people need to learn that people may dislike something you like, and if seeing someone talk about how they dislike it makes you feel a bit sad, you can just, not listen. one of my favorite youtube channels (Brad Taste In Music) intensely dislikes a band i personally enjoy. so what do i do? i just skip it whenever he brings it up. no harm no foul.

Alexander: My mother is dead to me.

Laurens: what’d she do

This is the first time I’m explaining it in detail so please bear with me.

The musical is called “The Sharing Circle”

The story follows Raymond, a psychologist who creates a sharing circle, meant to help people who have lost someone in their lives. The show follows how all the members of the circle recover from their loss and form new bonds (this is so cheesy omg)

So, um, lets explain the characters:

Raymond:

As I already explained, Raymond is a psychologist who forms a sharing circle to help people cope with great loss. He has never personally lost anyone, though, but that doesn’t stop him from trying to connect with the characters. He is an African-American pansexual man, who is married to Patty.

Speaking of Patty

Patty:

Patty is Raymond’s wife. She is an African-American trans woman. She started dating Raymond even before her coming out, and he has been by her side for her entire transition process. She is already fully transitioned and is living a happy life with Ray. She works as an interior designer. She is meant to be the Michael Mell of the musical, the charismatic, nice, cute character everyone loves.

It will make what happens at the end of act 1 more painful

Next: the circle members

Trevor:

Trevor is actually my favorite character. He is an openly gay man, who lost his boyfriend to cancer. He arrives to the circle, at first very closed off. After he’s asked to tell his boyfriend’s story, he finally opens up and explains how his love for hisboyfriend helped him a lot with his mental health, and how that caused his death to take an even bigger toll on his mental state (he has depression). He then meets Mike, whooooooo:

Mike:

Mike has been in the circle the most time. He lost both his wife and his brother on a car accident. At first, he thinks he’s straight (he’s obviously not), that is until he meets Trevor. He and Trevor become friends aaaaaaaand eventually they hook up. After this, Mike discovers he’s bisexual. On the second act (that’s obviously depressing, what is a second act without the pain), Mike suffers the most because of rEASONS I WILL EXPLAIN LATER.

Hope:

Hope is an African-American 40 year old woman who lost her sister to racism. Her sister was pregnant when she was assaulted by a gang of white, rich, racist teenagers who killed her out of plain racism and stupidity. So, Hope, understandably, develops a big hatred towards the higher class white families in her city. This is challenged when the next character, Octavia, enters.

Octavia:

Octavia is a teenage girl on her sophomore year of high school. She is part of one of these white, rich families, but is completely different from the teens that killed Hope’s sister. She is kind and understandig, and tolerates no kind of prejudice towards anyone. Her parents died when they both ran off and killed themselves, by throwing themselves off the Brooklyn bridge (the story develops on NYC, btw). Hope hates her at first but they develop their relationship but iM GRTTKNG AHEAD OF MYSELF. Also, I kinda want make Octavia so that she’s in the asexual spectrum, but Idk what specifically.

Alex:

Alex is the chill one of the group (alongside Corey BUT I HAVENT MENTIONED HIM YET SO). She is from Asian descent, and lost both her mother and her stepfather. She adored her stepfather, but he suffered from schizophrenia. In one of his schizophrenic episodes, he accidentally snapped Alex’s mother’s neck. Mortified by guilt, he kills himself. Alex says that she knows her stepfather didn’t mean to kill his mother, and doesn’t hate him for it, which helps her cope, seeing as she knows no one meant any harm, but she is still affected. She later becomes best friends with Corey.

Corey:

Corey is ALSO the chill one of the group (they are the only ones with some common sense left after the events of act 1). He lost his best friend to the electric chair (the guy was sentenced to death for a crime he didn’t commit, and when they found out it was too late). He is still coping with his friend’s death, but is in a better place than most of the characters. He ends up being Alex’s best friend. (I wanted it to be so that they’re only friends cuz I’m kinda tired that there can’t be a simple friendship between a straight man and a straight woman without them ending up together)

SO NOW THE STORY. (I’m just gonna explain little bits cuz I don’t wanna basically give you the entire show)

So y’all know how each show has a pre-show announcement, where they say ‘no recording devices bla bla’? Well, for the pre show announcement I kinda got inspired by the Kinky Boots announcement, where Don is just there talking on the phone and He subtly drops the announcement. So I decided to do something like that, but it’s just in the form of a voice message coming from off stage.

This is it:

Okay so, this is important.

Remember how I said Trevor lost his boyfriend to cancer?

Jack is Trevor’s boyfriend.

The ‘thing’ he wanted to tell Trevor was his diagnosis.

Is this sad enough

So anyway.

At first, the circle only has three people, Alex, Hope, and Mike.

Corey decides to go because he knows it’s the best way to cope

Octavia decides to go because it was recommended to her by her social worker

And Trevor is just forced to go by his mom.

So, on the first meeting with all six, Octavia arrives late, so Ray decides to start introducing Trevor.

Trevor then talks about Jack. He talks how Jack helped him a lot with his mental health, understanding him perfectly and staying by his side every step of the way. So you can obviously tell how badly Jack’s death left him.

Okay, so after that moment (which is obviously done in song, duh) Octavia arrives. This affects Hope, and she runs off. Ray follows her and tells her to at least give Octavia the benefit of the doubt. She then sings the story of her sister’s death.

Well, the meeting ends and everyone is Sad™️

Except Alex and Corey.

I love these two dumbasses

They meet up at a bar, and talk about the people who they lost. They both bond over the fact that they’re hopeful that they will get better, and become immediate friends.

Well anyway, stuff happens after that.

I just want to tell the Gay Moment™️ between Trevor and Mike.

So, Trevor and Mike have bonded and became friends. Sometime before, Mike mentioned to Trevor about starting a new relationship with someone. At first he completely denies the idea, but as time passes, he starts to think that maybe it could help.

So anyway, one day, it’s raining and Mike, being a dumbass, didn’t take his car and took an Uber. So he asks Trevor for a ride and Trevor (obviously not being in love) tells Mike if he wants to stay at his house. (See where I’m going?)

So they arrive to Trevor’s house and they talk and shit, and then Trevor asks if he can paint Mike (he’s an illustrator). Mike accepts and, for a while everything is Normal. That is, until Mike, by impulse, kisses Trevor. He panics and stands up to leave but Trevor stops him and they kiss again.

And then they hook up

Thats the gay moment.

SO NOW THE PART OF THE STORY IM EXCITED TO TELL.

Soooo, at the end of Act 1, Ray decides to take Patty on a date. They both start walking in the park, ant Ray sings to Patty, beliving their love will be for ever.

So ray goes over to a hot dog stand while Patty stays in the sidewalk.

But, out of nowhere, a stray car accidentally runs over Patty.

She dies

And Raymond finally experiences loss.

Mans he DOES NOT take it well.

He isolates in his apartment, and when the entire group comes to look for him, he snaps at them.

He yells about how his view in life was completely wrong, that nothing will ever fill the hole in his heart after Patty’s death

So, obviously everyone is affected, but not as affected as Mike. He runs away and basically cuts himself from any contact with anyone in the group.

The reason is, he relied much more on Ray’s words than any of the others, seeing as he was in the circle the most.

And then he turns to Alcohol to cope

AND THATS WHERE IM GONNA LEAVE IT HEHEHEHE

it’s just because Act 2 isn’t as developed as Act 1, just the ending
