I think we should keep something in mind this Christmas/holiday season. As the Christian narrative floats around, the white swaddled newborn plastered on billboards, and the focus on what's "sacred" and "holy" circulating through churches around the western world...

The body being "sacred" has nothing to do with some fucked white European idea of chastity or purity. It has absolutely EVERYTHING to do with making sure people are able to feed themselves and their children, not be straight up poisoned by pollutants, or fetishized and exploited for profit. Holiness has nothing to do with being clean or looking your Sunday best.

It was never actually about "purity" or "virginity" or "cleanliness". If it was, why the hell would Jesus have been crucified? The real historical dude said stuff that pissed off people in power so much they fucking merked him. Nothing pisses off agrarian feudal lords or modern capitalists more than telling the masses that they aren't simply morally justified, but on the side of GOD when they steal medicine and food for their children. If you don't believe me, I highly recommend reading William Herzog's "Parables as subversive speech", read about what theologians actually think historical Jesus was talking about all those years ago. Whether you believe in God or not, think religion is a plague or pray a rosary every night, I think keeping this in mind is like super important.

Christianity becomes dangerous and, in the opinion of this demon girl, blasphemous when it is removed from the context of its social cause, when it's co-opted by those in power and disarmed of the radical rhetoric that it was born from originally. I think that's exactly what we see in broader society. I think that an entirely rational response to this is to equate all of Christianity or even all of religion with evil... But I think there's nuance here.

To be clear, I stand with the satanists who support the fight for separation in church and state by chastising the corrupt institutions who have become the opposite of what they claim to espouse. I stand with the atheists who keep the naive theologians in check, and offer peace to the people who have been ravaged by the monster modern Christianity is to so many. Don't stop doing what you're doing. If Jesus was standing here today he'd be standing with you. You're fighting modern day pherisees out here and I'm for it.

Now, this is not to say there aren't problematic things that were always present in the Christian religion, of course there are. And they're quite abundant. I think Christians need to be very aware of that as well. There's nuance there. What I'm calling for here is a realization that the religion of the oppressed is not the same as the religion of the oppressor, and that the religion of the oppressed, when not stripped of its merit and co-opted by systems of greed, can be a force for good. And when we use that lens to look at this bizarre spectacle we call "Christmas", we can learn some interesting stuff.

What I'm saying is, if you're trans, gay, whatever, for the love of God, literally, please LIVE. Listen to your friendly demon izalith. By existing as who you are, you are sacred. Don't let the people wearing robes and claiming to be on the sides of angels and "God" tell you who you can or can't love, or what you can or can't be. If there is a God out there, and he's with those punks, then he's no god. I spit on his name. Angels are overrated anyways... It's the demons, the poor person who steals from Walmart to feed themselves and their children, the prostitute who is proud of their job and the life they work hard to sustain, the fat trans person who goes to Christmas mass in goth makeup... It's those people who the religion was originally made for. It wasn't made for the rich, the white, the straight, the normative. It was made for us. For all those people who are downtrodden, cold this winter, unable to buy food, scared and tired. Fuck that shit they used to traumatize us and belittle us when growing up. It's all lies and venom anyways. If no one loves and accepts you, this demon will.

As far as I'm concerned, if your religion doesn't stand with the queers, then your religion doesn't stand at all. It's either just posing or straight up actually the problem.

Queer theology too. I mean, like seriously, this is like "no shit, duh" to us leftist Christians.

Like, the religion literally started with a revolutionary getting executed so clearly there are some radical left ideas I mean cmon??

Trans women are touched by the divine and you can taste it on them. You should try. You should get yourself an entire goddamn mouthful.

I can't walk into a church anymore,

For when I do I weep.

Because the god I see there has been shackled

Just like me.

You don't even need to not be Christian to see how deeply fucked imperialist theology is. That kind of Totalitarian Theology (or T-Theology as it is called so by seminal queer theologian Marcella Althaus-Reid) should be the enemy of all compassionate humans, not merely those who are non-christian. It is especially heinous to me when Christians defend the atrocities committed by their own religion. I consider doing so an affront to God, and a heresy of the deepest variety.

In fact, according to Althaus-Reid, it is exactly this kind of theology that is at the heart of many of the most egregious theological shortcomings in Christianity, and in essence, an attack on God itself.

"When the missionary novella, that genre favoured by imperial churches, flourished theology was very aware of the need of eliminating the possibility of a Shadow-God, that is, condemning theology to damn God by a sudden closure of sex and race." (Althaus-Reid, 2003)

Note: the "shadow god" discussed here is all elements of God that are deemed queer, not eminent enough, or too sexual or "indecent". You know, like being poor and dirty? The stuff that Christianity claims it represents... Kinda contradictory, no?

What I'm saying is, even in the framework of our own religion Christians defending this sort of colonial project makes zero sense.

honestly missionaries are evil. the idea of traveling the world to tell people Who Didnt Fucking Ask that their beliefs are wrong in the hopes that theyll adopt your beliefs seems sinister

As a queer Christian here I want to add a bit about how my religion has caused these issues and how it's affected me and other queer Christians personally

Normative Christianity has a SERIOUS issue with just casually doing sexual violence to just so so many peoples from natives to trans people to literally like all women. It's disgusting.

I have here yet another relevant banger quote from one of my favorite queer theologians, Marcella Althaus-Reid on the way purity and Totalotarian-Theology has nestled it's way into the center of Christian (particularly Roman Catholic) thought: "Theology can see blood in wine but not blood in blood. The Vatican can see tears in the eyes of the statues of the Virgin Mary, or sweat on her robes when considering the legitimacy of a claimed apparition, but cannot see a trace of semen on her skirts." (Althaus-Reid, The Queer God)

As a queer Christian I am of the firm belief that reclaiming and queering the religion is one of the best ways to combat this. Althaus-Reid talks about how God has been closeted, how the god of the lower classes was seen as "impure" and so the god of evangelical and many modern Christians is made in opposition to these. It's defined in a similar way hegemonic masculinity is defined as the antithesis of femininity. Gay and slutty god has been thrown into the closet. We need to make some drastic changes to our theology to account for the experiences of all people, especially the poor, the gay, and the oppressed. That's like, the whole point of the "preferential option for the poor". So when asked if I believe Mary was a virgin, honestly, I'm not so sure I think we should insist she is. And I'm not just talking about faith and miracles. That's another conversation. I'm speaking from a purely utilitarian theological lens. What do we gain by making that claim really? Like, what is it about virginity that's so "immaculate"? It's an old metaphor and we need to drop it in favor of more fruitful ones because clearly this is hurting people. To any Christians reading this; our metaphors have become stale af guys, the theology we seem to have given to the masses islike, the fast food of theology... let's do better?

Reclaiming sexy lesbian nuns or an "impure" depiction of Mary or Jesus is part of my religion; I think the metaphor is a better fit for human experience, I think it's fundamentally more divine. More human. Purity culture is SO midcentury. Bad bitch nuns wear thigh highs and goth makeup and god says "yeah bitch, slay".

they’re doing slutty nun discourse on twitter

He can come build a church with me. Let's do it. Trans Male nuns are my religion. Hed fit right next to the Enby priest with big naturals who talks about kenosis and theodicy being process and that this alludes to the transgender experience.

This is why queer theology is so important. You gotta break down the massive amount of BS somehow. Doing it by being unabashedly gay with your theology to me is the best way to respect and dunk on your tradition at the same time.

Lots of religious gay people like me like our culture and tradition, and even some of the theology and philosophy, but can't stand the corruption, discrimination, and hierarchy. I think being a disabled trans Catholic communist personally.

So yeah, I wear my trans flag arm warmers to church. I wear my skirt and choker too. God is gay and Jesus is black motherfuckers.

It is not brave or edgy. I consider it a baseline moral duty to make fun of the Catholic Church.

Personally I'm of the opinion that there's divinity to be found all throughout life, and I think nature tends toward complexity, toward beauty, as things evolve there is more created and more divinity. And as things get conscious and start feeling and experiencing I think that there's a form of natural apotheosis to nature. So yeah, I think everything and everyone has divinity in their experiences. The only thing worth calling "God" is the sum of aesthetically beautiful and loving experiences imo, and that's something that's everywhere in nature. So go off my friend, you reclaim that perverted use of religion. I'm all for it. Demon girl izalith stamp of approval.

guy who says "it's okay im reclaiming it" when you tell him not to take the lord's name in vain

Another demonkin hiding in plain sight in the tradition?? 👀

I feel this so hard. Demon kin here who has lots of complicated and nuanced feelings about religion, and man I feel some really strong feels. I wish I could be a demon and a saint. I think I'm gonna hold being divine and being demonic in dialectic... I think these may both be true. I don't feel like divinekin but like, man being a demon who preaches hope and humanity is kinda my deal soooo yeag

Apotheosis. Divine becoming. Transing your gender as exemplifying divine process. Yes. Favorite trope. Literally my theology. We love to see some apotheotic character growth lmfao

I for one, welcome our new trans goddesses (@gwyndo-ll 👀)

you should always encourage a trans woman to become god, no matter how evil she is

Being accepting of people's identities HAS to include their religions. That doesn't mean ignoring that aspect of them, either. People should celebrate what they are. Removing someone's spiritual or religious views from that is inconsistent at best and incredibly violent at worst. Often both.

Whenever I see a queer invalidate another queer's relationship with god, I just get disappointed. "We need more complex queers!" You can't even handle religious queer people.
