Inuyasha The Final Act - Tumblr Posts

The same goes for Italian dub, his voice actor (along with all the previous cast) was replaced and all somehow sounds a bit fake, so maybe that's the main reason why it feels like he talks too much but really at times his lines are just redundant and lacking of sharpness

Some of my favorite moments

Black and white panel from Inuyasha.
Sesshomaru's poker face. His words: "Conflicted? I'm surprised you even know that word".
Sesshomaru's mother smirking cruelly: "Don't be rude. Come now, why don't we have some fun?"

Sesshomaru's face here is EVERYTHING, far better than his anime counterpart's. That face's got written all over "I could almost laugh". I'm crazy for his dry humour and in The Final Act I DO miss it.

Sesshomaru's mother: "Regrettably a few sacrifices are unavoidable for the blade to mature".
Then we see an unconscious Rin in poor conditions inside the Meido hound's belly

The mere fact that as Inukimi says THOSE words we are shown Rin's life in very precarious conditions πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”

Sesshomaru's hand just barely caressing Rin's face as the child emits a feeble sound.
Sesshomaru's relieved thoughts: "She lives".
Then he retracts his hand and stays down on his knees.

Lord I-go-merely-to-slay-the-hound Sesshomaru

Frane from an episode of Inuyasha.
Inukimi's Meido Stone showing Sesshomaru as he kneels to place his hand on Rin's forehead

And instead we got this 😭🀬🀦🏻

That beautiful "She lives" trashed simply as that. Folly!

Also: in Sesshomaru's gesture to barely touch Rin's hair there's a gentleness, a delicateness... In the anime you can't even figure where he is placing his hand exactly, it almost seems he is enveloping all her face πŸ˜”

But to piss me off is that the small screen of the Meido Stone through which we see this scene prevents us from sharing Sesshomaru's point of view. And this basically is my problem with this whole episode's anime adaptation. Everything just feels so "screened", so "distant".

The manga though does manage to balance all things so that Inukimi's and Jaken's intermissions are not so much intrusive.

Chapter cover with a cheerful Rin barefoot on the grass holding a bunch of flowers

Okay. Uhm. You know. This is the cover of chapter 469 and it's located right after Sesshomaru's mother says "The darkness from which there is no return lies just ahead of you" (precisely when Kohaku says that Rin is not breathing anymore) and before the panel just below. Well... I like to think that that image of Rin is what comes instinctively to Sesshomaru's mind as soon as the darkness swallows him.

Black and white panel.
Kohaku is carrying Rin on his shoulders.
Sesshomaru's thoughts: "Rin is... dead?"
Kohaku to Sesshomaru: "She isn't breathing and... her body's getting... cold".
Sesshomaru: "Set her down".
Kohaku then places Rin on the ground

It's VERY meaningful that Sesshomaru doesn't ASK out loud if Rin is dead (with that aloof tone of the anime, what's more) but is trying to PROCESS the fact that Rin could be dead. The manga is really saying that he still is in shock.

Moreover I want you to notice that Kohaku's expression is far more affected by what is happening than it's shown in the anime where he almost acts like a robot (why?!).

Kohaku, desperate as he stays on his knees close to Rin: "Lord Sesshomaru!"
Sesshomaru appears very upset and even wrathful as he keeps repeating in his mind "Dead?".
Then mentally to his own sword: "Why Tenseiga? Answer me!"
Kohaku really upset to him: "Forgive me Lord Sesshomaru. I was with her but..."
Sesshomaru: "Silence".

And SESSHOMARU'S expression while he keeps repeating "Dead?!" in his mind oh Jesus 🀯πŸ’₯πŸ’£ I bet he never, NEVER hated Tenseiga more and that's saying something.

And he'll say "I won't leave you here!", "I won't let you die!", thus continuing to use words like "dead", "death", "die". It makes it all much more overwhelming, oppressive. He is fighting against the death and you can feel that.

And (oh such a detail) as he catches Rin on the fly after defeating the Guardian of the Underworld he IMMEDIATELY checks on her, WITHOUT waiting for his feet to touch the ground.

Sesshomaru in total shock to himself: "She can't be saved?".
And he drops Tenseiga.

THE ANIME COULD NEVER

God him just dropping the blade when previously he had reminded Kohaku that "This arm is only meant to hold a sword".

(And Rin's hand as if almost touching his.)

Sesshomaru's gloomy, angry face as he holds Rin tight. His thoughts again: "She can't be saved?!"

THE ANIME COULD NEVER PART 2

A frame from Inuyasha portraing the same image from before but Sesshomaru's hold on Rin is a bit loose and his expression is much less gloomy

(Heck this took me much more than expected, maybe I'll do a second part tomorrow, now I need to go to bed.)

Black and white panel from Inuyasha.
An unconscious Rin is in the grasp of the giant Guardian of the Underworld.
Sesshomaru's thoughts: Rin, I swear I will bring you home!!

I don't remember where I read this or who said it but my biggest thanks to you person who made me realize that Sesshomaru here is practically referring to himself as "Rin's home".

Whenever I think of it I feel just like this:

Meme with those stick figures weeping blood and tearing objects and people as well apart and grabbing some poor bastard's shoulders from despair
