au where sliver doesn't actually ascend she just straight up almost died because of a void pipe rupture, she wakes up several hundred cycles after the incident to see that she collapsed, her systems automatically sent out a triple affirmative, and everyone thinks she's dead.
grahhh got a few ideas...
gonna do NSH and SRS later because my back hurts <//3 BUT HERE IS MOONIE.... I LOVE MOON.... she's so scrungly <3 .....
City au stuff
Basics
So city au is well.... city?? Basically a group of councils live in a city, NOT atop a structure.
Instead the city is more like our cities, except all around the city is a huge big wall protecting it from the outside wilderness. It's very rare for ancients to travel across cities, only the grand masters of cabinets do it really.
It's REALLY taboo for iterators to travel outside of the cities tho, the ancients thought that giving them the freedom of travel across cities would make them want to run off.
Speaking of iterators! off the string (I have mixed feelings about off the string, i believe that iterators aren't just their puppets, however I absolutely LOVE any off the string au)!!! the ancient lore is practically the same as in cannon except iterators: iterators will often accompany their admins to work, and will actively help with said work, they're like walking talking work calculators basically (example: iterator instructing the mechanic on how to fix the car) they are also sort of mascots for their council? not mascots actually??? but they are important to the council, they're sort of the representative of it along with their admins (usually high ranking council members) the high ranking council members all live in the council house (basically the white house), that's where the iterator is too! Then they go to work in the central council office, or the two secondary council offices for the low ranking councilmen, or the council labs! That's basically it!
Mass Ascension
When the ancients had mass ascension, they left their iterators at the cities since iterators cannot ascend the same way ancients can so now there's like a lot of half empty cities with iterators who are just trying to get by day to day life now.
not a ref, but a very simple concept for how sig may look!
FOAMING AT THE MOUTH!!!!!!!!!! MALWARE CREATOR GETS STABBED BY ANGRY MALWARE HUNTER!!!!! NOTHING MUCH HAPPENS AFTER THAT (HE SURVIVES)
VERY out of context RC au stuff
If the devs don't give UI some lore.... then I will ...
relationship chart:
pebbles:
UI dislikes him, hell they are basically one minor inconvenience away from hating him. he's slightly older than them, but despite being "such a brat" (UI is projecting onto him. pebbles is NOT a brat <///3), he is a lot more liked by the group than UI. neither do their views align, UI is an anti-sliverist, and pebbles is a sliverist. so basically UI is fighting pebbles for the title of the cooler third gen iterator of the group (everyone else in the group is either second gen or first gen)
moon:
UI likes moon, literally the only one who UI isn't mean around. and it's not because UI just wants to be on the good side of a senior, no, UI genuinely does think that moon is rather nice. a part of UI wishes that they were her younger sibling instead of pebbles. moon is sort of the only one who's nice to them… thus they need to repay moon by being nice back. UI tries their best to not accidentally push moon away.
grey wind:
never talked to them, sort of wary, but admire them nonetheless. neither did UI wanna talk to GW, i guess they feel too guilty, as if GW absolutely despises them for how they're unable to really keep much friendships without pushing everyone away after 100 cycles. this guilt clouds UI's eyes, making them wary of GW because they so thoroughly convinced themselves GW hates them.
no significant harassment:
rather neutral about NSH, tried to become friends with NSH but ended up pushing him away like they always do. nevertheless, they hold no good or bad opinions about NSH
suns:
UI doesn't know them, has no clue why they talk like they're a part of the group, and really doesn't like them because of this. UI is sort of distrustful of strangers, they definitely live by an extreme version of "you do not get my respect for free"
layout of the group, purely my hcs

hi hello (gives you this and runs off and trips and falls )
u should talk more about your UI thought i want to hear them i am intrigued
Oh yes absolutely! (note: this is all pre-spearmaster. I am currently in the process of writing out what'd happen in the campaign timelines) So first off: pre-ascension I think both UI's colony and UI's council were mostly made up of rich or religious people searching for job and business opportunities. Their council saw them as their pride and joy, definitely spoiled them a LOT. UI was also quite sheltered, not really being allowed to interact with fellow iterators, for a while the only "friends" they had were their council. Unfortunately spoiling your iterator, especially in the early stages of it's AI developing, is not a good way to teach it how to socialize with fellow iterators. Thus UI was often quite snooty pre-ascension, as well as very judgemental :( This of course didn't make them the most trustworthy iterator to have in a group, a lot of early lore (pre-ascension) relations with their group were... rough... to say the least! They had quite the habit to get into arguments! Well flash forward to after mass-ascension, UI's colony was one of the first to leave. (This gave them a resentment against Ascensionism, and by extension Sliver and the sliverists as well...) Yes UI had all these wills signed over to them, all these fancy and expensive items, but they had to learn the hard way that when they get lonely, they cannot throw all of the money and cool items at someone to make a friend. With loneliness and guilt at their past actions eating them from the inside out, UI decided to instead observe other fellow iterators to see what will help their loneliness. They had discovered that sharing something people would find interesting gives you attention, which is what they thought they needed to help their loneliness. Now where will they get interesting information? Group gossip of course! And so they began sharing some group gossip on the global broadcast network in hopes of gaining some attention... They certainly gained attention alright, not good attention, but attention nonetheless. They saw this as success. They thought that this is what friendship was, and surely now that thousands of eyes were on them, they surely had many many friends.. right? Well eventually they got bored of that too, you couldn't really talk to many people if they either distrusted you or just wanted to get gossip from you. They went to their group instead, and would mimic particularly NSH's behaviors or FP's behaviors in hopes of getting to be friends with them. While it annoyed Pebbles that UI was being such a copy cat, NSH found it endearing. UI and NSH had a friendship at first, until NSH became rather good friends with SRS... who UI did not like.. AT ALL. UI, thinking that NSH replaced them, went to go gossip about NSH and SRS on the broadcast network. NSH found out, was rather unhappy, and it soured the friendship, with UI soon losing contact with NSH. UI was rather confused, confused and guilty, they definitely did something wrong. LttM seemed like a good friend, so UI tried to get LttM's attention, they however failed because good ol' FP was in the way! Even pre-spearmaster, I do not think FP was doing all that good mentally, I think LttM was really busy trying to make sure that FP was alright. This is where UI's and FP's rivalry began. UI saw FP was an obstacle, FP saw UI as an annoying little brat. Thats sort of where it leaves off for now, the next bit would be spear master campaign! I am planning to post more about this au more in the future, so i can surely say that more lore would be coming soon!
Curious by what you mean when u say UI "learned the hard way," did they try to bribe someone specific into being their friend, or just in general? 👀
Sort of both? They knew their council would often use bribery as a way for other councils to obey them (despite their council having only 40 individuals! That is so so tiny for a council! Their council was very controversial even before building UI). So really they tried to send over a few expensive items to their other neighbor, Chasing/Grey Wind (I hc that CW/GW was an unapproved model for quite some time, and after a while of finally waiting to be approved, there was a slight mix-up in the documents that never really got fixed. Basically due a loophole, they now have two variations of their name), in hopes of managing to befriend them too. CW/GW had sent the items back to UI, stating that unfortunately they do not need it. UI has taken this as CW/GW rejecting the idea of friendship (despite that not being the case, CW/GW really just didn't have any use for fancy expensive ancient masks and jewelry, unlike UI who likes to collect fancy things), and has learned that you cannot gain friends just by throwing expensive stuff at them! UI still wants to be friends with CW/GW, they are just trying to stay low and not talk to CW/GW in fear that their plan to gain a friend might fail.... poor thang..
drew a scene from something i wrote months ago this was... TOUGH to draw the aforementioned writing from a few months ago is under the cut:
RB stands atop a communication array platform, his gaze is locked onto an echo [perhaps a way too familiar echo]. The echo has a crack across it's featureless face, the same crack that his administrator's mask possessed after the zap incident. For a while RB is left speechless, everything that happened in the past seemed to have hit him like a tidal wave, old wounds seemed to have been torn open again. The echo speaks "And here I remain, left to rot away just like you. It is now -after centuries upon centuries- that I realize how foolish I was, how cruel and ungrateful I was. To say that I desire to return back to my former flesh prison is an understatement. As much as I still want you dead, I can recognize that I myself was the one to blame for your condition. Continue on with your function, keep your hatred for me if it pleases you. But do not fall to wrath like I did. Do not let yourself be tied to it if you wish to escape." RB almost feels dizzy, in theory he knows he shouldn't. This is not his administrator anymore, this is most likely just a dream [or at least he hopes so], and a bad one at that. He wishes he didn't have the capacity to feel such a mix of emotions all at once. "Scram now." was the final words of the echo before the world around RB turned black. RB awoke in the shelter with a sudden jolt, his core beating at twice the usual speed and his hands shaking like they were about to fall off. He could barely remember his encounter now, chalking it up to a bad dream.
Hi. I saw ur iterators and they look cool i wanna know the lore(tm)
OOO YES YES! Imma ramble about off the string au too, so putting the explanation of the au before oc lore, if you want to hear just about the oc, feel free to skip the off the string hcs! (note: a lot of my oc lore is rather long, and hard to type out in one go, i will most likely be typing up about an oc with shorter lore)
So first; how does off-the-string work in my au/hcs:
The consciousness and subconsciousness are evenly spread out throughout all of the iterator's systems and mechanisms! Usually the puppet is just used for communication, and to express the iterator's personality. Without the puppet it would be rather difficult to communicate. Now you see: the puppet can be detached from it's mechanical arm, this is most often done in maintenance or during really fancy ceremonies. To go off the string, you need to put your whole consciousness into your puppet, and then detach it from the mechanical arm. The structure would still be up and performing vital functions, however would be in a "sleep" state. You can still vaguely feel your structure if you are off the string.
Although this sounds easy, it really isn't. Since the iterator as a whole is HUGE, they'd need some time to adapt to the limitations of the puppet. They are now on the same level as an ancient, or the animals that walk beneath their structure, which can be rather difficult to adjust to if you're used to being a mechanical god. (think of it like putting all your consciousness into the tip of your finger, you're so so much smaller and vulnerable now) Note: the iterator is also now hyper-aware of their puppet since all of their consciousness, and thus attention, is in their puppet (instead of being spread out like in the structure). (Also another small note I am unsure of where to put: in my hcs, the iterators sort of have a connection to their neurons similar to bluetooth, which means that if the structure is still standing, they do not need to take their neurons along while going off the string, as they'd already have that long distance connection to the neurons) If a disconnection is done right, it is 100% reversible! Just attach the puppet back to it's mechanical arm, and everything would be just like before the iterator detached it's puppet. However if an iterator disconnected improperly, it will be rather difficult to spread their consciousness back through their structure. Also if you die off the string, your consciousness will simply go back to your structure, and you'd need to make yourself a new puppet.
As for why an iterator would need to go off the string:
Many many reasons, some iterators are just curious, others want to see if they can ascend (any void related death will cause ascension for ancients and biological organisms. Several iterators have tried to test if they'd ascend by losing their puppet to the void sea.), and some have been falsely advertised to. Not too long after Sliver's ascension, there was an event labeled the "Disconnection Obsession", where iterators would go off the string to test the aforementioned theory. However there was also a rise of false advertising, with off the string being painted as a vacation or a new solution, and of course you'd want a vacation after some real boring work. Unfortunately off the string is far from a vacation...
Onto OC lore:
I'll be talking about CV! As it's lore is currently one of the only things thats on my mind, and that I can coherently tell through one ramble. Following the disconnection obsession event, CV had gone off the string to test out if the theory of losing your puppet to the void sea will ascend an iterator (probably not be at least CV is being hopeful). Or well, it more so thought it needed to test out this theory. Unfortunately CV was brainwashed by it's council to have the extremist ascensionist views of the world. Deep down it never really had any interest in ascension, it had more interest in archiving religious history to be honest. So CV went off the string with it's neighbors (Visions of Issues Unforeseen, Grim Speculations), and originally it planned to go to the void sea, but overtime it wanted to stay with it's neighbors more (who it became rather good friends with). I nicknamed the trio "The half-group", since originally they were a separate group from DAWNS_ABOUND, before the two groups merged for political allyship back when the ancients were around. Putting this map here as well! The two collapsed iterators near the half-group are early prototypes, who collapsed even before GS (oldest of the half-group, the second model of gen 2 ever made) was built. Early prototypes never really have a long lifespan unfortunately.
Thats about it for now!

honk mimimi The reason pebbles has to carry the slag keys to moon only lets UI stick around because he can't survive alone. only sticking around because they wanna help moon & also they're very lonely enemies to "it's better not to argue while being chased by hungry vultures"
UI my favorite iterator............ i need more UI lore watcher dlc better get me more UI lore or else i am calling up video cult themselves and asking them about if they got any UI lore (JOKING-)
