Overwatch Recalled: Zarya

Why did Zarya join Overwatch?

So, on my post about a possible animated short featuring Rein, Brig, Torb, and Bastion, I mentioned making a post about Zarya. So this is that post!

In the behind the scenes of OW2 at Blizzconline, we get to see a lot, including images of work in progress animated shorts and cutscenes. In a bunch of these clips are rough drawing with only a few fully animated parts, but with these rough drawings, you can learn a lot. While going through these clips I found a bunch that has a character that I am sure is Zarya. She is mostly drawn in pink lines (which make sense since her hair is pink) and all of the clips she is in is with the Recalled Overwatch. 

When I saw this I was like, “Oh cool! Zarya’s in Overwatch!” but then I was like, “Wait why is Zarya in Overwatch?” So I’ve put some thought into it and I think I have a good idea of why she joined Overwatch. 

When I started, the 1st thing I did was reread the Zarya and Sombra comic, Searching. The TLDR for the comic is that it is after the Infiltration animated short, Katya Volskaya sends Zarya to find Sombra with an Omnic named Lynx Seventeen, they find Sombra, Sombra tells Zarya about her deal with Volskaya and hacks Lynx. Sombra gets away and Zarya saves Lynx. 

So, by the end of the comic Zarya doesn’t like Volskaya, but isn’t going to say anything, based off of her interaction with Lynx she is slowly moving away from the idea of hating all/most Omnics, and she is mad at Sombra. So, I think she is going to end up joining Overwatch since she is mad at Talon and Volskaya probably doesn’t trust her as much. I think this will be really good for her character development because she will need to work with two, maybe three, Omnics, Echo, Bastion, and hopefully Orisa.  

Anyways, TLDR: Zarya is going to join the Recalled Overwatch to fight Talon. She will also have good character development due to her working with Omnics. 

Overwatch Events: 2021 Winter Wonderland Skin Ideas

Alright, so I know that I said that I was going to cover the first issue of New Blood over last week's break, but I just wasn't able to get it done. So, I think I am going to push that off until later when I have more motivation to actually do it. I was just kind of busy over the break. My family hosted Thanksgiving this year, I have been sick for the past few days, I have a decent amount of catching up to do in terms of school work, and I have about 2 weeks of school left until the Winter break and it's just been a lot!

So, I wanted to just do something kind of simple and fun, and my brain immediately went to the upcoming Winter event(I can't believe it's already December). Now, enough of me rambling, on to the ideas! Heads up, this is kind of a long one, I didn't realize how long this would get, but oh well!

I will be referencing Master Ian Gamer's Hero's skin chart in this video for who I think should be getting Winter Wonderland skins. Watch the video if you want more information about why I picked out the heroes I did. (Also, sorry some of the images are really big. It just came out that way).

Ashe: The only winter skin Ashe has is her Epic skin, Winter. Considering Ashe got a Legendary skin during this year's Summer Games Event, I believe it is less likely that she will get a skin, but still possible. If she were to get a skin, I think it should be based on her Snowball Fight spray which I think could be an Epic or Legendary skin.

Baptiste: Baptiste has no Winter Wonderland skin. I think that he could get an Epic or Legendary skin since he doesn't have one already. I think it would be cool if he got a skin, Epic probably, but maybe Legendary based on his Snowball Fight spray.

D.Va: Like Baptiste, D.Va doesn't have a Winter Wonderland skin. I think that she should get a Legendary skin since she hasn't gotten a skin in over a year, her last skin being her 2020 Halloween Terror skin, Shin-Ryeong. I think that a Legendary skin that turns Tokki(D.Va's mech) into a sleigh would be really cool and I think that it would fit well with Maddy Jean's Festive D.Va(left/upper image, I don't know how it will look depending on the device you're using). Otherwise, an Epic skin could be based on D.Va's Ornament spray (right/lower image).

Genji: Since Genji just got an Epic skin with the Halloween Terror Event, if he got a skin, I think it would end up being a Legendary skin. Genji does not have a Winter Wonderland skin, but, like D.Va, I think a decent skin for him would be based on his ornament spray. Although, I think giving Genji a casual skin to match with Hanzo would be really cool.

Orisa: Orisa does not have a Winter Wonderland skin, but she has some of the coolest fan concepts for the Winter Wonderland Event! Kai Chang on Artstation created this amazing Reindeer Orisa concept art(left/upper) and Maddy Jean on Artstation also created her own rendition of Reindeer Orisa(right/lower). I think that both of these skins would end up being Legendarys if they were added to the game.

Wrecking Ball: Like most of the other characters on this list, Wrecking Ball does not have a Winter Wonderland skin. I think that they could make an Epic skin based on his Stocking spray(left/upper), but I also think they could make a snowball or snowglobe-themed Legendary skin. An example of a Snowglobe themed skin would be the image posted by Devygone on Reddit(right/lower).

Winter Wonderland 2021 and Other Things Going On!

Alright, there's a bunch of news to go over so I'm going over it!

We're getting a D.Va and Orisa skin for the 2021 Winter Wonderland event! The 2021 Winter Wonderland event will begin on Thursday, December 16th, 2021, and end on Thursday, January 6th, 2022. God, I can't believe it's almost 2022! We will be getting Sleighing D.Va which is super cute and we will be getting some type of reindeer Orisa skin, but no name has been confirmed as of the time I am writing this.

New Blood Issue #2 was released today! I haven't fully read it yet, but I have skimmed over it. I will work to make a post about it and issue #1 of New Blood once my winter break starts, so sometime next week.

There will be a collection of the Overwatch short stories, that was connected to Character Challenges, which is going to be released in August 2022. The most interesting part of this is that while the cover does have images of previous short story covers, it also has Reaper on the cover who does not yet have a short story. This means that we will be getting a Reaper short story and we will probably get a Character Challenge with it.

You can now pre-order a new concept book of Overwatch called the Art of Overwatch Volume 2. It's being sold on Barnes and Noble, a hardcover copy, for $49.99 USD.

Anyways, I'm going to be pretty busy until Friday considering it is almost winter break, so I might be a couple hours late in terms of updates, but I'll try to have them out around the time they are announced. Is there anything you all are excited about? I'm really glad we got a D.Va skin! ~ Nova

Overwatch Events: Winter Wonderland 2021 Skin Announcements - Orisa and Genji

Alright, sorry this is a few hours late! I was helping run a Gingerbread completion with my school's German Honor Society, so I was at school until 5:30pm which is kind of late for me since I normally get home at 3:15pm. Now, onto the news.

It was announced that we will be getting two more legendary skins! During the 2021 Winter Wonderland event, as well as Sleighing D.Va, we will be getting Reindeer Orisa and Ice Wraith Genji. I'm really happy about the Orisa skin, it's exactly what I wanted and I like the Genji skin. The Winter Wonderland event will begin on Dec. 16th, 2021, and will end on Jan. 6th, 2022.

Overwatch Events: 2021 Winter Wonderland Event!

Alright, the 2021 Winter Wonderland event has finally begun! The event will be running from now until January 6th, 2021. You will be able to get five legendary skins and three epic skins.

The Epics are Peppermint Bark Brigitte(week 3), Mistletoe Symmetra(week 2), and Wooltide Tracer(week 1).

The Legendaries are Snowboarder Baptiste, Sleighing D.Va, Ice Wraith Genji, Reindeer Orisa, and Snowman Wrecking Ball.

You will be able to get the epic skins during their corresponding weekly challenge by winning a minimum of 27 games(lose = 1 point, win = 2 points) and you will be able to get the legendary skins for 3000 credits each.

Overwatch Events: End of the 2021(2022) Winter Wonderland Event

Alright, just wanted to put out a reminder that the Winter Wonderland event will be ending this Thursday January 6th, 2022.

Until then, you will be able to get all legendary skins, sprays, the highlight intro, emotes, and the Peppermint Bark Brigitte items.

To get the Brigitte items, you need to get 9 points(icon), 18 points(spray), and 27 points(skin). Every game counts with wins being 2 points and losses being 1 point.

Anyways, I hope you all are having a good 2022, it's been pretty good for me so far. We got a bunch of snow where I am living and I'm happy that it actually feels like winter now! Also, I'm going to try to put out a ranking post about this events skins, so that'll be out as soon as I can get it done. ~ Nova.

Overwatch Events: Winter Wonderland 2021 Ranked Skins

Alright, I mentioned in my previous post that I was going to rank all of the skins from this events, so let's get to it.

Epic Skins:

1. Wooltide Tracer - I really like this skin. I actually think that it's one of Tracer's best epic skins. I love the texture/details on her sweater, scarf, and guns. I think that it's a basic skin idea that was executed really well.

2. Mistletoe Symmetra - I think that it's pretty. The colors look great and it has enough of each color that it looks good. The only thing that I don't really like is the shape of her crown thing, I wish it was in a more Greek wreath like style.

3. Peppermint Bark Brigitte - I don't really like this skin. Brigitte deserved better. I like the color scheme and I like the look of her shield, but her hair look horrible. They should have just put it in a ponytail. If it was like that, then it would have been fine, but the hair just ruins the skin for me.

Legendary Skins: I just want to say that all of these skins are really good, but there are just a few things I would want changed.

1. Reindeer Orisa - We've been waiting for this skin. I can't tell you how many videos I've seen suggesting this and I think it is a great concept and was executed well. I think that it's super cute and goes great with the D.Va skin!

2. Sleighing D.Va - Like the Orisa skin, I think it's cute. I think that Tokki look really good, I like the antler's on the back since it makes it match with Orisa, but it still looks like a sleigh. I love the pattern on D.Va's dress and I like that they gave her boots. The only thing that makes me put it as second is that I think D.Va hair should have looked different.

3. Ice Wraith Genji - I think it's great. I really like the color palette and, even if it wasn't intentional, the cat ears are awesome. I love his sword and shurikens. The only thing I would want changed is the back of his head. Everything is very detailed, but the back of his head is really plain.

4. Snowboarder Baptiste - I really like this skin, but it's pretty simple. I don't think that it's a bad thing. I think that concept and execute was good, it's just not super vibrant. I still really like how they textured his gun and clothing.

5. Snowman Wrecking Ball - I do like the Wrecking Ball itself, it's a cool combination of snowman, snowball, and sleigh. But I don't like Hammond with a beard. I just don't like it, it looks so weird. I would have probably put it higher if they got rid of the beard.

Overwatch Events/OW2 News: Combat Medic Baptiste and New Ability Kits

Alright, sorry for the late update. This past week was super chaotic, I had a lot of school work, but I wanted to post a quick update, so here it is.

The Week 3 Challenge for the Anniversary Remix Volume 1 has begun. You can win Combat Medic Baptiste by playing 27 games total (a win counts as two games). You also win his player icon and sprays (one of which features Mauga).

2. The ability kit for Doomfist was announced today. Here is the link to the tweet from the official Overwatch twitter. The mains points are the following: he is now a tank, he has a blocking ability that charges his rocket punch faster, uppercut was removed, and seismic slam acts more like a Winston jump.

3. The ability kit for Orisa was also announced today. Here is the link to the tweet from the official Overwatch twitter. Most of her abilities have been changed or deleted, so I will include an image below explaining her abilities.

4. Sojourn's official abilities have been announced. Here is the tweet that announced it. I will also include the image of the ability list below.

5. As excited as I am to play Sojourn, I am also excited about the upcoming cinematic that has been announced that focuses on Sojourn (especially since she has a pet dog in the footage we have seen). I will include a video talking about it here. This videos also address' the quick look we get at Roadhog's OW2 appearance which I will be discussing in a separate post because of the lore implications that I think are tied to his look.
