Rise Ramblings #664

There are two concepts that I really appreciate in Rise of the TMNT, of which, helped to set the Rise boys apart from other iterations.

Before the start of the show, the Rise boys:

1) Already met their lifetime bestie, April O’Neal.

2) Have already journeyed topside, thus it’s no big deal.

The fact that these concepts are already established from the start helps to take away the typical stresses from the turtles’ story. Instead, the stage is set for the specific type of adventures and hijinks the Rise boys do get into, such as discovering the wonders of the Hidden City and the people that dwell therein.

I believe that there are two people we can thank for helping the boys understand the world around them.

First is Splinter and his lackadaisical parenting style.

Since he was a more relaxed father than his other incarnations, I’m sure that these boys were free to explore the world at an earlier age. Most certainly, many of their childhood adventures landed them topside, thus allowing them to have experiences that their other versions were unable to have.

The second person is April.

What does April have to do with their upbringing?

Well, I’ll show you.

Five years from the start of the show the boys would have been 8, 9, 9, and 10. What great ages to meet their first real friend!

Growing up with April would have had a huge effect on their social development; they’d be adapted to speaking with people outside of their immediate family, they’d learn about society through first-hand experiences and not just from tv or books, and they would have gotten used to the world around them by April acting like a bridge between the sewers and topside.

This is why by the start of the show, I believe, the turtles were already so well socialized!

Rise of the TMNT Ep 1 Mystic Mayhem Review

First of all, I haven’t seen TMNT 2018, so this is my first time. For each eps I will watch I will write a review about them. So lets get started...

- When I first watched Mystic Mayhem, I thought it was too childish (but I know it was aimed for little kids, so that’s not a big problem) 

- I thought Raph was shown as the leader and Donnie was shown as the ‘BEST FIGHTER’ (like ‘OK’ fighter) while Leo was scared of fighting, and acted childish, while Mikey had NO ROLE at all. I hated this as Leo as meant to be the LEADER, but wasn't and Raph was. I also wanted Mikey to be more ‘part of the TEAM’, as he felt like a STRANGER standing next to the team, doing nothing.

- Raph also seemed like a ‘SOFTIE’, when he’s meant to be tough, so I want the OLD RAPH

- I hated how Master Splinter looked - FAT & LAZY. Master Splinter is meant to be bossy and a Master, but he seems more of a lazy dad, who doesn't care about what his sons do. He also calls the turtles by there color like ‘The ‘purple’ one is the funny one.’ I hate that. It shows no respect to the Turtles. From this we can take no surprise why the Turtle are so bad at fighting.

- The voice actors of all the characters are weird - the voices don’t suit any of the characters

- April!!! I hated her, literally!!! In all of the TMNT’s April has always been ‘WHITE & a RED-HEAD’, so why would they make her BLACK!!?? Maybe because of BLM or wanted to change her, but still, she’s meant to be ‘WHITE & a RED-HEAD’! I’m not RACIST, but it’s meant to be like that! I also HATE her VOICE!!! She also tries to act all COOL & TOUGH, but she really isn’t. I know in all the other TMNT’s April has been tough and cool but in the very 1st ep she seems OVERCONFIDENT. I think the directors wanted to change her character, but I will always prefer the WHITE, RED-HEADED April.
