Guys I'm going insane the first chapter of the first light novel is so much foreshadowing it shows so much of the end of the manga, especially ch. 268. Even the baptismff is mentioned. And after that, or even Gojo's unsealing. How Megumi feels with Hana. I'm screaming.
I'm keeping my light novel meta blog @hermit-reads just for adding information not in the anime or manga, so I came here to vent since we've all been spoiled.
Anyway the book is v enjoyable, it's so funny. Megumi's like, this idiot has such awful taste I can no longer be surprised he ate sukuna's finger.
It also makes me feel like no fic I've written or read exaggerates Yuuji's characterization. So that's... Weirdly validating. Like I almost felt bad for him but no he IS JUST so easy to write that way bc he is that way.
Wait does the fact that they're all younger mean that they chose south
I'd been thinking the airport is where they hang out before moving on to the afterlife
with go north meaning to be reborn and go south meaning to return to your old self- we know that gojo chose to go south. But the fact he sees getou there means that the man also chose to return to his old self. And that strikes me as a type of remorse and regret thats oddly kind of tragic even those its kind of consoling at the same time.

The shrine maiden possibly being Angel never crossed my mind.........
Also this jp youtuber also theorized that sukuna met uraume in the same circumstances as when geto met mimiko and nanako......

Also, why did Uraume have to incarnate to a woman's body?? I hope it's not because of Kenjaku's shenanigans........ 'cause if it is, I understand now why Uraume don't want them (Kenjaku) near them (Uraume) and Sukuna lmao
[anime-only friendly]
How old is that seance curse user we saw in Shibuya?
I never really thought about it but... Does she have potential to be Kenjaku old?
This post brought to you by... I had a dream where I met Gege and said "it's okay if you don't have an answer. I've been through jjk 12 times and cannot figure out how old she is." once again analyzing jjk in my sleep, coming up w things my conscious brain would not be thinking.
I've given her and the other old curse user in shibuya the least amount of thought bc they creep me out so bad. But now that I'm thinking about it...
The two of them show a duality of evil that really stems from disrespect of autonomy.
Her CT made it easy... But she also preyed on boys, kidnapping and grooming them as her "grandson". The one we see is not the first. So she has to be superhumanly old, right?
And old dude with the inverse CT - That really has no way to invade the autonomy of others. But he certainly thrives in doing it anyway, torturing people to death for no reason but "practice" bc his job is to kill people and he has to be good at it. As if all that was necessary. (this is, I think, the anime's most disturbing scene)
It's also interesting how Gojo's birth was blamed for cursed spirits becoming stronger, but these faces of evil has hidden away because of his presence. Like Satoru's life itself was a protective seal.

Y’all are wrong about this woman. Sukuna’s two options were helping Uraume transition or becoming a girl himself.

love is embracing what was a curse
ok guys this time Gojo will definitely come back I'm not delusional I swear guys pLEASE LISTEN TO ME GUYS-
I've been given a physical copy of the first light novel. Its margins are wide. Ink bleeds not through the pages. It begs for annotations.
For the sake of all our sanity, I will be sharing details from it to a side blog, @hermit-reads.
If you want to read the book without searching up every reference to an unfamiliar Japanese thing, I got you.
If you got the super autism jjk fever and crave petty meta analysis, I got you.
And if you don't want to hear about the light novel, dw, I should be able to keep it off of this blog.

Ok so we get itafushi, we get miwamaru, etc. in this page. It seems to be telling of relationships.
And Ui Ui / Mei Mei...
Ui Ui's arm - it looks like he's trying to break away from someone. Higuruma? Is Ui Ui... Struggling w the complicated messy feelings that arise when you begin to accept that you've been abused, but it's so hard when you've been groomed for so long and you don't want to face that reality?
Mei is on the opposite side of the page. She and her brother could not be further apart. Her eyes are closed, and she's smiling the way she does when exploiting people for money. Maybe her subscription service ambition was given to Mei as a distraction - to focus on that instead of exploiting her brother.
Maybe we didn't need Geto to come back to life and kill her - I really overlooked Hiromi and his sense of justice, haven't I? Mei probably thinks that she can get out of any scandal, as long as she has money. She isn't facing anyone, and no one is looking at her. Shoko is looking up at nothing, pretending she isn't there.
It looks like Hiromi's also facing Gakuganji - he's keeping watch over jujutsu headquarters and the victims. I love him so much. Looking back now, Hiromi rly is the next generation Geto - protecting the innocent without discriminating. Oh, you're in a position of power to exploit the weak? He'll kill you anyway. Good luck.
Also shokohime seems like.... There? Shoko's looking off in the distance like she's happy, waiting and giving privacy. She's facing Utahime, whose arm is reached out toward Shoko and to her student that she has to worry about first.
Idk what's up with Ino, or if Inumaki is looking at the reader.
And who are the two people in the back, that you can't rly see? Thought one was Todo but he's already on there. (edit: my friend says one is Hajime Kashimo, & they're right. I guess the other is Haibara, or maybe the sugar CT guy... Oh god is the jacket most like Junpei's?) Though it could just mean there are more strong and intelligent allies than we know.
Here's my reaction to the end of the manga btw (forgot this page was part of 271 smh)

the ending was foreshadowed, kinda sorta, in a roundaboutway.

I caved and read ch. 271.... This is my jjk ending reaction post
SO WHO WAS THAT WITH TAKABA????
Yesterday I reread the last chapters, and the latest translation makes them sound less out of character. More based in reality. As well as other moments that can easily be explained within grounded reality (like Hiromi's arm not being fully healed - that makes sense. It was cut off with Sukuna's CT, and Higuruma JUST learned RCT in that moment. Even if he's on par with Gojo, who was up against Toji's cursed tool as the only curse... Sukuna's CE is so dense that Todo's technique couldn't even reach Choso - who is half curse, and within range - or Yuuji (which would make sense bc he and Sukuna are basically twins and Yuuji's been steeped in his CE). So maybe Hiromi could grow an arm back, but it isn't perfect, and it wasn't life-threatening. If Shoko had to prioritize her RCT, which is likely bc Rika was needed to heal Yuuta's body, then Hiromi's arm was on the back burner). And regarding the RikaBus - originally I imagined her insides, zipped open like her weapon storage we saw in the culling games, but to supply electricity to the TVs. Now, I think she might have eaten a part of Hajime Kashimo in order to do this. Idk man
But there are continuity errors and idiosyncraties. I still think the dream theory was valid - just like Yuuta/Gojo's domain's barrier was left floating around, I think Yuuji's shifted them into the curse rift between dreams and reality, but it wore off with time. His domain's focus on sightseeing and Sukuna's muscle memory of a barrierless domain (as well as Yuuji's in experience with domains, and barriers in general until his replacement training) make this more likely to project further.
This dreamlike effect could also be caused by the merger. A condition of it seems to be having absorbed Tengen - which Sukuna had to do, after Kenjaku. They were using Tengen to create / empower the merger, and this control was officially given to Megumi, as he was the vessel. Something interesting could have happened if Tengen had clung onto him as the most stable host, but their remains were found in Sukuna's. So... (depending on the language used, maybe some of Tengen is still in him and he has some power from it) it seems the merger is not going to be completed. But we don't know what the merger would really look like - even kenjaku with his thousand years of jujutsu knowledge and experience couldn't guess. So I think it's only fair to play into the dream stuff that he mentioned to Sasaki while working toward that.
So whether it was residue from Yuuji's domain (let's not forget that Kenjaku was actually pregnant with him, and he ate all those death painting wombs that had kenjaku's blood from another body, and blood connections are a thing especially when blood manipulation CT is involved), the merger, or a combination, the dream state is fading back to reality (but what does this mean for Takaba's partner??).
Actually - hear me out - during the time Tengen was out. Between the time when Sukuna left Megumi, and when Tengen's remains were placed at the barrier - were the dreamlike qualities limited to this era? I can read again and look for things but I'm not the most observant when it comes to those details. It might also take a short time to shift things back into place once Tengen is back to restore the barriers. So any input here is appreciated.
We did get enough closure on the merger (as much as I wish Sukuna got to fight it). while some people were already becoming cursed spirits, they're gathering in Tokyo. The katana and sumo otakus are there. And since cursed energy is directed at Tokyo to such an extent, it seems that our sorcerers get to have some fun, low-risk missions. Which is so sweet, I'm glad to see it.
And while we don't know whether the reincarnated sorcerers can be stripped from their vessels, it seems like they're going to try - I imagine this is in Gakuganji's hands, and not certain that it will work or even be attempted.
Ultimately I feel like. Insane and gaslighted that my theories which had a lot of foreshadowing (I thought anyway) haven't happened. (Gojo returning and the last panel shows him as sukuna's vessel) But they still could. Well, to some extent at least (rip sukuna idk if that one injured fingie could bring you back but you got your peace and I'm happy for you).
.... I still think that Geto and Gojo could come back. Geto might be back, idk. Maybe takaba just found someone who looked like him.... Maybe it was a temporary effect of the dream scatter.
I'm not desperate for them to, I'm not insisting that they would (I've always been in denial that Geto would stay dead lmao). But the TIMING of when we saw the sugar-creating CT, along w the fsct that GOJO was the one always eating sugar for his brain, had me convinced that he was going to return. I... Honestly suspect that he could be back, but taking a much-needed rest. Faking his death until he's ready to reveal himself. Not to mention the clock theories on Gojo and Sukuna returning.
But I don't need them to come back. I really did like the last chapter (though I rly thought takaba & Geto were behind the momotaro eyes smh).
Sukuna's afterlife scene - though we didn't see him visit the airport (I wish Gojo got to see true form sukuna, that's his wife). Sukuna had Uraume with him, and they were able to face Mahito in passing, and leave him behind. We see Sukuna engage in physical contact for the first time, outside of violence (the only consensual form he seemed to be granted in life).
The chapter still feels short like something is missing but, whatever. We got the first years' chaos, we got post-prison realm Gojo, also the curse victim's character design is so?? I love her.
So my unresolved questions are - who is with takaba?
And

Who is on the left behind sukuna?
If anyone has some context by the clothing, please let me know.
But for how, I'm going with that being Uraume, showing their two paths. Afaik we only see Uraume with white hair during the Heian era - but on my 4th read, I'll be looking for this person.
It makes more sense to show one person's potential outcomes here than for it to be about Sukuna choosing one person or another. I can say with certainty that is not Yorozu (I doubt she ever wore clothing so properly).
The posture, hair etc. resembles Uraume more than anyone, I think. This is about their possible paths. The left one might be the role they took after Sukuna mummified, or maybe they could have grown taller if they didn't trade it for something in a pact, like seeing Sukuna again in the future.
Uraume might have had an older sibling. Choso's speech about little brothers benefiting from the older brother's path, either to follow the right path or to avoid the wrong one he takes, comes to mind. I always felt like that was out of place, the same way "Yuuta Okkotsu can't become the next Satoru Gojo" became relevant later.
The changes in art style, I realize now, were very intentional as well and I've been hoping they translate into the anime. It's all to evoke certain emotional, mental states in the reader, to match that of the story.
Damn I forgot to react to the colored page.... Tldr, it gave us closure on Ui Ui / Mei Mei, and Higuruma Hiromi could be my favorite surviving character. He's the next Geto and the next Gojo.
I hope gege takes at least six months off to just rest and do whatever he wants to and recover.
And then I hope that he gets a jjk sequel or prequel series announced (that won't be censored)
But chapters come out once a month
Oh, and...
It seems I have been in denial.
Uraume rly just turned to dust bc sukuna disappeared.
If Sukuna actually dies, then he would make an appearance at the airport.
Have a conversation with Gojo before he returns to his body.
And Gojo would have Sukuna's consent to eat his last fingie (or something)
Bruh I kept saying that based on the hydrangea appearances and their connection to the amacha bath, that Yuuji would basically be giving Megumi a baptism...

So how did I miss sukuna saying that Yuuji's CT breathed life into him??
Ok new theory on the last dreamlike chapters bc I can't believe that they are not real - but like Kenjaku said, in the rift between dreams and reality, the cursed realm or whatever -
Yuuji's domain... I think it leaked out (even Yuuta had issues when the barrier broke after he hollow purpled the barrier on Gojo's domain, and he had training). This was Itadori's first time using domain expansion - and he has Sukuna's barrierless domain muscle memory.
Just like the way Sukuna appeared as Yujikuna or as his true form, Yuuji and Megumi's scars and fingers keep changing (I think it's based on the way they perceive each other).
Hello everyone I may have found more itafushi propaganda.
So in ch. 266, Fushiguro and Yuuji have that heart to heart conversation about life, dreams and suffering.

And ducks get a weird amount of screen time. That has to mean something, yeah?

They even come out of the manga panels - which I've grown to believe means that they feel like something inevitable, that will reach you (based on Mahito and Sukuna's hands, I think it's a design choice to illicit emotion in the reader).
So I looked up Japanese symbolism for ducks...
Transformation. Purification. Metamorphosis. Marital happiness. Nurturing and bonding. Good luck, emotional stability, that sort of thing.
These meanings remind me of the hydrangea flowers and how they could be suggesting amacha, a ritual bath for Buddhist statues. How megumi's drink in the culling games had that label.
Wait. Then it immediately goes into Itadori's curiosity about Akibahara being impossible to repress
Because it's a dreamlike place
Cosplayers, maid cafés, giant robots on foreign vehicles, video game characters, bright advertisements, etc. that make it feel like a theme park
He says he wants to go for the sight-seeing - which is foreshadowing ch. 265??
I am losing my goddamn mind and I'm only on like. Page 2
Edit to add: light novel analysis posting is now limited to @hermit-reads
One page into the first light novel and I have to look up 10 things (bc I need to find the clues gege is hiding lmao) but
I'm going to do more research on Masakado because he sounds a lot like Sukuna, and reminds me of reading about an irl shrine that is likely for him (I cannot remember the name of it though).

Update: light novel meta analysis gets its own blog, @hermit-reads
Something else important about ch269 is that: everyone affected has a chance to speak their truth. Vent. Apologise. Offer forgiveness. Express regret. Share whatever it is on their mind or weighing on their hearts.
In modern terms, it’s called a “debrief”.
It helps reduce the impact of psychological and emotional trauma, through improving not only the communication and understanding between people, but also the underlying feeling of connectedness to one another.
This, promoting: Unity, cohesion, belonging.
Things the older generation didn’t have.
They didn’t even clean up the blood of Riko and Geto on the floor, ffs. They had over 10 years to do it.
Although the cycle of sorcery & curses may continue, the world is different because the young people who were fostered by the old generation are different. Blood sweat and tears, right? Gojo & Geto’s shared dream is coming true.
All the old folks who had their own interests at heart are now gone, people like Kusakabe who also prioritise the youth are at the helm of the ship.
There is hope...
