Character Ideas - Tumblr Posts

That's my take on flying characters
Suppressors fight flying superpowered people by blinding them with laser bands. I need to draw that
some character developments i want to see more
the quiet one snapping
the bully realising their mistake and turning to a protector instead
the traditional one accepting a change
the cold one giving a soft hug
the angry one being most calm
the reckless one being most cautious
the chaotic one being calm in the most desperate situation
the hopeless one being the symbol of hope
the stupidest one giving the brightest idea
the selfish one giving their things to the needy
the disciplined one causing most chaos
the homebody travelling around the world
the winner losing a game and realising life isn’t always about winning or losing, it’s about enjoying the game
✧ OC Asks! ✧
I compiled a short list of some questions that I hadn’t seen yet to help you (and me) have some fun while developing OCs. Feel free to answer these yourself, or ask someone else!
1. How does your OC feel about their full name?
2. What do strangers notice about them first?
3. How does their social personality differ from how they act when they’re alone?
4. How do they act around a crush?
5. Do they have a “tell” for when they’re lying?
6. What do they smell like?
7. What is their hair texture like?
8. How much jewelry do they wear, and do they have a favorite or distinguishing piece?
9. Do they have a word or phrase that they tend to overuse?
10. What is a weird quality that they have (ie their hands are always cold, they’re always hungry, they snort when they laugh, etc)?
11. What color do they look strikingly good in?
12. How do they show affection to someone they love?
13. Do they make strong/frequent eye contact when they talk to someone?
14. What attributes do they have that are inherited from their parents or shared with their siblings/other relatives?
15. Are their greatest flaw and their greatest strength related and in what way? (ie very caring and helpful but a doormat, or very observant and shrewd but often paranoid)
16. How has their childhood affected the way they view an aspect of their life (people, education, society, themselves, etc)?
And that’s all! Remember to reblog with your answers, I’m genuinely curious to hear about other people’s characters/writing processes!

Gen 2
Hi!! So I was hoping for some advice from Tumblr.. I’ve heard good things about you guys.. :D
So I have this very large world for the books I’m writing, and I’m currently working on Gen 2!! So when the MCs grow up and have kids. I was wondering if y’all had any ideas for the new kids??
Some quick backstory is, the parents were the MCs of the previous books, and there are eight of them in all in the group. They’ve escaped a monster-city when they were 7–11, (one of them was left behind and tortured, she escaped later) and then when they’re 14–18 they go though two wars. After all this they eventually get to settle down and stop almost dying every five minutes.
The group is very close-knit, best friends, and want their kids to have the best life possible and the best childhood that they didn’t have when they were their age. They live in a seaside village. (Fantasy/horror world—not a modern/real-life world) Most of the parents are in some way queer, pretty sure the kids are gonna be queer too :D
And anyways I was wondering if anyone could help me come up with some ideas for the kids?? If not that’s ok too ^^
Sorry if this is a weird post btw?? Idk how to use Tumblr 😭
(I also plan to most more later about these books :D)
D&D Party Ideas
A pair of twins that recently found out that one of them is a demigod, so they're going to punch the god that fucked their mom.
A cleric, a paladin, and a warlock who worship the same entity but dislike the way the others do it. (Bonus if they're in a party with number 1 and their god is the demigod's father.)
A dragonborn, an aasimar, a tiefling, a half-elf and a half-orc who are looking for their shared father, a human bard.
A bounty hunter and the person they're trying (and failing) to hunt.
A vampire and the archaeologist that stole their urn.
A druid and a monk that have a petty feud.
An elf, a dwarf, two halflings and a human who keep getting confused for another adventuring party.
A food critic, a chef, and the designated Person Who Cooks who sucks severely at cooking.
A band of criminals who a terrible at being evil.
An evil wizard and their favorite mooks.
Gnome barbarian and their half-orc cleric fiancé.
A collection of people from the same secret society who don't want to tell the others that they're from the secret society.
A party of people with religious affiliations and their shared god in disguise.
Was talking to some animeooking character in a dream and I think the name was rueali or ruiel. It's like now I forget
Very complicated design
Blue or purple hair, an elf maybe. There was something involving magic gem.
The characters involved had something to do with a video game. You could play the game two different ways. I was saying good bye to her but also asking for permission to use the concept and maybe she come stop on by now and then to help write the story.
I just woke up and can't recall. How frustrating.
One version of the game , the character is a person you play as, and the other she is the magic gem or a summon spirit.
The design was very JRPGish. Not sure like from creator. Very sweet looking girl. Sad too. Lots of busy stuff going on

some observations on color coding eyewear in ficton and their meanings
More male characters who are interested in their mother's legacy. As a trope there's a lot of sons and daughters who follow in the father's footsteps and there's yes, girls who honor their mother, ect. But let's have more dudes who are like. Stumbling on their mom's secret fairy cottage or some shit. And they're like aight gotta make the tea
The woman was sitting in silence above the stage, watching the group of people below who were dancing and singing. The sound of their singing and the sound of the fireworks in the background creating the atmosphere of the cold night of December.
“Do you remember someone when you look at them ? “ a man asked approaching her from behind.
“Remember who?” she asked, not glancing at him.
“I can’t tell, but you just remember” he said taking a puff from his cigarette and looking up at the fireworks. “Why do we kill the gods by fire?”
“To keep them at bay, to keep the luck on our side” she said, still not taking her eyes of the stage.
He took his eyes from the sky and glanced intensely at the woman next to him.
“And if I kill you ? Right here, right now? Then what? “ he asked not taking his eyes of her.
“You won’t be able to go to Tokyo” she said.
“Do you carry Tokyo in your back pocket?” he asked smirking.
The woman slowly took her eyes from the stage and looked at him in the eyes. Her eyes pitch black and focused like a predator watching its prey.
“How else would I have reached you ? Gotten you to be alone with me?” she slowly asked never taking her eyes of him.
i love tragic characters who get their whole world ripped out from underneath them and then completely fuck themselves and everyone around them over in the most violent unnecessary ways imaginable
teen girl angel with one white wing and one black wing, not because of any angsty fall from grace or demonic parentage, but because she's an emo who thinks split dye looks cool
generally not super into shapeshifter characters being revealed to have like a singular True Form. isnt it much more interesting to imagine a creature so fluid and ever-changing that even they cant identify any one body as the "true" self, or simply dont see the need to?
is this you? yes. this one too? yes. but then which one is the real you? define "real" define "you" theyre all me. even the ones that are someone else? especially those.
characters who are absolutely convinced down to their bones that they are unlovable being subjected to the mortifying ideal of being wholly and unconditionally loved. that’s the good stuff. never get tired of it.
i have such a love for characters who descend into madness or villainy out of deep, deep empathy. characters who fundamentally cannot cope with the cruel realities they find themselves in and blow up about it in spectacular fashion. fallen angel type characters with tears of outrage in their eyes. characters who break before they bend, and break so badly they splatter blood all over their noble ideals. every variation on it gets me so good
Good Traits Gone Bad
Exploring good traits gone bad in a novel can add depth and complexity to your characters. Here are a few examples of good traits that can take a negative turn:
1. Empathy turning into manipulation: A character with a strong sense of empathy may use it to manipulate others' emotions and gain an advantage.
2. Confidence becoming arrogance: Excessive confidence can lead to arrogance, where a character belittles others and dismisses their opinions.
3. Ambition turning into obsession: A character's ambition can transform into an unhealthy obsession, causing them to prioritize success at any cost, including sacrificing relationships and moral values.
4. Loyalty becoming blind devotion: Initially loyal, a character may become blindly devoted to a cause or person, disregarding their own well-being and critical thinking.
5. Courage turning into recklessness: A character's courage can morph into reckless behavior, endangering themselves and others due to an overestimation of their abilities.
6. Determination becoming stubbornness: Excessive determination can lead to stubbornness, where a character refuses to consider alternative perspectives or change their course of action, even when it's detrimental.
7. Optimism becoming naivety: Unwavering optimism can transform into naivety, causing a character to overlook dangers or be easily deceived.
8. Protectiveness turning into possessiveness: A character's protective nature can evolve into possessiveness, where they become overly controlling and jealous in relationships.
9. Altruism becoming self-neglect: A character's selflessness may lead to neglecting their own needs and well-being, to the point of self-sacrifice and burnout.
10. Honesty becoming brutal bluntness: A character's commitment to honesty can turn into brutal bluntness, hurting others with harsh and tactless remarks.
These examples demonstrate how even admirable traits can have negative consequences when taken to extremes or used improperly. By exploring the complexities of these traits, you can create compelling and multi-dimensional characters in your novel.
Happy writing!
me when sun characters are terrifying and destructive. me when light is an overwhelming damaging power. me w

characters whose philosophy is “if i cannot be wanted, i will be needed and if i cannot be needed, let me be used until there’s nothing left of me.” thank you for everyone’s attention. falls off stage and dies
no more cold and calculating i want warm and calculating. i want characters who use deductive reasoning to figure out whether their friend would like a wool or cotton quilt based off of their lifestyle, career, hobbies, and habits. i want "your nails are often chipped because you work for a law firm as a typist for this company which notoriously underbudgets their IT department, so ive bought you a keyboard cover that will not only prevent manicure damage but is also sensory friendly because I know you dislike certain clicking noises". i want characters who figure out their friends entire schedules and social battery levels just by examining who only use that info to know when the best time is to hang out with them. i want characters who create elaborate, supervillain level schemes just to get their hands on some collectible they know their best friend wants. most of all i want characters who do not use intelligence and reasoning skills as a reason to be cruel but as a means to be kind
Let’s talk about autistic Keith and Pidge
Because I am trash and it took me all of three episodes to be 1000% convinced that they’re both autistic. And now I’ve watched this show straight through three times (plus bits and pieces like eight full episodes of a fourth run for Research!) and I want to ramble about it.
Under the cut: a look at canonical evidence for autistic Keith and autistic Pidge, plus a few of my own headcanons.
Minor spoilers, mostly for the first four episodes.
