Kill Them With Kindness - Tumblr Posts

I deleted tumblr for finals but I’m back now and I have to tell someone about how symmetrical and poetic it is that we overheard someone calling Nate a wanker in episode 10 when he starts to actually act in a way that is consistent with his morals and what he learned from Ted.

What are they trying to tell us here? That you can do the right thing, even when it puts you in a bad position? That people are gonna talk shit no matter what? That British football fans really like to call people names?

I would like to posit that it is all of the above.

Hey I have a thought nbd just a thought: what happens to the AFC Richmond family when someone leaves? Like leaves for real?

Transitions are so hard. Change is hard. Leaving is hard. And it’s like the one thing the soccer show has not instructed me on.

THIS THIS EXACTLY THIS. IF NATE SHELLEY HAS NO SUPPORTERS I AM DECEASED.

I’m in love with Nate facilitating his own growth through his own connections, through connection with his family, through connecting with his own values. It’s not a Ted inspired speech. Nate did this on his own. He saw through Rupert and left. He worked through his anxiety and fear. He connected back to his family. He did all the work. And I love that Will is the person he made amends to - not the guys that used to bully him, not even to Ted. The kitman he was shit to because Will reminded him of himself, and he tried to treat Will the way his father treated him. The healing, you love to see it.

Okay about Nate’s apology to Will, tho. As someone who has never shut up once in my life, I can kind of relate to both Ted and Nate in the ways they describe and connect things when they talk, especially when they’re trying to be funny.

But Nate doesn’t do any of that with his note to Will. He doesn’t explain. He doesn’t grovel. He just says “I’m sorry.” He doesn’t hide behind clever turns of phrase. He doesn’t even call himself the wunderkind.

Idk I just thinks it takes a lot of courage to let a simple “I’m sorry” like that drift out into the open where anything could happen to it.

IMAGINE RICHMOND IN ITS AFC WIMBLEDON ERA

Kinda want Rebecca to sell Richmond AFC to the fans (collectively) at the end of the show

This week's Ted Lasso episode with Nate's father acknowledging the mistake he made while bringing up Nate and calling him "genius" and prioritising his son's happiness above everything else and this week's episode of The Marvelous Mrs.Maisel where Midge's father acknowledges his daughter's strength and fearlessness and how he regrets the things he didn't do for her.......interesting

WAIT ONE MORE THING: WHO GAVE NOTED KANSAS FAN JASON SUDEIKIS CAROLINA BLUE NIKES? AFTER LAST YEAR’S CHAMPIONSHIP GAME NO LESS? SOCCER SHOW CANCELLED.

Ted Lasso 🤝 ATLA 🤝 being a deceptively deep three-act television comedy about our weakest moments and the choices we make to be better for ourselves and the people around us, featuring some of the best “redemption arcs” ever put to screen.

ted doing the same dance that we see in the pilot if richmond win the match in the finale would be such a slay

Listen I know I’ve been on my “Kansas Fan Jason Sudeikis” soapbox but I NEED everyone to know that “play smart, play hard, play together” was coined by the late Dean Smith, who coached basketball at UNC-Chapel Hill for 36 years. He was an absolute legend who cemented the legacy of the Carolina Basketball program as more than a winning team (Smith won 879 games in his career) but a “Carolina Family.” And I just wanted y’all to know.

As you move through the world, you will always leave something behind. Someone. Sometimes that’s for the best, and sometimes it hurts like a bitch. But to love is to know that you will someday lose. The risk is built right in: the more you love, the more you stand to be hurt by change. But the change will come anyway. And when it does, you will find a way keep on loving, just as you did before. So be sad. Be bitter, even, for a little while. But when you’re done being sad, be a goldfish.

So I put the pieces of this puzzle together, but I’m still thinking about Dean Smith. When Smith took over as head coach, the Chancellor of the university told him that running a “clean program” was more important than wins or losses. Even so, Dean’s only losing season was his first.

Of course, Dean Smith was an alumnus of the University of Kansas. One of his UNC players, who would go on to coach the UNC program from 2003 to 2021, was head coach at Kansas for many years before that. These are the ties that bind, I guess.

If I had a nickel for every time a sitcom featured a funeral scene in which a character mourns their father by leading the congregation in a doleful impromptu rendition of a classic rock song, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot. But it’s weird that it happened (at least) twice.

Listen we don’t need more Ted Lasso. A three act story stands on its own (something something triangles).

What we DO need is the reverse: world-class soccer player comes to play, idk, minor league baseball in the US. Maybe he learns not to take himself so seriously after having to relay race a seven-year-old during the seventh inning stretch.

You have to allow for the possibility that maybe… just maybe… everything will be okay.

there are a lot of things about “you’ve got mail” that make it the best romcom ever written, but i think that part of what is so compelling about it is the idea that you can be forgiven. that someone can see the mean, angry, sad, delusional side of you, and that part just becomes a piece of the whole. the whole, which is full of multitudes and possibilities and bravery to start something new. that whatever pride and prejudice you’re bringing to the table—someone will see through it, right down to who you are when you think no one is looking.

the past weekend was very overwhelming. I tried the best that I could and I’m proud of myself.

I tried my best to not let negativity get to me. Yes it was hurtful but I tried to let my kindness overcome it. like they say “kill them with kindness”

You matter and you are beautiful. Don’t let anyone take your shine away.
