My pirate ship would look like this, you know it would...
Ok, trailer analysis. It's time to put my Castle in the Sky knowledge to use. đŹ
1. I genuinely believe that Skyloft is inspired by the City Laputa. Example A
In the movie, in order to get to Laputa, you first had to survive a thunderstorm and two contrary hurricane wind directions. That protects the city from the outside world.
2. There is no thunder in the trailer, but there is a snowstorm with an ice boss battle. Having to go throw a storm is staying in theme with the story.
3. Plus, an airship that looks like a sea vessel and behind it is another cloud tower.
4. Also, in general, the Laputa Islands fleet aesthetic. That is spread throughout Hyrule sky.
I can't wait to play this game. Castle in the Sky was one of my favorite childhood movies. Now I get roam around in it. đ„ đ đŹ
What other comparisons to this or other fictional stories locations have you seen in TOTK?

IO Guard was ejected. IO Guard was not the imposter âđ
((I was glowing blue because my overshield had just recharged))
Some progress shots of the Christmas gift I made for my sister. A zeppelin purse. (It's not a blimp, it's a rigid airship.) I drew up the design and laid out the cutsheets in Rhino, then used a laser cutter to cut the leather. Then there was a lot of sewing to do. I also hadn't really been positive how everything would fit together before I started, so I had to undo a couple lines of stitching when I was unable to fit my hands in to sew the last couple of rows of stitching.
I'll post some photos of the finished bag, complete with sister, sometime in the next couple of days.
I did snag the idea from someone else on Etsy who makes figural bags out of felt. Here's the airship bag that gave me the idea.Â
The completed zeppelin purse I made as a gift for my sister. The purse itself is made of laser-cut leather, stained red, sewn together, and wet-formed to shape. The strap is a chainmail weave in stainless steel.
I'm planning on making another as a late Christmas gift for a friend. I don't know if I'll make more at some point to sell. I got the idea from this other airship bag, so currently I'm not sure how I would feel about that.
Here are some progress shots of the piece being assembled.
The - yet unnamed - Air Pirate Zeppelin on its virgin flight over Blake Sea. It went perfectly smooth, including people who were afraid we would shoot them :-D
First impressions of the new Zeppelin DZ-1 "Zephyr". Coming soon!
Some first pictures of the Professorâs steampunky (needless to mention really) Sim Never Drift. A lovely scenic floating village with fort, airship dock, lighthouse, pub - and a lot else to discover!
Currently Never Drift isnât open for public, but once the building is finished, access will be granted - stay tuned!
Drow Science - The Steam Awakens
Dieselpunk airplanes fantasy adventure is my favorite genre.
Why wouldnât I be making Super Mario Maker levels with all my spare time?
A couple of these were already posted here, but I included them anyway just to keep everything in one place. If you want to catch these levels as theyâre posted, check out my Twitter.
Iota (Part 1)
Pain greeted Ashiko from all sides as she rose into the world of the living. Freezing wind stung her face. Burning metal seared her back. Her bionic fingertips tingled despite having no built-in feeling. She pulled herself to her feet and steadied herself against the torn hull of a crashed airship. As her brain collected itself and registered what just happened, her duties returned to her mind.
Evander! I have to find him!
As the princeâs bodyguard, she had a contractual obligation to keep track of him. But her sense of duty wasnât what pulled her out of the knee-deep slush. She dragged her slippered feet through the snow, regaining control of her body with each step. Dark figures moved in the night, briefly silhouetted by flashes of blue and red. Crystals of refined Mistral Scoria that once held the airship aloft now flung snow high into the starless sky. She took her phone out of the pocket of her heavy winter cloak and tapped on the princeâs number. Through her swimming vision, she could make out two concerning words in the top corner of the screen: âNo Signal.â That was weird. She had a signal until the moment before the crash. The popping in her joints was almost gone when someone lunged out of the darkness at her. Ashiko ducked down and, using the attackerâs weight against them, tossed them over her shoulder and pinned them to the ground.
âWoah, woah, woah!â choked the figure, their voice strangled and shallow beneath Ashikoâs literal iron grip. A rising plume of billowing, smoky flames illuminated the figureâs features. A strong jaw, amber skin, and pointed ears. She immediately recognized him. He was one of the flighthands on the ship.
âSorry!â Ashiko said, immediately releasing her hold on the flighthandâs neck. He scrambled back, fearfully gazing up at her. âSorry, sorry.â She looked down at her phone. The princeâs number illuminated on the screen re-ignited her memory.Â
âThe prince!â she said in a flurry of hushed whispers.
âWho?â asked the flighthand, massaging his neck.
Ashiko grabbed him about the shoulders and pulled him to his feet. âEvander Zausch! Prince of Kustestade!â
â-Shh! They could hear you!-â
âHeâs in trouble!â
âHow are you gonna help him? You cannae even stand up straight!â The flighthand grabbed Ashikoâs arms, steadying her. âListen. Thereâs nothing you can do about the prince. Right now you need to worry about yourself.â
Ashiko froze in place. She was trapped in a whirlwind of thought, caught between her duties and the reality of the situation. Her common sense prevailed. She knew that without her wits about her and without a weapon to defend herself, she had no chance of rescuing her prince. âScheisse! Youâre right.â She looked down the mountain. Just below the snowdrift was a sprawling pine forest. On the edge of the horizon she could see lights. Civilization. âDo you think we can make it there?â
âWould you rather stay here with the sky-pirates?â
âYouâre just full of good points today,â said Ashiko. She took the flighthandâs hand, and pulled him to his feet. âFollow me.â As the two survivors trudged through the fresh snow, the howling wind and roar of the broken thrusters muffled the sound of their footsteps.
Down in the dark forest, they finally had a moment to catch their breath. Unhindered by the lights of the estate, Ashiko could see the night sky in its completeness. Iotaâs rings curled across the horizon like angelic fingers; the hand of a divine being keeping a close watch on the people below. Two large spots of color hung over them; Iotaâs twin moons. It was unusual to see them in the sky at the same time. Ashiko forgot if it was supposed to be a good or bad omen. A carpet of stars above distracted her from her surroundings on the ground, sending her straight into a tree trunk.
âWhatâs your name?â asked the flighthand as they came to the tree line.
âAshiko,â Ashiko answered on instinct, âAshiko Kaida, personal bodyguard to His Highness, Prince Evander Zausch.â
âHow âpersonal?ââ the flighthand asked, throwing up a pair of air quotes.
Ashiko narrowed her yellow eyes and tugged at the edges of her cloak. Although wet and musty with melted snow and sweat, it still bore hints of his smell. âYou donât need to know what the prince and I do.â
âShouldnât the princeâs âpersonal bodyguardâ be a man?â the flighthand -very reasonably- asked.
âI asked him about that once,â Ashiko said, âHe told me it was a stupid question and never gave me an answer.â
âThis prince, he doesnât sound like a nice fellow.â
âNo, heâs a good guy. Heâs just a little⊠demanding sometimes. Thatâs just how royalty is, you know?â She fell silent. âItâs too dark out here.â She pressed a button on her metal arm, and the Scoria batteries popped out, bathing their surroundings in a bright blue light. âThat should help.â She turned to the flighthand. âBut enough about me. Who are you?â
âSundara Darcy,â said the flighthand. In the light, Ashiko could see that he was sharply dressed. His pinstriped pants and button-down shirt didnât seem well-suited to the weather, but next to Ashiko in her blue pajamas and winter cloak, he still looked significantly more prepared. âPersonal bodyguard to that heap of twisted steel.â
Ashiko winced. âSorry about that.â
âItâs not your fault,â Sundara said, âIf anything, itâs your royal hosts who are to blame.â
Ashiko bristled at the accusation. âWhat makes you think that?â
âI canât think of anyone else on that airship whoâd have a hit squad after them,â Sundara said, âHandsome guy, though, that prince. I hope heâs alright.â
âIf he isnât,â Ashiko said as a strip of raveling asphalt came into view, âThen my entire country is in danger.â
âRight now thatâs not important to us,â Sundara said.
âRight,â Ashiko said, âWe need to find a place where we wonât freeze to death.â She took her phone out and checked her reception again. Still nothing. âAnd where I can get a decent signal.â Sundara, seeing this, followed suit, and flipped open his phone.
âNo use,â he said, snapping it closed, âMy company doesnât cover Victon.â
âPerks of serving royalty, I guess.â
A short way down the road was a cozy-looking wooden lodge. Honey-colored light trickled out from the frosty windows into the snowy dawn. White smoke billowed out of the concrete chimney. âThat looks like a good place to start.â

"Where are you going with all those guns?" Marina asked Knives as he walked out onto the deck carrying a firelock rifle, firelock carbine, hotshot firelock, firelock repeater, revolver, revolver carbine, mage revolver, big bore mage revolver, and a fancy-looking automatic pistol.
"Don't worry about it," said Knives. His little kobold body was dwarfed by the sheer amount of wood and steel on his back. It looked like he was carrying a bundle of sticks! "I'm going to do some business."
"No, no, no you are not!" Marina said, positioning herself between Knives and the gangplank, "The last time you 'did some business,' there were no survivors!"

âThe actual Volucite becomes just a stone when it touches the air. Special technology is required for crystallization. Volucite is a ore that appears in the Studio Ghibli movie "Laputa: Castle in the Sky". Also called éŁèĄçł or Levitation Stone.đ
Something a bit different to what I usually paint, but I saw this model and I just really wanted to paint it! Its just such a neat little model, especially that spherical cockpit.
The model is printed in resin on my Mars 2 Pro, and the stand was done on my Prusa in a copper silk filament. I love that copper silk for decorative things, it just looks so good.
It is a bit messy in some points, mostly because painting the cockpit wrecked me, it wasn't until I actually started painting it until I realised how fiddly it was to do. My metallic covers way better than my yellow does, so every little mistake took quite a few careful coats to fix.
That said, I really like how it turned out all the same! Most of my messy points fade away once its a on a shelf rather than right up in my face at painting distance.
The model is Red Stinger by Heriberto Valle MartĂnez.
