Minor Arcana - Tumblr Posts

Starting today I will post an interpretation of one of the 78 cards of the Tarot each Thursday. Today I start with The Hierophant. Comments and questions on my take on it are welcome! The Hierophant generally refers to two aspects: belief systems and social structures. While belief systems encompass religion, ideology, as well as questions of morality and traditional values, social structures can denote institutions related to government, education, or faith, as well as a company, family, and other communities. As an authority figure in both areas, The Hierophant demands obedience to established rules and engagement in certain rituals to uphold a specific belief system/social structure. Combining The Hierophant with other Tarot cards The Hierophant & The Tower This can be a warning to either (possibly) prevent the collapse of familiar beliefs/structures or to be prepared for the possibilities and chances the collapse of the established order will open up. Relatedly, this combination can also be read as a chance to make a radical change to one’s life structure and provide new opportunities for oneself and others. The Hierophant & VIII of Cups This combination is about leaving behind either deeply ingrained personal habits/beliefs or adherence to long-held traditions/structures in order to find emotional fulfillment. The combination can warn you that clinging onto the old may provide a sense of security but will leave you unfulfilled or show that you can find fulfillment in the deep and unfamiliar.

The VI of Cups is heavily associated with past experiences: it can be about one’s happy memories and nostalgia, especially when the respective experiences involve people one feels a strong personal connection to. The card often refers to one’s childhood, i.e. a period of life that is generally remembered fondly, or the simpleness/purity most people associate with ‘childhood’. In this regard, the card can be an encouragement to bring out one’s inner child by being playful, kind, and light-hearted. Alternatively, the VI of Cups can symbolize (giving or receiving) kind gestures in general. Combining the VI of Cups with other Tarot cards VI of Cups & III of Cups When the VI of Cups appears together with the III of Cups, there is a strong possibility that meeting up or reconciling with friends one has not talked to in a long time might be a good idea, or that a meeting with old friends might bring about something worth celebrating. VI of Cups & Ace of Pentacles This could point to a job opportunity that is related to one’s personal memories; consequently, it may be an offer for a job that is connected to a past (possibly childhood) hobby one remembers fondly, or an opportunity to work with a trusted person from one’s past. Taken more literally, the combination can symbolize a job offer involving taking care of children.

After a long pause, I felt like making some time for a new Tarot card interpretation. For this purpose, I shuffled the cards, and the IV of Wands popped out: The IV of Wands usually refers to aspects of the social sphere. Very often, it represents large-scale social events/gatherings, e.g. in the form of big reunions and parties in general. It is also common for this card to symbolize community-related issues, i.e. questions of belonging, feeling at home, and social cohesion. In this context, it tends to focus on issues surrounding family and friendship. Alternatively, the IV of Wands can indicate an important milestone, whether it be at work or in one's personal life. Combining the IV of Wands with other Tarot cards IV of Wands & Page of Cups When combined with the Page of Cups, the IV of Wands can signify someone who makes you feel welcome and/or at ease at a large social event. Similarly, this combination can indicate having an instant connection with someone you just met at such an event. Furthermore, it can represent a public artistic performance, e.g. a concert or a play.

The VIII of Swords is a card of limitations which can usually be traced back to the mental sphere. It describes situations in which one feels restricted or suffers from paralyzing fear or another sort of limiting attitude/behavior that keeps one stuck in the same place. These situations can be purely self-imposed or caused by outside circumstances. Either way, most of the time, they can be resolved by working on changing one’s mindset or behavioral pattern(s) that are keeping one stuck or causing the feeling of entrapment. Combining the VIII of Swords with other Tarot cards VIII of Swords & Ace of Swords This combination can suggest that one could be motivated to escape the limiting factors by looking out for thought-provoking impulses. For example, one might find a relevant piece of information in a book or look at how other people deal with similar situations. Additionally, communication can be a key in overcoming one’s limitations.

At its core, the II of Pentacles is about making what seems like the most pragmatic decision at the time. It usually shows up when one has to juggle two or more tasks at the same time and indicates a need to prioritize in order to achieve a sense of balance. Additionally, it encourages the querent to exhibit a certain degree of flexibility and lightheartedness when approaching a situation that is difficult to manage, in order not to get overwhelmed by the circumstances at hand and be able to maintain said balance. Combining the II of Pentacles with other Tarot cards II of Pentacles & IX of Pentacles This combination can indicate that one has been spreading oneself too thin (most likely by trying to fulfill other people’s expectations) and serve as a reminder to be careful about maintaining one’s independence. It can also hint at a need to be (more) relaxed about one’s spending when one has a lot of money and nevertheless feels guilty about “unnecessary” expenses.

The Magician mainly symbolizes someone who can easily turn ideas into reality through their mastery over the four aspects represented by the suits of the Minor Arcana: inspiration (Wands), logic (Swords), emotions (Cups), and practicality (Pentacles). More precisely, this versatility makes them resourceful, confident, and proficient at finding the best way to implement their vision. The Magician also stands for creativity and talent(s) in general, and for being a great performer and communicator.
Combining The Magician with other Tarot cards
The Magician & III of Pentacles When combined with the III of Pentacles, The Magician can, for instance, hint at a need for a team consisting of people with different types of talent. The idea in this case would be that the group members’ individual strengths can bring about a favorable outcome in a given situation, as they can focus on those aspects of the undertaking they are the most skilled at.

[ID: a The Umbrella Academy-themed tarot card, illustrated in a way that is supposed to resemble the style of the comics (though how well that is achieved is up for debate). It is Ten of Swords, featuring an illustration of Leonard Peabody slash Harold Jenkins who has been Very Killed by ten sharp implements, mostly knives (and one pair of scissors), impaled into his chest by Viktor's mind powers. He is slumped in a chair in his dining room, with blood coming from both the knife wounds and his hairline. His missing eye has a white bandage over it, which is slightly stained with the blood coming from his face. End ID.]
we take a brief interlude from the major arcana part of the tarot series to add a sneaky little bonus. i'm absolutely not doing any more of the deck that's outside the major arcana, but this one i had a Vision for. Or rather, i had a vision of leonard in the sword suit and picked whichever card's meaning that would let me stick the most knives in him. luckily, i got to stick The Most knives in him!
