Organize your time if it's not a distraction. Planners are meant to help you and get work done, not procrastinate by planning.

Get all the jitters out before studying, addressing all of your concerns so you enter with a clear, determined mind.

Eliminate distractions when possible, or filter out the distractions with music!

Create mini-goals to make the daunting tasks more simple and less scary to complete.

Step away if you get too frustrated with a concept or don't understand it. Come back to it when you have energy and tolerance.

Know how to balance your hobbies with your responsibilities, allowing you to avoid burnout for much longer.

If studying a weak point, remind yourself it's okay, and no matter the outcome, you're going to go down with the ship trying and fighting.

Be realistic and optimistic. Don't procrastinate too much when you think you have more time than necessary.

If you are doing last-minute studying, acknowledge the possibility that you might not do as well, but don't lose hope as any amount of studying always counts!

Create one big goal to help motivate you for your little goals. My grand goal is to one day earn a PhD.

How to Study History & Why I Love It

How to Study History (my way):

First, understand the cold facts - such as dates and context - what’s going on and why?

Imagine history as a roadmap you are creating in your mind as you study events and movements.

Try to imagine historical events as a drama. That way it’s easier to digest as a subject

Understanding context and why is the foundation of writing an argument, creating a comparison, seeing what changed and what didn’t, and allowing you to connect and feel history more deeply.

Truly be invested in how historical events have helped shape the world and the innovations around us.

Why I Love History as a Subject:

History allowed me to become more eloquent in speech and writing by allowing me to take rigorous humanities based classes.

If the teacher is interesting, it becomes a great class discussion with emphasis and thought-provoking ideas and arguments.

It has helped me see both the beauty of the human mind and the horrors of humanity.

It gives me hope that though change is slow (and sometimes unlikely), a better world and future is possible if we work together.

It has given me confidence as a student to achieve great things while thinking of each and every consequence an action may have.

learning calculus (one) is easier in university than in high school tbh. there's more support and office hours to help you out. but the practice problems are so much more complex to implement. But at least I'm not forced to teach myself like in high school. I'm slowly getting more confident in math o(^o^)o

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)

I've watched this film for the first time the other day and I loved it! It had romance, action, and horrors that made one think what is really to be human.

I need more 1950's movie recommendations right now. This film had me feeling so many emotions like: ❤️😸😿.

Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (1956)

I watched the film during lab and I learned a couple of things like:

French critics were the ones to originally name these types of movies as the 'Film Noir' genre. Before that, it was simply known as a horror/thriller.

And French critics took B-level films and made them really popular since they didn't have prior access to them due to WWII occupation.

Day for Night scenes: night scenes that were filmed during the day. It was also called American Night, or what the French critics would call it 'La Nuit Américaine'.

Dutch Angle (mistranslated from German Angle): the technique where you tilt the camera angle in a scene; I believe it's 15 degrees.

Spoiler Warning:

I was so upset Becky got lost to the pod people. I wanted her to end up with Dr.Bennell so badly, I genuinely thought it was going to be a 1950's love story trope.

Even though this story had an ambiguous ending, which usually I'm not a fan of, but it was executed very well where I was satisfied that the problem is bigger than what can be captured in one film. So overall, great movie.

I need to watch more films since I'm so uncultured lol.

What are your goals for the next 30 days?

My goals for the next 30 days are:

Study and prepare for my first C++ on paper midterm

Study and prepare for my calculus unit 1 midterm retake

Create a better, more bite sized study schedule

Catch up on readings (because I'm behind) and get into the habit of being consistently punctual with readings

Get better at close reading techniques and submit all academic papers after a good amount of revision

What Are Your Goals For The Next 30 Days?

when the code works perfectly by the compiler, but the test fails for some reason. and you spend your time trying to figure it out only to realize that if you placed it earlier into the code, it passes both the compiler and the test. Coding makes me so dramatic and frustrated, but I love figuring out the answers at the same time ◉_◉

What is your favorite music to study to?

My favorite music to study to depends on what my mood is. If I'm doing alright, I'll listen to something deeper like chemtrails over the country club, evermore, folklore: the long pond studio sessions, or red tv.

If I'm anxious about my studies I usually listen to happier or upbeat music like: lover, 1989 tv, speak now tv, honeymoon, lust for life, born to die, midnights, or even electronic music like keep up by odetori lol.

What Is Your Favorite Music To Study To?

But, if I'm really frustrated with math or coding, I do it in silence to really focus. If I have any music on when I'm frustrated it irritates me so much lol.

motivating myself to write my paper about fungi by talking about fungi:

in Tokyo in 2010, scientists wanted to test the limits of 'brainless' organisms, especially their decision making skills, so they made a little obstacle course in a Petri dish and sent a slime mold to navigate it. they set it up with light and oats, the oats acting as goals and the lights acting as deterrents. the oats were placed in such a way that represented the major train stations in Tokyo. in LESS THAN TWO DAYS, the slime mold had perfectly navigated the obstacle course and hit all the oat stations. when the scientists compared the Petri dish patterns to the city, they noticed that the slime mold had perfectly replicated the train lines of Tokyo. in the most efficient way possible. a task which took humans FIVE YEARS to plan, design and build. slime molds do not have nervous systems, brains, or (as it was previously believed) the ability to form complex thoughts. however, these molds were able to design this system quicker and more efficiently than humans ver have. they were even able to create a path for the shortest route through an IKEA.

the whole concept that organisms other than humans are unable to make decisions or solve complex problems is incredibly outdated and should have been disproven years ago when the Great Chain of Being was first challenged, but these ideas have stuck around for hundreds of years and are only now beginning to be opposed. for years, people thought that organisms like octopi could be tested on in labs because they were unable to feel pain or form thoughts, but only now is it being discovered that octopi have huge brains and are capable of numerous skills, they can recognize people and miss them, and they have the same or even better understanding of the world around them than humans. every other organisms' intelligence has been measured against humans for so long, that the idea that other creatures may have a different way of processing information is something completely unheard of.

in conclusion: brainless fungi and molds are redefining what humans believe to be 'intelligence' by exhibiting amazing navigation of obstacle courses, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
