I've made some more mini-notebooks to take to London MCM tomorrow. I've got 10 Free! based ones, so I've only made 4 of each design. (40 seemed quite enough to be sewing in one day.)

I was tired and couldn't come up with a good pose so I... um... drew him as a merman. Shut up.
I gave him black fingernails because I noticed Niu draws him that way in her Marine Biology AU and it makes some kind of sense. If his mouth was open he'd have big, scary orca teeth.

Light Yagami = Orca. Highly intelligent but (and?) a little crazy
L = Octopus. Nifty little orphan genius, does not make it past a year.
Misa-Misa = Shark. Dangerous and scary but also sweet and cute
Matsuda = Retriever dog. He's so bae and extroverted
Ryuk = Parrot, no explanation needed I think
Near = Arctic fox. Keep dens of food around for future planning, strangely unafraid of bigger animals, but prefer to camouflage
Mello = Hyena. Cleverer than he gets credit for cause he's a liiittle crazy. Clan leader w/ tragic backstory
Matt = Dog. Technically pretty intelligent, no idea what's going on, just happy to be there.
Takada = Black cat
