Seriously. Like the treatment of Ann Coulter - I’ve heard people calling her a man, or calling her an ugly woman. Or talking about Kim Davis, that county clerk who refused to issue marriage licenses, ripping apart her appearance as if it were a clue to her moral character. Stop.
I just went to a presentation on implicit personality theories and learned that our perceptions of others’ attractiveness are a central personality trait that we attribute to them, and there are lots of sub-traits that we implicitly associate with attractiveness. So it makes sense that we would use insults of people’s looks to imply that they’re not good or trustworthy in other ways. We just need to be aware that this is a shitty thing to do and resist it.
It’s like weird that I have to say this but insulting someone’s appearance isn’t a substitute for an argument and is basically always going to involve some fucked up shit so like
It’s unnecessary and immature and yeah it’s problematic and stop fucking doing it
Has anybody mentioned that Sherlock and Mycroft actually ARE looking into a mirror in the background?!?!?! You can see Mycroft's reflection move a bit as he shifts! I'm dying!

he is not ok either

Social anxiety is not necessarily having huge panic attacks when you’re in a crowd.
It is, a lot of the time, little things that are usually easy just being complete hell on earth, like:
Crying just thinking about having to give a presentation in class
Not playing games or participating in fun activities (even with your friends) because you’re afraid you’ll be terrible at it and people will judge you
Having to rehearse your order at the restaurant a hundred times
And counting your money 10 times to make sure you have enough (even though you have plenty)
Being overly concerned about the way you look because you think people are judging you
Feeling anxious every time someone laughs because they’re definitely laughing at you oh god
Getting nervous about coming late to school because you’ll have to get in class and everyone will look at you
Crying a little when someone says you’re wrong or screams at you (especially in front of other people)
Not knowing what to talk about even with friends that have a lot of things in common with you
Feeling uncomfortable being in the front row in class or at the cinema because you think everyone is staring at you
Thinking and rehearsing for 5 minutes the simple things you’ll have to say in class (like “here” or “yes, I did my homework”)
Being afraid that the teacher will ask you something in class
Being embarrassed of something you did or said literally months ago (that probably wasn’t so bad)
Pushing people away when they show any type of interest because they’re definitely making fun of you and actually hate you
Going out of your way to avoid someone in public because you actually cannot talk to them
Biting you tongue or lips or clenching your fists or digging your nails into you leg when you’re embarrassed
Being scared of being alone with only 1 person because you don’t know what to do or say
Constantly hating yourself because you can’t do easy things like having a small conversation

For people who still don’t see anything wrong with cultural appropriation, who still call cornrows “boxer braids”, “Kim K braids” or whatever - our cornrows symbolize liberation and freedom, it’s not your trendy hairstyle, it actually does have a history.
Since slaves were never taught to write and drawing directions was dangerous, because they could lead to them being discovered, captured, sold again or even killed by their master.
To reduce the risk of being discovered, women started weaving the maps in their hair, carving out paths with their cornrows. Some of the patterns even had hidden messages!
Yes, braiding existed in Africa way before, but it got a whole new meaning when Europeans enslaved millions of people. So next time you decide to go for a “Kim K look”, do a little research before you end up disrespecting someone’s culture and just, in all honesty, looking silly.

Privatized Police Made Legal in the United States
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/09/17/1422235/-Missouri-R-s-Use-Override-Session-to-Allow-Companies-to-Act-as-Private-Police-Forces
I want people to read this URL and understand that this is the first recognizable seed of actual corporate fascism in the United States. It’s happening in Missouri, no less.
We’re looking at a best case scenario of multiple police units from all backgrounds and races (and hate groups) competing with one another or outright killing each other, with little planned restrictions whatsoever.
I think that the message of the thing is what really sinks in, that a thing that absolutely nobody would ever consider to have a prayer of being a positive change would even be considered, let alone approved. This is a clear move by the for-profit prison system.
It is a matter of time before we are all indentured servants by corporate forces and the allied national guard.
they’ll shoot a black kid with a toy gun dead in 2 seconds but will negotiate with a fully armed militia and a family that believes that blacks were better off as slaves in full faith

"The Democratic Party is a master of reformist performance. They claim to care about the plight of black bodies and offer half measures that serve to placate black voters. Yet they are beholden to multi-national corporations and are incapable of introducing and implementing radical policies that will fundamentally reshape the anti-black construction of this nation. The Democratic establishment will never call for the abolition of law enforcement or economic reparations for black bodies; instead they’ll call for police-worn body cameras and (maybe) “independent” oversight.“
Question: I fully agree that ACAB, but I've always wondered what police forces should be replaced with, seeing as how organizations like the KKK and all these racist militias like the Minutemen (and of course, Zimmerman) are technically private citizens.
That is an excellent question, Anonymous! While most of us take their existence for granted, the truth is that the concept of having a police force is fairly modern, dating back to the early 19th century. Prior to that, many societies relied on full-community participation to ensure that its members behaved themselves. Neighbours helped each other. Some societies formalized this concept somewhat. Medieval England used something called the “frankpledge system,” wherein all males over the age of 12 would form small groups of ten, all of whom swore an oath to capture and detain members of their own clans who committed a crime. This was eventually replaced by a constabulary system where all males would serve as constables for one year, keeping watch on their community. If something was amiss, they could sound the alarm and all males in the community would come to their aid. It wasn’t until the population explosion that accompanied the Industrial Revolution that we began to see what we would recognize as modern police forces. There are examples of similar systems existing even today. In the Spanish village of Marinaleda (pop. 3,000) there are no police. When their last police officer retired, the village didn’t replace him, instead choosing to focus its resources on ensuring its citizens’ needs are taken care of and coming together as a community when problems arise instead of calling the police. Remarkably, crime is nearly nonexistent there. There’s also this article outlining six ways to reduce, if not eliminate, our reliance on police. Bolstering mental health resources, decriminalizing non-violent offences (especially drug offences), deploying unarmed mediation/intervention teams, and other ideas would greatly reduce and possibly eliminate our reliance on armed police. If any of these ideas - or a combination of them - resulted in even a 1% drop in the incarceration rate in America, 20,000 fewer people would be in prison and $800 million in tax funds could be spent on better things.
or you could, you know, try not having police
