Sup, so I'm redesigning some of my old OCs and I'd like some opinions
These are some hairstyle ideas for this character. Each one is based on a different cat breed (the character is part cat).
I like them all so I would like art tumblr's opinion on which one looks the best. I added the planned color palette to help.
I did a color sketch of a magical girl based on one of those character description generator things!
I think she turned out very pretty :)
How do you create an OC? Well, the process is very simple. First I choose some basic details, like their gender, age, DnD alignment, and whether or not they would enjoy 2014 tumblr fandom discourse, then I Google names until I settle on ones I like (This process can take hours, sometimes days, depending on what meaning I want the names to have, and how I want them to sound together), then I mix that all up with a dash of personality, a smidge of quirks, and just a teeny tiny pinch of things I personally think are cool, and POOF! OC created!
Officially decided on the first and last names for the MCs of my next book, Night Of The Blue Moon! I went with…*Drumroll*
Ariel Gianapoulou
Solana Bellamy
As for why I chose them…Ariel is the name of one of Uranus’ moons, and Uranus is the father of the titans in Greek Mythology. Ariel gets her powers from Phoebe, the titan of prophecy, intellect, and the moon. Gianapoulou is the feminine form of Gianapoulous, which is derived from the Greek form of John, meaning ‘God is gracious’. Ariel is working directly with the titans, as well as Hades and Hecate. Also, she’s half Greek on her father’s side, and it felt wrong for me to write about Greek mythology without a Greek protagonist. When I wrote The Tengu And The Angel, I knew that the only way I could make the tengu imagery work was with a Japanese protagonist, so I applied the same principle here.
As for Solana, Solana means ‘sun’, and Solana’s magical girl name is Red Sun, which she chose just to match Ariel’s magical girl name, Blue Moon. Bellamy is a surname believed to be of Saxon, possibly French origin, which roughly translates to ‘beautiful friend’, which totally describes Solana. She’s known for being very, very naturally beautiful, and she’s a kind soul who wants to make the world a better place.

Creating a character using astrology:
A fun way to create a character (or just make for fun using your existing characters) is by making a birth chart for them. You can break down a character’s personality easily, and connect each part to ensure a well rounded and unique person/creature/object/etc. I like to do it using the Sun - Mars Method.
Sun sign - Who the character is at their core. This represents your ego or pride. It is a key factor in assessing someones’s overarching personality as well as their goals in life. You can even tie in theme with the sun sign. For example, I have noticed many protagonist are Aries. That is because Aries are driven and passionate, they push the story along on their backs because they refuse to quit.
Moon sign - If the sun is your outer personality, the moon is your internal world. This includes a character’s emotions and how they handle them. Are they someone who cries to relieve pressure or do they compartmentalize? Water Moons are more emotional, inwardly and outwardly, while Air Moons are more disattached and rational.
Rising sign - This is your social personality, how others see your character and how they interact with the world. It can also give details about outward appearance. For example many Leo Risings are noted to have beautiful hair and Aries Risings often have facial scars.
Mercury sign - This is the planet of communication, intellect, and memory. This is how your character thinks and speaks think and speak. Blunt? Sly? Think things through or jump right in? This is what Mercury tells you. For example, Libra Mercuries can be more diplomatic than Sagittarius Mercuries, who are more blunt.
Venus sign - This can tell you how someone acts in their relationships, (platonic and romantic) as well as a lot about their aesthetics. Are they a commitment phobe or do they seek out relationships? How do they dress, casual, always flashy, or something in between? Pisces and Aquarius Venuses have more of an acletic style while Virgo Venuses tend to lean preppy and polished.
Mars sign - This is the planet of aggression. It can tell you how someone acts in conflict as well as how they work. Are their arguments methodical, logical? Do they fly off the handle or avoid everything all together? Cancer Mars can be reactive, sensitive and are known to hold grudges. Aquarius Mars will make you feel crazy with their distant nature and stubbornness.
H-How do you come up so many idea for your ocs?? I have one OC and they’re basically my self insert but I didn’t give them a name yet let alone a backstory and personality lmao 🧍🏻♀️😭

Bruhhh it took me SO LONG to come up with these ideas. If it makes you feel better, I’ve been working on (most) of my OCs for ten years. It just takes time. Think about the world/setting they’re in, and go from there. Give them good and bad traits. For example;
In my world magic is illegal and Mages are either killed or taken away by Royalists to an unknown location. John is a really good fighter, which is useful against Royalists and other such problems. However, John is also a hothead who loves to CAUSE fights as much as he loves to finish them.
Blake is an ok fighter, but he spends wayyy too much time forming plans. Like, he can’t fight unless he has a game plan, and when you’re a wanted man who runs the risk of getting cornered wherever you go, that’s not a great quality to have. However, his plan-making skills are extremely good and can be useful at the right times. He’s also AMAZING at reading/making maps, while John is awful. Their differences are exactly why they’re such a good team. They balance each other out.
These are basic characters qualities, but they’re a great place to start. Once you have a basic character, it becomes easier to add on to them and made them interesting, complex people! Do they struggle with inner demons? Chronic pains? Mental illnesses? Do they have children or other loved ones? Are they loners? Do they have pets? A favorite food? A least favorite color? It’s all up to you to round them out, but trust me, as daunting as it seems it’s also really fun :)

An original creature I made for Star Wars. They're called Gemples and I took inspiration from a few characters I won't list at the moment.

Some doodle of an oc design
At first it was a vibration, I felt it in my body
Then another rang out, this time accompanied by a sharp ‘clink’.
I opened my eyes, there was no feeling against my body besides the vibrations from the tap, suspended in a strange liquid.
There was a creature staring back at me, it was bright, much brighter than me, and had eyes that were so large, covered in a clear substance like the one that held me now.
It had many fingers, but the most important thing I noticed about this creature was its height, it towered over me.
It tapped again, I now know for sure the vibrations were coming from the taps of its slender fingers, did it want a response?
I tried to speak, but the words in my head failed at my throat, instead I let out a warbled cry, and the creature's face filled with light, its thin lips twisting into an unnatural curl. jumping about, yelling, which was muffled by the viscous liquid that held me.
I don't know what was so exciting, but seeing its reaction gave me a warm feeling in my chest as well, so it wasn't bad, just strange.
What was so exciting about me to this thing?
I am just me.
As it peered into the tube I was held in, it took out a long dark object and struck it against some kind of board, it was rhythmic, weird.
After some time it tore the front off and began again, what kind of meaningless procedure is this? To strip away your creation only to start again. And how on earth did it hold that rod, wouldn't that many get in the way of each other? Five fingers truly seems too many.
Time passes, that perpetually moving circle has rotated within itself 5 times now, I have watched the strange entity this whole time with an unbroken gaze. It is odd, its eyes disappear occasionally, replaced with the same dimpled white as the rest of it, while the shimmering surface in front does not, peculiar, perhaps are they disconnected?
As much as this creature loved to observe me, I returned the favour, not only observing it, but the surroundings, size befitting of a giant like it, surfaces I could only dream of scaling once I was free from this liquid.
Bright orbs flicker on and off, I do not like them, but the creature doesn't seem to notice my discomfort, it is alright, I do not understand it either.
Another rotation of the circle has passed now, it still jitters in delight when it watches me track its movements outside my cell, I wish I knew what was behind those wide, sparkling eyes.
The next rotation it shared its room with me during the time when it was usually away, while the perpetual motion machine had both arrows pointing up.
It used a slender, reflective object to move morsels from a white box to its mouth; all the while it seemed to be very intent on a strange rectangle as well, which was so very bright, it seemed to produce light.
How peculiar, I wonder why it performs such a ritual, I also wonder why its teeth are so flat, how would you tear something apart?
I discovered that the reflection I thought was its eyes is not just separate, but not a part of the caretaker at all.
The caretaker has not gotten up.
Three rotations ago now, it slumped over one of its many cliffsides, following a peculiar crash.
This is of no concern, it did the same on the fourth rotation, but it did not pour such a vibrant beautiful red that time
Now I have watched the caretaker for a long time while it has not watched me back, and I have noticed many things.
It has less appendages than me, I did not notice I had more than it for a very long time.
The cover of its body is far smoother than my own, and it is not a pure colour, it has many imperfections, darker and lighter spots.
And the red it produced has turned black
Once it stirs, and releases me, it will be very proud of my observations. I believe these creatures put much stock in detailed observations, otherwise I don't see why else it would spend so much time doing so.
I hope it will be soon
