Oswald of East Anglia
1. Why do you like or dislike this character?
I like Oswald. He's an important character for Eivor's journey and a significant ally for her to have. Oswald is the first person (if memory serves me right) to make Eivor see that there is strength in kindness and bravery in forgiveness - lessons that Eivor seem to carry with her for the rest of the game (should the player so choose). I adore how genuine and full of heart he is. And I truly admire the courage he can muster when given a chance to prove himself. Honestly, I like that he's a kind and gentle character who gets to keep being kind and gentle while he learns to stand up for himself. And I feel it's pretty neat that on top of it - he's a man who gets to display these traits. I love that he gets to be loyal to his own faith, belief and morals, and doesn't necessarily have to compromise them to please the Danes.
2. Favorite canon thing about this character?
His influence on Eivor and their friendship. 100%. A lot of this is also covered under 1.
3. Least favourite canon thing about this character?
Maybe just that I wish he had been present at the Siege of Portcestre or the Battle of Cippanhamm. Would have been nice to see him with Eivor's other allies - even if I wouldn't expect him to fight :') It was nice to see Finnr though :'D
7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?
I think, in general, it's just nice to see more of Oswald :') I always appreciate cameos or mentions of him in fics. :D
8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?
I haven't seen a lot of things that I despise when it comes to Oswald. I think people are generally good at interpreting his kind and loyal spirit. 🤔
11. Would you date this character?
Oswald is so very sweet and kind qwq I'd love to date him - but I don't think we'd be a match. While our morals might very much align, my chaos brain, goblin energy and weatherlike mood swings would definitely be too much for him. He's much more suited with someone of more stable character. 😭🥲
12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?
That Oswald is the sweetest, most loving, and most devoted husband and eventually father. That he embroidered the handkerchief he gave to Valdis himself And that Oswald at some point teaches Broder needlepoint (which Broder is terrible at), so that he can give a personal gift to Eivor 😂
19. How about a relationship they have in canon that you don't like?
Honestly - the relationship he has with Brothir and Broder at the start. Those two knuckleheads need to give Oswald a chance. I know they're protective of their sister and clan - but even Valdis tells them to get a grip. 🤣 And I say this despite genuinely liking Brothir and Broder. Fortunately, this is kind of resolved? 😂 Long live character development.
22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to this character? Something you don't like?
Oh no, now I feel guilty 😭 I've been sent and recommended fics with this soft man, but I've been too busy lately to read them 🥲 I genuinely can't answer this question. 🥺
25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?
I'm not sure. Which, honestly, says it all. Oswald didn't leave much of a first impression - but the more Eivor interacted with him, the more he grew on me. I know I quickly came to like him. And I still do. ;D

I was really surprised when I first saw this. I reblogged that for my own reference, and I honestly didn’t expect anyone to send something in. xD So thank you! Then I had a debate on which character I should actually do. One of my novel characters or an OC? So since you are a DA account I just decided to pick among my six different Inquisitors. (Father in Heaven help me.)
So I finally decided on my male elf.
1. What’s their full name, why was it chosen, and does it mean anything?: His full name is Revassan Terisinelan Lavellan. (Isn’t that a mouthful!) His first name was chosen in the hopes that he would grow up to be a great hunter, a dream that was dashed when his magic first manifested. His middle name is then the same as his father’s. Their meanings would roughly be “free arrow/arrow of freedom,” and “one who created a stone that lights a fire inside.”
23. Do they have a good memory? Short term or long term? Are they better with names or with faces?: Revassan has a great memory when it comes to numbers and dates. He also has a knack for remembering where he left something or places he has been. His long term memory is much better than his short term, and he is better at remembering faces.
38. What do they admire in others? What talents do they wish they had?: He has always admired people with integrity, which leads to him to really looking up to Cassandra. Revassan has always wished he could play an instrument.
44. What is their favorite season? Type of weather? Do they prefer the cold or heat? What weather do they complain about the most?: He loves spring because that was the time of year the halla would have their fawns. (He’s a sucker for baby animals.) His favorite type of weather is a light rain the the evening. The little pitter-patters help put him to sleep. Revassan absolutely prefers the heat, and will complain endlessly about the cold. He keeps four blankets in his bedroom at Skyhold because he hates the chill. (Don’t even get him started about Emprise Du Lion.)
50. If they could take one bag of stuff somewhere with them: what would they pack? What do they consider their essentials?: First thing he would pack was his staff and plenty of coin. He would then pack a small knife to skin animals with, and a canteen or something similar. He would pack a bedroll as well if he had the space. For him, his staff, knife, and canteen are essential, as he couldn’t survive without them.

You are literally so mean lol... (jk. It's just that these are some IMPOSSIBLE questions)
I don't have any "favourite" characters. I love all of them. There's a special place in my heart for each one - even characters that aren't meant to be likeable. Like Bret, for example... in the beginning, you're not really supposed to like him. You start sympathising with him more when you find out more about his life and what he's been going through lately.
If we're talking about which character I'd most likely be friends with, then probably Elise. I've mentioned this a few times already, but she's the character I've given most of my personality to. She's super sweet and friendly, but also an introverted bookworm. It would be so cool to have a friend like that irl... we'd swap book recommendations all day long.
The others are more rebellious and extroverted, so they'd probably be too much for me lol. That being said, I like to give ALL my characters a little piece of me, and I take a lot of inspiration from my life and experiences. So I'd probably vibe with each of them to some level (e.g. Dylan with his family drama).

I think the thing I find easiest to write is conflict. I just love creating chaos for some reason...
No, but really. It's something I've always been good at (well, being good at something is different from finding it easy/doing it all the time, but you get what I'm saying). I like throwing things off the rails. I like writing arguments. In Steph's Crew, there are like 5 main conflicts/arguments before we even get to the midpoint lol.
(It's a real problem of mine. When I was a kid, and I'd play dolls with my sister, I used to be the one to come up with all these random conflicts and plot twists for no apparent reason. It would seriously tick her off lol.)
Something I struggle more with is coming up with realistic dialogue. Which may sound weird, considering the fact that I'm literally posting a series of ONLY dialogue, but that is actually part of why I decided to do that! I like practicing writing conversations, it gives my mind a clear idea of what is going on, and planning out dialogue helps me practice more in that weaker area.
I'd also say writing romance of any kind is something I'm not 100% comfortable with, either (purely due to lack of experience lol). And I would avoid it in my own work... if I didn't love it so much. I need at least one love story in most of the stuff I write, I just love love too much! (Another serious problem of mine... )
Your third question is actually super interesting, and I'd actually like to tackle it in it's own separate post if that's ok. I just really need some more thinking time with that one!

Today, I'm asking writers to take two of their OCs from one of their WIPs (two MCs or hero and villain, etc.) and switch them, so they're now playing each other's role in the story and/or life in general. Wow, what a cool Ask! I love it! For the sake of being more challenging to myself and more compelling to those who read this post, I will choose characters who have vastly different life experiences. This will be fun, lol.
The Switches that Wouldn't Work:
Bryn Seperi and Nadinne Ahmirah:
If those two switched places, it would be so chaotic, omg. Nadinne probably wouldn't last a day living Bryn's life, and even if she did, she would probably not make it through with a sane mind. (I mean, he is literally one of the most dangerous mercenaries in the continent, plus, his life is basically a compendium of very brutal traumas from a very young age, and that's bound to screw someone up, even more so if that person is as sweet and innocent as Nadinne). Bryn living Nadinne's life on the other hand, would probably enjoy it a lot, and feel right at home amidst the nobility, though he'd yearn for some kind of fight or challenge to break through the monotony of everyday life in the nobility. (It is worth noting that Bryn was once the son of a powerful and wealthy general from the Borderlands, who was very close to the royal family of the kingdom he once lived in. So, before Bryn lost everything very early on, he did get a taste of a life much similar to the one Nadinne has). His brashness and aggressiveness would likely get him into a fight with someone important and he'd likely be cast out of the noble circles very quickly.
Emryc Thorne and Julyan Ashiren:
NAH DON'T LET THESE TWO SWITCH LIVES, FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING - It would go so horribly wrong so incredibly fast. Emryc is not built for caring for children, in any way, and Julyan can't do a heist to save his life. Emryc would take the siblings with him to a tavern/store and then promptly forget they were with him until two hours later when he goes "OH SHIT - Where those kids at?". Julyan would try to rob someone with a very shitty plan of "How To Heist" and then feel so bad about it that he'd be caught before he even left the person's property, like, he'd trip every possible alarm and make so much noise that he'd be like "Just arrest me already will you? I don't know what I'm doing, and I really don't want to know."
Myrah Faron and Nethen Fahris:
This is what I call: A Disaster Waiting To Happen. Are you kidding me? Myrah has zero comprehension of how to keep her thoughts to herself and will cuss out a noble if they as much look at her the wrong way. Plus, if she saw someone she cared about die the way Elain died in front of Nethen, she'd lose control and it would end up with either everyone around her dead or her being executed next. Likely both. She lacks completely what it takes to be a political manipulator - she's too blunt, wild, and ready to speak her mind in very clear terms should she need to. Meanwhile, Nethen living Myrah's life would likely end just as badly. I mean, what let Myrah survive was her fierceness and lack of restraint, but Nethen is a very calculated guy - he thinks too much before acting, and if he led Myrah's life, that would be his downfall right there. He overthinks too much, and in that situation, that's precisely what he could not afford to do. It wouldn't end well for either of them.
Trystan Grayspear and Helios Maevel:
It would end in chaos. Helios does not know anything about fighting - unless, very vaguely, in self-defense - so he would make for a pretty disastrous knight. Meanwhile, while highly intellectual and book smart, Trystan does not know anything about being an alchemist - he knows the names of every potion and of every component, but ask him to put them together and you get an explosion in your hands. So yeah, chaos ensues if they switched places.
The Switches that Would Work:
Jamie Tellian and Isolde Kierah:
Both are knights-in-training, both have a strong sense of justice and both fight to keep their respective families safe, the only difference is their background (Jamie was a very poor street kid for most of his life before getting the chance to train as a knight while Isolde grew up wealthy and sheltered as the daughter of a Royal Knight of Faravvia), but other than that, their personalities are pretty similar. They would cope very well with switching places.
Darian Caelestis and Innara Renfelli:
Though their personalities are vastly different, their backgrounds are largely similar. Both are noble children who grew up in the midst of conflicts (though different kinds of conflict) and who joined the rebellion by accident while trying to make things right. Plus, Innara is very close to her family (who are everything to her) and Darian largely wants to make his dad proud of him again. Another interesting point - both have a fascination for alchemy and though Innara only buys the potions she needs and Darian always makes his own potions, they're just as nerdy about it.

I adore talking about Xarian and his story, so here we go!
Can you tell us more about Xarian from Tales of Wilted Flowers?
Xarian is a deuteragonist/second protagonist in the story of Tales of Wilted Flowers, and a love interest to the actual MC, Lorelai Wildwood. He is also a fairy/fae.
He starts his story looking for a way to unbind himself from the sorcerer that had him captive for years, as even after his lucky escape, the villains are still tracking him down. After becoming an outlaw - I will explain that in a second, don't worry (; - Xarian seeks Lorelai's help, as her father's journal could just hold the answers the fairy needed. Soon after, they end up framed by the crown and have to run away, setting out to discover what is truly hiding behind their kingdom's seemingly perfect facade, if they want their freedoms back (and end up discovering the awakening of a mythical evil they must stop in the process).
This is the gist of the beginning of his tale in the book, as the story will then progress as they venture into this adventure together and recruit new friends for their quest. I can say that Xarian will be faced with a difficult/ill-fated decision at the end of Act 2, so keep an eye out for that when the time comes!
If it's not too spoilery, how did he become an outlaw?
Okay, onto the tricky part!
Xarian's true past is revealed gradually throughout the story, as he slowly grows to trust - and love - Lorelai enough to share his backstory and situation. (Some very specific events in his past are major spoilers, but those don't necessarily revolve around the way he became an outlaw).
So onto the beginning then! Let's see me try to avoid the major spoilers lol
Years before the main storyline starts, Xarian moved to the capital of their kingdom and trusted the wrong person. Trusting the wrong person destroyed his life (at least recent future prospects), and he found himself trapped in a magical "deal" with a powerful sorcerer seeking power in the lands (the main villain).
Growing tired of his situation, and after figuring out the sorcerer's plans, Xarian escaped after temporarily shattering the bond that held him prisoner and slipping away unnoticed. (The details as to how this worked are spoilers, and he tacitly leaves out most of those details when he explains his past the first time anyway).
But that's not how he became an outlaw.
Keeping a low profile and knowing his time was running out if he wanted to avoid being captured again, Xarian decided to do something reckless: breaking into the royal castle, and stealing something important, something that could give him the information he needed to stop the sorcerer.
The plan didn't quite go as planned (SPOILERS, and it had repercussions, not so great ones in fact), but Xarian was able to escape again, and this time he knew what he had to do (more precisely what he had to find) in order to defeat his worst enemy. But now, he was an outlaw, wanted in every city of the kingdom.
And this chain of events is what led him to Lorelai's old manor, in the first chapter of Tales of Wilted Flowers.
What's his greatest desire?
Xarian's greatest desire, throughout the entirety of the story, is to regain his complete freedom and to defeat (a.k.a have his revenge) the sorcerer who tried to destroy his life. But mostly, behind it all, he wants to just be able to be at peace again, like a normal person should. (After his and Lorelai's love story begins, Xarian really wants to be able to spend his life with her, like to actually be together as a couple, but they both know that the only way this can happen is if they defeat the villains first and get their lives back first).
Biggest fear?
Xarian's biggest fear is to be controlled or used, to become someone's puppet. He also fears being trapped or shackled in any way and is deeply afraid of seeing his friends and loved ones get hurt because of him (even though he rarely lets this show through his sassy and unbothered facade). He doesn't really fear much else (except maybe for spiders and other insects, but that's a small phobia).
+ BONUS! Because you told me to talk about him, and I love this character, here are three random facts about Xarian.
Xarian cannot sing. At all. He jokes that he sounds like a dying goose when he sings. He might do it proudly just to annoy Kaladin on the road when Kal has a hangover after drinking too many flagons of wine at a tavern. (While he does not sing he can play the lute very well, tho).
Before his life went to hell, Xarian wanted to be an alchemist and magical inventor in the kingdom's capital. He was (and still is) very talented and very passionate about the subject.
He is the kind of person to make genuinely funny comments/jokes while in a situation that definitely does not warrant funny comments (like while being chased by the acolytes of a sorcerer who wants to painfully kill them).

Oh my god I totally missed this! Okay, for this one I'll be using Asteria Heights. This technically counts as information on two characters, but they're such a duo that I kind of think of them as a single unit, anyway. Think of it as a fun little double-feature!
Aven is the only person outside of her family that can pronounce Meg's real name (Megumi) 100% correctly, accent and all. Since they've been friends since they were toddlers, he was young enough to be able to learn it. Her name is the only Japanese name/word he can pronounce, though.
I don't know if this will ever be referenced. Maybe, if he pulls the full name card when he's mad at her or something, but I haven't made any plans for it. So far, this is just a tidbit that lives in my head. :)

Just barely made it in time lol! Meg has magic, both the Common kind (aka the average witch magic), and magic specifically tied to her family, which is the ability to communicate with animals. I chose this one for her because I love magic and all of my characters need SOME kind of ability, and I felt like elemental magic is kinda... boring? And frankly, not very versatile, at least not outside of combat/in a more modern day setting. As for why animal communication specifically... well, that's a long story that's also kind of a spoiler, lol. So I'll leave it at "she gets to have a raccoon best friend named Michael."
