thinking about how UI gets the rot in Rotten Core AU (which i will probably have to shorten to RC AU when typing since its easier to type) UI is often seen in anti-sliverist groups, they aren't an anti-sliverist themselves, let alone care enough about SoS and how she ascended. the reason they're in multiple anti-sliverist groups is simply because they're bored and starting arguments is fun for them (omg they're such a menace.....) well one time they saw two iterators exchanging a theory document with each other, UI being the nosy bastard decides to secretly intercept the exchange and take a look at what the file contains. it wasn't too interesting, just some theory, not bad enough that its funny but not good enough that its interesting. however they didn't know this file contained malware. they discovered the malware when they lost access to half of their systems. they managed to get rid of the malware yes... but the way they got rid of malware was INCREDIBLY risky, especially when no access to half of your systems. they got rid of the malware, but basically accidentally gave themselves the rot oh the poor bingus..... little thing absolutely panics!!! they do NOT want anyone to know about this! they do NOT want to be pittied and coddled but they also have no clue what to do!!! (kicking this poor bingus with angst rn)

oh hello!!!! i am glad you asked!!! :D the ancient who is on a police chase is Reflections in Last Fracture, Speaks of Mirrors (or bob. stands for big ol' bastard, his iterator gave him this nickname before the...rot incident) Reflections in Last Fracture, Speaks of Mirrors was a part of a council working on an iterator (around early to mid gen 1) that can withstand the rot, this iterator wasn't the final model but was the first prototype however Reflections in Last Fracture, Speaks of Mirrors needed a approval from the rest of the council (especially since his council didn't live atop his iterator as his iterator had no city. regulations and checks need to be done for there to be a chance that the city would be built), he wasn't the best to his iterator :( this has caused the iterator to act distrusting and not cooperative (note: Reflections in Last Fracture, Speaks of Mirrors lived in another iterator city, so therefore his council was merged with the other council) even worse thing that happened is that during one of the checks, Reflections in Last Fracture, Speaks of Mirrors decided that it would be time to initiate the first bit of his plan (give his iterator a bit of rot, install it into the primary core container. its similar to a core except it contains rot, in theory the rot should not spread, and the iterator will suffer minimal consequences, if not no consequences at all). this was an utter FAILURE. not sure what happened next but basically the iterator ALMOST got killed by his stupid business decision, he got a little (a lot) mad at his iterator (RB. short for Rotting Balance), may have yelled at him, and promptly got zapped by a less harmful version of the brain zap pebbles gives you if you stay in his chamber for too long all in front of the other council people. consequences for this is that the iterator had a few new code add-ons installed onto his code. if he is disrespectful or otherwise unkind to any ancient in any way (can range from not cooperating and all the way to zapping an ancient again), he'll get 25% of his water supply taken away, and RB CANNOT be bellow 75% water supply or else he will not be able to keep the rot somewhat under control. consequences for Reflections in Last Fracture, Speaks of Mirrors is that he loses his place in the council, and gets all his permits on working on iterators taken away he wasn't happy that cycle he and the council had a REAL BAD argument, not sure what happened here either but it escalated to him threatening the other ancient with a dagger, he realized what he had done so he ran before the police could be called, threatening a maintenance worker to get the pin to the maintenance staff elevator in the superstructure's leg, then hopped onto the first train car carrying supplies over to an iterator across the mountain range the police did caught up to him eventually when they did, he ran to the nearest void fluid mine and jumped into the void he is now an echo.
so like!!!! i got an idea!!! there are probably iterators made to make malware, either for data scraping or straight up taking out any "political competition" for their ancients. well WHAT IF THERE ARE MALWARE HUNTER ITERATORS?!?!? made to track the malware back to the iterator it was created by, and send em a protocol that deletes the code that lets them create malware in the first place. HOWEVER, this proves to not be as effective, as an iterator can relearn how to create malware. there are no more taboos now that the ancients are gone, no more laws, and no more stupid little rules the iterators have to go by. so what if like malware hunters made a total system shutdown protocol (deletion of all code for the iterator, basically kills em rather quickly) (can't relearn how to make malware if you're dead) to combat this, malware creators made another protocol that tracks down malware hunters, and basically also deletes all of their code (cannot delete someone's code if you're dead) smh karma 1 behavior
awwwwww no need to apologize!!!! it is ok!!!! i haven't thought about that yet! hmmm perhaps there might be taboos that are easier to overwrite than others??? :0 if you got any ideas please do send an ask!!! i would love to hear your ideas! oooo another small idea! it is illegal to code an iterator without these taboos, however perhaps you can clutter the code so much that when theres a regular code check up being done, nothing would seem too out of the ordinary apart from how cluttered the code is then there'd be laws made against that too and then someone definitely is gonna find another way to still keep their malware iterator, and then it basically devolves into chaos until the ancients don't bother to do anything about it since they're all going to ascend in 5 cycles anyways

OH OH YOU REMINDED ME OF SOMETHING I THINK I THINK UI IS LIKE A MIX OF CRINGEFAIL AND MENACE??!?! like she's really nosy and hyper and very damn mischievous but they also miss their ancients and hold themselves up to REALLY high standards that she simply cannot achieve and it frustrates her to hell (or shall we say rubicon?) and back when even the most simplest of simulations or calculations fails!!!!! like to the point where they have pulled on a wire out of frustration a bit too hard and basically tore it and realized what they had done and just stood there in her chamber like ":(" holding the torn wire đđđđđ it got fixed dw! but they had quite a habit of doing that out of frustration. however they do get help from GW in this au as well, sometime around/between post-rot and pre-rot if i remember correctly????? haven't written out much of this au as it is still a heavy wip idk if this needs a content warning?? is it too dark or is it fine??? :0 so here is a bit of angst!!!!! do keep in mind that due to this au being a wip, the heavy angsty moments might change a few times !!!!!!!
idea: they do somewhat what they do in canon, but instead of being a batch they just start panicking in the global chats and all the gossip about it has the exact effect on them thar it had on pebbles
or alternate: pebbles ditches on her in the group chats instead. complete role reversal!
oooooo!!!! hmmm for the first one !!! oh i like the first one!!!! i will most likely use that idea or something similar!!! (rewrite it just a tiny bit to fit into the au, like just explain what happened prior and how it happened, it won't get changed too much if it is even changed at all!) perhaps UI attempts to ask for guidance but due to their panicked state they aren't exactly too rational at the moment and they're just an aheem heem whimper of a mess !!! although how would the information get spread around as a rumor in the first place? would UI themselves be responsible for accidentally spreading it? or did someone else spread the information of UI getting the rot? and if so then how would that happen? :0 as for the second idea, pebbles and UI are on somewhat good terms (although UI does annoy the hell outa pebbles), so something would have to happen for pebbles to act like this (especially since i am mainly keeping his character unchanged and very close to how cannon pebbles acts, so not sure if it will be too in character!) AAAA seriously thank you for the ideas tho!!!!!

Alrighty so attempting to write an outline for RC au now, hopefully it doesnât sound too sleeby deeby cringefail *note: this is the general outline, it doesnât include any small misc lore details, however misc small lore details will be provided if i am asked about it/ will be necessary for later contextualization of other lore. intro/general notes: -so this au basically started as a question of âwhat if UI got the rot instead of pebblesâ -i am mainly focusing on UI and GW (and trying to come up with lore for these sillies), the rest of the iterators will mainly not change much and will stick to the cannon pre-SpearMaster campaign lore (basically keep the triple affirmative events and related characters mainly the same as cannon, this includes the local group too as to some extent they are involved with trying to research what happened to SoS and how she ascended) -as mentioned in previous note; this au takes place before SpearMasterâs campaign. -a lot of this au is me trying to make lore for UI (and GW too, but mainly UI), so i am not exactly sure if it is close to the tiny hint of cannon lore we see for UI, however if there will be more updates about UIâs cannon lore, then i will rewrite some parts of this au. -also misc note that i do not know where to put anywhere else. I guess in the beginning of the auâs storyline, UI is on good terms with the local group, however does really annoy their local group sometimes. -oh!!! The triple affirmative had JUST been broadcasted, only about 100-500 cycles ago! (also misc note that i do not know where to put)
storyline: -So this kind of begins with UI trying to find something to do, theyâre VERY bored, especially now that everyone has basically abandoned all work to go theorize about SoSâs triple affirmative. Honestly theyâre not too interested in the triple affirmative themselves, however they do like to find âso bad its funnyâ theories, best place to go for these is anti-sliverist groups. -Basically off they went being a nosy little prick, saw two iterators exchanging a theory document, secretly intercepted the exchange to check what this document had. Honestly it wasnât so bad its funny, but it also wasnât good either. They just went back to work. -Well guess who realized that they had lost access to A THIRD OF THEIR SYSTEMS (of course it was UI smh shouldnât have been nosy!), after more inspecting they realize it is malware, not the harmful type but probably annoying to deal with. -And annoying to deal with. They had tried multiple ways to get rid of the malware but none of them worked, they resorted to attempting to rewrite the genomes of their neurons to forcefully kick the malware out of their systems, this is a pretty risky way of getting rid of malware (especially since rewriting or editing genomes is taboo, so youâd have to find a way to bypass the restriction in the code to be able to do this. One wrong move and youâre probably not gonna be doing so good) -Did they get rid of the malware? Yes! Did they also create another new problem for themselves? Also yes! They created the rot :( -They panic for a bit, try to get the rot off but fail miserably. Around this time GW gets rather concerned for UI and tries to ask them if theyâre doing alright, however get no answer back. Some others from the local group also try to see what happened to UI, pebbles being their closest neighbor tries to send his overseers to their can after also trying to contact them and failing. He didnât think it was this bad at first, sometimes UI just pulled silly pranks on the group so he assumed this was another prank gone wrong, however he discovers that they have the rot after sending overseers to their can. He is met with the option of keeping quiet about it (probably what he wouldâve wanted too if he was in their situation), or tell the local group to at least get them to stop being so worried (little does he know if he tells the local group the panic will only get worse). -Well uhm!!!! THIS IS REALLY NOT GOOD FOR UI!!!!! THEY HAVE NOTICED PEBBLESâ OVERSEER AT THEIR CAN, AND DESPITE DESTROYING IT, IT DOESNâT ERASE THE FACT THAT HE NOW KNOWS ABOUT THIS TOO. they frantically contact him, asking him not to share this with the rest of the local group so as to not get them even more worried. Pebbles agrees to keeping quiet AS LONG as it doesnât get worse, however if it does get worse then he will have to do something to help them (as much as they both dislike this. UI doesnât want the local group knowing (especially GW) about their condition, and pebbles doesnât wish to put up with UIâs shenanigans since they can get real annoying sometimes) -So far this is where the story leaves off, i will be giving updates about this au once i come up with more lore! So so sorry if this is hard to read or written badly, it is almost midnight! Do please tell me if I made some mistakes here so I can go back and fix them!
Thinking of what (maybe) happened to SoS
important note: i do not know the full lore, i may have missed some things here and there so please do correct me if this is entirely false! anyways: i wonder what exactly happened when SoS ascended? like did she just """"die""""" (by that i mean puppet lying on the floor, no systems or machinery working, no nuerons and no more overseers either. just dead. not collapsed, but still dead), did her puppet disappear ?? (highly unlikely tho) or wait or what if like, when she ascended; if you were to send your overseers to her can you'd probably see it completely hollowed out, like no core, no neuron flies, no inspectors, half of the machinery is missing and her puppet is lifelessly lying on the ground, there is no longer that "alive" look in her eyes, rather its as if her puppet got hollowed out too, literally nothing behind those eyes almost everything is gone but the structure still stands, not working, nothing in it, just a shell of what once was. but it still stands no clue how this happened either because there is no sign of damage! there is no sign that someone did something to make this happen, its as if it was always like this, as if everything just disappeared! maybe ascension isn't so good. or maybe i have no clue of what lore XD

Oh yes absolutely! (note: this is all pre-spearmaster. I am currently in the process of writing out what'd happen in the campaign timelines) So first off: pre-ascension I think both UI's colony and UI's council were mostly made up of rich or religious people searching for job and business opportunities. Their council saw them as their pride and joy, definitely spoiled them a LOT. UI was also quite sheltered, not really being allowed to interact with fellow iterators, for a while the only "friends" they had were their council. Unfortunately spoiling your iterator, especially in the early stages of it's AI developing, is not a good way to teach it how to socialize with fellow iterators. Thus UI was often quite snooty pre-ascension, as well as very judgemental :( This of course didn't make them the most trustworthy iterator to have in a group, a lot of early lore (pre-ascension) relations with their group were... rough... to say the least! They had quite the habit to get into arguments! Well flash forward to after mass-ascension, UI's colony was one of the first to leave. (This gave them a resentment against Ascensionism, and by extension Sliver and the sliverists as well...) Yes UI had all these wills signed over to them, all these fancy and expensive items, but they had to learn the hard way that when they get lonely, they cannot throw all of the money and cool items at someone to make a friend. With loneliness and guilt at their past actions eating them from the inside out, UI decided to instead observe other fellow iterators to see what will help their loneliness. They had discovered that sharing something people would find interesting gives you attention, which is what they thought they needed to help their loneliness. Now where will they get interesting information? Group gossip of course! And so they began sharing some group gossip on the global broadcast network in hopes of gaining some attention... They certainly gained attention alright, not good attention, but attention nonetheless. They saw this as success. They thought that this is what friendship was, and surely now that thousands of eyes were on them, they surely had many many friends.. right? Well eventually they got bored of that too, you couldn't really talk to many people if they either distrusted you or just wanted to get gossip from you. They went to their group instead, and would mimic particularly NSH's behaviors or FP's behaviors in hopes of getting to be friends with them. While it annoyed Pebbles that UI was being such a copy cat, NSH found it endearing. UI and NSH had a friendship at first, until NSH became rather good friends with SRS... who UI did not like.. AT ALL. UI, thinking that NSH replaced them, went to go gossip about NSH and SRS on the broadcast network. NSH found out, was rather unhappy, and it soured the friendship, with UI soon losing contact with NSH. UI was rather confused, confused and guilty, they definitely did something wrong. LttM seemed like a good friend, so UI tried to get LttM's attention, they however failed because good ol' FP was in the way! Even pre-spearmaster, I do not think FP was doing all that good mentally, I think LttM was really busy trying to make sure that FP was alright. This is where UI's and FP's rivalry began. UI saw FP was an obstacle, FP saw UI as an annoying little brat. Thats sort of where it leaves off for now, the next bit would be spear master campaign! I am planning to post more about this au more in the future, so i can surely say that more lore would be coming soon!
