I've had a few posts sitting in my notes app waiting for me to actually make this blog lol. Anyways I've been thinking about Kazuma a lot recently. Capcom left so much about him unsaid, and I'm a writer, so all I can do is create theories and headcanons.

The one that's most likely to be the truth is that for the first few weeks to months of being van Zieks' apprentice, he wasn't all that healthy. No, this isn't a "van Zieks was racist and hurt him" thing, or even a "Stronghart is a bad person" thing (although he is). Actually, I think the two of them would've tried to get him to be healthier, even if it was just for their own benefit.

Just think about it. Kazuma "died" on the Burya, losing his memory and identity. His injuries then were enough that everyone believed Sholmes when he said he was actually dead. After that, he ended up on a boat to Hong Kong. Illegally. There's probably not great healthcare in that situation, especially since he had no money with him. He then had to work to get to England, with a major concussion at least. Doing physical labour at sea during that time already wasn't an easy task, but tack on his condition, and he's not likely to do much recovering.

Once he gets to England, it's implied that he just wanders around aimlessly until Stronghart finds him and recognizes his as Genshin's son. As is shown, London in the 19th century is very racist, and at best there probably wouldn't be many people offering Kazuma help, and at worst, he'd have been attacked.

Throughout all of this, he probably wasn't eating much either. So once he was with Stronghart, one specific doctor would've been given permission to tend to him without the whole mask and cloak business.

Van Zieks wouldn't ever explicitly show concern for Kazuma during his early days as the apprentice, but instead he'd make offhand references to having excess leftovers, or mention an empty room at his manor after a member of his staff left, hoping that Kazuma would say that his living conditions weren't good, prompting a proper response from van Zieks. Nothing would get done with an injured, sleep deprived, and underfed apprentice after all.

Stronghart's motivations are just. Do I need to explain that?

my thoughts: i had a lot of problems with this originally, but once remembering it was a free day, i decided to let myself have fun. this is probably one of the most self indulgent drawings ive made in a while, but i like it a lot. thank you to @spookydetective for coloring this btw!

spoilers for tgaa/dgs maybe? this is just my theories. just me being sherlock holmes but worse. i haven't even finished the last case of the first game yet, im just trying my best here

okay so, these are my notes (ignore how it changes to red pen, i was using a multicolored pen and the black ink died. but hey, now it pops! it's important after all!)

Okay, so! First up is Susato's father, Professor Mikotoba. If memory serves, he said that he knew something while talking about Kazuma (and Herlock did the same) and LATER in the case the judge mentioned that Kazuma had a mission. Professor Mikotoba most likely knows a few people with lots of power, he said he went to london after all, he most likely met some pretty important people.

This leads me to believe that he knows something about kazuma's supposed "mission". And in the case with Natsume, Herlock mentions how London has a "dark past", and knowing how ace attorney usually runs its stories, that could be part of Kazuma's misson, he WAS a star student training to be a lawyer after all. Why not get the best of the best, right?

Now, what could happen due to a dark past? Isolation. And who, pray tell, was KNOWN for a FIVE YEAR ABSENCE from court? BAROK VAN ZIEKS! Again, knowing how ace attorney stories work, this supposed "dark past" that London has most likely aided in his sudden absence! And around that time is definitely when he got his title as "The Reaper of The Bailey".

Now, going back to Natsume, he says how "Everyone is always watching" and that there are "Ears (or eyes, I can't remember) in the walls". Now, what type of person is everywhere, London Bobbies. Who do they work for? Scotland Yard. Who does SCOTLAND YARD work for?! MAEL STRONGHEART.

In the case with Natsume, Herlock says that while London may be a beautiful place, the bigger the fire, the bigger the shadow (or something along those lines). What's the hottest part of a flame? The center. Who's at the center of law in London? Lord Strongheart.

Another thing; Kazuma and Barok have a lot of similar animations. The way the slam their hand on the table, they both have a sprite with their arms crossed, and even one where they're leaning against the table. Yes, Barok's is more for intimidation and Kazuma's is more from confidence (except for the animation of him leaning against the desk, he's just miserable in that one). But again, knowing how ace attorney writes their stories, similar sprites usually signify some sort of connection. Maybe with the dark past London has?

And about the ring on the end, I'm not too sure about it, but it was mentioned in my post about promise rings. However, it most definitely is important, as that seems to be the case with every detail in this game, no matter how small.

So yeah, that's my theory right there. Idk, just felt like yapping.

im really normal about kazuma and ryu (lying) and i was listening to talia from ride the cyclone and remembered this one theory of mine so im putting it here

probably some tgaa2 spoilers so watch out!

so, kazuma's headband, right? it's red, and he specifically got it to "never forget the embarrassment of that day" said day being when he met ryu, and knowing kazuma, it probably started to take on a different meaning from remembering embarrassment to partially remembering how he met ryu because he's a gay little bitch (but the embarrassment part was definitely still there because it's kazuma)

well, he loses his memory, yeah? as such, when we see him again, he has a different outfit, but it has a similar quality to his last one. red. the red jabot he has on his neck. THIS is where my theory begins.

said theory is that red on kazuma represents his memory of ryu. with the headband, he knew he remembered him, that was he best friend (cough cough) so of course he remembered him, henceforth the color red being around his head. but when he lost his memory, he forgot practically everything, even ryu, but this did this stop him from remembering who he was in the end? nope! AND AS SUCH my other theory is: while he didn't remember ryu in his mind, he remembered him in his heart (metaphorically speaking) as kazuma is kazuma, and as such, a stubborn bitch, so of course he wouldn't truly forget a person he loves,

basically, red represents how kazuma remembers ryu, and i will stand by this
