Inktober 2015 - Day 1: ink and water Is Isaac an angel, or a ghost with delusions of grandeur? Maybe even he doesn’t know.
I managed not to goof up the first picture this year, but I’ll be posting them a day late as usual. Especially since my scanner recently became an expensive footstool, and actually getting the pictures online is a huge pain in the neck.
Inktober - Day 3 : brush inking and ink wash
Lena is all fancied up in some sort of shiro-lolita type outfit. Oh dear, is it time to cheat and do a dolly-style picture already? (Yes, it is. I was so tired yesterday I fell asleep on my desk.) I tried to make it a bit less of a cop out by inking it with a brush and trying some ink wash.
Inktober day 5 - brush inking and ink wash Lucas survived (more or less), but the police never found the culprit. It’s time for my favourite part of Inktober, ill-advised adventures in ink wash! I don’t like this method enough to use it at other times of year, but when I’m restricted to ink it can be a fun alternative to paints. I don’t think I’ve ever drawn this part of Lucas’ life before. (I don’t think I’ve drawn him recently enough for anyone to know how this turned out either... maybe he’ll show up later this month.) The police took the incident very seriously, but there’s not much you can do when there’s no sign of an intruder, no weapon, no discernable motive, and when your victim finally wakes up he insists it was a hairy monster that came out of his mum’s mirror. Or just screams a lot, the poor lad. Best stop asking him.
Inktober day 6 - mapping pen The best and most entertaining way to practice telekinesis is to throw your only friend in the air. It’s okay, he likes it too.
Cheap mapping pens are probably my most reliable inking tool. The only downside is I now have several and I struggle to remember which are the good ones and which are the effects-only broken ones.
Inktober 2015 - Day 7 : brush inking and ink wash 7 or 8 years later, Lucas is probably as fully recovered as he’s ever going to be.
I was going to wait until later to draw something like this, so I didn’t have the same characters too many times, but I couldn’t think of anything else so here we are. Surprise, he has a sister and it’s Lena! He was born with the same Second Sight as her, but it’s all messed up now and he can’t control it any more.
Inktober 2015 - Day 8 : ink and water Sweetpea is having fun with the autumn leaves on his tree.
I wish I’d had time to do a better background, but this will do I suppose. Sweetpea himself looks pretty cute even with a lazy background.

A neat trick Spider can do with his psychometry is translate books written in foreign languages he otherwise doesn’t know.
I remembered to snap a photo of this one before I put water all over it, so I can show you how it looked before if anyone’s curious.

If you’re interested, the way this works is that everyone who has read the book leaves a psychic impression on it. If the book has been read enough times, it will ‘remember’ its own meaning. The number of times the book has been read by people who understand the language will far outweigh the times its been read by someone who doesn’t, so he can sense the meaning of the words.
Nettle is impressed because her own psychometry is much too weak to do this. She can do a similar trick with things like combination locks though. That’s easier as you only need to read the physical position of the lock in the past, not the thoughts of past people using it.
Inktober 2015 - Day 12 : mapping pen and markers Visuk suffers from a skin condition that’s something like eczema and something like herpes. Flare-ups last a couple of weeks. Meruch is there to grab his hands if he starts scratching it.
Marker pens count as ink, right?
Inktober 2015 - Day 13 : gel pen Her effect radius for this sort of thing is more than a mile, but if you run immediately she probably won’t bother to chase you.
My only other gel pen picture so far this year didn’t turn out well, so I wanted to try again and check I remember how to do it. Seems to have come out okay.
Inktober 2015 - Day 14 : brush pen and markers Well, Isaac’s looking very pretty and dramatic. The process for this went: Brain: Okay, we’re going to do something different, something subtle, with a proper background and- Hands: Re-hash a theme we already used with the heaviest pens we have and no background, got it!
Inktober 2015 - Day 15 : ink and water It’s nice to make new friends. I was short of time yesterday and realised I hadn’t drawn the mirror twins yet this year! Have they disturbed that grave by climbing on it, or were they attracted by the already restless dead?
Inktober 2015 - Day 16 : mapping pen Sometimes you’re tired and you just want to draw a big pile of hair. Andersen never got on board with the idea of ‘wearing clothes’.
Inktober 2015 - Day 17 : ink and water They’re lost. I’m trying to develop a technique for doing decent backgrounds with this method, but I haven’t quite managed it yet.
