Yes!! I’m sorry he was what? 12? Maybe it’s my aromanticisum speaking but kids that age don’t fall in love. They can have crushes (which I don’t think is what was happening with Mike TBH) but they don’t fall in love.

Him feeling guilty is much more likely and much more in character. Also makes sense as he almost as if he owes El something.

Broke: Mike was so devastated after El disappeared in season one because he was in love with her.

Woke: Mike felt extremely guilty for essentially using El to find Will and being mean to her at times because he actually started to care for her as a friend towards the end and he felt guilty that she sacrificed herself for him and his friends and it really weighed heavy on his mind because he felt that he didn't deserve that loyalty from El and that El deserved better, plus he literally SAW her "die" which is enough to fuck up any kid.

I’m writing a fanfic about Mike being Vecna’d after everyone lowkey neglects his mental health. I think it’s going rather well.

It also isn’t at all a mean for me to vent. At all. Nope.

I feel like this was rhetorical but imma answer it anyway

You just find the persons most unique features that’s make them look like them and try to copy them over. Same with hair. It’s.. hard to explain.

For Mike it would be his jaw. Finns jaw is noticeably square like and his cheekbones are distinguished. His eyebrows are also low on his face and close together.

For hair just a poofy back mass is what I do.

Clothing can also help to identify the character.

Ok so you know how S3/4 is like the worst? So I have some stuff that might make him seem less like the worst. Most of this is from someone who does byler analyses (causeineedu on tiktok) but I’ve interpreted a bit of it myself.

So basically instead of bi Mike, it’s gay Mike with so much internalized homophobia and comphet.

He loves El, but platonically. And what everyone (including himself for a while) thought was romantic attraction, was actually idolization. Mike constantly referred to El as a “superhero” in s4. Most of the time referring to her powers. He’s just a nerd who thinks El is a real life Superman. Obviously he still sees her as a person, but he doesn’t love her. He uses her to convince himself and others that he’s straight.

Obviously it’s not cool to ignore your friends and only focus on your girlfriend, but he was probably only doing it because it’s his first relationship and he’s like “this is how relationships work right?” He also wants to seem as straight as possible because during s3&4 Mike knows he isn’t straight. He hates it, and he’s trying to stop it, but he knows it.

Another thing people hate about season 4 Mike Wheeler is the painting scene in the van. Mostly the fact that he seemed oblivious to Will crying. But I don’t think he was. Mike read El’s letter in the beginning of the season. El didn’t know what Will was painting, so how could she have commissioned it? Mike knew Will was using El’s name as a mask. He knew Will had feelings he couldn’t share at that moment. Mike knew Will wasn’t ready and respected that. (Also they were in the car with two other people so it wasn’t exactly the place for a full on heart to heart.) And when Will started crying, Mike knew he was crying. He also knew Will was trying to hide the fact that he was crying and probably just wanted to be left alone. Mike probably still doesn’t completely realize Will is in love him but he’s getting there.

Also not to mention Will basically peer pressured him in to telling El he loved her. (They peer pressure each other into being straight it’s so funny.) Mikes entire monologue was just a mix of Will’s words and contradicting what he said earlier in the van. Will basically prompted him to say his love monologue. Mike also mostly did it to trying and save El. It didn’t help. The vines got tighter. The only thing that helped her was her memories with Max. Max is her best friend and was the one who helped her realize her life does revolve around Mike and she is her own person. (Her feelings about Max being romantic could be possible but that’s a talk for another day.) Mike’s monologue didn’t help El except for maybe made her realize that Mike was lying through his teeth to save her and doesn’t actually love her romantically.

I’m conclusion: Mike Wheeler is not an asshole, he just has a lot of internalized homophobia and makes some really stupid decisions because of it.

Let’s analyze the lyrics of the album Green. Starting with “Pop Song 89.”

The lyrics of the second section are: “Hello, I'm sorry, I lost myself. I think I thought you were someone else. Should we talk about the weather? Should we talk about the government?”

First sentence: “I lost myself.” “I don’t know I guess I feel like I lost you or something.” See what I’m saying? Not a lot needed to say.

Second sentence: “I think I thought you were someone else.” Will used El’s name to share his feelings. Mike thought they were El’s feelings. He thought it was El.

Third sentence: “Should we talk about the weather?” In the “super spy” and the “crazy together” scene, they are talking about the shadow monster, which is portrayed in a storm. Weather. Also the whole upside down is kind of portrayed as a storm, so the scene in Hopper’s cabin also counts.

Fourth sentence: “Should we talk about the government?” Hello? Stranger things?? Government?? The government is a huge thing in Stranger things. I can’t remember if/when Mike and Will talked about the government but still.

Also I think is a good idea to mention another line in the song that goes “You know I never knew it could be so strange, strange.” STRANGE. Stranger Things!

Next, a very short one, “Get Up.” It’s literally about trying to get someone to wake up. (Remind you of anything?) Since “wake up” has been said (or sung) to almost every Vecna’d victim, it’s safe to say either Mike or Will will get Vecna’d. Also near the end of “Get Up” there is music that sound like a music box. Robin pointed out and played Nancy’s music box. And she got half-Vecna’d.

All I’m going to say about the next song, “You Are The Everything” is listen to it and read the lyrics. Just think about Mike singing it about Will. It’s just really sweet and sad.

Lil update:

I listened to the rest of the albums and I can’t figure out anything else except for that they mention a compass in “Stand” and “Turn you inside out” sounds like it’s from Vecna’s pov. Also “The Wrong Child” could be about El.

I have an official theory that the s5 time skip is going to skip forward 2 years to 1988 and I need that to happen and here’s why:

Will has an REM poster. Will canonically listens to REM. (great taste) What REM album came out in 1988? Green. Now if you don’t know about the green byler color coding I suggest looking it up somewhere else because I don’t have the energy to explain. Not to mention, Green literally has a song in it called “I Remember California.”

I don’t remember who said it but right after volume 1 came out, someone pointed out that REM can stand for Rapid Eye Movement (again look it up it’s hard to explain) which occurs multiple times throughout the series and especially in season 4.

Another interesting thing is that in Life’s Rich Pagent, one of their albums released in 1986, there is a song (a very popular cover) called Superman.

Season 1

This is the only exception because he hasn’t started realizing stuff yet

Season 2

At the snow ball, he encouraged Will to dance with a girl and then makes this face of instant regret. The snowball scene is when he realizes he might actually like Will.

So he uses El as his straight relationship to try and convince himself and others that he’s straight. Even going to such lengths as convincing himself that he loves her.

But at the end of season 3

Mike has this moment of realization where he might not actually love El romantically.

Which brings us full circle, to the previous post, of him accepting his feelings for Will.

Okay but can we talk about this moment.

I strongly believe that this is when Mike finally ACCEPTED that he loved Will Byers, and he realized that he couldn’t push the feelings away.

It makes me sad how he turns to look at El as if almost wondering “how am i going to tell her?” it’s sad, but I know that El can truly find happiness without Mike, like she did in S3. She’s her own independent, strong woman.
