Tdp Runaan - Tumblr Posts
Ethari grew out his hair because he looks in the mirror and closes his eyes, imagining the soft strands that drape over his neck to be Runaan's, his eyes already wet with tears. If he cut his hair, it would be cutting the connection between Runaan and himself.

I hereby cast a curse on Runaan's horns they are really hard to make

This is so cute!! I’m gonna cry😭😭💙💙💙

I don’t know if someone has already said this but Runaan saw fake life advice on Tumblr and took it seriously. You can’t change my mind.

Whumptober Day 3: "Make it Stop."
Fandom: The Dragon Prince
Summary: Runaan is sent to deal with an Earthblood Cartel.
Warning: Character Death
Runaan moved swiftly around the tree line of the forest. He was near an Earthblood elf camp. He was there to kill the ring leader of a shroom cartel. The gang has been nothing but trouble, killing the people who displeased them.
So Runaan was there to shut it all down. Unknown to him, he has a visitor. As he approached the camp, he pulled his bow over his shoulder and scouted the area.
Then he turned around. It startled him, seeing Rayla. She had followed him. How the assassin didn't notice, he didn't know. Maybe he just taught her well?
"Rayla" Runaan whispered harshly.
"I came to help."
"I'll be fine."
"Why can't I help?"
"You don't know what you're doing! You're too young."
"I'm 12! I'm sure it's fine."
"Stay here."
"Fine." Rayla sat at the base of a nearby tree. She crossed her arms and sighed.
Runaan sighed. "Stubborn child" he whispered. "Stay out of trouble."
"I will."
Runaan looked back then started towards the cartel. He was nervous but not for himself. Rayla was young and now she was alone. Too many thoughts crossed his mind. But for now, he would just have to focus on his mission.
He reached the edge of the village and snuck in using the moon's shadow. It took longer than he expected to find the cartel but that should only be a minor setback.
Sneaking into the building Runaan hid near some stairs. Pulling his bow apart, he nabbed the first elf quickly and slit their throat. Blood fell to the ground as Rannan placed the stranger behind the stairs.
As he made his way further into the building he carefully killed the members he had been instructed to and left the others knowing that they would rather be too scared or wanted out to begin with.
Then came the last few rooms. There was screaming from the last room. It has only just come into earshot. The victim sounded young.
It startled Runaan. He walked past the few other rooms he had left and stood outside the door. Inside a deep booming voice spoke, "tell me where they are!"
A small voice answered. "I don't know!" A little girl. Runaan almost broke the door. Children were his weakness.
The girl was around 12, and looked just like Rayla. Her hair was a little bit shorter, her eyes a bit lighter, and her skin a bit darker. She had multiple wounds all over her body.
Runaan knew the girl. Not by name but he had seen her around the village. He pulled his knife as the leader of the cartel pulled the girl up by her hair.
The assassin saw red. As he got ready to attack a man grabbed him from behind. One of the most important rules of being an assassin crossed Runaan's mind, never get distracted.
The leader grabbed something from a table, "you little bitch! You brought this fucker here!" The shine of a blade could be seen as Runaan fought the bastard that held him.
The knife slid into the child's side. Runaan finally got the man off of him and grabbed his knife that had fallen to the ground. He ran it though the leader's chest making the rest of the drug deals stop with fear.
Runaan swiftly executed the rest of the Earthblood elves that surrounded him and the girl. He neglected his own body, doing anything to keep the child safe.
The remainder of the cartel members fled once they decide that they cared more about their lives than their dead boss.
Runaan moved to take care of the girl. She lay, bleeding out on the ground, sobbing uncontrollably. "It hurts!" Her voice cracked in a way that made the assassin's blood run cold.
"I know." He tried to sooth her.
"Make it stop! Please, make it stop!"
"I" Ranaan paused. "it's okay."
"Make it stop!"
"It's okay." He couldn't stop the pain. As badly as he wanted to there was nothing he could do to help her but hold the wound and pray he could get to a doctor in time.
He wanted nothing more then to switch places with her. If he could take the pain, taking it from her and feel it all for her he would.
It didn't take long for the screaming to turn to turn to just heavy breathing. Then nothing at all. It stopped. Her pain, her screaming, her heart, it all just stopped.
Runaan picked her up gently and stumbled to his feet. Her pain may have stopped but his didn't. He didn't think it ever would. He walked out of the building and back into the woods. There he met Rayla who had fallen asleep against the tree.
He sat the girl's body down out of view and kneeled to wake Rayla up. He shook her lightly and she began to stir.
"Oh you're back" she spoke.
Runaan didn't say anything instead he just grabbed her into a tight hug. It was the only time Rayla would ever see the man cry. He held her for a while before letting her go. "Let's, go home."
AI-less Whumptober Day 6: "It Should Have Been Me."
Fandom: The Dragon Prince
Warning: Character Death
Summary: Runaan goes on a job. A young girl gets caught in the crossfire.
Ethari did have a good feeling when Runaan left for him next job. He had put Rayla to bed and had made a cup of tea. He sat on a chair in the living room for most of the night. As the sky started to lighten, he started to pace.
It was almost morning when Runaan returned home. Ethari was on his fourth cup of tea, using the same tea leaves, when the door opened. He was going to greet him, but the elf had already made his way to the room.
The assassin slammed his bow down onto the ground. He quietly yelled in frustration and started to walk around the room. He jumped when he saw Eathari.
"Are you okay?" Ethari walked over to him.
Runaan opened his mouth to speak but couldn't. He instead collapsed onto his lover's arms. He cried into his shoulder.
All Ethari could do was hold him. He hoped Rayla would wake up late. All any of them needed was to add her into the equation.
"It should have been me."
"What?" His voice shook as he spoke.
"It should have been me. I should be the one we have to bury!"
"Runaan, please don't talk like that. What happened?"
He didn't answer. Instead he muttered the words again.
"Runaan, talk to me." Ethari was trying not to cry. Sure, Runaan had come back to him hurt and unstable, but this was new.
The assassin pulled back, out of the craftsmen's comforting arms. He looked at his own and apologized. "I forgot about the-" his voice broke.
"Darling it's just clothes. Please, let me take a look at you. Are you hurt?"
"It's- not, mine."
"It's going to be okay. Let's get you cleaned up." Ethari stood and offered a hand out. When Runaan didn't move the craftsmen informed him that he'll be right back.
He brought back a damp rag. "Here, give me your hands." He took Runaan's shaky hands and gently scrubbed them. The man was still trembling and tears were still falling from his eyes.
Ethari wanted to take away his pain. He looked into his eyes and softly asked, "what happened love?"
"There was this, this young girl. You get them Rayla."
Ethari's heart sunk. That's why Runaan was so distressed.
"She had" he paused "She came out of nowhere. I didn't, have time. The leader had aimed at me. He missed and" the words became sobs again as Runaan tried to explain. "I should have been me."
"It's going to be okay." Light had begun to fill the room. It wouldn't be long before Rayla would wake up. "Breathe. Let's go to our room okay?"
Runaan just grabbed him. He wrapped his arms around him tightly and didn't move. A door creeped open. Ethari listened to the footsteps as he tried to calm his husband. He didn't want Rayla to see Runaan like this, for both of their sakes.
The footsteps got quieter and the door closed gently.
Slowly, Runaan recovered. He laid on Ethari's chest, asleep. The man sat against the couch, trying to figure out how he was going to get circulation back in his leg.
Rayla decided it should be okay to come out of her room. She shut her door silently and walked the hallway without revealing she was there. She came into the living room and looked at the two of them.
Ethari had his head on the couch, even though it was uncomfortable. His arms were around his lover and Runaan's were around him. "Is everything okay?"
"It will be."
"What happened? Is he okay?"
Ethari paused. "He, just had a rough night."
"How rough because he was crying pretty hard earlier."
"Very. He'll be okay. He might be off for a while but it'll be okay."
"Okay. Are you okay? You look tired."
"Yeah, I'm okay."
Rayla seemed satisfied with that answer. She walked into the kitchen and returned with breakfast and a hot tea with just the right amount of sugar for Ethari. He smiled as she entered the room. "Thank you Rayla."
She just smiled and handed the cup to him. "Can you bring me a damp cloth?" He asked.
"Yeah" she whispered. After moment she came back to the room and handed it to him. "Here."
"Thank you." He took bits of Runaan's hair into his hands and gently pressed the cloth against it to get buts of dried blood out of it.
Rayla sat down near him with her legs crossed, "he'll be okay."
"I know. Are you okay? This can be a lot to deal with."
"Yeah I'm okay."
"Okay."
The room filled with silence. Eventually Rayla fell asleep and Ethari was alone again. What could he do about this? Nothing he could say or do would ever convince Runaan that it wasn't his fault. So he just had to be there, be a shoulder to lean on, be a chest to sleep on, and be arms that he could feel safe and loved in.
Ethari took a deep breath then took a sip of his tea. He had a long way to go and the road would not make it easy. But no matter what, he would make sure Runaan made it through the rocks and breyers. Even if it meant holding his hand and walking through it with him.
Merry Whumpmas Day 5: Poison
Fandom: The Dragon Prince
Summary: Runaan leaves a poison on the table as he goes to grab something before leaving not knowing anyone was home. Ethari comes out of his workshop and decides he wants a drink.
Assassins are careful. But sometimes being careful isn't enough. Sometimes you need to make sure your husband isn't home when you leave your poison next to his glass. The color of the liquids were that different.
Ethari walked out of his workshop to realize he had forgotten his drink on the table. Runaan had almost forgotten his small knife he kept on him just in case.
As he walked out to the dinning room where he had left his supplies, he paused for a moment. "I didn't know you were home."
"Oh, I was in my workshop. Are you about to head out love?" Ethari asked as he set down his glass.
Runaan looked at the glass. He looked at the one next to it and froze. His eyes locked on the two glasses as he realized that his husband had grabbed the wrong glass.
"Ethari, sit down." He pulled out a chair at the table and pushed him into it.
"Is everything okay?" the man asked.
"No. You grabbed the wrong glass."
Runaan's heart sank as he watched Ethari realize what had happened.
"It's okay. Go get the antidote. I'll be fine here."
The elf ran back to his closet. He had moved everything there when Rayla moved in. He tore it apart trying to find it.
In the other room, Ethari started to feel the effects of the poison. He tried to stand to go help Runaan and to maybe help him calm down. He got a few feet before he collapsed. His breathing speed slightly as he sat against the table.
A crash came from their room. Runaan pulled away from the object that fell. He looked at his shaking hand to see blood coming out of a large cut. He shook it off and looked back to the closet.
Rayla hadn't moved in all that long ago and he hadn't had a chance to really organize everything yet. She took up a lot more time then Runaan had realized she would. He didn't mind most of the time but right now he almost resented taking her in.
But even then he knew it wasn't her fault. As he grabbed for a vile at the top of the shelf, he thought about how he knew better then to leave something as deadly as poison on the table. He knew better then to assume it would be okay.
The vile came into his grasp and he looked at the label on the bottom. He had found what he needed.
Ethari couldn't see straight. He had a terrible headache and everything felt off center. Even though he knew he was staying still, everything felt like it was moving. The worst part was feeling tired. He felt so tired.
When Runaan came into the room, Ethari hadn't noticed at first. He only saw him when he was a few feet in front of him.
"Love?" He asked.
"Drink this." Runaan put the small vile against Ethari's lips and tipped it some. The elf tried to take the glass but Runaan didn't let him.
Slowly he started to recover. While he still couldn't see straight or think very well, Ethari took his husband's injured hand into his own. He looked at his, swaying and tried to get him to take care of it.
At first Runaan didn't understand but slowly he got the point and grabbed a nearby towel and pressed it against his hand. "Is that better?"
Ethari smiled. Runaan grabbed him and laid him down on the couch. He grabbed the trash can and put it next to them and held Ethari's hair when he threw up. He pulled the other back into the couch when he almost fell off.
Another assassin walked into their home. He didn't even knock. He looked at Runaan confused. "Everything okay? You were supposed to meet up like thirty minutes ago."
"I'm going to be late. If the time comes and you must leave, I will catch up."
"Okay?" The elf sounded skeptical as he started to walk away.
"Can you, find Rayla for me? Take her the coins on the counter and tell her to grab some bread from the market."
"Don't want her home yet?" He asked.
"Not yet."
The assassin grabbed the coins and headed for the door. "I'll keep her distracted."
"Thank you." Runaan looked back at the man in front of him. He sighed. This had never happened before. Normally he was more careful than that. He never should have left such a strong poison on the table.
It was yours before Ethari came close to recovering. The assassin had done as he said he and had kept Rayla away from the home.
"I'm so sorry" Runaan began. "I never should have left poison on the table. I was just going to grab something."
"It's okay." Ethari spoke slowly and softly. "I probably should have looked."
"No this is my fault. How are you feeling?"
"Better then before."
"Good."
"You need to go right?"
"I can stay."
"No, you go ahead. I'll be okay."
It took awhile before Runaan finally agreed to leave. He left the trash can by his side and bright Ethari a glass of water.
"I'll be home soon. I love you." He kissed Ethari's forehead and made his way to the door.
"I love you too dear." Ethari laid back down on the couch. He grabbed the glass of water and took a sip of it. Then he set it back on the table and grabbed the book that was there. Taking the blanket into his hands, he pulled it over him and opened the book. At least he had a reason to read now.
she loves Lain and Tiadrin, but Runaan has been her parent in a way they haven't for years. Her birth parents chose to love her from afar, they send presents and letters on her birthday. They visited, they cared... But they were ultimately away for years. It's almost like they are godparents or distant aunt and uncle. People you love, but aren't part of your daily life. She's come to understand their decision obviously, even before having made a similar choice in leaving Callum -- but then again she later realized she wanted to be by his side more than anything else, which her parents never did.
Runaan was there. He was there with her everyday, telling her it was bedtime, making her breakfast, training her to be an assassin, collecting flowers, applying Sun's Tears healing salve the her scrapes. It's Runaan (and Ethari) she's attached to as primary caregivers. Of course it is!

what's really striking to me is the fact that Callum is holding (supposedly) Runaan in one hand separate from Lain and Tiadrin. I wonder why?
SPOILER FOR THE DRAGON PRINCE SEASON 4!
When Claudia gave Rayla the coins of Runaan and her parents I SCREAMED! If they are released in the next season, THERE WILL BE SO MUCH DRAMA AND TENSION!! Ruthari reunion!! Rayla will get her parents back!! Things will be awkward between Runaan and Soren and the princes!
GIVE ME SEASON 5!!!
Ok so prepare your tissues cause I’m about to break your hearts.
So we all know Runaan was coined and so were Lain and Tiadrin, right? Right.
And everybody’s talking about how, when they get out there’s gonna be a beautiful reunion between the Moonfam and all. But what is circumstances were different?
What if after being trapped in the coins they wouldn’t be able to retain normal bodily functions? Because they have no access to food, natural vitamins or water. And I mean obviously they can breathe and all but that’s a topic that I’d like to get into later.
So you can breathe sure but Runaan was already probably half starved to actual death and Lain and Tiadrin were fine from what we saw, I mean probably racked with guilt for leaving their only child, but fine. So back to the topic.
What if they weren’t frozen there? What if they died of dehydration, starvation or lack of oxygen even? That means that even if they are able to get out of there all that Rayla and Ethari would be looking forward to would be replaced with the corpses of their loved ones. And just imagine Rayla breaking down in tears being held be a silently screaming Ethari.
You’re welcome for your daily heartbreak ladies and gentle burrs. You may now start the rampage.
I'm surprised that no one's brought up the very real possibility that, during the time skip, Ethari might have begun to move on and is now in a serious relationship with someone else.
If so, then obviously it won't last long once Runaan and Ethari reunite (Ruthari forever, am I right). But! Can you imagine the sheer angst of the whole situation? Runaan's heartbreak at seeing his husband, his guiding moon, with someone else, when it was the thought of getting back to Ethari that helped him regain his sense of self.
Ethari's simultaneous joy that Runaan is alive coupled with his guilt of both moving on with someone else and having to break his new partner's heart because he can't deny that despite his feelings for him, maybe even loving him, his heart ultimately belongs to Runaan, always and forever.
His partner's heartbreak because he really does love Ethari, he wants a life with him, but he knows there's nothing he can do to keep him by his side and he has no choice but to let him go.
Aaravos you better stay away from callum specifically
