I remember watching Ninjago when it aired, I was part of the fandom until the end of Rebooted, the I kinda fell off the band wagon. Then around the time Secrets of Forbidden Spinjitzu was airing I’m on Netflix and I go to rewatch the series, but hey there’s now nine seasons instead of the three you remember. I can not tell you how confused I was, since the pilot season wasn’t on Netflix I found the two episodes on Twitch and watched the series.
Now a year ago sometime in December, I thought of rewriting Ninjago, I mean everyone has thought about things that could have been done differently or how to fix plot holes. So my rewrite will be relatively the same, I’ll do my best to cover up plot holes with some added/changed dialog and scenarios, with some more mature themes, more dark aspects and mild to explicate language.
Each book will be equivalent to a season, the same name of the season and episodes will be used for both the book and chapters, most chapters will be around 6000 words, however the filler episodes will contain less words and mostly center around the plot relevant scenes.
I’ll also be posting a book on the side that will be updated as the series continues. Ninjago Extras, it will include a timeline of important events titled with dates, the amount of time between each season. It will have character sheets which will have age, nationality, appetence, etc. I have taken some ideas from the community, considering the Ninja’s appearances from fanart of the characters as human. I am also basing my geography off of joshuad17′s Ninjago Map.
I may also be posting scenarios I’ve already thought up, not quite sure yet.
Do you know what? Screw it I’m gonna post the scenarios I’ve already thought up. Here’s an excerpt from The Stone Army, Lloyd and Misako’s first meeting after 10 years.

“My... my mother?” The teen whispered.
“Lloyd? Oh my little boy. You’re so much bigger then I remember.” She spoke, she past the stunned Ninja making her way to him. Bringing her arm up, the intention was clear, she meant to rest it on his cheek. However it didn’t land as the teen took a step back.
“Don’t touch me.” He growled lowly, this his supposed mother attempted to place her hand on his shoulder for reassurance or whatever she thought it would do. “Don’t fucking touch me.” He repeated with a slightly lower tone swatting the arm down.
“Lloyd, please I didn’t want—“ He quickly cut her off.
“I don’t want to fucking hear it.” He hissed, he pivoted on his right leg, making his way to leave the hall.
“Lloyd, wait. Please!”
“You don’t get to tell me to do shit!” Lloyd whirled around facing the archaeologist, he shoved an accusatory finger at her. “You lost that right... no.” His hands fell to his sides as he reavaluated his words. He looked to her crimson eyes staring down her pale green. “You gave up that right, when you left me at that fucking boarding school!” His hands were clutched so tight, that if it wasn’t for the gloves his nails would have pierced flesh. He turned to leave once again, and this time nothing stopped his leave, he gave a pull and the heavy door slammed shut behind him.

So in my UA Lloyd’s relationship with Misako will be a lot more rockier then what was portrayed in the episode let alone the show. It definitely seemed forgiveness came to quickly, it just didn’t seem natural, a kid who was abandoned wouldn’t forgive the one who hurt them so easily.
Here’s the excerpt from Two Lies, One Truth, it’s quite short about a paragraph, but hey whatever.
I actually thought about this while watching this scene unfold. Harumi explaining why Garmadon couldn’t kill Lloyd.

“A child isn’t born from a side. A child encompasses all.” The explanation was weak, even parents who love and care for their children can still kill them. Something else was at work and it didn’t sit well. He was able to beat his son down with no problem a week ago. Would he have been able to have delt the finale blow then? It would have been better for her plans, but she wouldn’t have her revenge. She just hoped he wouldn’t realize how weak her reasoning was.

As I said earlier, I thought about this while watching the episode. Her explanation was weak, and not based much in facts. Because like I pointed out, even parents who love their child can still kill them, according to FBI statistics, there are over 450 filicide’s each year in the United States alone and most filicide’s are Altruistic (out of love) or Psychotic.
The types of filicide are; Alturistic, Psychotic, Unwanted child, Child maltreatment and Spousal revenge.
So I had mentioned that in my post NinjagoUA about adding “more dark aspects” but Ninjago has a lot of dark aspects, I’d just really have to expand on them. I have even compiled a list of some of these dark aspects. Like TannerFishies had said in his video the other day that the Sons Of Garmadon and Hunted had definitely upped the maturity for the show.

Just because it’s a kids show doesn’t mean it’s just for kids. There is plenty of kid shows that have dark aspects similar to the ones I’ve listed. Search some of these aspects that show up in kids shows and you’ll come across a lot.

Ninjago Rewrite project
I mentioned in my birthday/announcement video that I was going to do a rewrite of Ninjago from the beginning and the entire show.
This will only be until Crystallized, as Dragons Rising is still at the beginning of It's story, so the Rewrite will only consider the first 17 seasons plus the new information from DR.
Ninjago remains one of my favorite shows, but I'd be lying to say that it's perfect or that it doesn't have any problems, because, oh how it does.
I'll break this down into Posts separated from each other about some of the ideas I have in mind. Luckily, you all can give me feedback so I know what else I could include in this rewrite.
I will include the link to my Discord server in case anyone wants to give any additional ideas on the project, this is something I have wanted to do for a long time.

Ninjago Rewrite - World Building
For worldbuilding, thanks to new information provided by Dragons Rising, we have a better idea of how the other realms came to be, but in this case it's important to focus on Ninjago in the moment.
The worldbuilding is a problem because it's as if every supposedly important new place in Ninjago was only introduced in the season in which they are important. For example, ninjas have no way of not knowing about Shintaro since, Apparently...
Shintaro is located close to Sticks City and The Waling Alps! Both locations introduced in Possession!
[This map could very well be wrong, so don't take it too seriously, this was just the easiest map to analyze]
There's nothing wrong with new locations being introduced in different seasons, but it's a problem because it ends up being inconsistent.
And I know world-building wasn't on the show's writers' minds as it was initially only supposed to be two seasons, but that will be taken into consideration as I'm rewriting Ninjago as if the lore and world-building were already planned.
A more concrete way to introduce these elements that would be important later is to actually give a basis that this universe is broader than we know. Like, we don't know much about the culture of these different kingdoms, just the little that was shown to us and for me it wasn't quite good enough.
Just a mention of other realms like Shintaro and the jade palace might work, speaking of the jade palace...
Man, how I hate the poorly explained inclusion of the palace and the royal family! Like, just including them in the story as background and world-building information would be enough for the inclusion of the palace to be realistic!
We will do it this way, the palace has existed there since the founding of Ninjago, the royal family are the founders who initiated the city and that is why they are so important. The palace is not in the center but very close to the people, they are the ones who guarantee unity in the city, the mayor is the one who maintains order and the Borg family is the one who provides technology over the years. Thus creating a sense of importance for the three groups, thus making their roles as important figures in Ninjago City that much more important, Because ther ancestors were important to the founding of Ninjago City. Both in politics and technological advancement.
Another form of worldbuilding would be an engagement of social statuses for the inhabitants of Ninjago. We only see people from the lower states in Sons of Garmadon and Master of the Mountain, but other than that we haven't seen much of the rest of Ninjago.
Maybe Sticks is a poorer city because it has no connections to Ninjago City and therefore doesn't have the same resources, which would make Ronin steal to bring some of there to his beloved city.
What about the serpentines? We know that they created a society in the sewers of Ninjago City, but even after having helped defeat villains several times, they still live in the sewers?? Why didn't they try to fight for their rights to live with humans on the surface? Honestly this would be a very interesting story line to explore in the show, it could be a message about racism and discrimination, I mean, their story is already about discrimination!
They were discriminated against and treated like monsters for being different, it's no wonder they were ok with the serpentine war!
One more thing is that the island of darkness is very generic and even though it is the same size as Ninjago, it is very empty in comparison. Why after the events of the first seasons don't they try to explore more of the place? Why not become a meeting point for villains? Wouldn't it be interesting to have the villains making a base there already? Since no one goes to that place, much less the ninjas who seem to have simply forgotten about the place? I just think the island needs some use other than decoration at this point.
Why are most important places only known to ninjas or other important characters? Why not other people? Why not Cluth Powers? He's an explorer, isn't he??(and yes I will be rewriting him completely because I think it's ridiculous that they took an iconic Lego character and just made him egotistical asshole!!)
Well, in conclusion I plan to reimagine the world of Ninjago as a whole, kingdoms, cities, culture, important locations, realms etc.

Design D was the most popular but after reading comments and consulting my friends I decided to mesh the elements of designs A and D that people liked. It took some attempts to find a nice middle ground also time to actually draw it (see my last post why)

question if you want to answer, in your rewrite, what do you headcanon the Ninja's ages to be? Throughout the series.
In all of my works [except the movie] be it drawing, meme or rewrite:
the og 4 ninja are teens roughly 15 in season 1-7 with Cole bing the oldest at 17 (yes i am aware zane's ancient but for the sake of instances consistency he'll be treated like the others age wise) in s8 onwards they are 18~20s and it goes as the years stated each season (like the time skip after waterbound)
Nya roughly is close to the ninja's ages being 14ish in s1~7 and 18ish post s7
Lloyd in s1 is 10 and I'm one of the those people that still sees him as a kid so he's roughly 14 or 15 post s7
I am aware that my interpretation makes them younger then most people do but idk they are kiddos in my eyes

skybound Thoughts
sooo uh, im thinking about doing a rewrite of ninjago skybound.
im currently rewatching it because of this, and in case i never get around to actually writing anything, im gonna word-vomit onto this hellsite (affectionate) cuz im having Thoughts.
quick tangent though, skybound seems very similar to danny phantom (at least in how the fandom treats it) in the sense that, when you actually watch it, it's pretty tame and honestly kinda shit. but then you dig deeper. and you see the Implications and Possibilities, and suddenly it has you by the throat with all the ways this could have gone if it wasn't a kids show.
like, in skybound you get genuine torture and creepy implications on nadakhan's part (seriously, get away from jay and nya you fucking creep), and while it's never really explored since, y'know, kids show, it makes nadakhan one of the best and most terrifying villains i personally have watched in ninjago.
anyway, here are a couple of things i've been toying with in terms of a possible rewrite:
one thing im thinking about taking from various other fics i've seen (i think its mainly shown in bending but never breaking, which is an absolutely amazing fic and you should go read it but MIND THE TAGS AND TRIGGER WARNINGS PLEASE) is jay learning to use the electricity in his body, though obviously not painlessly
bonus points for his elemental power getting royally fucked up once/if the vengestone is removed, but in the sense of suddenly he is completely overwhelmed and his power is so much stronger and its a danger to both himself and others
queerplatonic jaya: i think in this season especially, nya felt very aroace coded (i might just be projecting as i myself am aroace, but that's the vibe i got) and so for a skybound rewrite nya and jay would have a serious conversation about how nya doesn't feel that way for anyone, even if she *does* really like jay
just general angst and torture
id rewrite jays obsession with nya, specifically his first wish (if i dont just jump right into him being on misfortunes keep)
i think id like to do something more with delara than just her being some dead girlfriend. i.e.: i'd make her fucking unhinged and the kind of person that would fall in love with and support nadakhan.
i really liked @cotidianoseeder's idea for canary!jay, so possibly something in that direction
i also really like it when people keep serpentine aspects in jays character, so some of that as well
fuck it, make him inhuman, y'know?
i'd age everyone up i think (i dunno how old they are in skybound, but a 17 minimum would be in my rewrite)

jay's moral compass afterward is fucked. like, full-on, he would punch a child and kill a guy if he felt threatened. he carries weapons on him because he didn't have his elemental powers for so long and he still doesn't always remember he has them
he's still a good guy fundamentally, but the moment his (or anyone else's) survival is put into question he goes completely fucking feral
he has tons of thoughts after the fact of nadakhan, including some fucked stockholm-syndrome esque ones that he tears himself up over afterwards because nadakhan hurt him and his friends, why does he kind of miss him????

kay, so I haven't gotten anywhere near this part yet, but this specific conversation has been in my head for months, so here's a very rough draft of Nya sort of coming out to Jay as aroace from my skybound fic in the works!

Nya looked down at her hands, breathing deeply. It wasn’t entirely fair of her to explode at Jay like that, she was just so- so angry! She didn’t want to be the ‘girl ninja’, or ‘Kai’s sister’, or ‘Jay’s girlfriend’. Hell, she didn’t want to be anyone's girlfriend!
She opened the door to the room with a soft ‘creeeeakkkkk’, noting how Jay’s feathered ears—still a bizarre and disarming sight—twitched at the sound.
“I- Jay, we need to talk. About- about yesterday.” Jay looked up at her words, and she bristled when she saw the feathers marring his left side. She still wasn’t used to that, though he probably wasn’t either. He looked… well, angry wasn’t the right word. Unsettled, maybe? Wary? Tired, definitely, maybe annoyed, possibly frustrated. With her? She didn’t know.
“I- I don’t… I don’t feel what you feel for me. I don’t love you, not- not like that. I care for you, absolutely, but I don't…” She trailed off. “I don’t feel that way towards you. I don’t feel that way towards anyone. I never have, and I don’t think I ever will.” He was quiet, but he didn’t seem on the verge of freaking out as she sat down next to him on the old bed.
“It wasn’t fair of me to blow up at you, but it hurts, y’know? To be reduced to a prize for two of my best friends to fight over! It- I’m sorry, for how I said it, but I’m not sorry for saying it.” Jay was silent for a moment before he nodded.
“I… I get that. And… I’m sorry too, for what it’s worth,” he said, and she was still uneasy about how his voice had changed. It used to be endearingly high; snippy and full of life, and while it hadn’t, like, dropped or anything, he spoke in a quiet rasp now and he seemed to overthink every word to come out of his mouth. “It wasn’t fair towards you to… to treat you like that.”
