Hi, Just Wanted To Send This In! Headcanons For Two Characters Of Your Choosing Plus Chrollo About Their
Hi, just wanted to send this in! Headcanons for two characters of your choosing plus Chrollo about their reactions after their s/o’s death? Maybe like the grieving process. Bonus points if their death was caused in/directly by them 😈 angst angst angst
Hi, thank you for the ask! Ooh this is quite sad, I think I have two others that might be interesting to write for here
Chrollo, Feitan, Kurapika reactions to their s/o's death (inadvertently caused by them)
Chrollo
He had pushed you too far this time, telling you to go on the mission by yourself since you kept insisting you could do it. How foolish of him to let you go without thinking a certain chain user might be in the way. You hadn't returned after many hours. The mission shouldn't have taken that long, and the rest of the troupe was also agitated
The search started as soon as the sun began to rise. The troupe members scattered throughout the city to see if you were accidentally sleeping somewhere and forgot to come back. However, Chrollo stumbled upon your lifeless body in a rubbish dump. How fitting, you were from Meteor City, a junkyard.
"Y/n, are you sleeping?" He laughed, but as he kept calling out, you weren't responding. Touching your face, he felt his heart stop. You were cold. "Y/n," he breathed out. The sun's rays caress your face as if you were reached by the heavens. But this moment was nothing peaceful inside Chrollo's heart.
The troupe returned and saw Chrollo carrying you. The rest of them asked what had happened, he remained calm however. "We lost another it seems," he says quietly. Though he looks composed, the entire room fills with bloodlust that fades just as quickly as it came. He asks to be left alone and the rest of the spiders oblige.
Chrollo does not show his emotions to others, especially because as a leader he must be strong. But he breaks down, he had failed his role in keeping the spiders, no, you safe. Though revenge is something he wants, at the moment he wants nothing more than for you to hear his apologies of not keeping you safe
Feitan
He knew he was rough, that was why at first he didn't want to be in a relationship with anyone, especially someone outside of the troupe. You were just a regular person, you didn't know about anything related to the troupe nor nen, you were fragile. But maybe it was that fragility and that brightness that drew him to you.
This time however, you found out about his business with the troupe. You were upset at him hiding this fact from you, and this sparked a fight between the two of you. Feitan warned you to calm down, but it was really him that should have calmed down because the minute you threatened to let the officials know he quickly aimed his hand for your neck.
Had you been any other nen user or opponent he was used to, you would have survived and maybe had a sore throat for a few months. However, he punctured your neck, causing blood to spill and for you to splurt out a weak "Feitan" before slipping to your knees. Ater a split second he realized what he had just done.
"Y-y/n," it was the first time you had seen any emotion from him. It was fear. His eyes grew wide, he held you up, trying to keep you from falling. You tried tell him sorry, but blood kept spilling everywhere and your words were reduced to nonsense choking. Feitan kept telling you to shut up and that you had to stay alive.
It was an agonizing two minutes before you lost consciousness and eventually stopped breathing. Feitan stood up, not knowing what to do with your body. He was used to cleaning up corpses with what his job demanded, but this time he was lost. The next time the troupe saw him, he was a lot colder than usual. No one knew what had happened, other than that when Phinks asked where Feitan's lover was Feitan gave him a punch but his eyes held sadness more than anger
Kurapika
He shouldn't have prioritized his path of revenge over the lives of people he cared about. Sure, the Kurta seemed to call to him to avenge their deaths, but those that were living were also calling to him to not go down the path of destruction. He should've listened a little harder to those that were still with him in the physical world.
Being someone from Meteor City, someone that was close to the troupe didn't exactly translate to you being sympathetic to the spiders. But an argument got heated, and he lost control. You were trying to get him to stop his fight to hunt for the rest of the Kurta eyes and even the troupe but he thought you didn't understand his pain. Nen was involved soon enough.
Though you tried to fight him, he was skilled. Being Kurta made Kurapika much stronger too even in terms of sheer physical strength. He couldn't use Emperor Time on you, but that didn't stop him from using his chains in general. When you thought he was done with his chains, you rushed to restrain him from continuing his anger but he only grabbed for a nearby pen.
The anger blinded him from seeing what had just happened. The next thing he remembered after you told him that he should stop his revenge was that he had a pen in his hand that was stabbed into your chest. You were coughing violently, eyes wide and brimming with tears. You told him you were sorry and that you should've understood him better. Weakly, you reached up to his face, meeting his red eyes that soon faded back to brown. But you were too weak, your eyes closed and you slumped.
"No," Kurapika breathed out, "No no no no, y/n, y/n don't leave me," he shook you, holding you up and trying to get you to wake up. His actions took someone's life once again, another burden to shoulder. He knew his anger could be deadly, but never did he think it could kill you. How was he to forgive himself any longer when he was already feeling the anguish of his clan? Kurapika cried as he held you, repeating apologies and refusing to let go of you.

'Miffy.’
'Hm?’ 'Sweet little bunny.’ 'Miffy.’
’ ‘S that?'
'Miffy, miffy, miffy, run!’ you exclaimed, pouncing on Nagi, fingers set to work as you tickled his sides, making him squirm. That was probably the most beautiful laugh you had ever heard, his voice echoing through the walls of your shared bedroom after his nap.
A memory that seemed so long ago.

hi!! I've been a fan of your works for the longest time!! could i request an airheaded yuu who doesn't know what they're doing half the time but they can say something randomly philosophical once in a blue moon that keeps you up at night with Riddle, Ace and Deuce? gender-neutral reader please! i thought of this one while going to bed last night so apologies if it's incomprehensible skdjksdfjkfksd
thank you!
🍭anon
Omg this was so silly… thank you so much for your request, 🍭anon! I Hope you like this!!!
Riddle, Ace and Deuce with an air-headed s/o that keeps them up at night…. (With questions)
Riddle x reader, Ace x reader, Deuce x reader
Riddle
A pair of crimson eyes tend to linger on your every step , whenever you stroll by the Heartsabyul dorm. The careful, watchful eyes of your schoolmate, Riddle Rosehearts. He is no stranger to the antics you pull, no matter if they were intended or not.
Riddle finds his reaction time improving by leaps and bounds whenever he hears your surprise. Immediately rushing to your side, ready to extract you out of whatever trouble you saw fit to land yourself in this time.
Both of his hands have long mastered the art of sliding around your waist, yanking in one smooth, fluid motion. Sometimes, the momentum gets the better of both of you, and you end up tumbling straight into his arms.
Clutching onto his shoulders, you hold him tight. Standing there in each other’s embrace, you two strike the perfect image of star-crossed lovers.
Riddle can’t help the way his lips slip upwards. A smile as sweet as ruby-red strawberry tarts. Honestly, prefect. You do enjoy having him on the edge, don’t you?
He still fusses quite a bit, though. Don’t expect to escape without a lecture. However, for all the words that fall from his lips, yours seem to have the most impact.
Odd, queer questions that would have never crossed his mind. You seem to have a knack for thinking of things people wouldn’t normally. Sometimes, he finds himself up at night pondering your queries.
Always full of surprises, aren’t you, darling?
“Hey, Riddle. Why is it that people say they "slept like a baby" when babies wake up, like, every two hours?”
“I… honestly can’t say. Perhaps it would be the peacefulness and tranquility they sleep with… no matter how brief.”
Ace
You’ll soon grow used to a weight pressing onto your shoulders. Slinging an arm around you, Ace tends to lean into you quite a bit. He tags along wherever you go, that insufferable smirk never far from his lips.
Of course, it drops as quickly as it appears whenever he has to run to wherever you’ve wandered off this time. Ace has heard of air-minded people, but this is the first time he had to deal with one. There ain’t nothing but fluff and feathers up there, huh?
For all his teasing, Ace always is there to yank you out of whatever trouble you’ve stirred up. His arm stretching out, wrapping tightly around your torso. You could feel every pulse beating through his skin as Ace pulls you close. Out of harm’s reach.
Man, have you never heard? Curiosity killed the cat. You’re so lucky he was around to help you out. So how about a kiss, for all that effort?
Speaking of effort, you’ve made Ace burn more brainpower then the entire Night Raven curriculum has in an entire year. You had a weird fondness for weird questions that keep him tossing and turning in his sleep. Do you enjoy causing him sleepless nights?
There’s really no need for the questions, then.
He’s already thinking about you all the time.
“If money doesn't grow on trees, why do banks have branches?”
“You have no idea how bad I want to kiss you right now.”
Deuce
For most of his misguided youth, Deuce was always the one charging forth, headstrong. Never stopping to think about the consequences. He would have called it courage, back then.
Now watching you leap mindlessly into mess after mess, he’s changed his mind. Deuce trails after you like a lost puppy, following your every step. His curiosity often aligns with yours, although Deuce has to admire your… bravery for just going straight in. Whenever someone catches your interest, off you go! Without a care in the world.
Sometimes, that curiosity takes you too far. Then, Deuce springs into action. Honestly, he should start timing his sprinting towards you. Deuce swears he never runs this fast on the track.
He isn’t one for niceties whenever you’re under the slightest hint of danger. Arms stretched out, he’s tackling you straight out of the hit-zone. Mid-air, Deuce’s arms snake around your torso, clutching you in an tight embrace. His own back, your shield keeping you from all harm.
Both of you end up on the floor, a panting Deuce above of you. His hands pat your face frantically, words coming out in broken, jerky stammers. You have to assure him that you’re alright before his shoulders even think about starting to relax.
He’s just happy you’re ok.
Well, Deuce would be a bit lonely at night if you got hurt. He tends to call you from his dorm for homework help, although the conversations tend to drift elsewhere most of the time. Specifically, your odd questions.
Deuce’s drawing out entire diagrams, and both of you spend hours over the phone, discussing various fantastic theories. Each one more weirder then the last.
Deuce never thought he’ll have so much fun just talking.
You’re just special, aren’t you?
“Do married people live longer than single ones or does it only seem longer?”
“Hold up, I’m opening my laptop right now-“

Tonight, waves lap at the shore, ebbing and flowing in a steady rhythm, creating a repetitive beat — a baseline for nature’s songs. The sea reflects the darkening skies above, displays of vivid blue and violet lined with subtle shades of rose gold. Sand shifts as you walk barefoot along the shoreline with your closest friend, each grain absorbing the remnants of daytime warmth.
“KAZUHA, hurry up!” you yell, rushing ahead despite the resistance of the miniature dunes beneath you. Playful giggles fill the air as you run and Kazuha chases after you, trying his best to ensure that you remain within his sight.
“Ah, wait!” he calls back, following after you.
Although your legs carry you far, you eventually begin to pant, and your body feels far too heavy to continue on. In a single motion, you dramatically fall to the ground, thankful for the sand below acting as padding. You crash, but fortunately, you’re not injured.
Seconds later, Kazuha catches up. He stands above you, gazing down at your breathless face and smiling softly. Embers of adoration ignite in crimson eyes reminiscent of autumn leaves, burning brightly as he offers a hand to you.
“Are you alright?” he asks, grabbing one of your hands firmly. In one swift motion, he pulls you to your feet, and you nod.
“I’m fine,” you manage to say between gasps for air. You’re still tired, and you suppose you should have conserved some energy instead of attempting to run at the speed of light. However, you know you’ll recover eventually.
Kazuha stares at you for a second, irises mirroring shades of sunset flickering over your each and every feature before he shakes his head.
“You look like you need a rest,” he tells you.
He sits down on the sand and pats the spot next to him, gesturing for you to take a seat next to him. You do as he instructs, and soon enough, you find yourself on the ground beside Kazuha, your shoulders nearly touching.
You glance over at him, admiring the way his snow white hair, highlighted by the dying crepuscule, billows in the sea breeze. Autumnal pools of molten rubies fill with small flecks of gold as he keeps his gaze fixated upon the tranquil sea before you. But nothing rivals the smile that comes to adorn his features — full of wonder, an encapsulation of the sun’s brilliance and the moon’s serenity.
Ethereal. That’s the word that comes to mind while you stare at the beautiful boy next to you, and yet, you fear it’s still not enough to describe him.
He’s perfect. His allure rivals that of the panoramic scenery before you.
You wish you could stay in the moment forever — or at the very least, permanently etch every last detail of today into your memory.
Soon enough, the last threads of warmth are pulled from the earth with the disappearance of the sun, and a chill begins to radiate as the cold light of the moon overtakes the sky. Every hint of marigold, coral, and canary completely vanishes. In their place, a deeper midnight blue ebbs into the heavens. As the wind passes by, you feel a slight shiver run down your spine.
And your discomfort doesn’t go unnoticed.
“Are you cold, my dearest?” Kazuha asks you.
The term of endearment causes a warmth to rise to your cheeks. Although affectionate words aren’t rare with Kazuha, your friend is making it sound as though the two of you are a couple.
However, your embarrassment fades as another gust of glacial fervor drifts by to steal the heat from your face, you force yourself to nod. You know that even if you lie, Kazuha will be able to see right through you. You’ve been friends for a while now, and given Kazuha’s attunement to nature, it’s nearly impossible to deceive him.
The wandering samurai wraps an arm around you, igniting a warmth akin to the caress of golden sunrays. His embrace is so warm… so comforting…
You feel your eyelids becoming heavy, and your head involuntarily falls to Kazuha’s shoulder. Slumber begins to overtake you. Tendrils of tantalization pull you deeper into a realm of oneiric euphoria, blurring out the waking world in the process.
But through it all, thoughts of the boy beside you, the one who embodies transient autumns in both looks in personality, never leave your mind.
Just as you feel yourself falling into a plane of enchanting fantasies, you hear six soft words spoken in tandem, whispered by a voice more delicate than the marine zephyrs surrounding you.
“The moon is beautiful, isn’t it?”
“Wow, you’re really bad at this,” the WANDERER huffs. “At this rate, we’ll freeze to death.”
You can feel the Wanderer’s indigo gaze, a flawless mimic of the night sky, piercing into the depths of your soul, scrutinizing your every move. At the moment, the only illumination is provided by phantasmagoric stars dotting a canvas of murky navy and violet, but it seems to be enough for him to make out your silhouette against the surrounding shadows.
You sigh, tangible frustration permeating the otherwise serene evening air as you exhale.
“I’m sorry,” you say. “I guess I’m just tired or something.”
For a few seconds, a defeaning silence fills the atmosphere, transforming the ambience into one of awkwardness.
And then you feel the Wanderer sit down beside you.
“Whatever,” he mutters. “You’re clearly exhausted and in no state to be starting a fire.” For some reason, his tone of voice is far less pointed than usual, changing from an embodiment of everwinter storms to something more akin to a honeyed warmth — a tranquil portrait of summer’s joys.
You open your mouth to apologize again, but before you can speak, you hear grass rustling as the Wanderer stands up. Your gaze follows his barely-visible figure as he walks a short distance from where you’re sitting back to the small tent you set up earlier. He rummages around for a second before returning and draping a blanket around your shoulders.
“Don’t bother thanking me,” he says, sitting back down next to you.
Your traveling companion looks up at the star-speckled sky, and you swear you can see galaxies full of vibrant magenta and ocean blue reflected in his irises.
“Aren’t you cold too?” you ask, breaking the fragile, short-lived silence into fragments with words that echo in the midnight air, seemingly amplified in the midst of a peaceful moment.
The Wanderer simply shakes his head in response.
“There’s no need to worry about me,” he says.
And yet you still can’t help but feel guilty. You’re nice and cozy underneath the protection of a velvety blanket, safe from the frigid fingers of encroaching night. Meanwhile, the Wanderer is left to fend for himself.
What if you just share the blanket?
The idea is certainly tempting, but you’re a little too scared to follow through with it. Throughout your time with the Wanderer, you’ve gotten the feeling that he’s rather unfond of touch. After all, with his snarky attitude and unfriendly demeanor, he’s the antithesis of a cuddly person.
However, as you shift to sit in a more comfortable position, your fingers accidentally brush against his, causing you to flinch.
He’s cold. Incredibly cold.
And yet not a shiver runs down his spine.
Is he pretending to be alright for your sake?
The mere thought is enough to send another wave of warmth through your body, and suddenly, you feel less alone in the midst of enigmatic darkness. You realize that although he doesn’t outright show it, the Wanderer cares about you. Your heart flutters with the delicacy of a butterfly’s iridescent wings.
“You’re looking out for me,” you whisper under your breath. A small smile dances across your lips, and you decide to take a risk, jumping off a ledge of certainty and into an abyss filled with unknown feelings and fragile bonds.
With one swift movement, you take the end of the blanket closer to the Wanderer and wrap it around his shoulders. Now you’re sharing, and you can feel him pressing up against you. You swear you can feel the tempo of your heartbeat intensifying, each thump resounding in rapid succession.
To your surprise, the Wanderer doesn’t try to push you away. Instead, he scoots towards you.
“You don’t mind this?” you ask him, anticipating his response with bated breath.
For a second, silence fills the night, sending your mind into a polarizing frenzy and your heart into a panic. However, when the Wanderer speaks, you feel the tension leave your body.
“I don’t…” he starts, pausing briefly to consider his next words. Perhaps the surrounding darkness gives him courage, or perhaps he simply can’t suppress his feelings anymore because his next words are entirely unexpected, “but only because it’s you.”
Petals of red and gold bloom into voids of darkness, illuminating endless night in a display of phosphorescent flowers. But the sky isn’t the only thing that undergoes a stunning metamorphosis due to the luminous grace of the fireworks painting the shadows. In the edges of your vision, borders frayed from staring at the breathtaking sight before you for far too long, you catch an spark blaze alight within the honeyed amber of XIAO’s eyes. A subtle smile graces his features.
It’s barely noticeable, but it’s there.
You turn your attention to the beautiful boy beside you, absolutely captivated by the grin adorning his face. Displays of happiness from Xiao are rare, occurrences rivaling the convergence of sun and moon — a total eclipse. Your heart beats erratically, creating an exhilarating backing for a nocturne composed of the crackling of fireworks.
“You’re smiling,” you whisper.
Xiao grunts dismissively.
“Nonsense,” he says, wiping all traces of childish wonder and carefree bliss from his face. “The foolish antics of humans mean nothing to the Adepti.”
You feel the corners of your lips turn down. It’s almost like Xiao’s mood is infectious at the moment. When he’s smiling, you’re smiling, and when the euphoria fades from his expression, a certain lightness seems to vanish from the atmosphere.
“Oh, I see.” Your voice comes out meek, dulled by the immense disappointment filling your heart.
You want nothing more than to see Xiao happy. Throughout your time together, you’ve grown to care about him — admittedly a little bit more than platonically — and yet despite your concerns, you feel like Xiao doesn’t share the same sentiments. Xiao doesn’t quite care about his joy as much as you do. He’s far more content with protecting you, and although his actions never fail to cause giddiness to overwhelm you, you can’t help but want to see him smile for once.
Perhaps he’s scared of shattering the cold and distant image he’s crafted, despite the fact that you already know it’s all a fragile illusion formed from jagged shards of the most delicate crystal. Deep down, you know Xiao is caring and warm, akin to a flawless summer day, complete with golden rays of sunlight beaming down at you and a honeyed caress.
It seems that Xiao has noticed the negativity radiating off of you because as you avert your gaze, staring at the wooden floor of Wangshu Inn’s balcony, you hear Xiao’s voice once again.
“Wait,” he interjects, cutting through the thick silence with a singular pointed word, sharper than a dagger constructed from the toughest of diamonds. “I… should explain myself,” he mumbles.
Although you look up once more to make eye contact with Xiao, you’re unsuccessful. Now he’s the one avoiding your stare, and he looks nothing short of endearingly shy. Gilded lamplight illuminates his features, making the sunset blush dawning on his cheeks all the more apparent to you.
“I wasn’t…” Xiao manages before pausing once more. “I wasn’t only smiling because of the fireworks,” he forces himself to say.
His words pique your interest. Although the rest of the night is exceptionally beautiful, the various acrylic hues burgeoning across a canvas painted a dark obsidian shade are the most noteworthy sights of the evening. When you try to think of anything that even closely parallels their beauty, nothing comes to mind.
“I felt at peace,” he says, his voice softening, “because you were beside me.”
You inhale sharply. The air feels far too electrifying at the moment, shocking you with an unexpected elation. You didn’t expect Xiao to be so forward, and yet, here he is, more or less telling you how much you mean to him. Many words remain unspoken, but you already know Xiao well enough to understand the weight of that one sentence.
As you glance over to the adeptus once more, a grin dances across your face. Aureate galaxies meet your gaze, sparkling with the subtlest hints of adoration.
The blush across Xiao’s cheeks only intensifies as the corners of his lips turn up once again in a shy smile.
It’s luminous. His expression, a true embodiment of equanimity and contentment, turns even the most breathtaking of fireworks more vibrant and the brightest of stars more radiant.
It’s at that moment that an epiphany strikes.
Contrary to what you had believed just moments prior, there’s one thing that rivals the stunning nature of the rainbow-infused pyrotechnics before you: the soft grin adorning Xiao’s features, accentuating each part of his face with a light brighter than that of an imploding supernova.
thank you for reading! i have a few more drafts that are close to finished, so i might post again soon (no promises though because i tend to procrastinate on my writing).

You were so sure that he would have accepted your feelings. Your body is hot with embarrassment and the gaze of everyone in the hallway. You feel absolutely idiotic right now, bent over holding out a confession letter even after he’s left.
You stand up despite wanting to curl into a ball on the floor and reflexively brush yourself off. You’re in shock and know you can’t cry, not in front of all these people. But the whispers from those who had witnessed your failed confession reach your ears, and you think maybe you will cry in front of them.
You turn to leave, the bell will ring soon, but someone is calling your name loud enough for the hallway to turn their heads. “Hey! (Y/n)!” He’s out of breath and heaving, having run through the crowded hallway to reach you. The ravenette grasps your hands and declares loudly, “I love you! Please go out with me!”
You look down at your hands enveloped in his and then up to his expectant stare with wide eyes. You recognize him. He’s in your class, Yoichi Isagi. Was he really interested in you? He whispers to you, “I’m trying to help you out. Just say yes.”
With a gasp, you seem to put the puzzle pieces together. Isagi is helping you save face. You smile, albeit warily, and respond, “Thank you, Isagi. I’m really flattered that you made such a declaration. I can’t say I return your sentiments, but I’m willing to try.”
He beams, glad that you took his help. “After class, I’ll take you to my favorite place, so please wait for me!” He replies loudly, so everyone can hear once again. You’re still shocked and confused but nod fervently to play along in his scheme.
Isagi walks you to your shared class and pulls out your chair at your desk for you. He tilts his head and gives you a close-eyed smile before he heads to his seat behind yours. As soon as he’s seated, you have people swarming your desk, all asking about your very eventful morning. The bell rings and silences their questions. You give them a brief smile and a helpless shrug as the teacher walks in.
Lunch doesn’t come soon enough. Your classmates are starting to crowd your desk again. Isagi pushes through all of them, grabs your hand, and rushes out of the room with you in tow. You glance back to the door and see your classmates poking their heads out of the doorframe in an attempt to see where Isagi is taking you. He leads you to a staircase at the backside of the building, where only a few people are around.
He lets go of your hand and apologizes, “I’m so sorry. I grabbed your hand without thinking, but you looked uncomfortable earlier. Everyone asked about your morning, and they were going to just now, so I figured this would be better…” The soccer player looks away and blushes while reaching to scratch at his neck nervously.
You bite back a smile at how awkwardly adorable he is. “No, I appreciate it, and this morning too. It’s far less embarrassing since you ‘confessed’ to me,” doing the air quote gesture as you say confess. You don’t pay attention as Isagi turns away with a hand to his face to hide his growing blush. His confession may have been sudden, but it was undoubtedly genuine, not that you ever needed to know.
“Now I’m a little bit less of a loser,” you laugh at yourself before continuing, “You really don’t need to follow through with fake dating me. We can pretend to go on one date and then break up publicly.”
Oh. While Yoichi understood, he wanted to fake date you for just a little while. It would be the closest he would get to actually dating you. “It might be a little unrealistic if we break up so soon. After declaring my love for you, maybe 2 weeks is good? Plus, it will make that loser you confessed to look stupid for turning you down.” He can’t look at you in case you refuse his proposal. So he stabs the rolled omelets packed in his lunch.
“If you don’t mind, then I’m okay with that. I just don’t want to be a bother. I know the soccer team has some important games coming up.” You pick at your own lunch, now somehow nervous about him rejecting you after he had been the one to bring it up.
He wants to shout, you would never be a bother. But he composes himself, though hardly. “You should come to the games and practice. I think it would make it really seem like we’re dating.” Upon saying that, he realizes the many other things he’d like to do with you under the guise of dating. He stares blankly at his food as he imagines walking you home while he holds your hand.
You clap your hands, “We have to exchange numbers! Do you have your phone on you?” Isagi shakes his head. He had left his phone beyond to prioritize you and his lunch. You pull out your phone and open it to the contact before handing it over to him. “I’ll text you, so make sure you save my number.”
He enters his number and name before saving it. He hands it back, but he notices your frown. “Did I do something wrong?”
“I don’t think my boyfriend’s contact name should be just his name. Let me rename it.” You’re too focused to notice how he flushes at you calling him boyfriend. Yoichi waits as you tap your phone and then shove it in his face to show him. You’ve saved his name as ‘Yoi <3’, and he can see the text you’ve sent, ‘hi darling, it’s (y/n)! make sure you save my number’. He’s starting to wonder if you’re deliberately trying to kill him by being adorable.
“It’s almost time to go back, right?” Isagi asks you and stands before offering you a hand to get up. He smiles brightly down at you, and the thought crosses your mind that maybe you won’t mind fake dating him.
It’s been maybe two weeks since you started ‘dating’ Yoichi, and you can say that it’s actually pretty fun. You wait for him after your club is done, or he’ll wait for you when he finishes early; his teammates tease him either way. He walks you to the train station and texts you for homework between the jokes he sends.
Today Isagi has another soccer game that places the team closer to Nationals. Even though he was the one that mentioned that you should come at the beginning of the fake dating, he always tells you that you can go home on the days that he has games.
But over the two weeks of watching his practice and the occasional game, you’ve come to like watching his games. You know nothing about soccer, but he answers your questions, taking time to explain everything and anything you want to know.
You don’t shout for him like the first time you came to one of his games (he ran head-on into one of his teammates and got subbed out soon after), and instead, just watch from the cold metal bleachers. Even during the halftime break, you let Yoichi be so he can focus on winning the game. You know he wants to take the team to Nationals. It’s been a frequent topic of discussion over text and after games when he walks you to the station, so you know just how important every game leading up to it is.
You wait for another 45 minutes as the second half plays out. The score has been tied and stays that way for most of the remaining half. You recognize the different strategies Isagi had pointed out during his practice, the triangle formation as he passes to his teammates and makes a run towards the goal. Seeing the ball rolls into the 18-yard box, you move to the edge of your seat. It’s the most promising chance you’ve seen during this second half as Isagi’s teammate notices the run Yoichi made and passes. Almost effortlessly, he’s able to score. The opposing goalkeeper’s vision is blocked by his defenders allowing Yoichi to shoot the ball right into the top corner.
You cheer, and immediately Yoichi’s head whips around to find you. He smiles and waves with both hands over his head before his teammates clamor around him. The team celebrates the goal and resets to fend off the opposing team as the clock ticks down. You’re not overly anxious about the game itself, but you’re itching for it to end so you can go down and congratulate Yoichi on his game-winning goal.
The referee signals the additional time in the match, and you make your way down the bleachers to reach Yoichi as soon as the game is called. The final whistle blows, and your school’s team rushes the field to celebrate being a win closer to Nationals.
You wait on the sideline for him, not in any hurry to break him away from the team. But he finds you, well, he’s been pushed over by his teammates. He’s sweaty, flushed, and heaving, but still, he has the energy to smile widely at you.
You mirror his smile, aware of the many eyes on you. “I think you’re teaching has been paying off because I can tell you did really good! Congrats on the goal too.”
His teammates ‘ooh’ at your words and make kissy sounds around you. Soon Yoichi is being pushed again so that he’s mere inches away from you as the surrounding members of the soccer team start to chant ‘kiss’. Yoichi tries to tell them off, making excuses that he’s sweaty and it would make for a bad first kiss between you two. The team is relentless though, and the few inches that had been granted before are taken away.
You’re pushed into him with no room to push away. Yoichi’s jersey is sticky with sweat, and his hair sticks to his forehead. He whispers a sorry before he places a hand on your face and kisses you.
His teammates go wild at the display of affection and finally break away to yell about Yoichi getting some. Little do they know there was no kiss.
Yoichi places his forehead on yours, noses almost touching, and sighs like he actually did kiss you. He moves the thumb that impeded your kiss to where his other fingers rest on your face. He whispers, “Sorry. I have to go, but wait for me, and I’ll walk you to the station.” He backs away and goes toward the bench to listen to his coach.
You stand, flustered, as you bring your hand to where Yoichi’s hand has been and feel how hot your cheeks are. But more than anything, you’re wishing he hadn’t put his thumb on your lips.
True to his word, Yoichi walks you to the train station like he always does. He carries your bag and offers up his warm-up jacket since it’s dark, ever the gentleman. It’s a bit awkward on the walk to the station, neither of you wants to address the almost-kiss that happened.
But that doesn’t matter when you reach the train station. “I think we should ‘break up’.” He does air quotes around break up, much like you had when talking about his confession. “It’s been 2 weeks now. I think everyone’s forgotten what happened.”
Oh. This is why he didn’t kiss you.
You feel your stomach sink, but if this is what he wanted then you’d do it. “Oh! I didn’t realize it’d been 2 weeks already. If that’s what you want then sure we can end our pretend relationship.”
He doesn’t say anything, but hands you your bag. Before you grab it, you move to take off his jacket. “You can just give it to me tomorrow.” You stare at him, but he can’t meet your gaze. He stretches his arm further so you can take your bag, clearly, he wants to leave.
“Ok.” You take your bag and as soon as he can feel that you have it, he turns and leaves. Your relationship was fake, so why did it hurt so bad when he asked to break up?
You go home, in his jacket, and wait for a text that never comes. Normally, Yoichi texts to make sure you’ve made it home but the screen doesn’t light up no matter how much you stare at it.
Yoichi’s jacket is draped over your desk chair, the sight of it makes you frown. There are lots of questions you have about what happened and why it happened the way it did, but it wasn’t real which somehow makes it so much worse.
You throw the jacket in the wash, so you can return it tomorrow. You check your phone again, but of course, there’s nothing.
Similarly, Yoichi stares at his phone, thumb hovering over the send button. The text he wants to send is a normal one, something he wouldn’t hesitate to send just yesterday.
The worst thing he thinks about him breaking up with you was the time and space you once occupied in the name of keeping up appearances would be void. Just a few hours later and he’s already missing you.
But Yoichi knew that continuing to fake date you was selfish of him. He’s not selfish, even on the field, but he wants to be. But he doesn’t want to keep you from pursuing someone you genuinely liked, that’s not fair. (Even though he hopes it would be him.)
Though the way you seemed surprised when he told you it had been two weeks, the way you had said ‘if that’s what you want’, even hesitating just slightly to take your bag from him, it meant something, right?
He groans and tosses his phone aside, trying to distract himself from overthinking the situation. He did not need to give himself false hopes and delusions that you were upset over this like he was.
It’s the first time in two weeks that nobody greets you at the front gate. Yoichi is usually at the school early for morning practice and even when the team doesn’t he still arrives early to walk you to the shoe locker.
He’s not in his seat when you enter, so you leave a plastic bag with his folded jacket inside on top of his desk. He comes in unusually late, apologizing to the teacher several times and explaining there had been morning practice.
Some small optimistic part of you wants to think that maybe he would have walked you to the shoe locker had his practice not run late, but realistically you know he’s probably ready to run away like he had at the train station yesterday.
You put your head down on the desk and don’t pay attention to the lecturing of the teacher.
You thought that habits took 30 days to form, so why did 2 stupid weeks affect you this much? It’s been 3 days of school now and you find yourself at every turn looking for Isagi.
When it's time for lunch you instinctively look back to find him so you can have lunch together, but he’s already out the door. You try to suppress the automatic urge you have to find Isagi any time there’s a second of free time in your schedule. But still, you somehow find yourself at the metal bleachers of the soccer field once again.
Once you fully register the automatic decisions your body has made you try to leave. It was awkward enough that Isagi made it a fairly obvious point to avoid you. The metal creaks every time you move, but you try moving slowly to avoid detection.
Luck is not on your side as their coach calls for a water break and the whole team turns to face the bleacher you are currently trying to leave. They all recognize you, after your ‘kiss’ they’d be stupid not to, and so they shout their greetings and call out Isagi for making you wait through the practice.
You sit back down and wave, there’s no way you can leave now. And you don’t want to cause Isagi trouble by having his teammates grill him on a nonexistent relationship. So you wait.
The sun begins to set and practice ends. You wait for Yoichi, so things don’t seem amiss to his teammates. He walks with you wordlessly to the train station like it’s a habit for him too. And you end up at the same spot you did just 4 days ago when he decided to ‘break up’ with you.
You want to apologize for making him walk you to the station, but the way he looks in the blazing orange light seems to make your mouth say all the words your mind is thinking. “I miss you. I miss your texts and greeting you in the morning. I miss eating lunch together. I miss being your friend.” As soon as you say it, you know friend is not the right word, but what is?
“I’m sorry, (Y/n), but I can’t be friends with you.” He leaves the ‘I want to be so much more’ unsaid.
You immediately jump to question him, “Why? Do you not feel this gaping hole of emptiness too?”
“What?” His eyebrows furrow in either shock or confusion, he certainly couldn’t say.
“I’m constantly feeling like I need you by my side. I look for you every single moment of spare time. I want to be close to you, I want to see you, I want to read your texts, and send you homework answers. I want you, Yoichi.” You take a staggered breath in and your heart beats loud in your ears. Oh, you know what word to use now. “Yoichi, I want you to be my boyfriend, for real this time.”
He stays silent longer than you would like, but you stay hopeful. Looking back at your fake relationship there was no way he didn’t reciprocate. All the things he had suggested in the name of appearances was proof enough for you.
“Really?” Is the only thing he asks. You nod vigorously now that you’ve figured out your feelings. A smile starts to make its way into his face, but he brings up a hand to cover it along with the growing blush. He squats and pumps his fist as he shouts, “Yes!”
You’re a bit shocked at his sudden reaction, but happy he’s reacting in such a positive manner. He stands back up again and places his hand on your shoulders. “Do you know how long I’ve liked you? I mean, god, (Y/n), this is-” He can’t even finish his sentence because he’s laughing and resting his head on your shoulder.
You brush your hand over the back of his head, smoothing over the hair. He holds onto the hand as his head snaps up. He looks at you with a soft expression, one you’re sure he did while you fake dated.
“Can I kiss you?” He gives you a lopsided smile before adding, “For real this time.” No doubt teasing you for earlier.
You roll your eyes and grab the collar of his jacket, pulling him close for you to whisper on his lips, “Kiss me.” And he does.
The next day he walks into school with your hand in his.
I LOVE THESE TWO SM
[ mikage reo ]
you sat across from the famous football player, staring at him blankly as he slurped the last few drop of his iced coffee obnoxiously, staring back at you almost as if he was trying to annoy you. after finally being done and letting out a loud annoying sigh, he blinked. “hi.”
you shut your eyes for a brief second, taking in a deep breath while trying not to come up with at least fifty ways to murder him as you attempted to fully register the situation. “nagi, it’s three in the morning.”
“mhm.”
“i haven’t spoken to you in years. why are you here?”
“i had a fight with reo.” he said bluntly, moving the straw around his cup. the ice moved inside loudly, only testing your patience further. he seemed as if he was done talking, but the sharp look you gave him made him pout and before he continued, finally stopping the noise. “we live together, i couldn’t stay with him.”
“and you decided that instead of staying with any of your friends, isagi, chigiri, barou, bachira— you decided to pack, somehow track me down and come over without notice?”
“i couldn’t stay at any of their homes,” he rolled his eyes as if you were the idiot. “let me explain this, [y/n]. when a kid has divorced parents and he fights with one of them, he goes to stay with the other.”
you needed a cigarette and you didn’t even fucking smoke.
“…did you just say that mikage and i are your divorced parents?” you asked, bewildered. he nodded casually, leaning his palm on one hand as he stared at you. you leaned back, massaging your temples in pure frustration. “are all football players this insane?”
“probably.” he shrugged. “i also forgot my phone and wallet, so you will have to pay for me until i decide to go back. oh, speaking off, can we order takeout? i’m really hungry.”
“nagi.”
“…yes?”
“get the fuck to bed.”
his eyes seemed to fill up with amusement despite the dramatic sigh he let out as he got up, staring at you expectantly. you gestured to the room at the end of the hallway and he nodded, poking his tongue out before he walked away.
you passed out at the kitchen table that day, wondering what the fuck to do with the man child in your guest room, and woke up the next morning by someone poking your cheek. “[y/n]. [y/n]. [y/n]. [y/n]. [y/—“
“say my name one more time and i am disowning you,” you muttered blankly, voice thick with sleep as you buried your face deeper into your arms. you heard him snort, but you ignored it, sighing. “what?”
“i ordered takeout because i can’t make breakfast and i didn’t want you to kill me if i woke you up to cook. where’s your wallet?”
you pushed yourself up with a light groan, looking around until your eyes fell on the backpack you usually took to your college. you gestured there vaguely and he immediately dragged himself towards it, pulling it open harshly before he grabbed your wallet, frowning. “this is an ugly wallet.”
“die.”
“you’re a very bad parent.” he hummed. you narrowed your eyes at him as he pulled the door open and paid, accepting two pizza boxes before he mumbled a ‘thank you’ and shut the door quietly, looking towards you after. “wanna join for breakfast?”
you sighed, pushing your aching body up. “why not?”
after you two silently ate while he intensely watched a full two-hour youtube video about all possible theories behind his favorite game, you finally turned to him. “i have three questions.”
he blinked. “only three? you’re a changed person. what are they?”
you rolled his eyes. “one, when are you planning to return?”
“you could at least pretend you’re happy to see your ex-boyfriend’s best friend after years.” he muttered, sulking, before sighing. “friday night, we have a match saturday morning.”
you nodded slowly, then paused. “how are you planning to piss mikage off if he doesn’t even know where you are?”
he blinked. “oh, i didn’t think about that. give me your phone, i’ll send him a photo of us together.”
“i don’t have his number.” you informed blankly. he raised his eyebrows, and you raised one in response. “what?”
“he still have your number saved in his favorites with, like, a million heart emojis. you’re cruel.” he muttered monotonously, snatching your phone either way. you watched closely as he opened instagram and logged into his private account before he leaned into you, poking his tongue out as he snapped a picture. you poked your tongue out as well just to humor him, both your faces blank, and you snorted when you saw his caption.
like parent like son.
“last question.” you hummed. he groaned loudly, and you raised an eyebrow. “just one and i’ll let you stay over without complaining for the next few days.”
“shoot.”
“what was the fight about?”
he paused for a second, two, three, then, “i don’t want to talk about it.”
you stared at him for a few seconds, then sighed, glancing at your watch. “okay. i have to get ready for college, so make yourself at home, i guess.”
he seemed surprised that you let go of it, but you didn’t overthink it, getting up and going to your room. god, you needed a hot, long shower. after getting everything ready and so, you walked back out into the living room, where nagi was watching another game analysis video on your TV. yet, he seemed to be sulking a little more, and you sighed at your own words in advance.
“hey, nagi, wanna sneak into my college and attend classes with me?”
“sounds like a hassle.” he deadpanned, glancing up. you hummed, turning around, before a thud echoed as he rolled off the couch, followed by a groan. “hold on, i’m in.”
you snorted.
before you realized, it was friday morning, and as much as you hated to admit, you were going to miss nagi. you two had gotten close when you were dating reo and tended to pull a lot of all nighters together playing nagi’s favorite games, which got you really close. however, after the breakup, reo had really pulled back and cut off all contact, which you guessed had included nagi as well when the taller player stopped talking to you.
“morning,” nagi yawned tiredly as he walked into the kitchen, where you sat on your phone, greeting him with a hum. “oh, did you pack your bags already?”
you blinked, pausing, before you looked up. “what?”
he blinked back. “did i forgot to tell you? you’re coming with me.”
“what?” you hissed, eyes wide. “what do you— i’m not going with you.”
“i already have your ticket, don’t let me get a refund!” he whined, slumping across of you. “i got it when i booked mine.”
“and you are just telling me now?”
“i forgot.” he deadpanned. “now go pack.”
“i have college.”
“you told me you have a week-long break. go pack.”
“i’m not staying with you.”
“i’ll book a suite for you in the most expensive hotel, just please go pack!”
“…i fucking hate you.” you muttered, pushing yourself up before placing a plate in front of him. he took a huge bite as you walked away, and you could hear him hum at the taste before talking.
“love you too!” he yelled back.
that night, after you two got on the plane, he decided to inform you that he had also got you a vip ticket for the game the next day, and he was so lucky you couldn’t murder him with that much witnesses around.
you had the same feeling as you watched the players walk into the field on saturday night, sipping on your drink while waiting trying to calm your nerves. it had been years since you saw reo, and you were definitely not ready to see him again. you would be lying if you said you didn’t put effort into your appearance for the night, but who wouldn’t?
before you could completely prepare yourself, your eyes fell on an annoyingly familiar mop of purple hair, angrily whispering something to nagi. nagi gave him one of his famous blank looks before he turned around and met your eyes, and you immediately glared at him.
‘do not!’ you mouthed clearly, well aware that he could see it, and his lips only twitched up before he nonchalantly pointed in your direction, and you glared at him.
that fucking traitor.
reo turned around in an alarming speed, eyes wide as he did so, searching the crowd almost desperately before his eyes fell on you. you had managed to compose yourself enough to go back to looking bored, offering him a lazy wave when your eyes met, and he only turned back quickly towards nagi, waving around vaguely as he said something that caused his team members to all look at him, eyes wide.
chigiri asked something and nagi pointed back at you, and you swore you could cut his damn finger off if you could as almost the entire team turned to you in sync, eyes wide, and you offered a peace sign this time, face blank as you poked your tongue out.
the only one who saw the humor in this was nagi, who snorted and immediately got smacked by reo, who was sharply avoiding looking in your direction. they all offered bewildered waves and you turned back to sipping on your drink, waiting for the stupid match to end so you can get back to your hotel.
they won, fucking of course, and you immediately slipped out, shooting nagi a text once you made it back to the hotel congratulating him. you got a simple ‘:x’ back and snorted, decided to take a relaxing bath before going to grab a coffee for yourself.
and so, hours later, you were finally ready, dressed nicely and humming quietly as you grabbed your phone and wallet, pausing once a familiar voice echoed in the hallway. you walked towards the door, quietly pressing your ear against it, and heard someone suck in a sharp breath. “you can do it, you can do it. this will go okay, you can totally fucking do this, you can—“
you shut your eyes and breathed in deeply as an attempt to calm yourself down before opening the door, eyes immediately meeting widening purple ones as reo stilled. it was silent for a few seconds until reo took a step back, forcing on a practiced smile that you easily knew was fake.
“hi,” he spoke, voice smoother than you had remembered, and held a bouquet of white roses. you arched an eyebrow, face still blank as you accepted it, and he laughed awkwardly, shifting on his feet. “apology on nagi’s behalf.”
“it’s okay.” you responded calmly, carefully setting them aside. “couldn’t leave my child, after all.”
he cracked an awkward smile, but remained silent until you glanced back at him, and he gestured to your outfit. “going, uh, somewhere?”
“coffee.” you replied bluntly, and then internally grimaced, sighing before you spoke again, already regretting your words. “…would you like to tag along?”
“yes.” he agreed eagerly, then paused, skin tinting just the slightest. “i mean, uh, if you would like me to. i don’t mean i don’t want to, i do, but only if you—“
you would be a huge liar if you deny how you enjoyed being one of the very few people who can get reo to break his collected, charming rich boy filter. “reo?”
he immediately shut up, blinking, and you couldn’t help but think about how he resembled a lost puppy. “yeah?”
“let’s go.”
(you, later that night, shot nagi a reluctant ‘thank you’ text, one he responded with a ‘:p’ in reply for before casually informing you that there was no argument, just a small disagreement about reo being too much of a cowards to reach out and that he was just bored. you unsent your ‘thank you’, and he sent a ‘bad parenting :c’ back.)
