
And take these lanes to find the sea, and bending
Breathe the same honeysuckle, low and white. We will come down at night to these resounding beaches
And the long gentle thunder of the sea,
Here for a single hour in the wide starlight
We shall be happy, for the dead are free.'
Offering:
(Take your hot drink and stir it clock wise three times. Speak or think about how the energy of the drink is your offering to the night, the full moon, the stars, and those spirits who work during this time. At this time also light your candle and/or incense. If you work with any deities or spirits or ancestors, feel free to give this and other offerings to them as well.)
Magickal Working:
Dark Moon, time of liminality, as we transition between last month and this, I am reminded to look within at my own darkness.
I accept the shades and ghosts of my past allowing their release of their chaotic grip upon my unconscious behaviors.
For even a blanket of cosmic shadow, shimmers with stars illuminating new ways of thinking, existing, and moving through this world.
It is through cycles of release and relearning that I shall grow into the being I seek to be in this world.
I start with cleansing:
(Light each bay leaf on fire and then drop it in the water with each statement).
With water and fire I am purified.
With water and fire this house is purified.
With water and fire the affairs of all in this space are purified.
Now I turn my sights outward to the wilderness of the world - urban, rural, or natural.
I give offerings to the restless dead this eve.
Those who have violent deaths... Those lost too early in their lives... and those who never had a chance...
You are remembered.
I now leave a portion of this meal, this drink and this incense for you.
Should I hear the baying of hounds, my head will not turn.
I shall not see you.
My door shuts behind me, solidly so that your haunts go undisturbed.
(Take a portion of your meal and drink to leave outside. let your incense burn as usual on your altar. When you turn back towards your house, do not look back.)
Release from the Cosmic Grove:
(You can do this in reverse to the visualization above bringing in the branches and leaves, followed by the roots and releasing from the trunk of the tree).
Feast:
(Take time to eat with the group or by yourself not only to ground again, but also to commune with the energy of the evening.)

entities to investigate instead of lilith
so u think lilith (or an entity that to u resembles lilith) is reaching out to u? or, ure like me, and have an affinity for angry and vengeful female entities and u are not jewish? here are some darker goddesses/spirits that may share qualities with that often attributed to lilith by new age practioners that have appropriated her.
hekate , famous patron to witches, goddess of restless spirits
medea , ancient greek witch. priestess of hekate
the erinyes , aka the furies. trio of punishment spirits called alecto (wrathful), megaera (fierce), tisiphone (avenger). attendants to hekate
aphrodite , goddess of love and sex. vengeance isnt her focus by any means but she never shys away from war or revenge
persephone , goddess of the underworld
the morrigan , fierce triad goddess of death and war
nemesis , goddess of retribution
themis , oracle titan of justice. mother to dike, another goddess of justice
sekhmet , solar goddess of war and healing
ishtar/inanna , goddess of sex, war and justice
lamashtu , malevolent spirit that eats babies and men
nephthys , night goddess of death, magic and protection
nyx , primordial titan of the night
hel , goddess of death
morana , goddess of winter, death and rebirth
baba yaga , witch-spirit that can be maternal or malevolent
there are undoubtedly more, but these are who i can think of off the top of my head. deeper research and study of these entities and their attributes/associations can help u determine who u feel may b reaching out to u or give u an idea of which entities u might want to involve in ur practice instead of lilith.
and theres always eve, who also defied god and even got her husband to go along with it.
⛧ The Pentagram
Info on The Pentagram
✥ A pentagram is a five-pointed star, with all lines the same length and all angles the same. A 'pentangle', 'star pentagon', or 'pentalpha' means the same thing. It is a type of pentagon.
The word pentacle originally meant 'any symbol that protects against evil spirits'. There are many of such symbols, only a few of which include a pentagram. Pentagrams were used symbolically in ancient Greece and Babylonia, and are used today as a symbol of faith by many Wiccans, akin to the use of the cross by Christians. The pentagram has magical associations. Many people who practice Modern Paganism and Pagan faiths wear jewelry incorporating the symbol. Christians once commonly used the pentagram to represent the five wounds of Jesus.
✥ By the mid-19th century, a further distinction had developed amongst occultists regarding the pentagram's orientation. With a single point upwards it depicted spirit presiding over the four elements of matter, and was essentially good. However, the influential writer Éliphas Lévi called it evil whenever the symbol appeared the other way up.
"A reversed pentagram, with two points projecting upwards, is a symbol of evil and attracts sinister forces because it overturns the proper order of things and demonstrates the triumph of matter over spirit. It is the goat of lust attacking the heavens with its horns, a sign execrated by initiates."
✥ Based on Renaissance-era occultism, the pentagram found its way into the symbolism of modern occultists. Its major use is a continuation of the ancient Babylonian use of the pentagram as an apotropaic charm to protect against evil forces. Éliphas Lévi claimed that "The Pentagram expresses the mind's domination over the elements and it is by this sign that we bind the demons of the air, the spirits of fire, the specters of water, and the ghosts of earth." In this spirit, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn developed the use of the pentagram in the lesser banishing ritual of the pentagram, which is still used to this day by those who practice Golden Dawn-type magic. ✥ Because of a perceived association with Satanism and occultism, many United States schools in the late 1990s sought to prevent students from displaying the pentagram on clothing or jewelry. In public schools, such actions by administrators were determined in 2000 to be in violation of students' First Amendment right to free exercise of religion.
Today Wiccans have adopted the pentagram and used it in symbolism of the four elements, Air, Water, Earth and Fire and believe balance the fifth point to balance and create the fifth element of spirit. The pentagram ring is a popular talisman worn by Wiccans and Pagans alike. Many Wiccans utilize the pentagram frequently on altars, clothing, ritual tools and other decorative symbolism. They also view it as the Star of Life and often represents the feminine energy.

Witch tip: offerings
I’ve seen a lot of mixed opinions about whether or not it’s okay to consume the offerings and frankly, I’ve been confused about it for a while. My tip is to keep in mind who you are offering to
Ouranic offerings are always partial, you may share
Chtonic offerings are complete, you may not

Misconceptions about Hekate
What NOT to Offer to the Old Gods
To my family, paganism is the core of the craft. And so we take very seriously how we interact with our gods.
Afterthoughts
If you have something lying around the house that was originally meant for you or someone else, do not give it to the gods. Even if it cost a thousand dollars, it is worthless. It would be like giving the gods leftovers.
Irrelevant Objects
Do not offer a moon necklace to Venus. She is not a moon goddess. To her, it has absolutely no relevance. Do not offer a weapon to Mercury. He is a god of medicine. Unlike weapons, he does not harm, he heals.
Meaningless Items
Every offering needs to be well thought out. It does not matter how cheap its material value is. If you bought or made it, believing it to be worthy, then it has prime sentimental value. As a gift to the gods, it is perfectly fit.
Scraps
If you cooked for yourself or others, it is the first serving that must be offered. When you are asking the gods to share with you or someone else, their portion must be superior. Always give them something better.
Anything Halfhearted
If you feel sad, guilty or regretful about having spent the last of your money on an offering for a god, it will only be rejected by the deity. Every gift, whether expensive or cheap, needs to be given wholeheartedly.
