Honestly, it makes sense that jon and martin wouldn’t have found each other in this universe.
A major part of their relationship season five was that they didn’t really know how likely it was they would have started a relationship in the first place, questioning if it was the work of the web. there was always the question but they chose to be together in the end despite the fact that they were unsure and literally spent the last minutes of their lives fighting.
Saying that they never met is in line with their cannon relationship and i’m glad johnny didn’t try to give us fan service to the detriment of the story.
I like to imagine that this was also happening in TMA, and the only difference is that we've changed the perspective. It's like seeing Jon from third person. This is fucking hilarious. It makes me want to imagine fanfics about what Tim, Martin & Sasha (then Not!Sasha) were doing whilst Jon was being a shithead.
gotta love how sam, celia and alice are like “oh no a love triangle! workplace drama this is so awkward hehe” meanwhile miss gwendolyn bouchard is seconds away from having a full-blown mental breakdown over unknowingly aiding a sentient clown mascot in mass murder
Alice is the antithesis of Martin. Martin was shy, awkward, lonely. Alice is overly extroverted, jocular, and seemingly has lots of friends.
But I still think the two might be the same kind of haunted

First thoughts on new magnus Protocol episode

First off:

Second off, what the actual FUCK?
So Celia implying she had the ability to go back, but Jack doesn't, does that mean Jack is native here?
And then the whole magnus institute being treated closer to a cult in this universe, it's less of just some poor saps stuck there with one guy being a devoted follower of the Eye, now it's like they're all actual followers of the Eye, even bringing up schisms (like sects of a religion) on how they think the belief behind Y2K will affect their ritual.
And of course there's the whole some guy's doppelganger crawling from the earth and pulling him in, so that's 2 doppelganger we've seen, (1. Dude and his half brother, now 2. This guy), I'm thinking that the archives universe is bleeding over, if Celia switched, and with multiple doppelganger appearing more frequently I'm starting to think that there may be some growing overlap
Then there's Alice with the whole acknowledging someone in the computers, and treating then with sentience asking about them purposefully giving magnus statements.
And now for the titchular-bitchular Gwen (and Ink5oul), so Gwen doesn't do too bad for a horror protagonist, she wasted no time getting the hell out of dodge and even found help, however, from what it sounded like Ink5oul began controlling the guys barbed wire tattoos and making them real, meaning Ink5oul's tattoo powers aren't just over their own tattoos, but seem to be over any tattoo, and Gwen drops her phone (like that guy dropped his arm)
And for the biggest moment, we here a tape recorder click, and then ad Ink5oul grabs Gwen and trys to get to work, Gwen gets compeled, and begins giving a statement of her own (I for a split second thought it was Julia's from MA:9) and even Ink5oul is freaked out at it, and then some figure (surrounded by whispers like a wind(which could be like Jon's cassettes like we hear in the Web's lair)) appears and says "Mine" "All of them, mine" (who is all, the OIAR?) But doesn't do anything to Gwen at the moment and instead talks about others "There is more." "No. Not here. Elsewhere..." and just leaves, leaving the tape recorder behind where it fucking bites Ink5oul before clicking off.
So the transcript calls this thing "[ERROR]" which is what the thing that appeared at the end of Sam and Alice's outing to the archives was called. This thing is acting like some ghost of the archive, like not the archivist of the past kind, but like if Jon fully lost humanity, but Jon is in the computer, I'm thinking this could kinda literally a ghost of the archive, when the protocol was enacted and the archive burnt down this could be what someone became to survive, or maybe this worlds version of Jonah and he became this monster because of how the powers work here (maybe something about his fear of death and his allegiance to the Eye) or this could be the result of the "universal transmutation" or the fruit of the tree of knowledge.
The tree of knowledge is something I doubt the institute would let burn, so them keeping it for themselves makes sense, and them using it to try and gain higher knowledge would track, and maybe they and the fruit are responsible for that one guy turning into plants (MP:3).
Hopefully next episode answers something, and of course makes me freeze and go "😐" or go "they said the thing!"
Another quick magnus protocol idea/ramble for 21
So Ink5oul mentions specifically scorpions right, scorpions are arachnids like spiders.
And spiders were separated from insects in the corruption, so could this be a reflavor of the arachnid seperstion from TMA
Side note this episode did also mention corruption as an aspect of the statement, so this could be an additional highlight

so i’ve been having some thoughts about the magnus protocol. because my thought is it’s probably unlikely that the taxonomy of the entities themselves is exactly the same in a new universe, so i started thinking about what some alternative conceptions of how they work could be and i stumbled on one that – though it’s obviously not going to be what happens in the show – i kinda liked and wanted to write down.
so the idea is, what if instead of 14/15 distinct entities, it was seven spectrums, each of which contained a full presence of something and its full absence, both of which result in the manifestation of one of the tma-universe fears. like this:
scale: the concept of hugeness and its absence (the vast and the buried)
obscurity: your perceptions becoming strange, or, conversely, reality itself morphing into something unrecognisable (the spiral and the stranger)
permanence: the ending of your own life, or the ending of everything you have ever known (the end and the extinction)
isolation: being truly and completely alone, or never being alone again, being a home for what loves you (the lonely and the corruption)
insight: complete acute awareness, or a complete lack of the ability to perceive that which surrounds you (the eye and the dark)
pulse: the pulse of the roiling violence around you, your pulse in your electrified meat prison, the pulse of the thing that is chasing you (the slaughter, the flesh, and the hunt)
control: the idea that you are being controlled, or the idea that things around you can be randomly, indiscriminately destroyed, and you cannot exert any control to stop it (the web and the desolation)
anyway i think the concept of reimagining the same fears in a different way is neat.

I'm seeing a lot of people attempt to assign the FearsTM to the Magnus Protocol episodes and I want to start by saying I respect it. I do. Love some good sleuthing.
But.
The Magnus Protocol takes place in a new universe, with new rules. Within each case, the figure meeting their grisly downfall is motivated by ~desire,~ not fear.
Desire for love, desire for revenge, desire for success, beauty, fame, etc.
With that in mind, each character within the OIAR can also be defined by desire. Sam wants answers. Alice wants companionship. Gwen wants success. Celia wants freedom. And so on.
In the last series, defeating fear was all someone needed to survive; defeating your own desires would be much harder to pull off.
Start fearing for your favorite character now.
Choice in TMP
Since it's going on hiatus, I relistened to (nearly) all of Protocol yesterday (still have ep 10 to go). And I was thinking about a lot of people saying things like, "They're Desires now, not Fears!" And I don't think that's quite it. What I noticed is that in nearly every case, there is a voluntary act, a choice, that allows the horrors in. And since actions generally follow from desires, it feels like desire is playing a stronger roll in this show.
I've been prepping to run a Mothership campaign for my friends, and the Warden's Guide talks about the TOMBS system of understanding horror: Transgression, Omens, Manifestation, Banishment, Slumber. In TMA, the Transgression was often just being in the wrong place at the wrong time, but in TMP, it seems like there also has to be a choice made, almost an invitation, for the horrors to Manifest. In TMA, a choice was required to become an Avatar, but not just to run into the Fears. Perhaps something about how the Fears entered this world changed this? Maybe Archivist-Jon had enough influence to create some new rules, or Martin's choice that brought them through echoed into the manifestation?
Anyway, I could be entirely wrong, but I'm going to go through the episodes pointing out the Choice (and where it doesn't quite fit).
Episode 1: Arthur's wife reached out to a mysterious company (we don't know why, but it seems likely it was claiming it could put her in contact with her dead husband) Red Canary chose to visit the Magnus Institute Ruins
Episode 2: Daria chose to get the tattoo.
Episode 3: The Doctor chose to follow the smell of jasmine.
Episode 4: The narrator chose to take the violin (but I am less clear on how choice impacted what happened to Oliver Bardwell; that's a bit that doesn't quite fit)
Episode 5: The blogger chose to enter the contest and to attend once he'd "won".
Episode 6: The mugger chose to attack Needles. (And I find myself wondering what Choice Needles made to became as he is)
Episode 7: DMargolis chose to advertise for assistants AND chose to accept the first rather questionable applicant.
Episode 8: Here, the weirdness started before he made the Choice, but he did Choose to enter the elevator to (attempt to) escape. Another that doesn't quite fit, but still has a Choice.
Episode 9: He chose to take the dice (though it does feel like rolling them may be compulsory in certain instances).
Episode 10: There was definitely a Choice made to create Bonzo the character, but I'm not sure we have enough context to figure out more than that yet.
Going to ponder about Protocol for a bit...
What can we guess about "The Magnus Protocol" in-universe?
It is at least as old as Isaac Newton.
It seems to be a way of keeping the Fears in check or balance or some such.
The O.I.A.R. "externals" are part of this effort, getting to use their dread powers to keep other powers from getting too strong.
And some vaguely related speculation:
It's a bit unclear how the timelines between Protocol and TMA connect/overlap/line-up/work, but since it seems that the fears have always been in this universe, presumably once they "enter" a universe, they have been present for the whole of that universe. Does that mean whatever's left of Jon and Martin has also been present for all that time? If so, they could have set up the Protocol themselves, to try and keep the Fears from turning this world into another hellscape. But then, why did their voices only show up on OIAR computers a few years ago?
Hang on. In TMA, Jon needed to read statements (or, well, extract them) to Feed. Are the voices in the computers doing that for him (or whatever's left of him)? Did he have another source that dried up a few years ago, so that he invaded the OIAR computers for a fresh source?
As for what happened to this universe's Jon and Martin, I wouldn't draw any conclusions until we see the bodies, lol. The "reveal" was from weak data and a lot of guesswork.

So it occurred to me this morning that Lena might be unable to feel fear. The only place where we hear sound at all afraid (and even there it might be sadness mixed with frustration) is in the video Gwen uses to blackmail her.
Places I can think of where you would expect someone to be afraid, and Lena very definitely wasn't (probably not exhaustive) :
Finding out an employee is attacking equipment with a hammer, and might have injured another employee.
Finding out an employee was attacked by the external she sent her to recruit (Gwen was very definitely afraid; Lena, uh, nope)
Dressing down Gwen for bringing Lady Mowbray into the OIAR. Lena sounds angry, but not afraid.
When an employee tries to blackmail her with a (failed) snuff tape.
Honestly, it would make sense that they'd want someone immune to fear in charge of the OIAR.
