The more I delve into the universe created by Frank Herbert, the more shocked and surprise I become as things unveil like a knot in a rope. It looks simple, it looks like any child’s play but only if you understand which side to pull first to loosen it all together. I have honestly never been into something this deep like I am for Dune. Both the movies and the books reveal something so poignant that you can’t compare which one is better. The book Chani is nothing but a simple love interest that was created by Paul when he revealed he saw them being married and having kids. It was forced, book Chani had no character revelation instead of being a colonial fremen controlled by a freak created by a Bene Gesserit. But the movie Chani unveils its own narrative of how she chose Paul as a love interest even though he was the son of a Duke. Chani respected Paul as he was doing everything to be a part of the people where men and women are both equal. The equality that Paul chose to become a part of the Fremen made Chani fall for him out of respect and devotion. Everything makes sense but at the same time it doesn’t because as time will pass, upcoming parts of Dune will unveil a new story line and I’m honestly excited to see how they will now portray the characters of women whether it be of princess Irulan, Lady Jessica or Chani herself. The entire movie of Dune: Part 1 revolves around the narration of how Chani is a fedaykin surviving and serving for the people of Arrakis, were as Dune: Part 2 revolves around the importance of the desert spring, that how her tear drop with the water of life gives birth to the true messiah, Lisan Al-Gaib and the death of Paul Usul muad’dib Atreides, the outsider with whom she fell in love with.

snippet of a dune series i've been cooking up called "orphic" 😼

Feyd knew that you could feel his presence trailing behind you, even though you couldn't see nor hear him. you also knew he'd follow you all the way back to your bedroom if you didn't acknowledge him now, so you slowed your steps a bit as you sharply turned a corner.

He should've known to slow down as well, as he hastily marched around the same corner, but his emotions clouded his judgement once seeing you disappear from his line of sight. However, those emotions quickly dispersed once he collided with your shorter frame, beaming up at him innocently.

“Dear Feyd, how can i help you my darling?" You smiled, looking up at him.

"Do you know why i'm here? On Agarre-Venuse?" He growled, tightly grabbing hold of your biceps, making you look into his eyes. Even after all these years of knowing you, your garnet-colored eyes still kept him so captivated.

"How could i? I’ve only just arrived back." You said calmly.

"Of course, how could you? When only a day ago, everyone thought you were dead!" He snapped, but that calm demeanor never left you.

"Even Chievre and yourself?" You asked, suspiciously and at the mention of your twin sister, Feyd stiffened, which you took note of.

"Especially her." He rasped, letting go of your arms roughly.

"I don't see why." You shrugged. "She has visions, she should've been able to feel that i was still alive." You hummed to yourself.

He wanted to scream, he wanted to throw a tantrum similar to the one your sister previously did, when she'd lost the connection between you two and thought you died.

But he didn't, because as he finally looked over your tattered clothing, and unusually disheveled self, he could only focus on one thing.

"What’s happened to your neck?" he says, ignoring your words and moving your hair away from it. "i thought you vampires were fast healers." he squinted, thumb brushing against the large bruise resting on your throat.

"You read the book!" You chuckled, giddily, laughing even more at his unimpressed face, before calming down.

“Why, you going to kiss it better for me?" You smirked.

"Who did it, Y/n?" He rasped impatiently, hand itching to use his blade against someone. He surprisingly hadn't killed anyone recently, his thoughts being occupied.

"He’s dead. Which is unfortunate because I didn't get to do it." You hummed, before smiling brightly.

"However, I did get to watch him scream like a new-born after biting his hand off." You laughed, letting feyd reach his hand up to your cup your face and bare your fangs to him.

"You’re deranged." he finally chuckled, letting go of your face.

"So i've heard." You hummed, turning around to continue the walk to your quarters, leaving him standing there. "Don’t follow me, I wish to be alone at the moment."

"Will i see you later?" He found himself calling out, still glued to the spot you'd left him in.

And to think you hadn't even used the voice on him.

"Maybe." You said, cheekily throwing a wave over your shoulder.

One thing he could praise you for, was that, that unpredictability of yours always left him wanting to watch your next move.

hellooooo ! 🩷🩷🩷 if you're reading this, thanks for being interested in my story, 𝔬𝔯𝔭𝔥𝔦𝔠 !

Hellooooo ! If You're Reading This, Thanks For Being Interested In My Story, !

(i do not own DUNE, or any rights to the book franchise or movies!!! i only own the ocs created in this book and the storyline written (this is pre-events of dune 2)

i just wanted to say a few things about the main character, aka Y/N .

1. because i am black, when i envision the characters i write, i envision them as so, just as i assume other writers/readers do for their own works when creating them. however this story will not have any reference to skin tone for the reader, because i like to make my work all-inclusive for anyone to read.

2. i've always been very wary of when i'm reading a good story that labels the reader as y/n, but then inputs (a jump scare) certain descriptors along the lines of being "pale" or even body types being thrown in to describe the reader. Personally it throws the whole story off for me and makes me not want to finish it. and also makes me think of the reader as an oc (original character)

3. so with that ^ being the case i would like to input a warning now that the only physical descriptors i have for this reader/reader's family is that :

• the family's hair color is black

• they each have red colored eyes, as well as visibly sharp fangs

• and for the reader, her hair is long past her backside (which has much to do with her character's development at a point and is mentioned why early on)

4. Another thing is that I know a lot of people dislike the label "Y/N"for a character, however when this is posted, Y/N will be utilized many times throughout the story. If it truly does bother some people I do have a name for her ready but then I feel like that would make her an oc which i don't want to do. I also thought about making a separate book just with the name change but i'm still unsure.

if i am forgetting anything please do feel free to comment or even dm me about it, i only ask that it's not in a rude manner or anything like that (i don't like when people are upset with me 😭😭)

I could stare at him all day.

When I tell you that Timothée Chalamet has acting range I mean that he has acting RANGE. I watched that man play Willy Wonka two weeks ago. Today I watched him start a holy war. And in both cases I believed him all of it 100 %.

so within the universe of Dune, gender roles abide by a rigid false dichotomy created by the bene gesserit - men lead the noble houses, while the women may join their order, and the powers of both are kept intentionally separate. at the same time, the plot demonstrates repeatedly that the role of paul atreides as a character is that of the border between the concepts juxtaposed within dichotomies: he is both an outerworlder and fremen, both harkonnen and atreides, both a duke and a disciple of the bene gesserit.

as such, it follows that within the in-universe gender structure, he occupies the roles of both male and female, thus being functionally and societally nonbinary. in this essay, i will -

This is what reading Dune is like

Sometimes a guy in a fanfiction has the ability to read someone's gaze with the same level of detail a wine taster can taste the wine
