18. Symphony that you have most enjoyed hearing live?

so the symphonies i have heard live so far that i recall are 1) sibelius 2 2) dvorak 8 3) shostakovich 10 4) shostakovich 5 5) mahler 7, 6) beethoven 7 and 8) dvorak 7 (if you don't count the ones that i have performed in). dvorak 8 and shostakovich 10 were both performed by a youth orchestra one of my band friends played in so they don't really count because it was high schoolers. sibelius 2, shostakovich 5, dvorak 7, and mahler 7 were all the national symphony orchestra and beethoven 7 was the new york philharmonic (marching band trip to nyc) (i kind of fell asleep in the third movement bc it was a long day)

that being said i think it would be a tough choice between sibelius 2, shostakovich 5, and mahler 7. the sibelius was paired with the shostakovich pc1 which also has a solo trumpet part which i really liked esp since the nso's principal trumpet player is like best buds with my trumpet teacher. also the performance of the symphony was exquisite.

the shostakovich 5 was another completely stunning performance by the nso. however. i went with my dad. and. during the. 3rd movement. the quiet one. his cell phone. fell out of his pocket. onto the wooden floor. very loudly. while the strings were muted. and the rest of the orchestra was silent. so that was embarrassing. but the orchestra was phenomenal.

however i think i will have to go with the mahler 7. yes, the conductor made some weird choices in regards to tempi (they like, rushed through the 3rd, 4th, and beginning of the 5th movements). but the instrumentalists played the music perfectly (except the principal trombone in the 1st movement; he was playing the tenorhorn part on a euphonium and splatted some notes here and there, which was distracting but did not detract from the musical experience as a whole. he also did remarkably well when he was playing trombone instead of euph), especially the principal horn and principal trumpet.

19. Which symphony would you most like to play in the future? Which part would you play?

i was thinking about this the other day and i think pretty much any of mahler 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, shostakovich 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 15, sibelius 2, 4, 5, 7 maslanka 4, 8, 9, 10 strauss' alpensinfonie (if that counts as a symphony) bruckner 7, 8, 9 however if i had to choose Just One i thiinnnk i would have to go with shostakovich 8 because of the trumpet solo in the toccata (3rd movement). also the rest of the symphony has some great trumpet parts too. also mahler 3 would hurt my face like hell but it sure would be fun!

I have a question about Cinders, the dragon, is she also a background character from the show? Or you made her yourself?

She’s real! She was one of the background dragons Ember had heating up the dragon eggs! Her color scheme spoke to me and I decided to make her the Spike stand-in, over a more conventional choice like Ember, Mina or the like.

First of all, I wanted to tell you that your work impresses me a lot and that in a certain way I admire you sooo muchh

It's not a secret that I have been in the onceler fandom for less than half a year, but the things I have seen, read and others inspire me like you have no idea, it is such an interesting fandom for me, as well as the people who contributed to it make it a place full of history, even when I read and read more things it gives me chills the dedication to make AU'S, comics, headcanons, etc is simply gratifying, and the creativity that everyone had

I would love to be able to create things that creative, it's SO WOOOW Sometimes i would have liked to be at the apogee of the fandom, to be able to send my questions and things, but i know that it could not be like that and there is nothing to do but if i can support the blogs that i follow, I do, not everyone is encouraged to open an askblog and dedicate work and effort to it

secondly ummh well I wanted to ask you about your character andrew, and other oc's, about his lore or where to start reading it, I'm very interested TT, but you know, I'm a biiiit outdated

I like your post about Caspar father and now I'm curious what's your opinion on Linhardt's father I like Linhardt's father honestly

I'm going to preface this by saying that this is just my opinion and I don't hold that against anyone who likes him. So I hope people won't be too bothered by this because I think I'm in the minority here. 😭 I'm not here to convince anyone, I'm just here to show my own takeaway on this. If you like him, that's fine!

So, my opinion on Wally: As his own character, he's fine. In fact, I think he's a pretty funny character on his own, and even funnier when Leopold is involved due to their dynamic.

But I don't like him in relation to Linhardt and what he means to him.

So I've already mentioned that my opinion of Waldemar is not a positive one. And my reason for this is simple: A lot of Linhardt's problems and personality "quirks" have always felt like a result of his upbringing, just like Caspar's. Except Caspar's problems stem from his view of himself, and Linhardt's stems from he deals with his responsibilities.

What's Linhardt's biggest problem? Other than his outwardly apathetic nature, it's the fact that he runs away from his problems.

So the question is, what sort of painful memories is he running from? Why is that his go-to solution to anything that heavily inconveniences him? He mentions never having been able to deal with his past but not once does he elaborate on what that is, and I attribute that to how private of a person he is.

And what we know about Linhardt is that he's been constantly exposed to the nobility, so I can only assume that these unpleasant memories have to do with his own upbringing.

We all know what the biggest thing he runs away from is: he doesn't want to inherit his title and house and all of the responsibilities that come with it. And yet he's resigned himself to the fact that it's an inevitability of his future. He's even using the Officer's Academy itself as an escape - a time to relax and not have to think about his noble responsibility. Essentially delaying the inevitable as much as he can.

His lack of motivation is pretty clear to everyone, even to his father - I don't have the screenshot, but in Scarlet Blaze (Three Hopes), Waldemar makes a comment about Linhardt's lack of work ethic. And yet Linhardt's still expected to take on the position of heir, even when the thought of doing so clearly makes him unhappy.

In Dorothea's support, he talks about Waldemar's pride, of which he states he has too much of it. And this is not talked about in a positive light, because in his mind, pride serves no purpose. And recall that he calls nobles who are full of pride fools.

The biggest red flag that Linhardt is not happy with his family situation is his utter lack of care for what happens if his house falls in Silver Snow. He expressed worry for what his father thinks of him not wanting to inherit the house exactly once (during his pre-timeskip advice box), and that worry completely goes out the window once he's given the option to not have to deal with it anymore.

And keep in mind that this is someone who can't stand war and bloodshed. Yet he prefers to deal with his utter disdain for violence rather than stay at home and "indulge in laziness" (as his profile states - I'd say it's more like he was forced to deal with house matters in between all of that)? Reasons involving Byleth aside (and in my mind, Caspar's the real reason, but I'm biased), you can't tell me Linhardt was perfectly fine living at home if he was willing to desert to fight in a war of all things.

He stole money from his parents to get away from there, even!!

And of course, this is also why the Casphardt ending is my favorite paired ending for Linhardt - he drops his noble title along with Caspar and truly does what he wants, which is to have freedom. Freedom from his responsibilities. Freedom from his nobility. Freedom from his father's expectations.

The only conclusion I can draw from all of this is that Waldemar doesn't give him that freedom. He may have let Linhardt indulge in laziness, but all that mattered in the end is that he has his one and only heir to take over House Hevring, regardless of whether Linhardt wants it or not.

This is a bit of a side-note, but something else that actually really rubs me the wrong way about Waldemar is the fact that he was one of the nobles who took part of the Insurrection of the Seven, and yet also decided to aid Edelgard in her reforms. So on the one hand, he took part in the event that kept the other nobles in power, and on the other he's helping with the reforms that keep nobles in check. So what gives there?

This is pure speculation, but a theory that my girlfriend (resident Linhardt expert) came up with was that it was all done to ensure his own position stayed intact, and subsequently, that of his only heir. Either way, the whole contradiction bothers me a lot.

There's also this from Three Hopes - really wish I had this screenshot, but in Azure Gleam, if Linhardt fights Waldemar, they have this exchange:

Waldemar: "At least the Hevring name will survive in some form."

Linhardt: "That's always been your concern, hasn't it?"

That's always sounded like such a biting response to me that shows that Linhardt saw Waldemar as someone who was only concerned with having the family name live on. Even if Waldemar meant it in a way that meant Linhardt himself would survive, the way it was phrased does not do him any favors for how Linhardt views him.

Linhardt is not happy with the relationship he has with his father, and because he's such a private person, he never talks or think about it. All we have are context clues to draw from and his total aversion to the idea of inheriting his house against his father's wishes doesn't feel like ungratefulness, it feels like someone who knows they would be unhappy doing that for the rest of their life but feels like they don't even have a choice, even when on the side of the war.

Having a parent who places high expectations of your future is exhausting. This is no exception and I saw no change in that in Three Hopes.

True!!! I didn't know If yall were going to keep the Canon version of Slade lying about his age but it's fair to assume he did the same thing here especially cause he is so young and I feel like he only told Lex and I want to say Amanda Waller but I feel like it would be one of those things where she knew the whole time and just never bothered to bring it up!! But poor Lex I can relate high-school sucks it isn't until like the junior or senior year that you're gaining some confidence but Lex definitely gained some when he graduated early and in college especially when he managed to be ivo lab assistant he must have thought "wow I can't wait for this it's so exciting" and then ivo worked him to the bone and now he tire and overworked

Now that I think about it do you think Lex tries to find out Slade's backstory like where he went to school and stuff like that I just have the funniest image of them making fun of each other yearbook photos

I would like to keep the idea that Slade lied about his age to join the military early in this version too. I can see him not actually graduating highschool rather just getting his GED. I can see Alex mentioning something negative about the idea of GEDs especially when it comes to their reputation unknowing that Slade has gotten his and considering him dumb because of it when he found out, assuming that Slade wasn't capable of graduating.

Alex was definitely socially awkward, introverted, but gifted. I can see him being in advanced classes and graduating early. Highschool was definitely not the best time for him.

hi! i read your wig tutorial and it's super helpful! but i had a question, what if bobby pins don't stay in your hair? they constantly slip out of mine so i find it hard to keep my hair in place and all @_@ thanks!

Hi there, lovely! I’m glad you found my tutorial useful! 

Okay, so when I was in color guard in high school I actually ended up learning a lot about bobby pins. 

The first thing I’ll ask you is if you’re using them right. Most people don’t know that the right way to use bobby pins is to pin the squiggly side down (so it’s the side closest to your head), rather than up. 

If that doesn’t work, make sure that the pins you’re using aren’t old or too cheap (i.e. make sure they’ve got that plastic bit at the end). 

If that’s still not working, I’d recommend using Spin Pins (little cork-screw pins they usually use for fancy up-dos, found in Target, CVS, ect.) to pin your hair up under your wig cap and then using the little snap hair clips to keep the strays away from your face (though idk if those would stay in your hair any better) and then, as always, just spray and gel the ever-loving shit out of your hair to make sure it just all stays back. 

Try using just an extra lot of bobby pins and those Spin Pins I mentioned earlier to pin your wig down afterwards. 

Oh! Also, are the pins not staying simply because you might have thick hair? If that’s the case, just try to make sure you catch less hair with them and use a lot. If it’s because you have fairer hair, try to make sure you catch more hair with them and use a lot. 

I know this is a lot of information, but hopefully this helped!

I haven’t had any major problems with bobby pins myself, so if anyone could let me know if these methods worked for them (I’m posting this public for anyone with a similar problem; I hope that’s okay, @lisidoesart) or if they didn’t work, I’d appreciate it.

I don’t know if this counts as “meta”, but let’s suppose that spinaraki actually becomes a canon romantic relationship in the manga. Hypothetically, how do you think the build up and the big moment that confirmed the relationship would happen/play out based on the story so far?

Oh man oh man

Idk what would be considered ‘canon romance’ - a kiss??? Confession scene?? Married with kids???? Horikoshi writing out the words “Spinner and Shigaraki are a couple”?????? - but for me, what would hit home, solid proof, all doubt annihilated would be something like:

Spinner saying his heart isn’t empty anymore because he met Shigaraki, because of Shigaraki.

Cuz that’s what started Spinner’s whole arc: he said he was completely hollow. He has nothing he wants to do, nothing he loves. Stain lit a fire in his heart, but it wasn’t enough, wavering in all direction, not bright enough to show him the road he needed to be on.

Now, currently, it’s Shigaraki’s dream that has started another flame, this one much more bigger, lighting up more of the road for him to take a few steps toward - now Spinner has something to do (following Shigaraki, protecting him), something to love/like (bonding over games with Shigaraki, the empty horizon) - but they’ve got a long way to go, especially not that a boulder named AFO suddenly got dropped right in front of them, blocking the path.

Now that I’ve finished with my dumb metaphors, basically, Spinner should go from being empty, to being full. And if that fullness concerns Shigaraki, especially if what Spinner wants to do is something like ‘always be by his side’ because ‘Shigaraki is important to him’, I’m taking that as a full, true confession from Spinner.

And Shigaraki reciprocates.

So for Shigaraki, I imagine the build up for him to be more subtle, maybe not so clear and out loud in words; but it would be him turning away from destruction, looking away from that empty horizon and instead seeing the League - seeing Spinner.

Shigaraki’s dream to destroy everything is ultimately self-destructive. It’s gonna wither away his thoughtfulness and care for the few people he’s fine with, it’ll interfere with what they want too. There’s not gonna be room for any positive emotion in his heart, rage and hatred having swallowed up everything, including love.

For love to exist, Shigaraki must have something he doesn’t hate. Not hating something means he cares, even if just a little, that he found something valuable and worth keeping. This being shonen, it’s obviously going to be the people he keeps close - his League, his friends. Why are friends so great? They’re connections to the world, they’re bonds that can’t be so easily broken, they make you feel better. How? Maybe because playing video games together is fun. And then maybe he doesn’t want to take that away from his player 2, since after all, he promised the League they get what they want.

Currently, Player 2 is... Spinner, who’s shown to be the most significant in plot and development, the character in the lead for ‘most likely to reach out to Shigaraki to help him’. Why would Spinner do that? Because he loves Shigaraki.

So, we’ve come in a full circle! Spinner cares for Shigaraki, and this makes Shigaraki care for Spinner. Kick it up a notch, and you get ~love~. And that’s Shigaraki putting aside total destruction to instead be with Spinner - for Spinner - who has vowed to be by Shigaraki’s side.

My god this is disgustingly pure and sweet, wtf

How so this get convey in the manga???? Idk, real good art. Preferably Spinner’s claws are involved again. The two of them close, all beaten up looking, protective of each other. Names being spoken with ellipses trailing off. Bonus if it’s their first names for some reason. Just. Shigaraki says whichever name - “Spinner...” or “Shuuichi...” - in response to something Spinner says or do, in a context like this, I’m taking that as his love confession. First name basis for these two is like marriage lbr.

Idk, so tl;dr, something like this:

“For most of my life, my heart was completely empty. But... then I met you.”

“...Spinner...”

“So whatever you decide to do, Shigaraki... I’ll follow.”

Headcanons for the gang's favorite autumn activities?

Rapunzel's is decorating, for sure! She loves the riot of colors of the changing leaves, and how starkly they stand out against a grey sky. She'll start with generic autumn decorations that will gradually get spookier as October picks up steam, then dials back to autumnal in early November.

Eugene's is fall fashion. He loves breaking out the stylish coats and boots that look oh-so-classy. (Plus, he likes staying warm as the air starts to take on a chill.)

Lance's is trick-or-treating and the whole Halloween phenomenon. He likes getting free candy and pranking people, but he's also come to really enjoy giving candy away, too. It's kind of nice to be secure enough that handing out treats doesn't mean he has to go without.

Kiera and Catalina love going to scare mazes. The actors never really frighten them, but sometimes Catalina transforms into her wolf form to scare them back, anyway. It's a riot!

Varian's is concocting hot drink recipes. From hot chocolate to spiced apple cider to coffee with flavored syrups, he enjoys not only coming up with delicious drinks, but sharing them with his friends and family.

Cassandra quietly enjoys dressing up for Halloween, especially if it includes a mask. Being able to go out into the town and just be herself without judgement it extremely freeing for her.

If you had to choose who your favorite character is from all of your works, who would it be? Why?

As a writer, what are the kinds of things that you find most easy to write about, and what are the things you avoid (+ Is there anything you'd like to improve)?

Let's say your main cast of characters find themselves trapped in a life-threatening situation. How would each one of them react? Who would be the most selfish and who would likely be the most selfless?

You are literally so mean lol... (jk. It's just that these are some IMPOSSIBLE questions)

I don't have any "favourite" characters. I love all of them. There's a special place in my heart for each one - even characters that aren't meant to be likeable. Like Bret, for example... in the beginning, you're not really supposed to like him. You start sympathising with him more when you find out more about his life and what he's been going through lately.

If we're talking about which character I'd most likely be friends with, then probably Elise. I've mentioned this a few times already, but she's the character I've given most of my personality to. She's super sweet and friendly, but also an introverted bookworm. It would be so cool to have a friend like that irl... we'd swap book recommendations all day long.

The others are more rebellious and extroverted, so they'd probably be too much for me lol. That being said, I like to give ALL my characters a little piece of me, and I take a lot of inspiration from my life and experiences. So I'd probably vibe with each of them to some level (e.g. Dylan with his family drama).

I think the thing I find easiest to write is conflict. I just love creating chaos for some reason...

No, but really. It's something I've always been good at (well, being good at something is different from finding it easy/doing it all the time, but you get what I'm saying). I like throwing things off the rails. I like writing arguments. In Steph's Crew, there are like 5 main conflicts/arguments before we even get to the midpoint lol.

(It's a real problem of mine. When I was a kid, and I'd play dolls with my sister, I used to be the one to come up with all these random conflicts and plot twists for no apparent reason. It would seriously tick her off lol.)

Something I struggle more with is coming up with realistic dialogue. Which may sound weird, considering the fact that I'm literally posting a series of ONLY dialogue, but that is actually part of why I decided to do that! I like practicing writing conversations, it gives my mind a clear idea of what is going on, and planning out dialogue helps me practice more in that weaker area.

I'd also say writing romance of any kind is something I'm not 100% comfortable with, either (purely due to lack of experience lol). And I would avoid it in my own work... if I didn't love it so much. I need at least one love story in most of the stuff I write, I just love love too much! (Another serious problem of mine... )

Your third question is actually super interesting, and I'd actually like to tackle it in it's own separate post if that's ok. I just really need some more thinking time with that one!

Happy STS! All good questions, and I figure I'll focus on one character for each!

What are the things that you would say make your character's skin crawl?

This is a good question for Janus. He's not easily rattled, and can play a pretty good act to disguise his true feelings, but on the inside, he's haunted by the memories of his past. Or perhaps the lack thereof? Either way, anything that even vaguely reminds him of his childhood makes him extremely uncomfortable.

If you had to describe that one moment in your characters' past that changed everything for them - for better or for worse - in a few words and without spoiling anything, what would it be?

Sophia, it's your turn! Her career changed forever after losing her mentor in a mission gone wrong, which she barely walked away from. Knowing that her mistake is what caused his death, she turned her back on her Guardian lifestyle to become a Watch agent, and vowed to never make another misfire.

What are the best things in your characters' life and what is their general view of the world around them?

I'll answer this one for Max. The best thing in his life is, hands down, his family. It's just him and his parents, and all of them are incredibly loving and caring towards one another—perhaps for reasons he's never known.

Generally, Max views the world through the lens of a realist, but that doesn't mean he's pessimistic, either. While he never wants to be solely responsible for the city's welfare, he can see the cracks in society and wants to fix them in whatever way he can. For this reason, he's decided to pursue degrees in law and political science. At least, until the vigilantes of Harmont decided they had other plans for him.

Imagine that your characters enter a magic labyrinth that shows them their biggest dream (s) come true. What do they see? Is their dream something they can achieve in real life?

HOHOHO! Bold of you to assume something like this doesn't exist in AASOAF lore already hehe. I can't go into what they see because it's kind of spoilers so excuse my vague-ing on this question 😅

In the same labyrinth, your characters enter a room that puts them face to face with (an illusion of) the person they hate the most or their worst fear. How do they react? Are they able to put up a fight against the illusion or do they need to be rescued? How do they feel in the aftermath of the confrontation?

Ooo okay so one of the big themes in AASOAF is personal growth, so to answer this question, if I were to drop any of the characters into something like this at the start, they would all need to be rescued even if they don't think they do. Predictably they'd all feel defeated and extremely fearful. At the core of each character is a single, but very real, fear that drives them forward and pushes them to do things to soothe that feeling. The goal is at the end, that when put in the same situation they would be able to overcome on their own based on what happened throughout the series and the people they've met along the way.

In the world of your WIP, what is the family structure that is considered "typical"? Why? As for the MCs in the story, would their family be considered atypical or different in any way, or do they come from a background considered "standard" in the world of your WIP?



ty for the great question!! klairva (the city of clocked out) is unique in that, since so much of it is already randomized and sort of "patchwork" - family structure is also varied, and many different types are common throughout the city. in the residential apartment areas, i'd say it's most common to have some combination of parent(s)/guardian(s) + kid(s) within each apartment room. also depends on socioeconomic status - richer neighborhoods will see more "nuclear" families with 2 parents + 2 children whereas the poorer neighborhoods will have all types of eclectic structures (single grandparent + 3 kids, an adult couple + their 2 friends, adult siblings + their baby niece, etc etc). mostly due to the frequent occurrence of adults "clocking out" due to running out of time on their watch. it's also more common to find households with more people in poorer neighborhoods than richer ones.

in lola's case, her family was: her mom, her dad, and her sister, peri. this was pretty normal for her neighborhood of snakesborough, if not somewhat uncommon, since both parents were alive. buuut her dad does clock out before the story begins soo... that definitely made her family structure more "typical" for the area LOL

In the world of your WIP, what is the family structure that is considered "typical"? Why?

Cue the sighs from anyone who reads any answer I have to anything: it varies lol. Humans keep with the typical, nuclear family structure that we are familiar with. Dwarves also have this but grandparents and extended family are a lot more involved with the nuclear family than in human families. As such, Dwarves have very caring relationships with each other and will live in the same neighborhood or town as their relatives. It should also be added, that the nuclear families of these two include same-sex or otherwise queer relationships!

Lizardfolk tend to have really big families, esp if the man of the house has multiple wives. Children are often looked after by their mothers and nannies exclusively, fathers only become involved around ikismal prep season. Seeing extended maternal extended family is not normal, since women move to their husband's hometown to support his clan and raise their kids.

Elves are communally raised once they get past a certain age. This is because their numbers tend to be on the smaller side and they want to prevent all sorts of infighting with each other so they want to socialize their kids as much as possible. It's common for children to call anyone older than them mother or father even if they aren't biologically related.

As for the MCs in the story, would their family be considered atypical or different in any way, or do they come from a background considered "standard" in the world of your WIP?

Mariel: Typical but despite this, her upbringing is atypical because of her circumstances.

Axtapor: Typical for a nobleman of the Empire but he doesn't like it.

Fay: Atypical. Her family was extremely impoverished and her parents were not very good parents so she was mostly left to fend for herself.

Wilkes: Atypical. He was orphaned and before that, his birth mother ran away from her husband's home with him.

AASOAF

Mariel: 7/10 Mariel grew up on a farm so she's pretty used to seeing creepy crawlies around. That said she can't keep her cool around them like she can with rodents and other types of pests so she is definitely the sort to be startled by one, and call for help if there is someone nearby. Otherwise, our little lady is bucking up and dealing with it on her own.

Axtapor: 10/10 A big part of Lizardfolk diet is eating bugs including roaches. While they aren't his favorite, he's known to indulge from time to time because the wings have a nice crunch to them *chefs kiss*. So he just manhandles them whenever they're around and down the hatch they go!

Fay: 0/10 Fay grew up impoverished in the slums of a place called Saltend and on more than one occasion discovered roaches in her bed, clothes, food, hair, blankets you name it. Safe to say she was traumatized after being surrounded by them for so many years. She is definitely calling in for backup if she sees one.

Wilkes: 10/10 Even though he's a Lizardfolk, he doesn't eat roaches. Rather, he despises them because Fay hates them so he's become quite the exterminator on her behalf. He can hit one from across the room with a throwing knife and has done so on many occasions. I should add, that he also doesn't let his adoptive parents eat them either. The Sikthax-Seymour household is a roach-free zone 😤

M.O.W

Hartim and Lexlar: 20/10 So these two are from The Oasis Heartlands which is mostly jungle ergo, LOTS of bugs to eat. They hunt bugs for fun and roaches are no different but they are a little bit more sadistic with roaches than other creepy crawlies. Lexlar will catch a bunch, enough to fill a jar, and then set them loose in an enclosed area, like a room for example, and let Hartim just go nuts trying to catch and eat them lol. Then the same thing vice-versa, Hartim will catch a bunch and release them for Lexlar. They claim it's a speed trial but they're really just playing with their food lol.
