Alternative free wiki hostings (aka wiki farms)
Miraheze - started in 2015, non-commercial - no ads and runs on donations, wide array of MediaWiki features, wide array of allowed types of wikis and content, much autonomy for projects, custom domain and private wiki options
wiki.gg - started in 2022 by former Gamepedia staff, limited to video games, accent on involvement of game devs and thus hosting official wikis, has ads for anons (but only of games having wikis here)
Telepedia - started in 2022, limited to entertainment (although might allow other themes upon review), has ads for anons, replicates Miraheze structure
WikiTide - started in 2023, no ads and runs on donations (but also tied w/ premium version called WikiForge), largely replicates Miraheze but has stricter content policies, custom domain option
Other free options I'm aware of are either too limited in allowed content or are very outdated/unstable in technical department to recommend here (or in case of Neoseeker - I'm completely unfamiliar with it, and can't say anything about it), but you still can check them out, alongside paid hostings, on this MediaWiki page.
If you (or your community) are brave and dedicated enough you can go with self-hosted MediaWiki instance (aka independent hosting), like JoJo Wiki (who started on Wikia and succeed at overtaking the SEO) or NIWA wikis. This option, of course, requires funding and technical knowledge, but it's still very much possible.
How to find existing alternative/independent wikis
try to use "-fandom" filter for search query in Google, or use other search engines like Bing or DuckDuckGo
Indie Wiki Buddy browser extension - it modifies search engine results and performs redirects based on its centralized list of independent wikis; a new indie wiki has to be requested/submitted to get added [ Firefox / Chrome ]
Redirect to wiki.gg browser extension - same as IWB but for wikis moved to wiki.gg (as I understand, works automatically without dedicated listing) [ Firefox / Chrome ]
(simple) Redirector browser extension - in case the wiki is neither on IWB or wiki.gg, and it doesn't filter out search results - only performs redirect on whatever you get; a redirect has to be set manually - see this tutorial [ Firefox / Chrome ]

Currently obsessed with the DC universe fandom wiki "alien species" section. More specifically it's article on Jesus.

I love how it talks about him like some niche background character that's barely touched on not the litteral crux of Christianity.

His description has the same vibes as an article speculating about what a character's parents would look like.

I don't know who wrote this but they're great.
Also this implies that there is a non-human sector of Christianity. But, like, isn't Christianity kinda based on Jesus? What do they believe? I need to know.
Hey! I'm doing a Alice in borderlands RP blog on the Roleplay wiki.

wiki
I FIGURED OUT HOW PEOPLE ADD STUFF ON THE WIKI
there's TEMPLATES
(god i feel like sebek with all these caps)
ive mostly just been seeing how other people do it and referencing it (cause there's specific names for things. like the navigation box for events having its own thing and a specific name for its 'type')
so so.
You know that one post I made sharing Azul's birthday bloom lines because it wasn't on the wiki? I ADDED THOSE

not the recordings tho because i dont know how to do it and i dont think recent-ish cards have those audio files (you basically add stuff from a sort of 'storage'. Like. you put in the name and it just. appears. like, for card type or something like that you put in the card name, like, say, 'Birthday Bloom', and that card appears there. its cool.)
i dont know how to explain it.
I did it for tsumsitter kalim too

and then because i am insane i did his vignette too (MY HANDS HATE ME). im so bad at describing how the tsum moves around. it was repetitive with 'hops'
because i am undescriptive (also the tsumsitter doesn't have a icon as far as i can tell. so most of the parts with tsumsitter kalim i just switched to his dorm uniform one. but for that one bit where he picks up the tsum i set it to tsumsitter. so its just. red. ALSO i KNOW its tsumsitter because i went to riddle's and checked what outfit name they used for him and its Tsumsitter.)

i got lazy and stopped describing when it left. so if anyone wants to go do that be my guest.
anyway i dont know if there's some special thing for when a time skip happens. like when there's a black swipe to signify talking/time skip so. fshuif
i dont know how to add him to the vignettes box either so. whoops. (i didnt even know there was a vignette navigation box ngl)

and because. for some odd reason i like doing this. i added chapter 5-1, 5-2, and 7-1 of Sam's New Year Sale 2024 (That's Pomefiore's bit, and then Diasomnia's visit. contemplating adding Diasomnia's leave too but my hands hurt). because those are pretty short and dont make me die inside (everything else is so absurdly long and at that point when i feel like stopping i just dont want to leave it unfinished like that yknow?? so i just keep going until im done and then die inside)
i dont think there's a file for the hagoita thingy??? the paddle. thing. i know in some chapters in other stuff it shows images of the item itself. but i looked back to when it was first introduced and there's no image of it showing it. and i tried searching for the file but nothing. so. it prob doesnt exist.
anyway if there's any typos im sorry. its more noticeable on stuff like the name and outfit cuz any typos mess it up, but on text, unless it has that red squiggly, im blind
sam's new year sale 2024
The entirety of the story for Sam's New Year Sale 2024 has now been added to the wiki. yay.

if i missed anything, lemme know.

That's
Chapter 5-1 Chapter 5-2 Chapter 7-1 Chapter 7-2 Chapter 8-1 Chapter 8-2 Chapter 9-1 Chapter 9-2 Chapter Ending
wOO.
dont ask me why two of those edits are different idk what happened with them (..maybe it's because I forgot to clarify what I added..?). but it looks fine and navigation works fine so im assuming its fine... (im still new to contributing, so if something happened, oops.)
ANYWAY. do people have anything in twisted wonderland they wished were added to the wiki but it isn't? like dialogue of stuff, or voicelines?
Cause for me when I was reading all the events at first (it didn't even occur to me to look at videos at the time) it bothered me when I noticed that the 2024 sale wasn't fully there so I ended up watching someone else go through it.
it still wasn't finished and I knew it was short so I ended up adding them all now.
so are there any unfinished bits that you wish were finished? cause I mean, I can give it a try if you want, I don't mind.
In the game I have access to all the books so far on EN (excluding like. yknow the bits in book 6 where you have to choose? i just kind of cheated and picked the right ones, so some of the wrong dialogue I don't have)
and Tsumderland 2.
I have no issue with going through videos for dialogue n stuff there so as long as its a thing that exists, ye.
help

someone explain to me how you fix this (tsumsitter)
(I cant tell how you add stuff to it so it was lot of trial and error.. the width thing doesnt appear in the visual editor tho [because i dont know code stuff]. so im stumped.)
for twst wiki stuff
when reading the dialogue
(spoilers for Tsumderland 2 dialogue)
Do you prefer when responses from the same character are together like this

Or separately like this?

I don't care either way, so I wanna know what you guys prefer (it gives me no extra work to do either so its purely just 'how do you like to read it' since its probably extra trippy to go from one chapter with separate, and then the next being all together lol. i was testing to see which looked better but i cant tell)
nothing like accidentally almost losing all your progress because you accidentally pressed the wrong button (my mouse has keybinds that backtrack to the previous page i was on and etc. guess what happened.)

so fucking thankful it saved.
i had the entirety of the chapter written down i just needed to save it...
(ive been adding some chapters for white rabbit fest. there's not a lot of imgs for it in the wiki yet, and i dont know where to find certain renders so its more or less a waiting game for ppl to add it and me just adding what i can at the moment)
i feel like complaining
MAJOR book 6 spoilers???
so. here.
is my dumbass inexperienced html formatting mf (is that even the right word)
the thunder spear speaks so it completely broke it because how tf am i supposed to add it?? twistune dialogue rows (thats what its called. even in battles.) dont have the option to hide text im pretty sure (and if there is, WHERE is the template page explaining how to format ????)
and since ofc the thunder spear doesnt have a PFP its just gonna be broken. so i. changed it to dialogue so i could hide the name and the image but then it pushed out the rest of the dialogue (the not properly formatted text is what it looks like if you dont put it in a table.)

so to fix it i resigned on creating ANOTHER dialogue table so it'd look how its meant to

but that means i kicked out the dialogue into its own thing and now even if you dont view the battle dialogue its just THERE. and. *headbang* oops my bad that somehow didnt occur to me i am an idiot
(ignore that idia and ortho are missing files. also theres an option for overblot=1 and while orthos a phantom i guess itd probably stay in the same category so.. yeah.)

so this is what it looks like now
which is better.
but now it really bothers me. and i dont think theres a way to fix it or remove the other 'battle start' 'after attacking' stuff. trust me, i tried for so long searching the wiki (this was back from the first time i encountered dialogue in battle, which was Vil in Chapter 66 of the tower thing where they attack the titan). but without the table its like the first image of the dialogue. and not adding the dialogue1 = stuff (which is equal to battle start) wont make it disappear.
so. yeah. i knew there was a reason i kept avoiding adding more chapters. because its either difficult or tedious.
anyway if you havent checked in awhile and you probably havent. the wiki has a bunch more of the book 6 chapters
(talking about the upper half) some chapters were missing. some were not. i just added the ones that were missing, and then i reached chapter 67 and gave up (did you know theres like 200+ chapters if you count the subchapters? pain. i managed through 66 because someone did most of tower 2, and i think the PTM parts of tower 3 iirc? which made it more bearable but chapter 67 has nothing LMFAO)

so yeah. wOO.
(i wanted to add more book 6 stuff cause someone started adding more chapters to GloMas which had been missing a lot of chapters for awhile and i got inspired! ..and then immediately hit a motivation killer jeez.)
anyway thanks for listening to me complain. i guess. does anyone even like hearing someone complain?? i just like talking about anything and everything
hfeisuhfd?????
(theres someone whose been editing character pages and i just lmFAO??. its getting reverted of course since its not canon but oop)

they went through the trouble of changing every he/him to they/them like goddamn. but i also wonder what they hoped to achieve??

LMFAOOO

THEY DID IT AGAIN (im in the wiki discord. it tells you when an edit happens on the wiki)
im watching this in real time
(i didnt know what was happening but then someone straight up said in the changelog channel 'STOPPP' so then i went to figure out wtf was going on. and. pff--)

yknow. i imagine this isnt the first time someone decided to do something like this
( a new accounts doing the same thing????)
hi! i haven't been here for a while...
for a couple of days i've been working on my lil project, which is Darkestville Castle (Fan) Wiki!
there seems to be a lack of information on this game's characters, locations info and other stuff online, so i've made a place dedicated to collect it. you can help by sharing it or contributing to it!

a note to Hetalians. We got our own fandom-run wikia. It’s called kitawiki. Please Google Hetalia kitawiki. At least it separates canon, fanon, and headcanon. (Squints at fandom wikia.)
Minecraft Wiki is independent again!!

Yahoo!!! No more FANDOM wiki!!! Find the new minecraft wiki at minecraft.wiki!!
I thought it would be good to make a little PSA post with summarised information on why they moved from FANDOM!
Why did they move?
FANDOM is notoriously a bad wiki for both readers and editors alike. This is due to the insane amount of ads, the site layout, the lag, the fact that FANDOM can just take your wiki from you, etc has made the minecraft wiki decide to move
Because of the lack of agency the minecraft wiki has over its own wiki, they had a long discussion and vote with the community on what wiki platform to move towards. You can view both discussions here and here
By moving to a more independent wiki, they can provide a much better and friendlier service.
What's improved with the new wiki?
New site look, lacking the ugly FANDOM yellow sidebar and removing all other unnecessary bloat! This also includes a dark mode option and other custom settings.
Faster load times! I have incredibly good internet, and even I notice the STARK difference between the load times of FANDOM and the official wiki!
Less ads! At the moment they have no ads, but they do intend to have at least one. The placement of which will be discussed with the community to ensure minimal disruption to the user.
Better search functionality! FANDOM's search is notoriously bad at giving you the answers you need. Now they can have a more robust search function that more accurately brings users to what they are looking for.
No age popups- Unlike FANDOM this wiki does not need to know if you're a child or adult.
Anonymous editing has returned! Users can now once again anonymously contribute to the site!
HOWEVER. THE MINECRAFT WIKI NEEDS YOUR HELP!
FANDOM refuses to close old wiki's that have moved away, and so they will continue to show up in search domains. The old domains such as minecraft.gamepedia.com and minecraftwiki.net are also permanently attached to the FANDOM wiki.
In order to help the new wiki be successful, you can help out in the following way:
Spread the word!
Don't interact with FANDOM links. The less people interact with FANDOM, the more google knows that people are looking for the official wiki and not the FANDOM one!
Dont use the old links, again for the same reason as above!
And of course, improve the wiki :D! Since you don't need an account to make edits, see what you can contribute!

I don’t remember half of this while consuming TUA...... Five really did piss a lot of people off, didn’t he? Of course he did.
are there any pages that you can think of that need work that people could get their edits from?
!!!
if you see any room for improvement on the disability rep page feel free to add or tweak however feels right to you. it might be revised but it will probably stick. i'm sure there's stuff we missed, or could word better
another approachable first edit would be going to any talk page on something you're interested in & requesting information or visuals you didn't see on the page, or identifying room for improvement. like whatever you can think of. sincerely expressing what new content you'd be interested in as a fallout fan is a useful contribution to the community & will inform the culture of the wiki. (sign comments with "--~~~~")

you can request whatever you'd like to see! if your suggestion goes unaddressed you can mention it to me on my talk page and i'll do my best.
you can also just do your best & make any non-destructive change you want. sincerely go nuts. you might get revised or questioned at first but you will still have an immediate impact. as long as you're trying to help & can roll with peer review, then yall will make the place a lot better just by speaking up and/or hanging out a little
i decided the pages for puppet man and the moth cult should be gonzo and fun, and i made it so. i wanted to acknowledge that indigenous fans sometimes claim Benny so i did. i created the disability rep page without asking anyone & it's a 10k word community project. i added a section about christianity to the CoA page because i had a bunch of stuff to observe. sometimes when people delete one of my sentences i clarify with a sourced essay.
this place has changed rapidly. if you observe something true and interesting about the world or history of Fallout, people will want to hear it, and there's probably a way to communicate your observation on the page. Fallout belongs to fans & it's called lore for a reason. just be yourself, and have fun!🚀🚀🚀🚀
that np mod they allowed to stalk a kid finally got banned for going on another racist tirade. admin is feeling out whether it should be a month or a year. gee
i'm amazed they didn't ban whoever he was arguing with as well. like absolutely shocked
still no staff comment on aforementioned highly visible child stalking incident

or the other 9999 rules he openly broke & was apprehended for but with no action taken
but then, the entire premise of our evil little protest was that the admins were extensively defending a racist mod. for this we were cast as crazy disabled people, villains, and crisis actors. if they end up being forced to ban the guy in question for being racist...
nukapedia, the official fallout wiki on Fandom Corp, has a culture that encourages doxxing and harassment by members of its official discord server. there is a high chance that the person doing this is a staff member who was recently banned for going on a racist rant, whose behavior alongside the overall culture of the server nearly drove a transgender admin who has been with the wiki for over a decade to resign. fuck them.

@ nukapedia please collect your man
