Esta provincia surge como tal con el establecimiento de las divisiones provinciales de Javier de Burgos en 1833, siendo adscrita a la región del Reino de León.
Arquitectura popular comarca de Toro
Fue denominada Arbocela y Arbucala por los fenicios. Tito Livio habla de Toro como ciudad vaccea amiga de Roma. En época romana pasa por la ciudad la vía romana que unía Ocelo Duri (Zamora) con Cesar Avgvsta (Zaragoza). Durante la época visigoda la zona de Tierra de Campos donde se asienta la comarca se llama CAMPI GOTHORVM (Campos Góticos). En el 890 Alfonso III repuebla y amuralla la ciudad de Toro al igual que muchos otros pueblos.
