Started da2 recently, and I truly love Carver so much. Ik this game is like 13 years old, but when they decided the player character could take their annoying little hater of a brother along on their adventures, they did that for me specifically <3

its not that hawke didn’t love carver it’s just that she’s a fucking idiot. I always laugh when carver isn’t mentioned as joining hawke and the others as they bailed from kirkwall and I feel like it was less to do with him staying with the templars and more to do with hawke fucking forgetting to grab him and carver being outraged.

You know what I love about Carver? He's doing it because he loves you. He's a bitch yeah, and he complains constantly, and getting approval with him is like pulling teeth but you know the reason he gives you rivalry? It's when you put yourself in danger. I mean, come on, Carver Hawke is hardly pro-Circle, he literally grew up in a family full to the brim with apostates and he watched them control themselves just fine without it. But that boy is terrified, literally terrified that you will end end being taken by the templars. He's terrified that you are being too blatant, that by helping mages and shouting at templars you are going to end up in the Gallows. And of course he is. Carver lost his twin. Carver lost Bethany. Carver watched her die. He talks big game about being in Hawkes shadow, but he doesn't want to loose them. He doesn't want to watch his mother go through losing Hawke. He fucking gives you rivalry because he cares. When you meet Fenris he immediately is like 'you got a problem with my sibling take it up with me'. He's never like 'ugh just let the templars take you Hawke the circle is fine'. He's just. He's traumatised. He wants to protect his sibling. And that sentiment is coming out wrong, but that doesn't mean its not coming from a place of love.

also carver just gets me because like. he's twenty in the first act of da2. he's so young and hot off the heels of losing his home and his twin, which is the kind of loss that fucks people up even under the most stable of circumstances, and the general consensus seems to be that he's deserving of disdain. that oh you can talk down to carver it's fine he doesn't deserve respect. like genuinely that's such an awful thing to do to someone in their young adulthood. no wonder he's so defensive, when everyone around him seems to be fine teaching him that he should expect to be attacked.

Hawke getting left in the Fade and the Kirkwall Krew going to save them is usually full of angst but can you imagine how fucking funny it would be if the squad learned their dumbass friend was trapped in the Fade and instead of angst they all dropped their diamondback hands made some bets and left to go get Hawke like this

She killed a templar with a kitchen knife once. My red Hawke inherited his aggresive/direct personality from her, not from Malcolm who was a very chill dude actually. Leandra taught her oldest son to murder knife people and Hawke later named his daughter after her <3

A/N: found this little piece i wrote ages ago about carver and my grey warden oc august’s first meeting. entirely without context for the reader, rip, but mayhaps i will write more about them to make that context!!!

He says his name is Auguste.

Carver hates the e at the end. It’s too orlesian and feels funny in his mouth.

“So August,” he says with a frown.

The other man frowns right back. “No, it’s–”

“August,” he insists, and August crosses his arms against his chest, glaring up at him with something hot in his gaze.

He’s a little over head shorter than Carver, skin pearl white and body clearly malnourished under his armor. He looks like he’s barely able to stand without assistance, to be honest. The tips of his ears are faintly sharp, but otherwise he looks entirely human. Mixed heritage, then, Carver guesses.

His round eyes are a little bloodshot but still clearly storm grey and unflinching as they stare straight into Carver’s own. His mousy brown, still blood caked hair is a mess.

He can’t be any older than Carver himself.

August doesn’t say anything in a while, just looks at Carver in a way that makes him feel flushed with annoyance. Or something.

“Carver Hawke,” August says slowly. He didn’t have that thick of an orlesian accent two minutes ago, when they were introduced. “A very Fereldan name.”
