Whumptober Prompt Four- Human Shield

Hello all.  I’m trying here.  I’m very much trying to reach out to tumblr to stop the algorithm from targeting me but I am making very little success.  But I’m still trying.  Here’s day four- Human Shield.

AO3 link- https://archiveofourown.org/works/20899490

Lucifer was laughing at some joke Miss Lopez was telling after a successful case when he first felt it. Even though it had been centuries, he always sensed when his twin landed near him.  It had been one of the benefits of being Heaven’s only twinship.

He turned and saw Michael walking down the stairs into the precinct. It seemed she had learned from her siblings as she wore clothes that fit naturally into the human world, not her normal armor, though she looked more like Maze than he would be dumb enough to tell her.  Her golden hair shining in the sun, her fair skin almost glowing, her lifeless blue eyes narrowed onto him.  Had he not known his twin, he would’ve assumed she was a normal human being in a police precinct.

“Lucifer, you okay?  You went all quiet all of a sudden.”  Miss Lopez touched his arm, causing him to jump.

“Get behind me.”  Lucifer hissed.  “Now.”

“Lucifer, what’s going on?”  Chloe, dear sweet Chloe, asked.

“Get behind me and stay behind me.”  Lucifer repeated.

He put his arms out to shield his humans from his sister’s wrath.

Michael had reached them by that point, letting out a humorless laugh.

“Unlike one of us, I still follow our Father’s laws.”

“What do you want, Michael?”  Lucifer asked.

“Can’t I just visit my twin brother?”  Michael pouted, the false exaggeration convincing his humans.

“Dude, you have a twin?”  Miss Lopez asked, sounding excited.

“Has he not told you about me?”  Michael’s eyes gleamed.  “Brother I’m disappointed.  I’m Michael. Lucifer’s twin.”

Dan went to extend his hand but Lucifer kept him back.

Michael rolled her eyes, the natural look for her when the twins met.

“I told you I wasn’t going to do anything to your pets.”  She sneered, her annoyance at him clear.

“Pets?”  Dan said offended, pulling his hand back.

“Why are you here?”  Lucifer demanded.  “You haven’t visited me ever, why are you here?”

“Father, of course.”  Michael said, as if talking to a five-year-old.  “He wanted to thank you for getting rid of his punishment. On Cain.”

Chloe gasped, and reached for her gun instinctively.

“Come, human, you know that won’t work on our kind.”  Michael condescended.

“It’s all right, Chloe, I’ve got this.”  Lucifer tried to give her a hopeful smile.  If her face was anything to go by, he didn’t manage it.

“I thought you never lied, brother.”  Michael teased.

“I’ve received the message.”  Lucifer said.  “There’s no reason for you to stay.”

“Oh, I can think of a few.”  Michael purred, low in her throat.  He took a step back, instinctively,  his arms trying to protect his humans.  She advanced, like a predator stalking prey.  “Uriel, for one.  Mom.  Cutting off your wings.  Running away from your post.  The Rebellion.”

“Go home, Michael.”  Lucifer tried to portray a confidence he didn’t feel.  “Unless you want to reveal yourself to all of these wonderful people.”

“No, I don’t really want to be seen right now.”  Michael replied.

Lucifer cursed under his breath.  When Michael didn’t want to be seen, she wasn’t.

Michael laughed at him.  “Besides, two have already had the revelation, I’m just surprised the male hasn’t gotten it.  Then again, he doesn’t seem to be the brightest type.  After all, Mom liked him.

“Daniel is a bloody brilliant human.”  Lucifer hissed.  “He may be a douche at times, but he’s a good human at heart.  I won’t hear you insult him.”

He felt Dan’s hand on his shoulder, nearly making him jump out of his skin.  Dan squeezed in a way Lucifer recognized as humans trying to assist.  “Maybe you oughta leave.  Lucifer doesn’t want you here.”

Michael laughed her laugh, high-pitched and just as cruel as he remembered it.

“I don’t take orders from humans.”  Michael said, disgust written clearly on her face.  “Let alone a human like you.”

“Why are you here, Michael?”  Lucifer pressed.  “If He just wanted to give me a message, He would be sent Gabriel.  Why did you come?”

“I volunteered, brother.”  Michael rolled her eyes again.  “Gabriel was busier with… more important matters.”

Realization dawned on Lucifer.  “He didn’t send you.  You came here of your own volition.”

Michael sighed.  “Fine.  You caught me.  He didn’t explicitly tell me yes or no so I decided to interpret our Father’s word in my favor.  Just like the humans do.  Just like you did.”

“Well Father never explicitly said I couldn’t go after the Flaming Sword so I decided to interpret his words in my favor.”

Lucifer had said that to her as they fought over access to the Flaming Sword, during his Rebellion.  That fight, while always very fresh in his mind, seemed so long ago right now.

“Just go home, Michael.”  Lucifer pleaded.  He hated submitting power in their conversation but usually when he submitted, Michael left him alone.  Michael liked to play with her food rather than eat it.

“Mhm, don’t really want to, Luci.”  Michael took another step towards him.  “You see, I don’t mind being on Earth as much as our brothers and sisters do.  There’s a few things I’ve missed about you.”

Like watching a train wreck in slow motion, he couldn’t tear his eyes away, knowing exactly what his sister meant.  She cocked a fist back and swung.

He flinched back, hard.

She had stopped maybe an inch from his face.

“Luci, you’re such a coward.”  Michael scoffed.  “Why don’t you just go running to Mom like you always do?  Maybe I should throw you back in Hell myself, since Ammemadiel won’t do his job anymore.  Send you back to where you belong like I did the first time.”

Michael’s boot making contact with his chest, sending him flying across Heaven, falling, unable to stop himself, his wings limp and useless behind him as he fell down, down, down…

“Lucifer is where he belongs!”  Miss Lopez shouted, surprising him.  She escaped his hold on his humans and threw herself in front of Lucifer.  Lucifer was too stunned to stop her.  “How dare you come in here and try to hurt him?  He’s your brother, your twin, for Chrissake!”

Michael stared at her, wide-eyed.  No one had ever challenged the Soldier of God in such a way before, let alone a tiny human.

Miss Lopez barely noticed, and continued on.  “You should be ready to throw down for him at any moment!  That’s what family is for!  You protect each other, help each other, love each other!  You don’t strike fear into their hearts!  You don’t make them flinch at your touch!  You support them, love them, make sure they know you’ve always got their back!  And you know what, if you won’t do it, then I guess I’ll have to do it for you!”

Miss Lopez stood, all five foot four of her, in front of Lucifer just as he had done moments ago, arms spread wide to protect him.  Chloe was next, putting herself in front of him, followed quickly by Dan.  Lucifer froze, unable to stop them, unable to force himself to put himself in front of his humans to protect them from his sister.

Michael looked dumbfounded, even unsettled, and Lucifer knew her well enough to see the smallest flash of fear in her eyes.  He knew no one had ever called out Michael like this, she ran the Soldiers of Heaven like her own personal army, and no one dared to go against what she said when she decided to say it.  Michael’s face twitched, as if she was unsure of what emotion she wanted to portray, finally settling on a crude smile.

“It was just a joke.”  Michael murmured, obviously trying to diminish the human’s perception of her power, to Lucifer’s astonishment even taking a couple steps back.  “Luci and I used to joke like this all the time. It’s not a big deal.”

“It is a big deal.”  Dan said.  “You need to leave.”

“I didn’t even touch him.”  Michael pouted, the same face she would always make to their Father when they fought sending a jolt through Lucifer.  “He’s just overreacting.  He always overreacts.”

“It doesn’t matter.”  Chloe said.  “You are not welcome here.  Lucifer does not want you here, and if you stay, I’m going to arrest you for trespassing.”

Michael dropped her victim act.  She looked angry, but he knew she wouldn’t strike at him with his humans in front of him.  “Lucifer, I don’t know how you did it, but somehow you’ve gone from leading an angelic Rebellion to leading humans.  If this is how you want to spend your time, go ahead.  Just make sure to remember who can enter the Silver City when she wants to, and who can’t.”

“Go to Hell, Michael.”  Lucifer snapped.  “Maybe you can rule there for a few hundred years.  See how you like it.”

Michael started to draw her fist back again, aborted her actions when Chloe, Dan and Miss Lopez all stood up straighter to protect him, and then stomped off.  He could feel her wings fly her back to Heaven until she was out of his range.

“Oh my gosh that’s your sister?!?  No wonder you never talk about her, growing up together must’ve been Hell.”

“Man, I had no idea your family was like that, I can’t believe your own sister would hurt you like that.”

“Lucifer, are you okay?  Did she hurt you?  Are all of your other siblings like that?  Oh my gosh, was Amenadiel like that?”

All of his humans were talking at the same time, and he could barely distinguish who was saying which words.

“Ella, Chlo, give him some air.”  Dan said, breaking the cacophony of sounds.  “He looks like he’s about to be sick.”

Miss Lopez backed up immediately, and Chloe helped him into her chair.  His chest felt tight, but he wasn’t sure whether to tell Chloe to leave or beg her to stay.  He wasn’t sure what was going on with him at the moment.

“Lucifer?”  Chloe asked, her beautiful eyes scanning him for any injuries.

“Why?”  He finally found his voice through the lump in his throat.

“Why what, man?”  Dan said, gentler than he’d ever heard Dan before.

“Why would you do that?”  Lucifer looked at them, his fear mixing in with his surprise.  His chest started heaving.  “You don’t know what she could’ve done to you.  My sister is one of the most powerful creatures my Father ever created.  She can do things that my siblings can barely dream of.  And you threw yourselves in front of me.”

Miss Lopez put a hand on his arm.  “Of course we did.  I’ve taken a few beatings for my brothers. That’s what you do for family.”

Miss Lopez’s words, while he knew they came from a place of affection, did nothing to help the pain in his chest.  If anything, they made it worse.  He couldn’t breathe.  He couldn’t think.  Michael was going to come back and hurt them, Michael was going to hurt them, Michael was going to hurt him, Michael, Michael Michael-

“Lucifer, you’re having a panic attack.”  Dr. Linda’s voice came through a phone that had been placed next to his ear, shocking him out of his spiral.  “I want you to listen to me very closely.  Can you hear me?”

“Y-y-y-yes.”  Lucifer gasped out.

“Good, good.”  Dr. Linda said.  “Now, I want you to follow my instructions.”

Lucifer tried to do as she asked, controlling his breathing and rationalizing that his heart wasn’t about to beat out of his chest, until the vice around his chest eased and he was himself again, if a little exhausted.

“What was that?”  Lucifer asked.

“A panic attack.”  Dr. Linda explained gently, using her therapy voice.  “People get them sometimes when they’re under a severe amount of stress, such as interacting with an abusive sibling again.”

“The Devil doesn’t panic, doctor.”  Lucifer recited on instinct.

“Of course not, Lucifer.”  Dr. Linda soothed.  “That’s just what humans named them.”

It was then he realized his humans were still crowding around him, shielding him from onlookers and the outside world.  Each one wore an expression of concern and mild fear.

“You back with us?”  Chloe asked.

“When did I leave?”  Lucifer replied.  “I have not left the precinct since we closed the case.  I would not abandon you to my sister’s wrath.”

That elicited small but strained smiles from his humans.

“Lucifer, I’ve got another patient coming in.”  Dr. Linda said, sounding regretful.  “Will you be alright until your appointment tomorrow?”

“I think so, thank you doctor.”  Lucifer said, hanging up Chloe’s phone and handing it back to her.

A stiff silence hung around them for a moment.

Miss Lopez, as expected, broke it.  “Are you okay?”

“I will be, darling.”  Lucifer said.  “Just need a couple tumblers of whiskey, I think.”

“So that’s Michael.”  Dan said, as if testing the name out.  “That’s Saint Michael.  The archangel.”

“Heaven doesn’t actually really have archangels as you humans have created them.”  Lucifer explained.  “Technically, we have ranks in the Heavenly Host but that didn’t matter like you humans assumed it did.  No, what mattered most was who was our Father’s favorites.  Michael was one of them.  I wasn’t.”

Dan wiped a hand across his face.  “That’s nuts.  Man, I used to pray to Saint Michael when I was younger.”

“I doubt she heard you, if it makes you feel better.”  Lucifer said.  “Sainthood is a human creation.  Especially for my brothers and sisters.  Angels have little cares about what happens on the mortal world.  Unless dear old Dad instructs us to.”

Dan nodded.

“Wait, so you finally understand what I am?”  Lucifer asked.

“Kinda hard to not right now.”  Dan shrugged, looking afraid but he didn’t seem to be coming undone at the seams.  “Your sister walks in here and no one notices.  She dresses like Maze but with less visible knives and no one notices.  She threw a punch at you and no one notices.  She says she doesn’t want to be seen and you freak.  She’s been calling us humans and pets and talks about wings and throwing you in hell, again?  Amenadiel promised me Charlotte was in Heaven, and somehow I believed him.  I finally felt at peace after that shitshow with Marcus.   And you’ve been calling yourself the Devil since day one, saying you don’t lie?  Yeah man, I get it now.”

Lucifer stared at him for a moment.  “How do you feel?”

“Don’t focus on me, you’re the one with the fucked up family.”  Dan said.

“Was-” Chloe’s voice was hesitant, “Were all of your siblings like that?”

“No.”  Lucifer said, and all three of them sagged in relief.  “Michael was the only one who ever got physical.  Michael and I were the only twins in the entire Heavenly Host so we had a different relationship than with any of my other siblings.  A lot of them disagreed with me, or just didn’t like me, but Michael was the only one.  The problem wasn’t my other siblings joining in.  The problem was none of my other siblings, nor my parents, believing me.  Michael was the perfect daughter, the perfect angel, the firstborn of the twins.  I was the one who asked too many questions and didn’t do as he was told.”

“I have never wanted to punch God in the face more than I do right now.”  Miss Lopez said, and made to remove her necklace.

“Please don’t, Miss Lopez.”  Lucifer stood on shaky legs, grabbing her hand.  “My father and I may not have the best relationship, but I do know my sister adores you.  Don’t throw away the whole barrel because you don’t like one apple.”

Miss Lopez stopped, and wrapped her arms around Lucifer.  He patted her back.

“Oh my gosh, you don’t like touch, you probably don’t want to be touched right now, do you?  Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry.”  Miss Lopez pulled herself back, though he could tell all she wanted to do was wrap him up and never let him go.

“Thank you, Miss Lopez.  I appreciate the effort.”  Lucifer made sure to give her the most comforting smile he could manage.  She smiled back so he considered that a win.

“Since the case has been solved, the murderer punished, and warm, fuzzy feelings felt, I think it time I retired to Lux.”  Lucifer said, his skin crawling like he wanted to escape his body and this conversation.  “I thank you all for your bravery, and for your affection.  I… do not know how to properly thank you all for this so this will have to do the moment.”

Miss Lopez gave him a much more fleeting hug, this time followed by Chloe.  Dan stuck out his hand, and Lucifer took it, Dan then clapping him on the back.  Miss Lopez went back to her station, and Chloe joined her.

“Hey, Lucifer?”  Dan asked, just as Lucifer was about to walk away from this conversation and escape to his penthouse.

“Yes, Daniel?”

“Do you really think I’m a bloody brilliant human being?”  Dan asked, his tone taking on their usual banter.

Lucifer huffed out a laugh.  “I never lie, Daniel.”

Dan smiled.

“However,” Lucifer added, “do not take this to mean I will stop stealing your pudding, calling you a douche, or making fun of you every chance I get.”

Dan laughed, a genuine one, one he had scarcely heard since Charlotte’s death.  “Wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Whumptober Prompt #31- Embrace and alt.Prompt#14- Touch-Starved

I can’t believe it!  My first Whumptober is already over!  Thirty-one days already gone past, thirty-one prompts filled.  It feels like just yesterday I started writing!  Well, I hope you all had as much fun reading them as I did writing them.  Thank you all so much for your support this last month, I treasure all of your comments and notes.  You really made me feel special. And now onto the story because I know that’s what y’all are waiting for ;) I started with Lucifer and I’m ending with Lucifer.  (Takes place after Prompt #4 Human Shield technically you don’t need to read it but it’ll help)

...

Lux was alive that night, as it always was, but Lucifer barely paid attention to the music and dancing.  He was waiting for Miss Lopez, as she had requested to speak to him.  She had yet to go up to his penthouse, so he was waiting at the bar for her.  He thrummed with anxious energy, though he never would’ve admitted to it, because he could not for the life of him figure out what she wanted to talk to him about.

Ever since that debacle with Michael, Miss Lopez had stuck to him like glue.  She hovered around him, getting closer than her usual, always trying to be bubbly but he could tell she was hiding something.  She was hesitating over something but he could not figure out what.

“Miss Lopez, may I ask you what exactly you are doing?”  Lucifer had finally broken when she asked to show him a new piece of evidence and it was nothing new.  “Why are you hovering over me like a vulture with its prey?”

“What?  No, I’m not.”  Miss Lopez had drawled out, her tone indicative that she knew had been caught but didn’t want to face it.  “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Something is clearly different about how you treat me.”  Lucifer had insisted.  “You are on the precipice of a cliff, and I am getting tired of you hesitating to jump.  What is it?  Is it Michael?”

Miss Lopez sighed.  “Look, Lucifer-”

“You needn’t fear, Miss Lopez.”  Lucifer said.  “I will protect you should she return, though I doubt she will.  Michael does not like to be challenged, and she will not return when she knows you have no problems challenging her.  Even if it is just calling her out on her bullshit.  There is no need to hide behind me as if she were to jump out at any corner.  Besides, I would sense her presence before you.”

“I’m not afraid of Michael, Lucifer.”  Miss Lopez said.

Lucifer’s shoulders slumped ever-so-slightly.  “If you’re not afraid of her, then what are you afraid of?  Me?  I mean, I am the Devil but nothing has changed, I swear to you.”

“I’m not afraid of you, Lucifer.”  Miss Lopez said hurriedly.  “I’ve never been afraid of you.  I’ve been friends with the Angel of Death since I was eight, you don’t scare me.”

“Then what?”  Lucifer said.  “What are you so afraid of?  Because I’ve noticed, something’s changed since Michael.”

Unfortunately, at that moment, one of Miss Lopez’s machines beeped at her, drawing her attention elsewhere, likely back to the case.

“Lucifer, maybe now isn’t the best time for this conversation.” Miss Lopez said.  “My mass spectrometer just got a hit.  You’ll be at Lux tonight, right?”

“Of course.”  Lucifer said.

“Cool.  I’ll meet you at Lux at eight.  Sound good?”  Miss Lopez said, smiling in her way.

“I cannot wait.”  Lucifer had said, smiling back, though he hardly felt like it.  What conversation could she want to have that she couldn’t have in her lab?  It had seemed so strange and it set him on edge.

So here he was, eight sharp, waiting at the bar for Miss Lopez to arrive.  He saw her in her normal jeans and jacket, not in her usual club wear.  She saw him, and her smile lit up his world.  Miss Lopez’s constant optimism had always been infectious, even to him.

“Hey, Lucifer!”  Miss Lopez called, racing to him.

“Hello again, Miss Lopez.”  Lucifer said.

“Wow, I didn’t think an early Wednesday night would be this busy.”  Miss Lopez said, glancing around at the throngs of dancers.

“Lux is always busy, love.”  Lucifer said.  “Perhaps we should pop up to my penthouse.  It’s quieter up there.”

“Yeah.  Yeah!”  Miss Lopez said, her smile spreading.  “I’ve never been up there!  Always wanted to see it!”

“Ask and ye shall receive.”  Lucifer led her over to his private elevator and called it down to them.

“You have your own elevator?”  Miss Lopez shrieked.  “That’s so cool!  Do you have a doorman? How do you stop people from going up? Is there a list?  Am I on the list?”

The bell dinged and they entered.

“In order, Miss Lopez?  No, I do it myself, I hardly have a need to stop people from going up, there’s isn’t a list but if there was you’d be on it.  My bouncers know you, that’s what matters.”

They arrived at his penthouse.  Miss Lopez whistled as she entered.

“Damn, Lucifer!”  Miss Lopez’s eyes went wide with shock.  “You’ve been holding out on me!”

“I’m glad you can appreciate it.”  Lucifer said, walking to the bar.  “Drink?”

“Lucifer, you should know better.”  Miss Lopez smirked.  “Of course.  Whatcha got?”

“Anything your heart desires.”  Lucifer gestured to his full stock.

“You know me pretty well, Lucifer.”  Miss Lopez said.  “Surprise me.”

He nodded, and poured her a glass of fifty-year-old scotch.

“So, Miss Lopez, why did you ask to meet me tonight?”  Lucifer asked, as he handed her the glass.  “I’m afraid I cannot understand why you hover over me nor why you insist to draw me closer than needed.”

Miss Lopez sighed.  “I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable, Lucifer. I just- I thought- I…”

He frowned at her.  “Miss Lopez, I’m afraid I still don’t understand.”

“IJUSTTHOUGHTYOUREALLYNEEDEDAHUG!”  Miss Lopez shouted, the dam clearly bursting.

He stared at her.  “What?”

“You need a hug!”  Miss Lopez shouted, startling him.  “Like really, really badly.”

“Miss Lopez?”  His voice sounded strangled, even to him.

“Meeting your sister, that was crazy!”  Miss Lopez kept going, apparently on a roll.  “I mean, she’s supposed to be the best of the angels!  And she’s the freaking worst!  I mean, four brothers wasn’t always great to grow up with but that must’ve been Heaven compared to growing up with her!  And you threw yourself on the line for us, knowing what she could do to you!  You protected us from the biggest threat to you, and you did it without hesitating!  And after that happened, after you kinda freaked when I hugged you, I realized why some of you is the way you are.  Growing up with a sister who hit you must’ve really freaked you out when it came to touching people.  I know Amenadiel isn’t the biggest touchy-feely guy so you must have grown-up so touch-starved.  Even Rae-Rae doesn’t really touch me and I’m, like, the biggest hugger ever!  And I haven’t been wanting to make you uncomfortable but you seriously need a hug!”

He just stared at her, completely stunned.  None of his human companions had ever told him he needed a hug of all things before.

Miss Lopez just groaned without words, clenching her jaw, and then threw her arms around Lucifer’s chest and arms.  He stood, still stunned, but after a moment, his skin started to crawl.

“Miss Lopez, while I appreciate that you are trying to show me affection, I am perfectly alright.”  He finally found his voice, the thrumming under his skin growing louder with each passing moment.  “I am in no need of a hug.”

He fought the urge to squirm, his skin was tickled with little pseudo-bugs, as if thousands of minuscule legs danced along his skin.  It felt awful, but he didn’t want to hurt Miss Lopez’s feelings.  She was trying to help in her own human way.

“How different biologically is this form from a humans?”  Miss Lopez asked, not letting go of him.

“I don’t know what you mean.”  He said, unable to fight the urge any longer.  The legs were now sharp, the crawling across his skin unbearable to him.  He felt like his skin was tearing itself apart.

“I mean, does this body you have react similarly to humans when introduced to stimuli?”  Miss Lopez clutched him harder to evade his writhing.

“I don’t know.”  Lucifer growled, unable to keep his voice down.  “Will you- Miss Lopez, please- I cannot- Will you release me?!?”

Miss Lopez finally released him at his nigh scream.  He scrambled back away from her.

“Lucifer?”  She asked, sounding almost afraid.

He struggled to get his breathing under control, his skin screaming out at him.

“What did you do to me?”  He asked.

“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, Lucifer, it was just a hug.”  She said, starting to ramble.

“Must’ve been more.”  He snapped, unable to figure out what his nerves were screaming at him for.  She had let go.  “Why do I… feel this way?”

“What?”  She asked.

“Why do I still feel it?!?”  He shouted, startling her.  “My every nerve is on fire, I cannot stand it!  My skin is trying to…. something!  What did you do?”

Miss Lopez steeled her features.  “You’re touch-starved.”

“Touch- what?”

“Touch-starved.”  She repeated.  “Humans need touch to survive, we can fall into deep depressions, or even get aggressive to others because of it.  I was sure I recognized the symptoms when I first met you, and when I found out you were an angel, I dismissed it as a human flaw.  But after seeing Michael, and seeing how you view touch, you’re definitely touch-starved.  Another way to say it is skin hunger.  I think that’s what you’re feeling.”

“My skin is hungry?”  He asked, appalled.  “I’m dying!”

“No, no, Lucifer,” She held up a hand.  Part of him lurched for it and another part pulled him back.  “It’s just the word for it.  Because your nerves, your C-tactile afferents, haven’t been getting the gentle contact they need to function, your skin is unable to process it the way it’s supposed to.  You haven’t been touched enough.”

“I get more than my fair share, Miss Lopez.”  He snapped.  “I mean, just last night, I met this wonderful man who could-”

“Not sexual touch.”  She insisted.  “Gentle touch, sensual but not sexual.  I mean, when’s the last time you get a proper hug that wasn’t from me?  Or cuddled with someone instead of just sex?”

Lucifer’s mouth opened but no sound came out.  He tried a few times, searching his memory, but within Miss Lopez’s parameters, nothing came.

“That’s why you’re freaking.”  She very carefully came closer.  “You’re so used to painful touch your body has no idea how to process good touch.  Trust me, sex isn’t enough to satisfy your body’s needs.”

She gently touched his arm and rubbed up and down.  His skin screamed again, but the smooth, rhythmic motions made any protests he could make die in his throat.

“Miss Lopez, are you propositioning me?”  He asked, unsure of himself.

“No.”  She shook her head sadly.  “All I want to do tonight is watch Netflix with you on your expensive looking couch, drink your definitely expensive liquor, and cuddle you until morning comes.  That’s all.”

“My club, the case, I don’t- I can’t.”  He found himself being led to the couch, his heart not in his words.

“Lux will survive without you for one night.”  Miss Lopez said soothingly.  “Tell you what.  Why don’t you take off your jacket and nice suit, go sit on the couch, and pick something you wanna watch?  I can take it from there.”

He stared at her, the five-four human who had taken on the Soldier of God herself.  He decided to do as she said.  If she could offer him respite to this… hunger, as she called it, he would take it.  He didn’t understand why he was feeling this way, so he had to defer to her judgement.  So he started to remove his clothing.

“You want food or do you just want a drink?”  Miss Lopez called.

“Whatever you want.”  He answered on instinct.

“Food it is.”  She said.  “My treat.”

He barely heard her, his heart was beating hard against his chest.  He now was only in his underwear, and for the first time in his life, he felt rather exposed.  Maybe this was why Chloe hated it when he went without clothing.  When she returned, he found her only in a tank top and some booty shorts.  He frowned.

“Skin to skin contact.”  She said simply, settling in beside him.

She wrapped herself around him, where he was the little spoon for once, with his head tucked into the nape of her neck, his chest enshrined in her arms, her legs wrapped around his, but yet, he could tell that if he wanted to escape her hold, he would be able to.  But he found himself unable to force himself to.  He was… comfortable, for lack of a better word.

“What do you want to watch?”  She murmured, her lips almost brushing his ear, sending an unfamiliar feeling across his body.

“Bones?”  He offered.

Miss Lopez snorted.  “You know that show isn’t scientifically accurate in the least.”

“It’s fun.”  He pouted.  “Reminds me of the Detective and myself.”

“Alright, alright, since this is your night.”  She laughed into his hair.

“Thank you, Miss Lopez.”  He mumbled, switching on the television.

“We’re literally cuddling on the couch right now with takeout on it’s way.  We’re basically Netflix and chilling.”  She said.  “Least you can do is call me Ella.”

“Ella, then.”  He tested the name out.  It felt odd but safe, in a strange way.

Something very strange was definitely happening to him.  His skin no longer felt pain at her touch, especially since she had given him a way out if need be.  In fact, he felt a craving he had not felt since a time before he could remember.  He wondered if this was a side effect of the Detective making him mortal, or spending too much time on Earth.  But the longer he spent in Ella’s embrace, the less he cared.  Cuddling with her made him feel safe, sated, satisfied in a way he’d never felt before.  He realized that no matter what else happened tonight, he didn’t want Ella moving.  She was too close, too strong, too necessary for his happiness tonight.  Without a word, he nuzzled deeper into her neck, pleasure seeping into every fiber of his being.  He heard her chuckle breathlessly, and she started to lightly scratch at his scalp with her fingernails.  It sent shiver after shiver down his spine.  His brothers and sisters were wrong, the Silver City wasn’t Heaven.  Simply sitting with Ella with her fingers in his hair was Heaven.

They remained in silence until the food arrived.  Ella made to get up grab her wallet but Lucifer, having already grabbed his before he sat down, shoved money in her hands.  He wasn’t sure how much but he was sure it would cover the cost.

“I said I got this one.”  Ella protested.

“Ella, I believe you are doing me the favor here.”  He murmured.  “I’ll pay.  And I absolutely do not want you to move whatsoever and I don’t care what money it takes to keep you right here.”

As he was buried deep in her embrace, he missed the smile that had overtaken her face.  His usual delivery boy for Chinese takeout, doing favors for all of his favorite restaurants and always tipping well had its perks, didn’t say anything about the odd arrangement and simply placed the food on the coffee table.  Ella gave him the money, and the delivery boy went back down the elevator.

“I wasn’t sure what you wanted so I just asked for your usual.”  Ella whispered.

Lucifer only hummed in response to her.  He didn’t want food, he wanted this, never-ending.  Just him and his human, cuddled up close, without a care in the world.

“Well, when you want it, it’s here.”  She chuckled.  He wasn’t sure what she found amusing but he was glad she did.  She deserved to laugh, to be as happy as he was in this moment.

He paid less and less attention to “Bones”, his mind lazily drifting as the familiar episodes washed over him.  He had started with season one, in case Ella hadn’t seen any of the episodes, so she wouldn’t be lost.  Contentment filled his body and his mind, ever so slightly pushing him over the edge of sleep.  By the time a gentle voice was singing of a Winter Wonderland, his eyes were closed, his body lax, and his arms wrapped tight around Ella.  But he did not want to sleep.  Sleep meant he would lose Ella, he would wake up and she’d be gone, off solving crimes and examining evidence, and the world would begin to turn again.

“Go to sleep, Lucifer.”  Ella whispered in his ear, as if somehow reading his thoughts.  “I’ll still be here when you wake up.”

That seemed to be the final piece that pushed him over the edge.  He fell into a deep sleep, dreaming of soft laughter and light touches.  He’d never slept better.

Warnings - Murder, dead body.

Prompts - 42 - “Look, I haven’t slept in twenty four hours, I got fired, and almost got shot today. I’m in no mood for your shit” & 50 - “Don’t give me that puppy dog face.”

Being a detective was a difficult job, you always knew there was that large chance you could die on the job but you still did it because somebody had to. You wanted to help people and make sure that the criminals were punished, it was one of the many reasons Lucifer had started to orbit closer to you. It’s not that you didn’t like Lucifer, the guy was actually pretty nice once you got past the whole Lucifer persona but sometimes he interfered with you work, wanting to skip ahead to the punishing aspect of the job and not, say, the paperwork aspect of it.

Sometimes on the job there wasn’t enough evidence to tie a criminal to the crime but you knew they were guilty. The case you were currently working on, and the case that Lucifer had wormed his way into, was a shooting that you were convinced linked with a gang you had spent months looking into, if you were right then this would be your big break. You received a call early in the morning calling you in, it was a short ride to the scene of the crime and definitely not what most people would want as a morning wake up.

The victim had, clearly, been shot but there were other injuries on his body. You saw Ella with her camera assessing the wounds as you made you way over to her.

“Got anything yet?” You asked her, taking in the scene as you did. You were in the Willowbrook area, some back alley that was perfect for a shooting.

“Hey, morning! Yeah actually, so the victim’s name is Reggie Sanchez, he’d just turned 19 a few days ago and as you can see the victim was shot, I’d put time of death at around 4:28AM.” You registered the information she had given you as you crouched down next to the body, eyebrows knitting together as you felt something wasn’t right but you couldn’t place your finger on it. Something about this murder seemed familiar.

“So cause of death was the bullet? What about the other injuries?” You asked, gesturing to the bones that were popping out of the young man’s legs and the carved out chunks of skin on his arms and chest. “Whoever wanted him dead really wanted him to suffer.”

“That’s what I thought but turns out these wounds and broken bones, not done until after he was dead. See the cuts, the blood pattern is different to how it’d be if he was alive.” That’s when it hit you, you knew exactly who was responsible for the death of Reggie Sanchez. The gang you were looking into used this method of death when someone betrayed them or wanted out. Before you could say anything you were interrupted.

“Ah Detective Y/L/N, Miss Lopez. Beautiful day for a murder!” Whilst Ella welcomed Lucifer warmly you couldn’t help but roll your eyes, taking a deep breath you stood and turned to face the uninvited Devil.

“Lucifer what are you doing here?” He turned to look at you with a wide smile and God, how were he and Ella so damn happy this early in the morning.

“Well Detective Y/L/N, I’m a civilian consultant so I’m here to assist. That and I enjoy spending time with you.” You liked Lucifer, you really did, but this was your first, and maybe last chance for a long time, to catch ‘The Men’. Creative name for a gang who consisted of, as the name would suggest, only men, sexist men at that. The only time a woman is even near the gang is for sex. They were sneaky and their operation ranged from drug dealing to murders. You had first discovered them when somebody had been shot in broad daylight, the victim staying alive long enough to tell you he wanted out of the gang but they refused.

“Lucifer as much as I appreciate you wanting to help, this case is really important and I need a partner who is going to stick with me for the whole case, not just someone who comes and goes when it gets interesting.” The thought of dealing with Lucifer going off on his own after The Men after you’d spent so long tracking them filled you with dread. At least he had the nerve to look guilty.

“Y/N, I promise you have my full attention on this case. I’ll follow your lead. Devil’s word.” You debated it for a few moments before giving in, maybe Lucifer could be of some help.

“Fine, fine, but the moment you stray you’re off the case.” He quickly agreed and before long you were finished at the crime scene and heading back to the lab to go over facts whilst waiting to see if forensics found anything, not that you thought they would considering you knew their work and it seemed they knew how to hide any scrap of evidence that linked back to them.

“So, I think that this was a hit by The Men, a gang that know how to commit crimes without leaving prints. As far as I can tell they smuggle drugs in and sell them as well as murder. So far I’ve seen four murders, not including this one, that look like they could link to the gang, same injuries, same bullet type. I even managed to talk to a victim before he died, he wanted out of the life but they weren’t having it.” As you paced the room, files upon files of information you’d collected spread out on the table in front of you, you missed the fond smile etched onto Lucifer’s face as he watched you run a hand through your hair and your eyes light and wide at the thought of finally taking this gang down.

“But if there’s no prints how can you link those murders, and this one, to them?” Lucifer asked you causing you to look at him, head tilted as your brows knitted together. Lucifer’s smile grew even wider as he saw the exact moment you got an idea, he watched you rummage through the files before pulling one out and sliding it across to him.

“The gang is strictly men only. However, they buy prostitutes!” You exclaimed, Lucifer looked at you confused.

“Detective Y/L/N, how on Dad’s Earth is them buying prostitutes a good thing?” You rolled your eyes but smiled at the reference to God being his father and continued.

“That’s the way in. Face it, we’d never be given a warrant to search their property and the Lieutenant would never allow it without firm evidence, such as fingerprints or DNA. I have to catch this gang Lucifer and this is the way in!” You’d had a plan for a while but the thought of going over your superiors head filled you with dread, if you came up with nothing you risked losing your job, hell if you did find something you still risked losing your job.

“OK then Y/N tell me, what’s this devilish plan of yours?” Smiling you told him how you knew where they were getting prostitutes from, you would go undercover and get into their property, from there you would try and find even a slight bit of evidence that would prove they were connected to the murder. It’d be risky as you wouldn’t be wired up and the only person who would know was Lucifer.

“My, my Detective Y/L/N, look at you breaking the rules. But the plans far too dangerous, I simply can’t allow you to do that.” Rolling your eyes you look at the files in front of you and knew what you had to do.

“Good thing I’m not asking for your permission then Satan. Listen, I’m doing this so it’s just a question of whether you’re going to let me go in there all alone or if you’re going to be near to help out if needed.” You knew exactly what Lucifer would do, no way was he letting you go in without him being on hand. When he relented, with an over exaggerated sigh, you grinned up at him.

“If you get fired just remember I tried to talk you out of this.”

Lucifer’s whistle when he saw you had you blushing head to toe, you felt exposed and not just because you were wearing next to nothing, no you felt exposed because you had no gun, no wires, nothing. You were going in vulnerable but you needed this.

It wasn’t long before you were in, shooting one last look over your shoulder at Lucifer who sat, warmer than you, in his car. The place you were led to was as sleazy as the men who occupied it, women in your state of dress, and less, were dotted around the room on the laps of the men. The room was a large open space, you saw stairs leading to upper floors and a few doors located on the floor you were on. You saw weapons were just abandoned were they lay and thanked God that you had a decent chance of grabbing a gun if it came down to that.

You were led over to what looked like the man in charge which you were thankfully, though slightly fearful, for. He looked you up and down before standing, pulling you over to him.

“Hmm Baby, follow me.” Barely resisting the urge to roll your eyes you followed him as he led you up the stairs. Perfect, you thought now you just had to get away from him and start snooping.

Before you knew it, you were being pinned to the wall, a gun resting against your temple. You tried to push him away but he held you in place, choking you as his arm pressed into your neck. Your fingers pried at his arms but little good it did.

“Don’t think I ain’t seen you before, cop! Seen you snooping around crime scenes talking to dear ol’ Frankie ‘fore he died. Look at ya know though, no weapon and no wires. How were ya plannin’ on callin’ back up eh?” You felt yourself losing consciousness but fought against it, you needed evidence. When he relieved some pressure from your neck, not enough to push him away but enough to talk you gasped for air.

“There’s no back up, the department doesn’t even know I’m here. Let me go and I’ll drop the case I’ve got against you.”

“Please, you ain’t got nothin’ against me otherwise you’d come in here with your fancy warrants.” Fuck, you needed Lucifer or some sort of miracle to get yourself out of this alive and that’s when you heard it, the S.W.A.T team could be heard from where you two were, your face paling as the man holding the gun turned from the noise back to you.

“Oh you bitch.” Heavy footsteps could be heard running up the stairs and he bolted but not before pulling the trigger, gun pointed at you, when he was a safe distance away to pause for a second. A hand tugged you, causing you to narrowly miss the bullet that would have been fatal.

Turning you saw Lucifer, he looked as pale as you did, worry swimming in his eyes. No words were spoken as he rested his forehead against yours before pulling you into a tight hug. The hug was broken by your name being shouted, turning your saw your Lieutenant, face scrunched together in anger. Before you could go over to her, Lucifer tugged you so you were facing him again and kissed you. This wasn’t the first time the pair of you had kissed, there had always been something between the two of you but you never acted on it outside of what you shared. Pulling away you smiled at him weakly, watching as he pulled off his blazer and handed it to you, allowing you some modesty, before facing your boss.

“Reckless.” “Irresponsible.” “What sort of image does this present to the public regarding the LAPD?” Were some of the many statements you had heard whilst standing in the Lieutenants office. You knew what the outcome of this meeting would be but still hearing that you were fired crushed you. You knew you were a damn good detective and sometimes that meant following your gut but you knew you’d gone around it the wrong way. Even if they found some concrete evidence in the property it wouldn’t matter.

Walking out of the office you went over to your desk to find Lucifer stood with a sheepish grin. You were not in the mood to deal with Lucifer at the moment, all you wanted to do was go home and get in bed, not realising how tired you were until now. You stayed up all day and night yesterday going over every aspect of this case for nothing now.

“Look, I haven’t slept in twenty four hours, I got fired, and almost got shot today. I’m in no mood for your shit.” You told him pushing him off your desk as you started tidying up, you noticed a box on the desk and glanced at Lucifer.

“I apologise Y/N. I had a bad feeling about your plan and just wanted you to be safe. I never wanted you to lose your job because of me.” He told you, a sad look making its way onto his face.

“Don’t give me that puppy dog face.” You say with a smile, “trust me, it’s not your fault. I’m glad you called for backup because I truly believe he would’ve killed me. Help me pack up?” You asked and he immediately started helping.

Once you were all packed you couldn’t help the slight sting you felt in your eyes, you scrunched them together before opening them again, seeing Lucifer open his arms for you. You stepped into them immediately, resting your head on his shoulder as he held you tightly whispering sweet nothings as he did.

“Considering how bad your day has been how about we try and make it a bit better?” He asked into your hair. You rolled your eyes, as much fun as adventures with Lucifer were you just wanted to go home.

“Luc, I’m tired and just want to go to sleep. We’ll do something fun another time.”

“Yeah that’s not what I was talking about actually. Now may not be a good time, or it may be as good a time as any, but seeing you nearly get shot today made me realise how fragile your lives on Earth are and how I should make the most of my time with you, value every moment. Linda would probably say I’ve made progress. Anyway, Y/N, what I’m trying to say is I like you a lot and want to at least give being your boyfriend a try, if you’ll let me?” Grinning, you leaned up and kissed him, the kiss lasted for a few moments before he pulled away and rested his forehead on yours.

“I’ll assume that’s a yes?” He asked you with a soft smile.

“Yes Lucifer, it’s a yes.” You said before he pulled you into another kiss.

It had been a long exhausting day but at least something good had come from you nearly being killed.

Lucifer is definitely one of my favorite shows but I can tell you now that I fucking hate Maze. I don't get why she does half the shit she does. Ever since season 1. Shes so confusing. And then season five lucifer comes back and she's mad that he didn't take her with when she said herself she didn't want to serve him anymore. Lucifer was right when he said she could've just asked amenadiel ?????? Ugh what the actual fuck.

But seriously..

Kieran and Sinclair have the same dynamic as Lucifer and detective Decker. No one can change my mind.

What's more Lauren from purple hyacinth shares her first name with Chloe's actress, Lauren German.

Even the fact that Lauren was a detective before checks out with similarity to Chloe being a detective.

Another thing would be how both Kieran and Lucifer call their partners by their profession: officer and detective.

I WAS THINKING THIS AS SOON AS HER CHARACTER APPEARED ON SCREEN!

I WAS THINKING THIS AS SOON AS HER CHARACTER APPEARED ON SCREEN!

Ella Lopez is an ADHD Icon

So I’ve started Lucifer over quarantine, I’ve gotten into season 2 and I love Ella Lopez. I do some of the exact same things and I think that it’s likely she’s combination or inattentive ADHD

- She listens to music while she works (Possibly to keep herself stimulated)

- She’s always going off on random tangents onto things that are kind of tangentially related to what she’s talking about

- She talks a lot and kind of rambles when she talks, like she’s talking out loud and she’s following her train of thought as she’s talking

- She’ll blurt out things at random (Mostly at the wrong moment)

- Originally worked as a car thief, which makes sense since she could always move and tinker with things, but also solve problems

- Just her entire vibe man. She’s goofy and kinda disorganized and so smart. She’s an icon and I love her.
