i havent seen a lot of it on tumblr but i remember shortly after the ending bit of emh dropped people were villainizing vinny so bad on discord which is i feel like such an absurd unfounded conclusion to draw from all of that, that vinny mustve secretly hated his friends the whole time, or hes just a conniving evil guy who was just looking for an excuse to betray his friends' trust . because like, that is not the type of bad dude vinny is intended to be. his "evil" is in his complicity, in his standing by while things fall apart and broadcasting it to the entire internet, its in his passivity. its in his, say it with me: voyeurism!! vinny is not evil hes just fucked in the head and scared for his life and desperate and made extremely bad decisions as a result of his desperation. im not saying dont hold him accountable in your meta and fic for the fucked things he did, im just saying the idea was never that vinny was some irredeemable monster. saying he is arguably defeats the point because the commentary there is that anyone can be a vinny, that vinnys error was a fundamentally human one, and one worth sympathizing with. hes a bastard but he'll always be a bastard worth feeling compassionate for.

Malik's death in Revelations was tragic and violent enough as it is, but if you take into account how Altaïr's relationship with Malik began, it feels very targeted on Abbas's end.

Think of how it began with Altaïr's worst mistakes, getting his younger brother killed and Malik's arm ripped off. I'm sure Abbas was there to see him nearly expelled from the brotherhood, I'm sure he heard the fate of the Al Sayf brothers. Only for Altaïr to take that horrible mistake and its consequences and become the best possible version of himself, from unable to handle any responsibility to becoming the youngest mentor the brotherhood ever had. Even his relationship with Malik would go from animosity to close and trusted friend. You could argue that Malik was his GREATEST friend, other than Maria and his own children. The kind of growth and maturity it would take from both of them to get to that point is frankly astounding and for all Ubisoft's faults I think AC1 and Revelations did their due diligence with that

And then Abbas took that all away from him and never let Altaïr move past those mistakes he worked so hard to correct. How do you think he felt, being sent the severed head of the man started his journey with by severing one of his limbs? The mistakes of his youth cost Malik his arm, and now they've cost him his life in such a way that defiled and violated his body even more horrifically, after Malik trusted and loved him like a brother.

I like to think that Malik died protecting Sef from wrongful execution and defending Altaïr's honour. That the man who faced some of the bloodiest consequences of his past mistakes kept his youngest son safe and his reputation intact at the end, even at the threat of death for himself.

Hell, I imagine Malik was a bit of an uncle figure for Darim and Sef growing up. Perhaps the very thing that got him executed in the end was trying to keep Abbas's blades away from Sef.

okay i think about adaine and fabian being childhood friends a lot and i ALSO think about them fake dating because adaine’s parents are pushy and she’s the second child, the burden, the one that they’ll pawn off to the highest bidder the soonest chance they get. and fabian isn’t full elf, but his mother’s family is important in fallinel and yeah, okay, seacaster money is probably full of more blood than the average human, but money is money in the eyes of the abernants. and adaine asks him to date her, because she’s afraid of who her parents will give her too if she’s unattached, and fabian loves her, (but not like that) so of course he obliges. (and perhaps a part of him is using her to hide, too, because he’s noticed his tastes are far outside of what’s expected of him and adaine needs him to be strong, for the both of them, so he pushes those feelings aside to protect her and can’t help but feel guilty for protecting himself, too). just these two bonding over feeling trapped in their families and protecting each other whenever and wherever they can. 

fabian giving adaine his jacket, the first thing she’s ever worn that’s not a prep-school uniform. finding security in each other. adaine casting magic to protect, divining fabian’s fate and promising that no matter how stormy the seas, she’ll always be there to guide him. that he’ll always conquer it and sail into the sun as it sets into the horizon. adaine being terrified of the water and fabian swearing to her that he’ll never let her fall in. that he’d dive after her the moment she falls in. fabian standing tall when she’s afraid, shielding her with charm and muscles and a tight-knuckled grip on his rapier. going to stuffy coming of age balls and making their obligatory appearance on the dancefloor, and fabian is a graceful fighter but adaine has never seen him more beautiful than the moment his favorite waltz comes on. 

fabian teaching her how to wield a rapier, because magic surely can’t do everything, adaine. adaine’s first punch is thrown at him and she misses by a mile, but fabian falls to the ground like she socked him square in the jaw (and her second punch strikes true, in the middle of his chest, not nearly as strong as it could be and making him feel lighter than air). just these two finding levity and life in one another. just adaine and fabian man.
