Police Brutality - Tumblr Posts

the whole "acab includes fandom cops"/"kill the cop in ur head" etc thing really just reminds me of 12 year olds who thinks punk is when youre rude to your teachers and write swear words on bathroom stalls without actually understanding the roots or culture behind punk communities. it. like it's so disconnected from the actual reality of why cops are bad (systemic and interpersonal abuses of power, widespread normalized and celebrated violence specifically against people of color and other vulnerable minorities, a focus on punitive justice that is generally unhelpful at best and actively worsens problems and ruins lives at worst, etc etc) and instead implies cops are bad because they tell you what to do. which is really not the main problem with cops

I don't think you can call cops extreme if the majority of em are like that, it's just baseline. It's insane that we've let this behavior be normalized.

Calls for Justice for Aurora’s Violinist Elijah McClain Grow

Elijah McClain was a kind and gentle 23 year old who worked as a massage therapist in Aurora, CO. On his lunch breaks from work, Elijah would go to the animal shelters and play violin for the animals because he thought that they were lonely in their cages and thought that the music would calm them.

In August 2019, Elijah went to the gas station to buy some iced tea for himself and his cousins. Because he suffered from anemia he would often wear a ski/ runner mask over his face to stay warm. On his way home, the Aurora Police department were called to reports of a “suspicious man.”

(Warning: for violent description) Elijah was apprehended by a group of three cops, despite committing NO crime and being unarmed. A struggle occurred, and he was held in a very dangerous carotid hold around his neck while he cried for help, cried out that he couldn’t breathe, cried out that he was nonviolent and couldn’t even kill a fly, and was repeatedly throwing up. Elijah weighed a mere 140 pounds. You can hear on the audio footage, an officer instructing another to move their body camera out of view.

While 3 Aurora Police Dept officers violently restrained him they called Aurora Fire Dept, who injected him with ketamine (a powerful drug used to tranquilize horses or in surgeries by a trained anesthesiologist and illegal to be administered by anyone else) even though he was already cuffed and calm.

He went into cardiac arrest , slipped into a coma, and his family was advised to take him off life support 6 days later.

The cops were transferred to another department but never received charges.

7.26.20, Seattle

Local Seattle police begin a random attack on a group on protestors, including macing someone excessively while they’re already on the ground. Notice how they’re covering their badges. These aren’t “trump’s” feds, these are local police.

If y’all are really about Black Lives Matter, support me. My name is Bella and I am a Black queer activist who has been doing social media protests for two months. They need more attention. These are some resources and information. Next Saturday I am hosting a social media protest to help Black people struggling with money for: HRT, top surgery, medical bills, food, rent, housing, and more.

If Yall Are Really About Black Lives Matter, Support Me. My Name Is Bella And I Am A Black Queer Activist
If Yall Are Really About Black Lives Matter, Support Me. My Name Is Bella And I Am A Black Queer Activist

Jacob Blake is more than just “A Black man shot 7 times” he is more than a statistic, more than a number, more than a victim of police brutality. He is a father of beautiful children and we need to have more empathy while speaking about this, his babies had to WITNESS THIS. Black trauma continues to be brushed under the rug and everybody continues to try to make us try to justify it. While I am grateful to hear he is okay, that doesn’t mean I’m not angry. Don’t stop demanding for justice! BLACK LIVES STILL MATTER! Protests have been happening for THREE MONTHS NOW. But there are plenty of victims of police brutality who don’t get to say they survived. I truly hope the officers involved get charged for attempted murder.

If Yall Are Really About Black Lives Matter, Support Me. My Name Is Bella And I Am A Black Queer Activist

Please reblog this, this is a very important signal boost!

An investigation is ongoing in the case of a 9 year old Rochester girl who was pepper sprayed during a mental health episode. Police were called on Friday afternoon after a report that the girl was threatening to harm herself and her mother. The girl resisted being put into a police car to be taken to the hospital, kicking one of the officers. She is seen screaming in bodycam footage before her head is held down against the snow-covered ground and is handcuffed. One of the three officers involved told her she was, “acting like a child,” to which she responded, “I am a child!”

“Later in the video, a female officer is seen talking to the girl, eventually saying, “This is your last chance, otherwise pepper spray’s going in your eyeballs.” About a minute later, another officer can be heard saying, “Just spray her at this point.” The female officer is seen shaking a can that appears to be pepper spray and the child continues to scream.” Officers then pepper sprayed her and left her crying in the back seat as they took her to Rochester General Hospital and soon released.

How do we reform a group of supposed public servants who seem nearly immune to consequences? This isn’t how you treat anyone experiencing a mental health emergency, and especially not a nine year old child. How will this little girl grow up in a world where the people who are supposed to protect her are violent towards her when she needs help?

The Iranian protesters being called Islamophobic is like when black people of America stand up for themselves and are called anti-white. Not all Muslims in Iran are against freedom and many of them are actually standing with the protesters the way not all white people in America are white. but the protest is against those who are using their religion as a tool to shut others down and beat them into submission.

The people of Iran shouldn’t have to be Muslims and abide by Islamic rules to alive.

There is also the fact that not all Muslim believe and abide by all the rules. Not all Muslim women wear hijabs so if this was really about Islam, those people would be safe, which is absolutely not the case. Religion is a very personal thing, and should not be forced upon people.

Hijab may be a sign of religious freedom in the west but in Iran, for most people Hijab has become a uniform of oppression.

Many people are warping what these protests that are now happening in Iran stand for. Just know that the real reason they are happening is because the police of Iran Brutality murdered a 22 year old girl who was wearing the most normal version of the hijab that Iranian women wear.

"The Personal, As Everyones So Fucking Fond Of Saying, Is Political. So If Some Idiot Politician, Some

"The personal, as everyone’s so fucking fond of saying, is political. So if some idiot politician, some power player, tries to execute policies that harm you or those you care about, take it personally. Get angry. The Machinery of Justice will not serve you here – it is slow and cold, and it is theirs, hardware and soft-. Only the little people suffer at the hands of Justice; the creatures of power slide from under it with a wink and a grin. If you want justice, you will have to claw it from them. Make it personal. Do as much damage as you can. Get your message across. That way, you stand a better chance of being taken seriously next time. Of being considered dangerous. And make no mistake about this: being taken seriously, being considered dangerous marks the difference - the only difference in their eyes - between players and little people. Players they will make deals with. Little people they liquidate. And time and again they cream your liquidation, your displacement, your torture and brutal execution with the ultimate insult that it’s just business, it’s politics, it’s the way of the world, it’s a tough life and that it’s nothing personal. Well, fuck them. Make it personal."

If you're not aware, Nigerian youth have been protesting against police brutality. The #EndSARS movement is a movement whose goal is to end the "Special Anti Robbery Squad," a police squad that extort, harass, attack, and kill innocent Nigerians. They target people based on their clothes, possessions, and perceived sexuality. Tuesday, October 20th Nigerian forces in Lagos opened fire at protestors, killing at least 78 people and injuring countless more. (cnn article linked)

If you're not in Nigeria, what you can is educate yourself on the #EndSARS movement. Many Nigerians are sharing their experiences over social media because of the lack of coverage by western media. Listen to them and amplify their voices.

If you can afford to do so, you can also donate directly to Nigerian grassroots organizations in this gofundme. Even if you can't, I encourage you to read through the entire gofundme as it gives resources to educate yourselves. I'll link more articles on this movement as well
