SUN VALLEY SERENADE (Dir: H Bruce Humberstone, 1941).
Produced by 20th Century Fox, Sun Valley Serenade was conceived as a star vehicle for popular figure skating champ turned film star Sonja Henie. Of greater significance, it also provided Glenn Miller and his Orchestra with a rare feature film appearance.
As a publicity stunt, band pianist Ted Scott (John Payne) agrees to sponsor a Norwegian refugee. Expecting a child he is surprised when the emigre turns out to be attractive skating expert Karen Benson (Sonja Henie). Ted's band, including his fiancee Vivian (Lynn Bari) and bandleader Phil Corey (Glenn Miller) are due to begin a Christmas season at Idaho ski resort Sun Valley. Supposedly staying behind Karen, sneaks aboard the train to Idaho, with the plan to bust up Ted and Vivian and hook herself a husband to boot. Along for the ride is Milton Berle as the band's manager.

For me, the most exciting aspect of my move is being an easy day trip away from some skiing. Skiing is the thing I love most in this world, and how exciting is it that I can hop on these slopes without having to book hotels, etc…. Man I’m a happy camper today.
Y’all obviously know how much I love SC, but Colorado has always been my favorite place out west. It’s one of my happiest places, and I have so many fond memories here. I fly out here as much as possible, usually to snow ski. I haven’t been out here since starting this blog, but Summit County is always somewhere I look forwarding to visiting time and time again. The powder was calling my name.
I love that Rocky Mountain powder.
7 years ago, I summit bowl skied at Breckenridge (red jacket). I was giddy with excitement, and I will always remember that day.
Fast forward, the backside of the same summit is in the background of this picture. So many good memories surround me here.

Figure skating is such on interesting sport bc I’ll say something like “ugh I’m so bad I still can’t do a sit spin even though I’ve been practicing it for so long” and someone who’s not into figure skating will be like “WHAT you’re so good I just saw you do that jumpy spinny thing!!! Good job pookie you’re doing great!”
Honestly, I think I’m most proud of these two designs; not just for the complexity of the outfits themselves, but for how much I was able to finally learn when it came to capturing definition.
