Too many servants. It’s bad for you not to know how to do for yourself.

He’s going to have to learn.  I don’t think his maid or his gardener will help him put away groceries or cook him dinner. He doesn’t have any other staff. At some point he may acquire a robot “butler”, but no one in the neighborhood sells Servos just yet. Malcolm is just going to have to become a real grown up and take care of himself.

penig answered your question “Books Meme”

You know there's more books in the Seer and the Sword world? The Healer's Keep and Light of the Oracle. See http://www.victoriahanley.com/ .

I did know that.  I read The Healer’s Keep and I think I read Light of the Oracle, but that was years ago and I don’t remember either of them leaving much of an impact.  I’ll have to check both of them out again.  Thanks for reminding me!  :)

I *thought* she was the reporter before! And I was wondering how you had her again in this game, but I just assumed I'd mixed her up and she was a townie after all. Good to see her again either way! :D

Yep, it’s her.  I’ll be interested to see where her relationship with Malcolm goes this time.  She’s not quite the same character.

I love how excited Malcolm looks. “Oh, boy, you’ve learned to dazzle! That’s so great! The stars will rise over your business now!”

Yeah.  :)  I think Malcolm is kind of in awe of Checo, who is older and has been in business longer than he has.  I don’t remember if Malcolm has learned to dazzle or not (probably not; he didn’t do much at his businesses yet, I don’t think...) Checo would be a pretty good mentor for him, if Malcolm decides to pursue that friendship.

There are a lot of replies today, so I’ll hide them under the cut.  Thanks @didilysims, @holleyberry, @yakumtsaki, @penig, @gayars, and @squeezleprime for your feedback!  It’s great to know that you’re all reading. :)

Dare to be different! I'm also digging the first guy's surfer dude look, so yeah, I'll root for him. ;)

I think in this case I will be different, unless Jodie makes it really clear that she wants to be with Pierce.  She didn’t seem as interested in dating as her brother, so I may put that off for her for a while and let her focus on her business.  But maybe surfer dude will turn out to have made an impression and we’ll see him again.  Who knows?

On upping the queue:

penig replied to your photoset “Thoughts on Bluewater:  Larson Business Twins, Round 1 I’ll be...”

You need to shift the focus of the challenge to something more fun for you. Your first problem was the bickering - find a way for the competition to turn into a bonding. Also, let Jason have his disasters! If he's getting trounced in the business through bad luck while she's sitting pretty, that's a vector of change.

Thanks for the thoughts.  I’d be happy to let Jason have his disasters if they were really his fault and not mine, but like I said above, I’m pretty sure most of the issues were caused by me and my crappy business designing.  And a random lightning strike...

Honestly, it’s been a month or two since I played that round and went through all that frustration, and I think I’m getting over it.  Watching it play out again as the posts queued up, I started to enjoy the competition between the twins.  I want to watch their interactions on other lots and with other sims and see what happens there.  They may never learn to get along.  Some siblings don’t.  We’ll have to see what the future holds.

On who is winning between the twins:

gayars replied to your photoset “Which twin do you think is “winning”?  It’s a pretty close race.  ...”

The girl is prettier :D

If it was a competition for who was prettier, Jodie would totally win.  Although I think she and Jason are actually identical twins, so maybe the features just look better on a girl than a guy?

squeezleprime replied to your photoset “Which twin do you think is “winning”?  It’s a pretty close race.  ...”

Jodie

I’d agree, although it is pretty close.  Jodie got the reporter, though, and the award, so that did push her into a lead just a bit.  We’ll see what happens next time, I guess!

Thanks for all the replies, guys!  I really appreciate it.  The Jacquet round starts tomorrow and I am so excited for you guys to see it!  I seriously have not had that much fun playing in Bluewater since the Landgraab round!  :D

penig replied to your post:Surprise beautiful person! Once you get this you...

Cats are not nearly scared enough of sewing machines! The draw of all that fabric and all the work surfaces is much greater than the threat of the whirring. Get one of those patterns that claim you can make them in an hour. It’ll take longer, than that the first time, but the learning curve will be small and you can make it 2-3 times and then go on to more complex projects.

Maybe I’ll pull it out this weekend and see how he reacts.  I’ll take a look for patterns.  I made a few simple things this summer--not clothes but a couple of quilted bags and some pillows.  Thanks for the advice. :)

Kat Household Replies

I have been horrible about responding to replies lately, so have a bunch.  And a picture of my real cat, because he’s adorable.

Kat Household Replies

penig replied to your photoset “Tara:  Help!  The cat is indecisive and I can’t go in until he does!  ”

Cat-owner problems! And if you pick him up and carry him in, he expects you to do that every time.

I usually use my foot to gently encourage the cat to make up his mind, but I guess that’s not an option in the Sims.  :)

penig replied to your photoset “Tara called the police to report Samantha missing.  The police don’t...”

Yeah, you've really got to wonder about their priorities.

I know, right?  I mean, a missing cat is surely the worst thing that’s happening in Bluewater tonight.  Why can’t they send out a team to find the poor thing and bring her home?

esmeiolanthe replied to your photoset “The fire went out, but it looks like Samantha ran away!  I’ve never...”

Actually, no you wouldn't. I didn't even consider the possibility that cats could run away, so I didn't bother putting anything in the points about that. Maybe I should?

Huh.  I thought I’d seen something in the rules about cats running away.  I guess not?  I would take off points.

katrisims replied to your photoset “The fire went out, but it looks like Samantha ran away!  I’ve never...”

Ouch! Well on the plus side, at least the fire's out. And maybe you can get poor Samantha back yet.

I’d never had a cat run away in game before.  Of all the cats who could have run away, though, I think Samantha would be the best equipped to live on her own in the wild.  She really seemed to like rolling around in the street and running about like a crazy thing.

sims2simmies replied to your photoset “Tara, what did you expect?  If you tease the cat and get her all riled...”

Guilty. I do the same as well. Anyway, Tara show have known that there was going to be consequence to what she did.

We should all know there are consequences for teasing a cat, but they’re just so cute!  I think the cute tends to make us forget what happened last time.

Thanks for all the replies, guys!  I’m glad you’re enjoying the Kat household.  :)

Overdue Replies

Hoo boy!  I am so sorry it’s taken me this long to reply to all your replies.  I blame my iPad.  Ever since I got it, I’ve been using it more than my computer.  It’s harder (read: more work) to do replies on the iPad, so I have been neglecting it. Sorry! Thank you all for replying.  I really love seeing your reactions and feedback on things.

penig replied to your post “End of Round 1”

Use away. I take it as a compliment.

Thanks!  I really do love them.  It’s clear you put a lot of work into it all. :)

sweetpea928 replied to your photoset “The Kims were pretty fun to play.  There wasn’t a lot of story again,...”

I also usually only play with cats because they are self-cleaning :) In real life, I am more of a dog person though!

I am a cat person in real life as well as in Sims.  Dogs are great, but they are so much more work than cats.

didilysims replied to your photoset “Cynthia and Robert went to the Tinkers’ toy store to get some things...”

Hoo boy.

Yeah...these two are not going to do well as parents...Their children will be horribly spoiled and horribly neglected at the same time.  Justin may be the only one who gets out of this challenge somewhat normal.  (And he might be turning into a werewolf.  We’ll see.)

didilysims replied to your photoset “Cynthia:  Gee, I can’t see the fish.  There’s all this green stuff in...”

Ew... Looks like this family needs a maid.

Yeah, that would be helpful.  I don’t remember if I decided they were allowed to have one or not...

penig replied to your photoset “Here’s another job that kids can’t do–cleaning the fish tank....”

Roll up your sleeves, dumbass...

But complaining is so much more fun!  And less work.

penig replied to your photoset “Cynthia:  Bob, I’ve got some big news.  I’m pregnant! Robert:...”

Not so much sweet as "putting an unreasonable load on her." Nobody should be anybody else's entire focus!

True.  The adult Kims’ obsession with each other is going to affect everyone around them, but I’m not sure they care.

penig replied to your photoset “How many times can I say that I love Justin?”

As many times as you want!

I love Justin I love Justin I love Justin I love Justin! He is such a sweetheart!

penig replied to your photoset “Robert has a want for Cyd to be cured of lycanthropy, so I’m not sure...”

Ooh, yes, he'd be able to talk to Gabby and he'd love it!

I think he’s going to do it. We’ll see what happens when he becomes a teen, but since he’s basically being raised by the dog, I think Justin would love to be able to be closer to his canine friends.

penig replied to your photoset “Gabby met another dog at the park, but they didn’t get along.  She did...”

She didn't have to establish a pecking order with the cat. Instant capitulation; let the cats work all that out.

True, true.  I’ll be interested to see if Gabby gets along with another dog if/when we get another one for her to breed with. (I think that’s part of the rules for this challenge.  It’s been a while since I looked them all over...)

I think that’s everybody. I’m sorry if I forgot you.  I am going to try to get better about replying to replies. Bluewater Round 2 is starting soon, but I haven’t actually finished playing the Landgraab household yet, so the queue may run out at some point.  (I do have a 3 day weekend coming up, though, so I will try to get some simming in to build things up.)

Replies on Malcolm and the newspaper article below the cut for @penig, @didilysims, @katrisims, @raptorsims, and @holleyberry. The Landgraab round ends this weekend! Thanks so much for all the feedback! :)

didilysims replied to your post “Emotion Prompt: Hurt”

Poor Malcolm. I wonder what other newspaper readers' reactions are to this story. Any forthcoming Letters to the Editor?

I don’t know. Malcolm doesn’t actually have a lot of friends in Bluewater.  He has a lot of customers, but he’s spent the majority of his time outside of work getting to know Abby.  I don’t know that anyone in town will feel strongly enough about this to write a Letter to the Editor.  (How sad is that?)

penig replied to your photoset “What the hell?”

She wrote that fast! The autobiography must have an index.

I think Abby probably had most of the article written up beforehand.  She had to do some fact checking (hence the autobiography) and she needed the quotes from Malcolm, but the rest could be written and saved until she could fill in the blanks.  She also had Mr. Fleming the lawyer as a source (as revealed in today’s post). This whole thing has been cooking for a while.

katrisims replied to your post “Emotion Prompt: Hurt”

Poor Malcolm. He so didn't deserve this.

holleyberry replied to your post “Emotion Prompt: Hurt”

This was so heartbreaking. Poor Malcolm.

didilysims replied to your post “THE BLUEWATER HERALD”

Hoo boy

katrisims replied to your post “THE BLUEWATER HERALD”

Oh no, that wasn't nice at all. :(

raptorsims replied to your post “THE BLUEWATER HERALD”

Nooooo Abby pleeeease

katrisims replied to your photoset “What the hell?”

Oh dear...

holleyberry replied to your photoset “What the hell?”

Poor Malcolm.

Poor, poor Malcolm indeed. He needs a hug, poor guy! I’d promise that it’ll all work out for him in the end, but I honestly don’t know that. I haven’t planned or played past this round. I do prefer happy endings, though, so I suspect things will get better eventually.

I’m trying to get better about replying to replies, so here are some more for @holleyberry, @penig, and @sweetpea928.  I also want to let @dunne-ias know that I see you going through the Kat household posts from Round 1.  You’re nearly caught up!  You can do it!

Replies below the cut.

Oh my! Who possibly could have written that last letter? I'm super curious now.

I have a few ideas.  ;)  We might get to see one potential writer this round (we’ll see where that goes) but I figured that would be a valid response to the article for a certain kind of girl.  I mean, Malcolm went around town looking for a date but I don’t think he mentioned the “I am very rich and live in a mansion” thing right off the bat.  There are women out there for whom that is a big turn on and some of them live in Bluewater.

penig replied to your post “Letters to the Editor”

If they print any of those, Malcolm should feel a lot better. Also, prostituting oneself for a story is highly unprofessional.

Yes it is.  It is very unprofessional.  I honestly don’t know how much of what Abby did was genuine and how much was just for the story, but it doesn’t really matter.  Unless her uncle pulls some strings or something, I don’t know how much longer she’ll be working at The Bluewater Herald. (I’m pretty sure her editor is also in big trouble, letting one of his reporters use those methods and then print a story like that.)

sweetpea928 replied to your post “Letters to the Editor”

I'm so mad at Abby right now...

holleyberry replied to your photoset “9 am. Bluewater Herald offices. “Bluewater Herald. This is Abigail...”

*Resists using a derogatory word to describe Abby*

I am torn between laughing evilly and completely agreeing with you guys.  I had fun setting up the plot twist, but I also had fun writing the angry letters in that set and letting out a bit of my feelings on the matter.

penig replied to your photoset “9 am. Bluewater Herald offices. “Bluewater Herald. This is Abigail...”

The plot thickens!

Indeed!  ;) Now I just need to figure out what happens after this.  (I have the rest of Round 2 to figure it out, I guess...Anyone have ideas?)

On Drabbles:

nestadaughter reblogged your photo and added:

I wasn’t sure if you played John before, but I figured he was popular enough a character to request him. And it turned out well! John is such a trainwreck. And Natasha was lovely. Grilled cheese and nothing else matters ;)

At some point I will go through with my long-held plan to recreate Desiderata Valley in my non-Freetime game and play with all those characters. And the ones from Belladonna Cove.  I’ve downloaded them from MaxisTaste about 17 times...

In the meantime, I have seen so many people play John and Natasha (and visited their pages on the Sims Wiki so many times) that I can figure out how to write them.  I had a lot of fun coming up with my own version of them.  :)
