Ruby Sunday - Tumblr Posts

as a barista that shop looked lowk busy i would in fact be confused about why no one was collecting the drink

barista: oat milk cappuccino for Ruby

Ruby: That's me. I'm named after a road.

Ruby's mom: oh my god it's you. it's really you. I am so sorry I left you as a baby, but now you're here all these years later and oh my god you're my daughter.

Ruby: *sobbing*

Doctor who theory time kids.

So, as we know, Ruby's mother is an ordinary human. Nothing extraterrestrial or godly about her (unless we're being lied to, of course). But there's still so many questions unanswered, such as:

How come she can make it snow?

Why was Maestro so scared of her?

How did Ruby's DNA have no connection, whilst her mother was still living a normal life?

I present to you something so very simple that I have quite literally never seen talked about:

Who is Ruby Sunday's father?

I'm fairly certain that they just... Don't talk about him. Other than Kate mentioning his name and age, there's nothing. No photos, you don't see him, no real character or information about him. He could be literally anybody. They say right at the end of the last episode that they've found him, which opens up some intriguing possibilities. If we see him next series, which I suspect we might, is he going to be ordinary? Is he going to want anything to do with Ruby? Is he a regular human, or is he something else? Because everyone has been speculating on who her birth mother is, but pretty much all of those theories can be applied to her father. It's such a simple conclusion to make, but I haven't seen anything about it. That makes me think that there's something more that I've missed about who her father is, but I might not have so I'm posting this anyway.

Thanks for reading my rambling, if you did.

okay weird thing i noticed: in boom, when the doctor and ruby are singing, the subtitles - both the auto generated iplayer ones and the official bbc ones - write "Skye" as a name, rather than just "sky", as in, you know, the sky. does this hold any significance? fuck if i know. but it's interesting.

i feel like we do not address the fact that ruby straight up died in boom enough. like, that's a big, traumatic deal. did anyone even bother to like, tell her? bc as far as i understand the doctor never actually told her what happened while she was unconscious/dead, so does she just. not know.

Hot Take But Church On Ruby Road Was One Of The Best Episodes For Series 14/Season 1.

Hot take but Church On Ruby Road was one of the best episodes for Series 14/Season 1.

Funny, new aliens, solid writing, and good characterization for Ruby and The Doctor.

Who vs Why

Who Vs Why

Ruby kept focusing on 'who' and not 'why' in regard to her birth mother and it drove me wild.

Does the 'who' technically make sense for the overarching storyline? Yes! They clearly understood that this myth of Ruby's birth mother needed to up be built up both for the audience and for the characters.

BUT, that gets lost when they're constantly focused on who Ruby's birth mother was, especially towards the end. It's more interesting as to why she left her at the church on Christmas.

What was so special about Christmas? About that church? Why would a woman abandon a complete newborn?

If they had stuck specifically to why she was left that still would've played into the legend. Maybe Ruby kept making stories up when she was a child, that her birth mother had some secret mission and had to leave Ruby there or SOMETHING because that's what children do!

So to find out how normal her birth mother is, it's both confusion but also a slight relief because Ruby realizes that her birth mother was just a girl like her.

It makes that reveal with Louise at the end more impactful because let's be honest, they brushed over that so fast.

This also helps to align Ruby's story more with the Doctor. The Doctor wants to know why his parents left him on that planet. Yes, who is important, but why? Why there? Why then? That is so much more interesting and compelling.

Maybe the Doctor has started to make up stories in his own mind about who they are. They could've had such a wonderful scene where Ruby shares the little stories she's made up over the years.

Also, side note and I'm not going to get personal, but I do have other issues with the way Louise was presented as Ruby's "mother" and not "birth mother". I give RTD the benefit of the doubt as he did address that in commentary (though it wasn't the best response).

Ruby Sunday,

You are an enigma. And I’m sure where are so heading to the church on Ruby Road and creating a time paradox this season.

We are so back!

Also can I just say, when Ruby started singing when the Maestro held her up, I swear I thought it was the Bad Wolf theme. Should’ve seen me levitate off my couch and watch my heart thump out of my chest. I thought we were getting Bad Wolf seeing this moment ages ago and coming to the doctor’s rescue.

But it was something better and more well connected thematically to the season. Genius resolution this episode. I need to know more about Ruby Sunday! She’s such a fun companion and her past is so interesting.
