⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀「⠀𝘓𝘦𝘵 𝘩𝘪𝘮 𝘨𝘰. 」
There is nothing words can describe here; his expression is more than enough for that. Levi is someone with such a big heart.
Here is also a thing that I felt like writing. Hope you'll like it too. ❤
The first time that he had seen him under his true light, even with the dimming light of sunset as dreadful as that one, had become as bright as a sunrise. The moment he had taught him, and had made him realize that a single moment of regret would be enough to hinder his capacity to make any decision during life threatening situations; that a single moment of regret was enough to make him drown forever.
Torn between forcing him again to take on the role of the devil devoid of humanity and allowing his soul to regain some peace in the afterlife, each second passing by seemed shorter than the precedent, as the running grains of dust inside an hourglass.
It was either him, or humanity.
Deep down, it seemed inevitable; he had to save the one who had saved him from a life of absolute misery, which would be entirely devoid of any kind of hope or freedom whatsoever.
Was it fair?
Was it fair to have sacrificed the humanity of a single person for the sake of a numberless amount of souls?
Perhaps were they all born at the wrong time, at the wrong place, in the wrong world, in a wrong life, where dreams, humanity and dignity had to be sacrificed for the sake of the human race's survival and future.
One second after the other, faster than the other; the colors fading more and more from his face, the light trickling down and away from the Commander's eyes, then fading with the setting sun.
Make the choice you will regret less.
Did he do right? Did he do wrong? He might never know. He could never tell. All that he knew was that it was the choice that he must never regret, never once in his life. Perhaps was it the biggest mistake he had ever made, for allowing his personal feelings to come in the way. Neither Eren's cries nor Mikasa's anger were going to change his mind; but in that moment, he realized that he had to save Erwin's last remaining bits of humanity.
It's not that he hadn't been acquainted with death, quite on the contrary. But it still stung, somewhere. To see his eyes devoid of life; devoid of that enduring light sparkling with curiosity, and an unmovable determination to move forward. Where did it go?
The determination which had led him this far, but not far enough; not as far as he wanted to.
He hadn't quite believed it yet, until the moment he had been told that he was gone indeed.
Had he heard everything that he said? Or had his last thoughts already wandered too far away for him to hold the last remaining bits of his attention?
The world stopped; everything froze and blurred within a single moment. It was real; he had to convince himself of it and carry on. He was not allowed to stop, not even stumble. He had already stumbled hard enough to allow his emotions to control him, just a. . . How long had it been already?
One second after the other, slower than the other. He's gone.
Let him go.
"I see."
