When you meet it’s almost an immediate click. When your friendship starts he’s so confused. Dirk had had crushes before but never like this. He’s so confused about how to feel about you. At first he thought he was in love with you. But the more he got to know you he realized he wasn’t exactly “in love with you” he was just so happy to be around and with you!
eventually he realized he wanted to be your best friend. He wanted to be your... Moirail was it called? Yeah. That’s probably it.
He immediately started to crave your affection. He eventually had to come out and tell you how he felt. How he wanted to protect you and always be there for you, in a friend way! You laughed and hugged him so tightly.
He loves you so much! He’s always holding your hand and keeping you around as he works
You both go on friend dates and have pizza/movie nights.
You comported him and Jake when their relationship ended.
He cuddles you and comes for you to companionship.

It comes very naturally, the obsession. It’s slow over time. It chews at him. Ripping him apart. You’re one of his friends, from before? Watching that reader make friends with a younger version of you reminded him.
It reminded him that you belonged together, how absolutely perfect you were. You were his. And HE controlled the narrative your, he controlled you. And that fucking reader couldn’t get in the way. No one could.

Dirk is a very smart person. He watches you, just for his own sick pleasure, he makes your life crumble around you. He prepared you for when he is to come. He expected to be welcomed with open arms, after all, he’s been dead for “so long”
But he knew deep down that this wasn’t right. He wasn’t suppose to keep you, you’re not an object, a toy. But it’s too late. He’s addicted to you. No one could ever make him feel this good. Not Jake, not anyone.
