The bed felt empty without William in it. You turned around again, reaching for his side, only finding empty coldness and felt your heart sink again. Your eyes turned to the side, spotting the teddy sitting on the couch on the other side of the room.
It had been a gift on one of your first dates, a walking cliche that had made both of you flustered as you walked hand in hand around the carneval, plushie in hand. William had been both surprised and embarrased you still had it when you moved in, and you had jokingly said the teddy was to replace him if he was gone too often.
Maybe... it could be less of a joke right now. You figured it would definitely not hurt, giving you some sense of comfort. You didn't even know how much longer he would be gone for, and in the end you did warn him.
A soft smile appeared on Williams lips as he entered your shared bedroom hours later, very early in the morning. You were laying in the middle of the bed, soundly asleep, clinging onto the teddy he gave you for dear life. It was time to take its spot again.
