My new copy of Pride and Prejudice arrived yesterday! I love this version of the book, it's small and light and perfect for travel. The book also has some stunning illustrations too that I love.

Feel free to message me if you want to talk about Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen or the Regency!

Basically I've read Emma by Jane Austen and just seen the film adaptation by Autumn de Wilde. I'm not over it and have some points to get through:

The film is so awkward and yet so aesthetically pleasing at the same time, OMGGG.

Emma's sass at the beginning! particularly in the scene when she's opening the carriage window to listen to Miss Bates. Dear Lord, she's the epitome of sassines.

How Emma and Mr Knightley are always drawn to eachother. Even when they're arguing they cannot help it but get nearer and nearer and look like they're about to kiss.

When they laugh together after the baby scene! It was such a good way to make it clear that they were still comfortable with eachother and had definitely made up after their argument.

All the glances they exchange.

The ball, obviously the ball. In particular how they are focused only on eachother, how they miss a step because of that, and the hands at the end.

The scene at the end when they are all reading end exchanging covert glances.

How totally smitten Mr Knightley is by Emma.

Their talk about Mr Knightley coming to live at Hartfield. It is the wisest decision and yet few people would have made it in that time and age.

The kiss.

How Mr Knightley cries twice; once out of despair, once out of happiness.

The fact that the film ends with a shot of Emma's pleased expression, BECAUSE IT'S HER STORY.

Some other valuable reflections:

Mr Woodhouse is the keeper of my serotonin. How he is portrayed in this film has so good a comedic effect that I am not to complain about the differences of his situation from how it's described in the book.

The actors are amazing, so neat and expressive.

Even though the plot doesn't always follow the book I believe that the story is well depicted (but I still miss the scene where Mr Knightley almost kisses Emma's hand before leaving for London).

The quotes they decided to use are truly spot on.

ok so, emma woodhouse refuses to marry because it would mean her father would be alone. she wanted to care for him, she was a daddy’s girl.

she wasn’t like isabella, who didn’t mind experiencing and making a life away from highbury.

but i don’t think she NEVER wanted to marry. i’m sure she does. it’s all women could really talk about and depend on for their future.

but she insists on taking care of her ageing father.

so, to feed her natural emotional and romantic parts of herself, she starts to meddle in other people’s lives. a human matchmaker. making marriage predictions and setting harriet up knowing she’s a natural daughter - needing help.

she’s always doing things for other people. even if she’s not always right, and too meddling. she’s got her heart in the right place.

and mr knightley comes along and shows her, she doesn’t have to give up love to be who she really is, a confident girl with a heart of gold, always giving her time and attention to the people she feels most need it. he proves to her that she too can have a happy ending

My Laptop Is Dying A Slow, Sad Death And, In The Process Of Making Sure All Of My Files Are Backed Up,
My Laptop Is Dying A Slow, Sad Death And, In The Process Of Making Sure All Of My Files Are Backed Up,

My laptop is dying a slow, sad death and, in the process of making sure all of my files are backed up, I stumbled on this - the prototype for the Adventures of Mrs Hudson (I've always been really good at naming stuff).

Our GCSE English teacher thought it would be a good idea to make us read Mansfield Park for our coursework. It was not a good idea to make us read Mansfield Park for our coursework. To this day I have no recollection of anything that happens in that book, because nothing happens in that book. But I do remember drawing these comics...

I have no idea what happened to the first or subsequent instalments of Fanny's adventures, alas, but I thought I'd share my cringey teenage doodlings with you all.

(This must be from about 11 years ago, which is shocking proof of the fact that:

a) my sense of humour has not evolved

b) my artistic ability peaked at the age of about 15

c) I have never been able to draw straight lines)

Rewatched Sense and Sensibility the other night. I love Hugh Grant so much. Sure the story is more tragic than Pride and Prejudice, but I mean there are other things that make it worthwhile

Rereading Pride and Prejudice for like the 20th time. I just love the humor and the romance! The characters are amazing! I love them all so much!

“Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us.”

Jane Austen, "Pride and Prejudice"

Hi Everybody!

Hi everybody!

I'm a girl from Poland and I love reading books, especially fantasy. That's why I decided to start a blog, so I could share my love of books with other people.

A week ago I started reading ''Pride and Prejudice'', a novel written by Jane Austin. My friend @hopefulmilkshakeengineer recommend this to me. Honestly, I find it boring, but I'm going to finish it anyway. Also, I literally love Elizabeth. She is an icon.

See you next Wednesday!

Henry Tilney and Catherine Morland are a gothic romance reading, Newfoundland puppy raising, gender non-conforming, queer couple.

They are very happy.

(They have a lot of fun fooling the straights.)
