I feel like I should introduce you all to the host of the show- The Clown! I want to try and animate them soon- but the whiteboard my lovely friend, @your-happy-fella, made has a lot of doodles of them! I feel like they'd prefer textures and pencils over pens/paint but we'll see! (Also, any pronouns work, that's what I meant by pro nouns)

HEY ARTISTS!
Do you design a lot of characters living in not-modern eras and youโre tired of combing through google for the perfect outfit references? Well I got good news for you kiddo, this website has you covered! Originally @modmad made a post about it, but her link stopped working and I managed to fix it, so hereโs a new post. Basically, this is a costume rental website for plays and stage shows and what not, they have outfits for several different decades from medieval to the 1980s. LOOK AT THIS SELECTION:

OPEN ANY CATEGORY AND OH LORDYโ

Thereโs a lot of really specific stuff in here, I design a lot of 1930s characters for my ask blog and with more chapters on the way for the game it belongs to Iโm gonna be designing more, and this website is going to be an invaluable reference. I hope this can be useful to my other fellow artists as well! :)

The Death ofย His Majestyย King George V
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
๐๐๐ธ๐๐พ๐๐พ๐๐ ๐ป๐๐ถ๐๐๐ฝ
George V had developed a lot of health problems after the First World War & it took a toll on him. George was injured on Thursday, October 28th, 1915 when he was thrown from a horse & he also developed Chronic Bronchitis from his heavy smoking addiction. 10 years later in 1925, he was sent on a cruise to the Mediterranean which was used to help him recuperate.ย
3 years later in 1929, he developed an illness called Sepsis, which is a life-threatening condition for when the bodyโs response to an infection causes injuries to both the tissues & the organs. The Kingโs body never recovered from years of illness & injury, so in last year of life, he was administered oxygen.
ย 6 years later, when Georgeโs sisterย Her Royal Highness The Princess Victoria died, it sent the King into a deep state of depression. 1 year after his sisterโs death on January 15th, 1936, George went to his bedroom at Sandringham House, complaining of a cold. The cold turned the Kingโs body for the worst, as he became weaker & would drift in & out of consciousness. Georgeโs nurse Catherine Black & physician Lord Dawson of Penn, gave him a sedative the night of his death which consisted of 3/4 gram of morphine & 1 gram of cocaine. The family did not approve of the injection but also did not want the Kingโs death to be painful & slow.ย
Declining Health & Lethal Injection
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
๐น๐๐๐๐๐ถ๐
As the Kingโs health declined, multiple close sources of the Kingโs came forward with updates on his decline.ย
The first source was Prime Minister Baldwin who wrote,ย โEach time he became conscious it was some kind inquiry or kind observation of someone, some words of gratitude for kindness shown. But he did say to his secretary when he sent for him: "How is the Empire?" An unusual phrase in that form, and the secretary said: "All is well, sir, with the Empire", and the King gave him a smile and relapsed once more into unconsciousness.โ
The second source was Lord Dawson of Penn (The Kingโs Physician) who issued a bulletin that hadย โThe King's life is moving peacefully towards its close,โ written on it. Lord Dawson also kept updates in journals with the Kingโs last words written in it which wereย โGod Damn You,โ which was said to his nurseย Catherine Black. He also said he wanted the injection to happen at night, so that the death of the King could make the morning edition of British Newspaper The Times.
British Pathรฉ News announced the Kingโs death, the next morning & described the King asย โMore than a King, a father of a great family.โ BBC Studios was next for the broadcast, as German composer Paul Hindemith & English Conductor Adrian Boult along with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, performed a Mourning Music that evening.

The night before the funeral, the Kingโs sonsโย His Royal Highnessย Edward The Duke of Windsor,ย His Majesty King George (Albert) VI, & His Royal Highnessย Henry The Duke of Gloucester, mounted theย Vigil of the Princes guard at the Catafalque. The sons did this in respect to their father who was now gone. The King was lied in state at Westminster Hall but was interred at St. Georgeโs Chapel at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, January 28th, 1936.ย

1920s Roger and Rouge anyone?

Rebellious girls in the 1920s wanted to anger and shock their Victorian-era parents, so not only would they bare their knees with short dresses, but they would also paint pictures to make sure an onlooker didnโt miss their risque hem length. Rolled stockings became a fad with the shorter hemlines, and girls would go get roses, butterflies, ocean scenes, or their dogsโ faces painted on their knees to further push their boundaries. Much like with most makeup in womenโs history, this wasnโt just an act of creativity, but an assertion of independence. After World War I, more women gained financial independence with work, broke away from chaperoned parlor dates, and became a part of the public by walking the city streets without a guardian. The new generation felt a need to express this clear break from the old era of Gibson Girls and Victorian women, and they did so with the help of paint and knee rouge. โBecause of rolled stockings and short skirts they, like their fair owners, are emancipated,โ The San Francisco Examinershared in 1925. The girls were no longer wearing the oppressive corsets of the previous generation, which is partly why rolled stockings became a fad โ there was nowhere to clip their hosiery to.
Painted knees were also an experiment in owning sexuality. Rouged knees would seem flushed (hinting at sex,) and painted knees would bring attention to body parts that were stigmatized just a few short decades back. But these moments of self-rule were oftentimes punished, as students in Ohio Northern learned in 1925. Girls had been drawing roses on their knees, and the dean called an emergency meeting to get them to stop. โIt was intimated that some of the professors had not been able to do their best work owing to the profusion of knees in certain classes, that it is difficult for a mere male instructor to think of the Einstein theory, for example, with a tastefully decorated knee โ well, staring him in the face, as it were,โ The San Francisco Examiner wrote. The fad eventually fell out of vogue, but it resurfaced again in the 1960s โ during an era where skirts rose in hemline, women pushed for independence, and embraced their sexual freedom once more. Painted knees were the perfect compliment to mini-skirts and Bermuda shorts, and a student interviewed for The News in 1966 said that she painted her knees so often that she could โput it on faster than face makeup.โ (source)
