Портреты Шона Дауни основаны на таких разнообразных влияниях, как известные голландские мастера и современные комиксы, прочно закрепляя многовековую традицию фигурной живописи в настоящем. Используя реалистический стиль, Дауни создает эмоционально насыщенные портреты, в основном женщин, в полностью реализованных декорациях, где лицо и настроение человека в зависят от окружающей среды. Beautiful modern portraits in the works of Canadian artist Sean Downey.
Sean Downey's portraits are based on such diverse influences as famous Dutch masters and modern comics, firmly anchoring the centuries-old tradition of figurative painting in the present. Using a realistic style, Downey creates emotionally intense portraits, mostly of women, in fully realized sets, where a person's face and mood depend on the environment. Downey's obvious interest in masters such as Vermeer and Norman Rockwell is evident in his attention to people engaged in their daily habits, such as a woman styling her hair or washing her hands, always in a modern setting and clothes. Similarly, in the tradition of the aforementioned artists, Downey paints not only faces, often depicting his figures with his back to the viewer. However, his hyperrealistic style and manipulations with oil paints make these compositions as memorable as his expressive figures facing forward.

Sanctuary II- Renato Muccillo
okay so theres this little art comp at my school and the theme is "for the love of art" and it has to be no bigger than A3
So, i was like, "okay, what can i do that fits the theme and is good enough to beat everyone else and win this thing for the third year in a row?" (im a sore loser when it comes to this stuff) and BAM i got a wave of motivation that i haven't had in ages and pulled this out of my ass in the span of about 9 hours over two days.

Its A3 in size and i used charcoal with prisma colour pencils and Winsor & Newton's designer titanium white gouache :)
BUT Y'ALL WHEN I TELL YOU I'M NEVER DOING CHARCOAL AGAIN (or at least for a very long time) BECAUSE OF THE MESS IT MADE- GOOD LORD I JUST SPENT THREE HOURS CLEANING MY ROOM BECAUSE OF THE MESS THIS PIECE MADE AAA
i'd better win this fucking thing.
I was watching Schindler's List (one of my favorite movies 💖), when I had to stop the movie to take care of some business. When I came back, I noticed that I had paused it at the moment where Oskar Schindler gives his gold watch to Itzhak Stern for him to use as a bribe in order to get an elderly couple (the Perlmans) added to the list. 📝✍
This isn't only a pivotal moment in the film (and in the true story that inspired it as well 🕯️), but it also involves my favorite character (Itzhak Stern, played masterfully by Sir Ben Kingsley 👏), and some exquisite cinematography (just look at that camera work and lighting! 🎥✨) that inspired me to try to paint it in my beloved Paint Tool SAI. 🖌️
The painting took about 50 hours and was done with 1 medium/large flat brush, 1 small round/bristle brush (both with chalk texture to make them look more realistic and less "digital" 😉), and 1 very large water/blur brush (which was only used for the background, as I didn't want to blur the character so that the painting would look more traditional and less "photographic" than some of my previous works 👀).
The hardest part to paint was Itzhak's forehead and, to my great surprise, the easiest was the glasses! Which surprised me since it's the first time I've painted a realistic portrait of someone wearing them, haha. 👓🤭
I spent 6 whole months working on this painting (I started sketching it in February of this year! 😆) and I'm super happy with the outcome, since I'm a huge fan of Mama Ru and always wanted to paint a hyper-realistic portrait of her! 🖌️💖
This is one of the most challenging paintings I've ever done, as I've never painted such a beautiful afro hairstyle or a sequined dress with so many details before. 👀 But I wanted to push myself to the limit since, in this era where so many people let themselves be swayed by greedy corporations that tell them that drawing on their own is hopeless and they need to rely on AI generators, it's extremely important that those of us who love human art keep on drawing on the blank page of endless possibilities that always awaits us with open arms! 📝🎨

P. S. If you love Ru so much as I do, go watch "AJ and the Queen"! 🙌 Is a series as emotional as it is funny and I'm still mad at Netflix for canceling it, ugh. 🙃
